Doctor Jeremiah Wheeler dedicated ten years of his professional career to the population of a maximum-security penitentiary in California. A prison riot and lockdown led to a horrific hostage situation he barely managed to survive. Going back wasn't possible. He needed a change of pace, a change of scenery, and time to heal.

Life was quiet in Hollister, South Dakota, and that was exactly why Savannah Wade relocated to the middle of nowhere after her husband died. Small town problems, with a dash of small-town drama. Perfect. Peaceful. Relaxing. At least until he hit town. All those muscles stacked on top of a superior attitude and those mesmerizing eyes. Doctor Wheeler was a flashing warning sign, one she couldn't resist. He was a bad boy with a capital B.

All he wanted was beer and a meal but instead, he ended up witnessing an argument that escalated into a knife fight. Forced into action to save a man's life, he fell headlong into the small town's business. There was nothing to hold him in Hollister. Well, almost nothing.

An urgent call from California holds him firmly in cattle country with no release date in sight. That is until the reason for his forced hiatus tracks him down. In order to save himself and Savannah, he calls in a favor and makes a commitment to Guardian. One he'd gladly keep if he survives.

Who heals the healer

An excellent book and another great story. Jeremiah has been in the books since the begining but he has always been the healer, who does his part then steps out of the story.

What demons are in his past? Unlike other members of the Guardian family he is not a military man. Though as is the Guardian enterence policy he is jacked up and knows how to handle himself in a fight.

This is Jeremiah's story, not as much details about Eden as some of the other significant other in the other books, but I am ok with that a Jeremiah deserved the lion share of the book. Gen his sister seems yo have a story to be told as well. Knowing Kris' great use of side characters for later book I am sure Gen will be spoken of again.

This book is a slower pace then some of the other books, but that definitely suits the story and if I am correct big things are coming next. Great cameos from the Marshall family and a King as well.

A great book to be enjoyed on its own, but so much more rewarding is you have been following the whole series and spin off as well.

Doc Wheeler😍

Jeremiah is book four in the spin off series Guardian Defenders and packs a mean right hook 🥊

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that the author started the book the way she did but it kept me engaged and I really loved how even though Jeremiah/ Remi didn’t know but some of his every day interactions and how close to Guardian he came was kind of….serendipitous🤩

Loved Eden and Jeremiah together and obstacles fought to be together, especially when danger came a calling😳 I can’t wait for what happens next as that ending was definitely not one I expected😢

For me, this had a completely different feel to it. Everything about it. The tone, the intention, the pace... everything. And I really like it... a lot.

I think, though, I would've liked it even more if we didn't have concurrent timelines with events going on with Guardian. I don't remember Tori seeing Jeremiah in her book. I really don't remember Jeremiah being married... I thought he flirted overtly with Ember in Joseph's book - he kissed her on the lips... although, that particular part was reflected almost perfectly in Jeremiah's.

Jeremiah's book :“Good morning, sunshine! How the hell are you?”

The redhead squeaked and then jumped up. “Oh, my God! Remi Wheeler! What are you doing here?”

She launched into his arms and he laughed. “I could ask you the same question, Red.” He pulled her tight and twirled her around before setting her down and planting a completely innocent kiss on her upturned lips.

Joseph's book: “Good morning sunshine! How the hell are you?” Ember jumped when she saw the doctor who followed Adam out the door. His greeting was the same one he used every morning for a year during their rotations together.

“Oh my God! Remi Wheeler! What are you doing here?” Ember launched from Joseph’ lap and jumped into the arms of the massive tattooed doctor who loomed in the doorway.

“I could ask you the exact same question, Red.” He pulled her tight and twirled her around before setting her down and planting a kiss on her upturned lips.

Did you spot the difference? Cos it makes a massive difference... It made me itchy/scratchy when I read this is in Jeremiah's... I knew that it wasn't quite right... so I had to go and check Joseph's. Don't get me wrong... I totally understand the need for the subtle change, but in all honesty... I think that I would've preferred it if we hadn't had direct interaction with the rest of Guardian/Tori etc. Timelines just didn't gel for me.

Having said that. I honestly & truly really really liked this... definitely in my top 5 of Kris Michael's books!!

I have wondered about Dr. Jeremiah Wheeler since he first appeared in the Guardian series. He is a psychiatrist with a bad boy edge to him. He is good at what he does and now we know why he is so relatable to the patients he treats. He has endured a lot and Ms. Michaels takes on his journey from prison psychiatrist to small-town hero and on to a valuable member of Guardian. His journey wasn't easy, but then again, Ms. Michaels doesn't write easy stories for her characters. He comes from money and when I read that I was surprised. He doesn't come off that way at all. Neither does his hard-working sister.

