What’s worse than a fae prince with murder on his mind?
How about a family reunion…
But with dragons.

The good news is, I survived the murderous fae prince. I also found my aunt and embraced my inner dragon. Everything should be going great, right?

If only. My aunt has disappeared again, there’s no news from my friends at the Fae Court, and now there’s a gargoyle terrorizing my customers. To make matters worse, my savings are running out, and I may lose the bookstore unless I can find a job.

So of course, that’s when fate decides I have it too easy, and my path suddenly collides with the one person I’ve been running from for nineteen years—also known as “Mom.”

My whole life, I’ve been told my family wants me dead, but the truth turns out to be a lot murkier than that. The only way to get to the bottom of all the lies is to take a little field trip to the dragon enclave, where I’ll be surrounded by stubborn, suspicious, short-tempered lizards, most of them not very happy to find out I’m still alive.

I’m about to get a crash course in dragon politics—which is just like regular politics, but louder. And with fire.

Lucky me.

Very, very, very good.

So my hunch was right - Kira does grow a lot and discover herself in this book. The dragon brothers are amazing, and i love them. The plot gets darker (an unfortunate natural progression of many trilogies) but it is even more gripping and i did not see many of the twists. The ending is definitely unfinished, but well-handled such that it is not a cliffhanger. In the first book, I docked a star for the insta-love relationship, but even though it progressed even more quickly this time, Kira explaining her rationale helped show that it was at least grounded in good reasoning other than attraction. So - five stars! And Haley Ryan is going onto my favourite authors list.

(4.5 stars) - new answers + new questions

Kira has returned home to recover & decide her next course of action. However, Faris not quite intentionally takes the decision out of her hands.

She finds herself caught in between the family she never knew, and the dragon clan politics she never learned. She does a lot of growing as a person - and her relationship with Draven takes some unexpected turns - while she tries to figure out how to not just stay alive, but live on her own terms.

I really love the direction the author took with the story, and can't wait to read the grand finale to find out how it all gets resolved - there's so much ahead that it promises to be the most exciting yet

*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic (a mild PG)

I enjoyed this second installment a bit more than the first! Kira gets to spend time learning where she came from and reconnect with a family she has feared all her life. Turns out, they're not so bad! I liked that she was able to spend time at the dragon enclave and learn more about dragons and her family. And bonus, Drevan is still a big part of the story and there is .... kissing!! (Finally!) Kira learns and grows a lot and it was fun seeing her stand up for what she believes in and that she is able to read people well. I like that so far the books stand well on their own, but there is a bigger story that takes place and makes you want to dive into the next installment, so I'm off to read book three!

Content
Romance: Kissing
Language: Mild, bit more than the first book
Violence: Some fighting, nothing overly graphic

This was great! In my opinion, this is where Ryan has hit her stride with the series. Kira is an excellent main character, able to act maturely, relatable, and realistically within the bounds of her owns strengths and imperfections. I absolutely love her brothers, and Draven really grew on me in book two. I don't really like her mom. Skye is fun! The plot of this book was interesting, exciting, and had me squealing, crying, and cheering in equal measure. 4.5 stars! Recommended.

While I did like the book for itself as much as I liked Book 1, the 3.5 stars is really more because personal opinion.

First with the things I liked....the development of the characters was amazing, the FAMILY stuff was AMAZING and I love their introduction so much, and the increase of information was so much fun. Worldbuilding and pacing were again well done (though nitpicky as I am I had some moments of, ah, a bit fast) and honestly, the romantic development was great. I think this is one of the few attraction-to-love stories I've actually not hated because everything is so well addressed and the heroine's brutal honesty doesn't let it become the typical uncomfortable crush romance.

Now, the reason I did rate it this is, like I said, just personal preferences. The language was a smidge stronger here (or maybe the use of the word bul***** was also in book 1 and I missed it). And sadly for me, language does matter a lot even though I've gotten better at tolerating it. It didn't impede to the story at all, mind you, and it made sense considering the stakes.

