Cheerleader #11

Sophomore Spring

Rate this book
Sophomore Spring, the Eleventh book in the Lee Corcoran series, follows Lee Corcoran, in his second year in college at the University of Michigan. His life does not follow the typical male athlete path.

While the book is written to allow a reader to enjoy it without all of the history, if you want to understand all the characters and dynamics in their lives, reading the previous ten books is the only way. Long-term threads and relationships tie the books together. These books primarily follow Lee and his best friend Darby, a girl.

As a freshman in high school, Lee became involved in a girls cheerleading program as an advisor and trainer where he was reluctantly introduced to crossdressing. Lee found that he enjoyed the softer side of clothing. As high school progressed, circumstances forced Lee to wear a feminine wardrobe in more and more situations.

One of the key elements of the storyline is that Lee enjoys his dressing while still wanting to hang onto his masculinity. It is an internal struggle that is a constant battle throughout the series. He has no doubts about his heterosexuality and loves the woman in his life.

Spoiler alert [if you have not read the other books]

Throughout high school, Lee dated women, participated in cheerleading, was the starting shortstop on the baseball team for four years, and wore women’s underwear and outer clothes virtually all the time in his senior year. He and his friends accomplished a lot. Lee ended up being the head cheerleader.

Over time, his best friend, Darby, learned of Lee’s preferences for certain feminine attire. Attending a major university, with a scholarship for cheerleading, Lee spends 100% of his time as a female student. An active member of a national sorority, participating in three sports in all three seasons, Lee has taken on responsibility for charitable activity on campus and nationally for the National Cheerleading Association.

While Darby and he are a couple, they do not present that way in public on campus. On campus, Lee is living in a girl’s dormitory with other cheerleaders.

The previous book ended after the Competition Cheerleading national finals.

Both Lee and Darby have increasing responsibility at their sorority, school and in extracurricular activities.

Lee worked part of the previous summer as a professional baseball trainer and baseball scout. He plans to continue training players for the Detroit Tigers. The pair have done a lot of modeling and surely there will be more requests for their services.

This story deals with a reluctant [less reluctant by book 11] crossdresser who tries not to sacrifice his manhood while enjoying his unusual choice in clothing.

Crossdressing is dealt with as part of a real life.

Given the ages of the characters, the story does not involve explicit sex.
Young adult readers should be comfortable reading this book.

This book was great! It starts by filling in some of the spots which were given short shrift in Cheerleader 10: Sophomore Winter (things that I'd wondered about (wanting more details or more exposition as to what happened after the matter was dropped from the narration). Cheerleader 11 starts before the ending of Cheerleader 10 and then moves on through and continues where Sophomore Winter ended and goes on to detail the things which happen in Lee and Darby's lives in the following Spring.

It makes a great story and now I will just have to wait for the next installment in the Lee Corcoran Series. (sigh).

Book 11 adds new things to the events of book 10 in a separate section, in a kind of addendum, before continuing with what happens next.

A clever way is found to finally resolve the situation with Todd's infatuation with Lee without Todd being told Lee's gender.

Darby and Lee both go to the Greek week event.

Lee is unexpectedly required to coach a baseball game due to unforseen circumstances. This results in him later having to consider his future

Like all the other books in this series it remained for me an enjoyable read.

This Is the 4th time I read the series, and it will not be the last.I can't wait until the next installment this is such a A series, I read the whole thing in six days. I can't wait to see what Lee's baseball coaches thought about his A experience. Will they be threatened, or decide to use him to help the team?

For those of you that don't know the Cheerleader books have been following the life of Lee Corcoran. He started out helping his best friend Darby train for High School cheerleading try outs, moved onto coaching the team, then being in the team and then, in their senior year, Lee lead his team to national champions. Pretty impressive, even more so when you find out it's an all girl competition. After being a full cheerleading scholarship to Michigan, Lee has to take the plunge and live as a girl all the time.

In book eleven Cheerleading takes a backseat to Baseball as Lee spends some more time helping with the Detroit Tigers batting problems. As you would expect from DD, Lee is plunged into a scary situation when the entire senior coaching staff are taken ill on the eve of a match and he has to take charge. This leads to a huge decision that could change the rest of his life.

Regular readers of the series will know the characters well by now and DD does a great job of keeping us in touch with people not really needed for the story. It makes you feel like she cares about the readers and understands that there are certain people we love and need to how they're doing.

If I had to find one flaw, or make one suggestion, it would be that DD uses contractions more in her dialogue. Sometimes it can feel a little stilted. But that really is the only bad thing I can say.

A great book, well deserving of its five stars.

Worth waiting for!

This is book 11 of the series, and a wonderful addition to the series. I still struggle with Diane's constant assertion that Lee is not trans simply because she has no desire for hormones or surgery. She lives as a girl, her primary relationships are with girls, and she THRIVES in almost exclusively female organizations at college, state, and national levels. Even as a baseball player & coach, Lee is perceived and accepted as a coed member of her teams.

There are moments when the plot "jumps the shark", but Daring Diane's writing style, characters, relationships, & interaction are so delightful that her books are a joy to read. I recommend the whole series to readers. You will be moved, touched, & inspired by Lee, Darby, and all of their friends.

Amazing. This chapter and the series are a must read.

I particularly liked this chapter. I liked the conflicts that Lee faced. Lee’s insecurities really showed in this chapter and seeing how he resolved all of them was a very good read. Please continue. I look forward to the next chapter. Thanks

Great new episode

The saga goes on. It was a bit disconcerting to have a bit of going back in the story, but Lee's baseball involvement was really interesting.