Eden Wade is the heroine in the story and she is amazing in her own right. Her story is a bit sad but she is strong. All of Ms. Michaels's females are strong, amazing women in their own right. I liked her immediately, she is sassy, smart, and doesn't put up with baloney.

I loved this book and the love story that unfolds. There were some very sweet scenes as well as some sad ones. Ms. Michaels can make you laugh or cry, sometimes all in the same chapter. I enjoyed reading about the town of Hollister and meeting its townspeople. It's like meeting new friends and being invited to coffee with them. Ms. Michaels sucks you in and holds you to the last page and well beyond that to the next story. I know I have to pick a day when I can read the whole book without interruptions. It's too hard to leave the story when you are in its grips. It begs to be read in one sitting.

Dr. Jeremiah Wheeler has appeared in several of the other books in this series, as well as the Kings of Guardian and Guardian Defender series. In this book, we are finally provided the back story that has been hinted to when talking about Jeremiah’s past.

I enjoyed this book and I liked getting to know Jeremiah better. He is a good man and a talented psychologist who truly believes in helping others. Eden is a super sweet woman and the perfect companion for Jeremiah. She is a nurse so her calling is also to help people. They are attracted to each other the moment they meet, and start dating fairly quickly so it’s obvious how good together they are.

In the back of my mind, for some reason I feel like I remember Jeremiah trying to either date or ask out one of the female lead characters in an earlier book. However, the time line in this book doesn’t put Jeremiah working for Guardian until after he is already with Eden. I know he had sessions with Tori (Jacob’s book) before he actually became an employee of Guardian, but I believe he did a lot more at the Marshall’s ranch before his session with Joseph. However, there is always the possibility that I’m wrong and mixing Jeremiah up with another character.

Also, a heads up for those of you who read the book description before you start reading this book. You’ll see that Savannah Wade is listed as the main female character. There is no Savannah in this book. Once Eden was introduced, I kept wondering who Savannah was and when/how she was going to enter the story. I finally realized that apparently the author changed the leading lady’s name to Eden and never corrected the book description.

Overall, this is another good book in the Guardian World. I’ve grown to love these characters and I am looking forward to Reaper’s book next.

Wow! Just Wow!
Love this series, the guardians own my heart ❤️

If you are new to this author, I suggest starting at the beginning, you could get through this as a stand-alone, but trust me once you’ve read it you’ll automatically want to go back to the first few books (I’m a massive fan of the series and even I went back to check certain info)
This is romantic suspense at its best! Be warned chapter one is very graphic, Jeremiah is working in a prison when a serial killer gets loose (some of the scenes made me feel sick) however, from then on it was a beautiful love story, I was fascinated with Jeremiah’s story on how he become a Guardian, the suspense element was there throughout, the romance was steamy, hot and sensual at times.
I was totally engrossed by the storyline which made me read wayyyy past my bedtime.
And the best thing about the Guardian series…..the characters…ALL of them! I adored the town of Hollister and all its residents, and of course getting glimpses of our favourite guardians (I love Gabriel !)
Long may this series and spin offs continue, however the ending made me nervous for future books in particular the next two book Siege 1 & 2 😱😱 surely the author won’t do this to us 🥺😭

Couldn’t put this story down

Jeremiah witnesses a brutal crime inside the prison that occurs during a riot. He decides he needs time and heads towards his sister’s home in a small town called Hollister. Kris Michaels has done a wonderful job creating this town of
proud people that takes care of their own.
Jeremiah meets Eden who has her own issues to work through. While he grows attached to this town and reconnects with his sister, Jeremiah starts to fall in love with Eden.
This author pulls you into this story and evokes several ranges of emotions. I felt like this town was itself a character. I felt a connection with these characters. The tornado and how the people came together to help those who needed it brought back memories of how my small town reacted when we lost everything to the hurricanes of 2004. This author nailed the emotions and pride of the citizens of Hollister.
Much happens in this story and once you start you won’t want to put it down. The ending gives you a sense that something big is coming. I believe this story is one of Kris Michaels best and not to be missed.