But I DID really like this...answered so many questions. It made me laugh in some places and I will NEVER say no to found family tropes or sibling shenanigans.

Content: there's a bit more romantic content here, mild language, and a bit of violence

I appreciate the lack of annoying YA adult tropes (which include love-triangles, embarrassingly one-sided crushes, unnecessary drama due to lack of communication, stupid jealousy subplots).
I also approve of Draven as a LI - who, despite his aloof bad boy image, is supportive, willing to communicate, admits his faults and apologises when necessary, and treats the heroine as an equal. Yay for non-abusive-manipulative-jerkass-alpha LIs in YA stories!
And another yay for a heroine who has self-respect and is willing to stand up for herself! Yay!
The story and the newly introduced characters, while not groundbreaking, were decent enough and held my interest.
Buuuut despite Draven's decidedly non-jerkass ways (*loud cheering in the background*), I was kind of... bored by him. I didn't quite buy his feelings or the lengths he goes through to help Kira. Then again, I'm also not exactly the target audience, so YMMV.

I decided to downgrade this to 3 stars because there was something off about this book that began to solidify as I started book number three: the object lesson in book one was that Kira was letting her life float by like she had no control over it and refused to face any problems or difficulties until they were shoved in her face and someone challenged her on her complacency. I wasn’t a huge fan of her character for stubbornly wanting to remain in the dark, but I’m not much a fan of her new life philosophy.

In book 2, she’s learned to question things and take action in her life, but her conclusion seems to be: since she’s legally entitled to make her own decisions as an adult, she should only rely on herself, her own strength and her own mental faculties. She’s doesn’t look down on others, per se, but she still feels a bit self centered and arrogant, because of the over-emphasis of her own abilities and her own free will to go off and do whatever she pleases.

Case in point from book 3 (no spoilers, I promise):
“Frustration and worry gave his words a sharper edge than usual, and I quickly concluded that I was right to leave him out of this […] And no matter how much I chafed at waiting, I had to trust him with that part, because I honestly had no better ideas.”

She would be more appealing if she learned to observe and evaluate the needs, wants and skills of the people around her and learned to appreciate them and how they can work TOGETHER. If she sought them out to work through the problem she’s facing, and appreciated how each character could contribute to solving it, rather than making all the decisions in her head and acting on her plan all by her self-assured lonesome, she would show true maturity and leadership that I could respect.

It seems that everyone else in the story is reaching out to her and trying to work together. And while she needs and likes their attention, she doesn’t seem to appreciate their value apart from how they can make her feel better about herself.

Pretty good! Entertaining! Fun to see the evolution of the Bronze Dragon. However, my liking the scripting and editing may be prejudiced because one of my alter forms is CTOP, a silver-blue DRAGON. I was born and raised under a cloaking to prevent me from following in my maternal Grandfathers image of a true MCP, or my Fathers image of a spoiled Gentileman's "C". My Mother was an unexpected-crowned Bronze Queen in her own right. NEVER giving up, NEVER stopping championing for the rights of anyone to be held as an equal in their own worth. SHE saw the best in everyone, and they showed HER their best in return. Respect was given as a right, until the individual failed to uphold the honor required to keep it. I strive to live up to the dignity and righteousness of my Paternal Grandfather, a King among Kings, and my BRONZE mother. May they both live in the memory of those they believed in forever. In one of my more burnished ways, I say to you, Keep the Faith. Regards, Sire Blue.

