BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR, YOU MIGHT JUST RECEIVE IT
I always enjoy the strong characters and interaction in RJ Gray’s stories, and Her Navy SEAL Ex has two very strong-willed and determined characters, SEAL Maximiliano DePaul and Dr. Brianna Bradford. Since childhood, these two have known each other, had been in love with each other, were each other’s first, but they allowed life to get in their way. Now, Max is sent in to rescue Dr. Bradford when she refuses to leave a hostile area.
“Fate doesn’t always ask our permission before making its plans. Brother. Gather your team; you are headed to the Congo. You have to go rescue your girl.”
“This was Max’s chance to get her back and keep her this time. One thing was for sure, if he got her back, he would make certain that he wouldn’t lose her again.”
Max will get orders for him and his team to head to the Congo, where a stubborn Dr. Briana Bradford refuses to leave when the rest of the Americans did. Now, it will be up to the SEALs to get her out safely. But even with the threat, she fights them, and Max will have to alert her that she has no option but to leave. She can take up her rights as an American when she is safely back home.
“Brianna, you can enjoy all those rights once we get you safely back to America. Keeping you safe and bring you back home, stateside is my mission. I am a Navy SEAL. The one thing I don’t do is fail my missions.”
While the rest of his team is sent to help the American Embassy, which is under attack, he will take her to a safe house. It is while there for three days that these two reconnect. The past is relived, the mistakes they made addressed, and their future plans. Max realizes that Brianna needs a Daddy, and he is ready for the job—but getting her to accept it won’t be an easy task.

The story is the journey of Max and Brianna reconnecting, talking, which sometimes is over his lap, and rather than allowing her to push him away, hide her feelings, or pretend it doesn’t matter, Max makes her confront and accept the truth. The erotic chemistry between these two is just as strong as it was ten years before when they broke up. Max is more dominant, knowing that Brianna needs that, needs him to be in control, and needs to be her stern and loving daddy. That includes discipline and loving her.

Plot: Max and Brianna were high school/college sweethearts. Max was always destined for the military, and Brianna wanted to be a doctor. They had begun to play with some bdsm/ageplay, and everything seemed like it was going well. Then Brianna broke up with him. Ten years later, Max, now a Navy Seal, is called in to rescue an American doctor from a bad situation; of course, it's Brianna. Now that he's found her again, he won't let her go.
Character development: Max was really upset with himself that he let her break up with him (although not so upset that he went back). But I think he wasn't mature enough back then to handle the type of relationship he wanted. He knew about her insecurities but wasn't able to anticipate or deal with them like he did the second time around. As for Brianna - I get the need to do good and as a doctor, her first instinct would always be to heal, but digging in her heels at that moment, with a war raging around her, putting people in danger, was well beyond brat mode. That really irritated me. I think Max was a lot more patient than necessary in that case. But they needed to work things out, and they were both a little off-kilter at that first moment of reconnection. I enjoyed this story!

I was pleasantly surprised with this story because I did not know it was a DD/lg. I know it was careless of me but I saw that enticing cover and "Navy Seal" and I was sold! Also, I recently read a whole MC series where some of the male main characters were former Navy Seals, so I was under the influence. Well back to this little gem- I FLOVED it. Here's why- I recently read a very slow burn but super emotional DD/lg and I was left wanting more. Enter RJ Gray with her novella. It definitely hit the spot.
The male main character Max is this hardcover tough active Navy seal who had a long relationship with the female lead, Brianna, aka Bumble Bee, until they broke up... 10 years ago! I mean that right there felt like fated mates except this isn't PNR. It was a little's dream come true- a Daddy so devoted and in tune with his little, that despite the years, he still pines for his little girl. Brianna is not a pliant submissive little- she is tons to deal with and mostly because the 10 years apart has done a number on how she perceives herself and the man that she still wants. The sizzling chemistry is delightful and Max is all Alpha male oozing raw possessiveness and the ultimate protector. I want more!

This book is a well written story that consists of action, angst, danger, war, domination and submission. The main characters are a Navy Seal and a doctor who have a past that they walk away from. The storyline is intense and succinct. The character development is expertly crafted and you will fall into this story feet first. They start out by running from the insurgents in the Congo as he tries to save her from her self and get her to safety. But the story is truly how they must forgive their past to move forward into their future together. This author always writes such kick butt characters that the reader can identify with. Well done.

Max and Brianna grew up together. Were in a serious relationship until she pushed him away, told him to leave, and he did. Now 10 years later his SEAL team is sent to pull her out of the Congo where she is a volunteer doctor at a clinic. He wants her back, and is now willing to fight and stay for her. She's never felt worthy of him and his love, and can she trust him not to leave again? Good ending, but would've liked more of their life stateside.

She chased him away out of fear of losing him but lost him anyway for nearly a decade..or did she? As a Navy SEAL it was his mission to evacuate her from the war-torn region her clinic was located. They fought tooth and nail but both of them carried a torch that had never burned out. This is the story of the rekindling of their D/s relationship into a slightly different version and how difficult it is to walk away from insecurity. Well written, edge of your seat action with lots of emotion.

When his Doctor without Borders refuses to be evacuated during an insurrection, Max and his Navy SEAL team go to get her. This story is shorter because it is part of an anthrology but just because it is shorter does not mean it’s short of action and romance. Brianna refuses to leave the Congo even as danger is rising daily. But she is no match for the hot SEAL who was sent to bring her home. Once they realize they know each other will a second chance romance develop or will past hurts keep them apart?

This book had the best description of a Daddy Dom that I've read. It made me not hate hearing that word so much. Max is called in to save Brianna, and this time he's not going to let her go. I hoping there's going to be more books for the rest of his SEAL team.

This is a wonderful second chance story with two strong lead characters. It was originally included in the Dirty Daddies 2020 Anthology and is a fairly quick, short read. Never underestimate the amount of emotion a good writer can fit into a shorter story.

This was a good story it revolved around Brianna and Max and them finding each other again. Max was into domination and once he introduced Brianna to this way of life it helped her with some of her insecurities.