Jeremiah and Eden

Holy wow. I have always enjoyed reading the other stories that would mention Doc Wheeler and yay for us to get his entire story. I truly believe that any person that works in any capacity at a prison are just brave and awesome; especially the ones where the evil and sadistic animals are housed and I can only imagine what Jeremiah experienced when he had to watch Cyrus torture those innocent people. I know we have tornadoes in this country but holy cow to experience not one but two within such a short time, but it was amazing how the town came together to assist others and also to stay and help Jeremiah finally get rid of this depraved fool that escaped from the prison, but glad to learn that Cyrus actually killed himself by falling on his own knife. That's just karma for me. I love how he and Eden met and fell in love and had two children and that they named their son for his dear friend and mentor and also his middle name after Eden's first husband that passed away. Really cool how he first met Gabriel as well and yes looking forward to more. Happy reading.

This was an amazing action adventure love story. When Jerimah is working at the penitentiary his worst nightmare in the form of Cyrus gets loose when the prison locks down and proceeds to torture two people while all Jeremiah could do was watch. Cyrus vowed to kill him since he missed doing so the first time they meet years ago. This was the end of working here he needs to get far away from this killer while Cyrus was alive in this prison since was captured again. He drove to visit his sister Gen in South Dakota where she escaped to after her fiance' left her at the altar with her best friend. It was her salvation so maybe it will be his as well. The first night he breaks a kniving and he meets a nurse practicaner, Eden that will forever change his life. This is the beginning of their amazing love story and with the help of his friend and fellow doctor, Jamison who puts his life back together. It was fantastic as they weathered many obstacles to get their happily ever after with Gardenian Group, Jamison and this little town and his love Eden by his side. This was a fantastic series and book that I highly recommend.

Jeremiah was awesome

I adore Kris Michaels! Her books always have so many facets to them and Jeremiah is a perfect example. Dr. Jeremiah Wheeler is a medical professional who has been working in a California maximum security facility for 10 years - not an easy situation in the first place. But after a riot and lockdown and a situation out of a horror movie, he needs a break far away from the nightmare. That brings him to Hollister, South Dakota, where he meets the lovely Eden Wade, who had escaped there for her own reasons. Events arise where he stays longer than he intended, which is no hardship for either of them, until Remi gets a call that the nightmare has left Cali and headed to Hollister. And of course, it IS a Kris Michaels book, so fortunately that means Guardian Security is involved to an extent, which is awesome. But I don’t want to spoil anything, so that’s all I will say about that, except that it’s amazing and awesome, and I already liked the bits of are I we had already seen, and I love him more now and I’m ready to read it again!!

I have been waiting and wanting Jeremiah's story since the first time I saw him in one of this author's books, and let me tell you-this story does NOT disappoint! Jeremiah went through something that no one ever wants to think about or go through. And the fact that he is smart enough to know that he has issues afterwards? Makes him that much more of a real man to me. He faces his issues and actually works on them instead of ignoring them and acting like everything is fine. Eden also went through something that no one should have to, but she is has a strength and capacity of caring that just makes you fall in love with her. These two are not perfect in any way however, they are perfect for each other. I loved how this story played out and how everything pulls together! Let me just point out though, you can't introduce awesome side characters and not expect me to want their stories as well! Now I need one for his sister and a certain doctor that we met!! This was definitely a great read!

I borrowed Jeremiah ~ Guardian Defenders ~ Book 4, by Kris Michaels from the Kindle Unlimited Program.

Doctor Jeremiah Wheeler arrives in Hollister, South Dakota to visit his sister Gen, finds out she is away getting supplies for her café until the next day. He stops a bar fight that ends with the owner getting knifed, he meets Eden Wade, the local nurse and the plot begins.

Jeremiah suffers through a prison riot where he watched one of his fellow workers killed and another one hurt badly bya serial killer that wants to kill him. He settles in Hollister, helps with rebuliding after a tornato hits the town and the serial killer has excaped from the high security prison. The action continures through to a happy ending for Jeremiah and Eden as he takes a contract with Guardian to become the 'shrink for the rehab complex that is built on the Marshall Ranch outside of Hollister. It is a touching story, full of fun, emotions and caring for community that helps each other.

OMG love Jeremiah and Eden

A tragedy and a serial killer in the California prison where Jeremiah worked had him leaving and going to Hollister for a short visit with his sister before he figured out what to do next was a good start. Then he meets Eden outside a bar where he help the bartender who was in a fight while kicking out some ?local boys. He and Eden hit and he extends his stay to maybe a month. Now he is there permanently after going through two storms that both produce tornados and the serial killer who escaped from the California prison with sights set on killing Jeremiah and holds Eden hostage during the last tornado. That kind of cemented their feelings for each other. With the help from is mentor, Jeremiah is a me to work through his trauma and now has to figure out how to say goodbye to his mentor who is dying. Will he get to see Jamison before it's too late? How seriously was Eden hurt between the serial killer and the tornado? How will the town rebuild all it has lost twice so quickly? How does he become the shrink for Guardian?