Dragon Hunted

Reader’s Notes:

– this is book 2 of 3

– this is told from Kira’s point of view

– there are about 11 curse words

– there are multiple instances of Kira seeing a guy’s chest (as he can’t wear a top & shift properly)

– there is some fantasy violence

Review:

I’m really enjoying the development of the story in this trilogy! (Forewarning, this review/summary will be a little bit spoilery as Kira discovers some new things in the very beginning of the book.) I loved that Kira finds out that she has siblings and that they bond pretty quickly. I loved that her brother’s were so protective of her after barely having known her (as she is now). I loved that we got to see more of what life is like as a dragon shifter (or rather, what it should have been for Kira) and what their relations were to other supernaturals. I loved that we got to see more of Kira & Draven (and that a romance was developing!). Some of my favorite scenes/moments included: Kira hanging out with the relatives close to her age, practicing for the fight, the plot twist towards the end, the discovery of new powers, Hugh (the gargoyle), and Kira & the club owner’s family-like relationship that developed.

Summary:

After Kira and her friends discovered the person behind the shadow creatures and put a stop to them, Kira expected life to go back to being at least somewhat normal. But things don’t always go the way we expect them to. Instead of a normal life with her aunt and pets, Kira gets to continue wondering where Aunt Morgan could have gone, she inherits a gargoyle at the shop, and discovers that maybe those she thought she was being protected from actually wanted her to be safe and had thought they lost her for good. With new information and someone else after her, Kira travels to the dragon’s home in search of more answers. But when danger follows her there, there is more at stake than just her life. Will Kira be able to wade through the mess of lies to get to the truth even if it means changing her perspectives?

This series is still good, better, at times, since, obvs, I am getting more attached, know more and seen Kira go through all the previous tuff but the one issue I still kind of... *sigh* are all the "must happen to make shirt interesting" stuff. To put it simply, sometimes the plot does a very obvious choice to pursue something that I don't like/doesn't necessarily makes sense but if something interesting and adventurous is to happen, it's the "only" choice. For example (a very early reading not really a spoiler) - Kira leaves with her family. The decision is super sudden and it's like she's convincing us as well as herself of the decision and it's not necessarily a stupid one but it doesn't necessarily fit the narrative or (maybe it) isn't really inserted all that smoothly. Like the stuff at the end - of course Kira can't go but I only think that because 3rd book exists but then, it could work even if she went... but the pattern the series is following? Yeah, it knows what it wants and sticks to it.

I still really like the main characters, which is super brownie point - their relationship is slow as molasses but at the same time, the respect and support they show for each (anytime they don't turn into stupid emotional teenagers to slow down the plot) is just great to watch.

A Fantastic Sequel!

I loved this book and the characters that already feel like old friends. And getting to know Kira's dragon family was a heart-aching blast to read. I actually very much adored Kira's relationship with her brothers and how quickly they forged a fiercely strong sibling bond--complete with the hilarious, but genuine sibling-like dialogue. It was also both delightful and painful to see Kira's growing pains and know there was, undoubtedly, more to come. But her growth as a more confident and independent character, with a side of strength, and dash of courage made me root for her more with every disappointment, failure, humiliation, rejection, and reckless hope she experienced. Really, there is just so many likeable characters to root for! Add in those serious plot twists that were amazing to watch unfold in all their gloriousness, the action, betrayals, and epic world-building that made up a seriously amazing book. Can't wait for the last book; I'm already eager to find out how book 3 will conclude a truly unique and captivating series!

The author dives right into this, the second book of the Dragon of 23rd Street series. Kira is juggling a new helper - a gargoyle who is bonded to her bookstore; a new pet, new friends, and old fears about her aunt and hiding her identity. It was nice not having a lengthy recap of the first book right away, though we get background information as needed. In this story, Kira's adventures start with a surprise meeting with her real family. I won't go into it too deeply, to avoid spoiling the book for others. But the dragon enclave and way of life figure largely in this one, new interesting characters are added and we get a healthy dose of the the characters from the first book. Good character development, tension, action, with a good dash of humor and mystery in this one. I enjoyed it quite a bit and am looking forward to book three!

Good

Kira found her dragon, and was instrumental in destroying the Fae prince responsible for a treasonous plot against the Fae king.
Now, almost four months later, she has yet to hear from Draven, and suddenly she has family!
Finding her mother and brothers should have been a good thing, the problem is that it thrusts Kira into the crosshairs of people trying to gain power in the dragon community.

