Bedweather is a lullaby on intimacy and isolation told through rap music, romantic vignettes, sexy interludes, and satire on American empire. The poems track a second-class entity's pursuit of love and personal empowerment within a country that has left them to fend for themselves.
Ryan Douglass is a queer author and poet from Atlanta, Georgia. He is the New York Times bestselling author of The Taking of Jake Livingston, and his short fiction appears in All These Sunken Souls and Night of the Living Queers. His poetry is featured in Poemhood: Our Black Revival and He/She/They/Us. When he’s not writing, he’s probably baking something sweet or making a playlist for a story he hasn’t written yet.
I was so moved by Douglass's debut poetry collection, Boy in Jeopary and one is just as impressive. The poems alternate between touching and scathing, and Douglass's voice just leaps off the page. I really hope there is more poetry coming from this gifted author soon!
Another amazing collection by Ryan Douglass. I had to set it down for a moment to just absorb some of the poems and his rhythm and flow is so well done. Highly recommend this and if you haven't read his other collection yet, I also recommend Boy in Jeopardy.