Jeremiah is the fourth book in the Guardian Defenders series by Kris Michaels. With this series, Ms. Michaels delivers a compelling mix of romantic suspense, tactical action, and emotional storytelling. It’s another spin-off from the Kings of Guardian series, and definitely doesn’t disappoint, retaining the same high-energy pacing and interconnected worldbuilding I have come to expect from Ms. Michaels, while also introducing us to new operatives with their own unique missions and personal challenges.
Each book can be read as a standalone romance that’s wrapped up in a high-stakes operation - but I would be remiss not to mention that together they form a cohesive web of loyalty, trust, and found family.
Once again, Ms. Michaels delivers authentic action sequences grounded in military and covert operations, distinct character voices that make each operative memorable, interconnected relationships that add an extra dynamic to the overall series, and the perfect balance between suspense and romance.
Happy Reading…

Romantic thriller Guardian style

No plot spoilers
No potential triggers
There are no grammatical or editorial errors that I can recall
As ever from the pen of Kris Michaels the characterisation is outstanding, with relatable characters populating the page and drawing you further into the story.
The plotline is engaging and well thought out giving you a deeper insight into the town of Hollister but more importantly we finally get Remi's story and even though I've waited years for it, I forgive the author for the wait because one of my favourite characters just became more substantial and I am now totally in love with him.
Strong women, alpha type male, romance and a thrilling plotline, what more could anyone want?
Well, there are sex scenes . . .
I have no problem recommending the series but would advise reading from the beginning to obtain the best reading experience.
Thank God the author is prolific because the next book is on the horizon!

Brutal and haunting

Jeremiah thought he was prepared to face the challenges of working with the most damaged of society, but nobody is prepared for Cyrus and his complete disregard for humanity. The horrors Jeremiah lives through at Cyrus's hand would break the strongest of people, but especially an Alpha whose first instinct is to protect others, helplessness is the hardest torture to bear.
His visit to his sister Gen may begin as an escape, but arriving in Hollister he finds a quirky community who offer acceptance with no questions asked and unwavering loyalty and support, it makes him want more......
More time in Hollister.....
More family time with Gen.....
More sexy time with the gorgeous, sassy Eden....
More support for the amazing community he has found himself part of.....
More help for those who need his expertise....
More possibilities....
Just......more.
A future?
A gripping read on Kindle Unlimited.

i looove Kris Michaels especially her out of the country stories. a few local plots have left me wanting. seeing as I've read all the guardian and shadows then skipped back to Gabriel...where it all started...(had to wait for audible) I was happy as with this local story. it brings remi into the picture nicely. His backstory explains a lot of his actions in future books. to top it off he interviews my most favourite character Joseph/fury. oh boy I got a thrill as I already know all about him.
Like one other reviewer i can't remember tori seeing jeremiah either; and the end of the book reveals yet another plot line into a story I've already read but not sure which character it is....time for a reread.
Matt Haynes thankyou again for your awesome narration.....so looking forward to more on audible from Kris.

Another Great Book by Kris Michaels!

I've been waiting for Jeremiah Wheeler's story and what a gut wrenching story he has. It was scary to read some parts due to the horror he went through being a psychiatrist working at a prison & dealing with a crazy serial killer. This book was action packed from the very beginning dealing with a serial killer alone had my heart racing & hands shaking & yet didn't want to stop reading Jeremiah's story. He left the prison to visit his sister Gen & ended up being a hero saving a life in a small town of Hollister in South Dakota what a coincidence. And met Eden a nurse practioner who he fell in love with the longer he stayed in that town. I love how so many previous Guardians pop up & are so connected & intertwined in each book it is amazing to read. Again congrats Kris on another great story! Off to read Reaper next.