This is the second book in the series, and is another fast paced adventure, filled with political shenanigans and dragon training.
Kira’s brothers are a hoot, and her interactions with them made for fun reading.
I did get mad at Kira’s decisions at times, but fortunately she wasn’t able to make the mistakes she was aiming for 😁.

All in all an enjoyable and entertaining urban fantasy for enthusiasts of the genre.

Holy Crack on a cracker Batman!

Goodness gracious! I’m shocked. This book is almost more shocking than the first. Kira learned that not only was she lied to and her whole life was a lie but even more lies and secrets. Surprise! She has a dragon family. She has a pretty serious situation here. Lemme just say- Callum, Declan, and Ryker are awesome! We all know everyone is cheering for Draven. I’m definitely crossing every finger and toe that it’ll work out! But this ending- what a doozy lol. It’s beautifully, bittersweet and heartbreaking. And yet, I’m even more excited for book 3! I can’t wait to find out what Kira can do and how she is gunna fix a mess that she had no part in making but completely revolves around. It’s going to mean that all the mysteries and drama and intrigue is at full tilt and coming in hot! This has become a wonderful treat of a series!

Wow, just wow. I thought the first book was pretty great. This one blew it out of the water. Again, the world building sucks you right in. As a long time resident of the PNW, it was fun to read about an alternate Sunriver with dragons.

The character depth and development is really what blew me away. The story could have been good even if the emotions and motivations had stayed a little more surface level. Instead, Haley Ryan dove right in and explored so much more. I was repeatedly surprised by what was dug up.

The new characters were fun to meet; I can't wait to see what's in store for them. And the twists/revelations have me chomping at the bit for the next book!

I did receive a complimentary ARC; all opinions are my own and freely given.

I adored this book and can’t wait for the next one

I adored this book and I can’t wait for the next one.
It is packed full of love conflict and life changing events.

So many plots set up for the next book concluding the trilogy I just hope we will be able to see the conclusion of them all.

From browyn to the dragon factions to a certain green dragon and so many more very strong characters.

It also looks like there could be quite a few more books in this world.

I love reading about magic and dragons for without magic what is life’s meaning.

Magic and love give love meaning. I hope things can work out between her mother and herself.

Anyways looking forward to all the adventures and maybe a few surprises too.

Does not come across as YA

For those of you who hate YA, please know that this series doesn't come across as that genre. Well...maybe the first half of book one did but things rapidly improved from that point on. Our MC is smart, thank the gods of fiction. She doesn't run into situations with zero knowledge. Indeed, her lack of knowledge of her world is a sticking point with her and she does everything g she can to change that deficit. There are no tawdry love triangles and no adolescent gamey behaviors. Our MC, though overly sheltered thru her life, is careful, strong, smart and even has some wisdom. This second entry let the reader really see that, as Kira discovers more about her identity and strengths.

Continues building on strong themes ( autonomy, choice, bio/found family, connection, home). I enjoyed the romance build and the introduction of Kira's brothers. Lots of funny moments. There was only one frustration, I'll try not to be too spoily but I'm pretty sure everyone who starts this book already knows what I'm going to hint at here:

*Why did it take so long to make the black dragon, green dragon, Jaida connection? I mean, it was the first thing that would have been obvious for Kira to bring up with her mom and it KILLED me how long it even took anyone to bring it up much less figure it out.*

That was my only struggle in the book though. I really enjoyed it, OP Mary-Jane main character and all =)

I read this super fast. It may have been over several days, but that's just life interfering with reading time. I had trouble putting it down, and in fact, nearly finished it last night standing up in my kitchen in the dark with my cat meowing for a midnight snack at my feet. I was so tired, but kept thinking, "just a bit longer so I can see how this plays out...just a bit longer so I can get the resolution to that." I finally yanked myself free and finished at lunch today. Where I discovered I had a page and a half left to read. I swiped to change pages once and the book ended. I find that really funny.

Anyway, I really like who Kira is turning out to be and her strong sense of control over her own life. I also enjoyed finding out more about various kinds of dragons.

Fantastic Sequel!!

Dang it. The 2nd book was just as addictive as its predecessor. *Sigh* Now I'm going to HAVE to read the next book. Such a chore.

But seriously, I loved this book just as much as the first. And, of course, it didn't hurt that we finally got a kiss between Kira and Draven! As much as I love fantasy, it's got to have romance included as well. And I definitely didn't see that twist near the end coming. Now I'm more curious than ever to see how everything turns out in the next book. Luckily, it's already written, so I can--and soon will--download it on my Kindle to enjoy.

I absolutely loved this sequel. When I got my ARC, I didn’t read the synopsis. I just knew I wanted to read the next book. I didn’t expect she’d end up meeting the family hell bent on killing her. And it’s not quite what it seems. There was the fantasy, dragons, battles, and romance but it went above and beyond.

I couldn’t put this book down, nor the last book. I’m usually one of those people that say the first book or first movie is the best and how sequels fall short from the original. This book goes beyond my expectations. It’s a worthwhile read. You will not be disappointed.

Better than the First Book

This book pulled on the heart strings. Chest hurting kind of boom. this is not just on the romance end, but from the additional characters added to the story. Love the authors writing of these characters. Loved the main characters “new” brothers and how they all sort of had the same sass as she does.

My only wish was for a bit more romance, I kind of feel like the main character is always loosing with Draven (sort of always picking honor on top of love). Hoping the third book gives me a bit more of this.

The second book in this amazing series and it's even better than the first. I absolutely love Kira and Draven and all her friends. In this one she meets her family and she realizes not everything is as she had thought about the dragons and a lot of her life. I truly could not put this down once I started and just really enjoyed it so much. Now I absolutely can not wait for book 3 because I need more.

A strong continuation and expansion on the first book. Kira's take-no-nonsense attitude helped her through a number of curveballs, and I really enjoyed the development with her bio family as well as her understanding of herself and those she values beyond that family.

There was more romantic entanglement and some kissing, as well as a little more strong language, in this installment; still what I would consider a fairly clean UF.

Fascinating

This book is the second in the series and continues Kira's story. It really keeps your attention (stayed up way too late reading it!). The characters are great. In this part 2 of the story we get some (but not all) of the answers we are looking for! I'm loving it and looking forward to part 3.

This book started out great, I loved her sass and the world building continued. Like Kira though, the sass and the story seemed to lose it self a little bit as it progressed. The end was different and yet not.

I had the same issues with this book as I did with the last one, lack of diversity in their human forms and straddling YA and adult notions, with it not really being in either world.

Wonderfully good

I loved this books. There were beautiful emotional moments that brought me to tears. Draven only got better.Kira is my favorite MC. She's funny, fun, strong but is also not afraid of her weaknesses. This book has quickly become one of my favorites and it will definitely be one of yours.

Holy shit I love it.
Draven and Kira are so cute. Draven is so adorable I can’t. I swear he had me swooning alongside Kira.
(P. S. I was a bit weirded out for a few seconds with how Kira kept describing Declan and Ryker as ‘attractive looking’ and ‘hot’. I mean okay we get they’re good looking but pleAse stop saying it out mindloud. )

sci-fi

Dragons, usually a dragon story is enjoyable, this one does not fail my expectations. Book two of a trilogy. My only complaint is not with the author or the story but with Amazon, more and more Amazon disappoints. Prime reading (paid for) includes only some of the book(s) in a series as a bait and switch to generate purchases

The challenges that Kira faces and her attitude during them is a heroine I love to read about. She isn’t waiting for someone to rescue her but definitely appreciates it if they do. Being someone who is only 5’ I also appreciate her being short 😀 and not letting it stop her.
I am cheering for her and Draven and can’t wait for the next book!