From HELL and back

Taking a leave of absence from the prison where he worked Dr Wheeler aka Jeremiah got on his Harley and left, no intention of returning, going to visit his sister in small town South Dakota, Eden small town nurse practitioner meets the handsome hottie while he's giving aid to the bartender after a fight breaks out, demons from his past and heartbreak from her's gives them lots of time to talk and get to know each other, this had me on the edge of my seat the entire book, the beginning tore my heart out for Jeremiah to have to watch what he had would have damaged a lesser man without the support system and friends he had and the love of a beautiful woman, his soul mate, thank you for a riveting and moving story Kris Michaels, Dana Zamora

scary

Another brilliant book from Kris giving the background story to Jeremiah the Guardian psychiatrist. Jeremiah has a horrific encounter with a totally psychotic serial killer who is incarcerated in the maximum security prison in which Jeremiah works. It is so awful that Jeremiah leaves and drives his motorbike to Hollister where his sister Gen lives. He meets Eden the local nurse practitioner when he helps out after a fight . They fall for each other and all appears to be going well until the killer escapes and comes after Jeremiah.
Personally I find serial killers too scary and that is the only reason I gave 4* not 5 . I loved the background it gives to the earlier stories and I’m looking forward to reading more.

Dr. Jeremiah Wheeler’s trapped with MacMillian, a violent inmate, in two riots at the supermax prison where he works over a few months. Remi’s injured in the first riot, he improved his defense skills; the second time, he’s forced to watch friends and co-workers murdered while MacMillian, threatens to kill Remi’s friends, family then Remi. Deciding the job is too stressful and dangerous, Remi quits.

At loose ends, Remi decides to visit his sister in SD. Moments in town, Jeremiah is treating victims of a bar fight and meets nurse practitioner Eden Wade. Their instant attraction kick starts a relationship, Remi’s friends at Guardian line up a client for him, he picks up another. The start of a good life but a phone call changes things, McMillian’s escaped prison.

Worth the wait!

Wondered how this story was going to be told with so many books before this where Remi was included. My only caution is to NOT start this before bed!! I was afraid to go to sleep and dream 😳. Once you get past the beginning it’s safe to read at night. I think when I reread I will be skipping the first chapter or I’ll never be able to get through the book again. I’m hoping that we get a Gen & Hollister VI at some point…pretty please!!!???!!!! I want to live in a town like Hollister- slaying the earth and hard working community! Another great read!! Anxiously awaiting my next Guardian fix!!!

Jerimi-ahhh

We learn the past of Jeremiah's practice being in a State prison system, along with a threat from one of the inmates, a serial killer name Cyrus. His ending up in Hollister was no coincidence, his sister runs the cafe. He plans on stopping by just for a few days, then weeks, meets Eden and it turns into six months, maybe longer. Then he gets a call from Guardian. Cyrus escaped. With a wardens laptop. A Guardian team is dispatched, but all the plans of mice and men..... get upset by Mother Nature. Things have a way of getting wonky, and in this case they do a fantastic job of it. Awesome book!!!

Jeremiah

This book rocked! Remi and Eden met through his sister, in a way. He had gone to his sister's to regroup from his job. It isn't an easy read. There are many trials that he has to go through to get his own mind back on track. This story introduced the reason why he was in that small town and how Guardians became his boss. This answers the question from the previous book. His biker get up to why his laid back ways work out for him. Eden is the perfect woman for him. Someone who is able to stand on her own but willing to stand beside him to keep those who mean the world to her safe.

Jeremiah

WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Kris! We get to meet the shrink - Jeremiah. His story right from the beginning is definitely intense when Jeremiah is confronted with a psychopath maniac who wants him dead. 😮 After the last incident that he witnessed a few people died, he quit his job at that prison. He decided to visit his sister and promptly met his future wife - Eden. As we read their story, we witnessed the wrath of Mother Nature twice. Then Jeremiah had to face his for who terrorized his dreams. Once that dude was eliminated, Even and Jeremiah worked on their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Kris! I would recommend this book!

Hollister

This small town is what the American Gothic is all about. Jeremiah and Eden are adopted by the good folk of Hollister and ban together to save it from Mother Nature's fury and an FBI wanted criminal. Small towns can be nurturing and challenging and Hollister makes you want to be part of it. With the Marshall Family Ranch / Guardian Western Complex nearby things can get interesting. Enjoy this look into another segment of the Guardian Family that Kris Michael has gifted us.

Worth the wait!

I have wanted to read Remi's story ever since his session with Joseph and Ember, and this didn't disappoint.
It is nice to see how these "extra" characters fit in. I think this book also gives us a glimpse of the reason for the pre-existing friendship Frank Marshall and Gabriel seem to have in the holiday book. For those who have read those previous books and wondered about those things, this book fills in a few of the blanks.
Thank you, Ms. Michaels!
