This book read like an action movie. Miranda Vaughn has been framed with fraud but the jury has just found her not guilty. Unfortunately the finance world won't forget so she either figures out who did it or finds herself another career. She chooses to figure it out. The story takes her to several places around the world and the complexity comes in when she encounters an FBI agent with personal reasons to be investigating the same people she is trying to figure out. Bad guys, speeding bullets, chases, double-crosses, etc. It is exciting and fun! I spent the whole book cheering Miranda on.

Humor, mystery, and some intrigue. This was a woman’s show. She had to prove that she was innocent even after being acquitted. The proof of her innocent was left in her hands. She had to find the truth. She lost too much. Suspicious clung to her like a thick grey cloud on a rain fogged day. Miranda finds herself on a mission to find out who and why she was framed for something she did not do. Along the way she finds more than just the truth. She finds a friend, ally, and a bigger problem than the missing $37 million.

Miranda was a character that you could easily be drawn to and the situations she found herself in. This was an up-n-down ride of highs and lows in her adventures to find the truth. Accusations and bullet flew through this one. The trips to one place or another did not stop her pursuer. She had to find out who and why. Along the way, she never expected or counted on the FBI. Even with Jakes working the case his own way they seem to find themselves working together a lot. Much happens in the process of getting answer. There are those that don’t want those answers to be found.

The Narrator . . . of CHASING THE DOLLAR (Miranda Vaughn Mysteries, #1) . . . Terri Schnaubelt had me drawn in to the world of Miranda Vaughn with her cadence that put me at ease. I loved the flow she provided with the various notes in her voice pitch and tone. I found the quality of the audio was smooth and professional. The timing was just what I needed.

Source: Purchased book on kindle
Genre: Adult, Mystery/Thriller, Action

This book is book one in a series that follows a woman named Miranda who is accused of fraud. She goes through the process of being arrested and everything, and she is found not guilty. She returns home just to find out that her life is no longer the same as it once was. She barley has any money, so she has to move in with her aunt. She cannot find a job because no one wants to hire her based on the run in she just had with the law. So to clear her name she decides to go and figure out what actually went on. She also runs in with an FBI Agent who is researching the case as well, so we follow them on their journey.

This book had a good amount of action, but I felt as though it was too short. The plot and characters could have been developed a bit more. The plot was sped through in my opinion and could have been slowed down and explained more. We are just thrust into the world towards the middle of the book and the characters seem to be confused themselves. The love in the book was a bit instant and under-developed. The love was not slow burning, but just seemed to be lust. I really did not enjoy this book, and I will not be continuing with this series.

In Chasing the Dollar by Ellie Ashe, Miranda has just survived the harrowing experience of having been arrested and tried for embezzlement, with her bosses testifying against her as part of their plea bargain. Against all odds, she actually gets acquitted, but she finds then that no one trusts her enough to hire her. So she decides to seek out the truth about who set her up in order to prove her innocence.

This one was just alright with me - a lot of action but the romance was a bit lacking to me. I'm not sure I found it all that believable either. It wasn't bad it just isn't something I'm going to remember nor does it really inspire me to want to read the next book unless it's to find out where Miranda's romance goes next.

5★ Audiobook⎮Some things come into your life when you need them most. Chasing the Dollar found its way to me (via Ellie Ashe) at the exact right moment. I was suffering from an overdose of Horror titles and had just been nearly traumatized by The Walking Dead season premiere. This cozy mystery was the perfect remedy. If you’re looking for a cozier version of Mike Wells’ Lust, Money and Murder, look no further.

Everything about Chasing the Dollar was executed in stellar fashion. It was incredibly fun to listen to and easy to follow along with. Ellie Ashe’s writing style is fantastic. She paints vibrant and vivid imagery with her words and transports the listener across the globe with Miranda.

Miranda Vaughn is an excellent protagonist. I felt almost immediate empathy for her since her situation could happen to anyone. I found her both relatable and admirable. I never wavered in rooting for her. She was very well-written and came across as a multifaceted character. None of the characters in Chasing the Dollar were “over-the-top”.

An issue I often have with cozy mysteries is that they are prone to cheesiness. An author has to work for my suspension of disbelief. I don’t just hand it over automatically. Ashe’s character development is subtle and intertwined with the gradually intensifying plot. I became wrapped up in the story without even realizing it. That is skilled storytelling.

Furthermore, the romance in Chasing the Dollar also wins my approval. That’s an honor few literary romances get to hold. Its slow and natural progression made it very believable and kept the focus on the larger plot. I will, without a doubt, be continuing on with this series and I have high hopes for its remaining installments.

Narration review: Teri Schnaubelt’s narration is new to me, but I won’t soon forget it. The narration was almost as enjoyable as the story. Her voice has a beautiful timbre. Teri’s performance gave the narration a very natural and pleasing rhythm. She showed excellent judgment in timing and her voice exuded emotion appropriate to every scene. I hope to hear more from her soon. ♣︎

Miranda Vaughn has been through hell lately. She’s been accused and arrested for fraud and her court battle has cost her dearly. She lost her job, her fiance, her financial security, and the trust of friends and colleagues. Now, even with the not guilty verdict, she hasn’t been able to find a job in the financial district. Instead she works at her aunt’s bakery. Miranda becomes convinced that her name won’t be truly clear until she finds who is really behind the fraud. As she digs into details of her own case, she uncovers plenty that makes her think she can catch the real culprit. Bouncing about the globes chasing that elusive dollar, she’s joined by the FBI agent Jake Barnes (who is rather suspicious of her motives).

This was an easy mystery to get caught up in. Right away, we have Miranda who society (and some white collar criminals) has wronged. She’s been set up to take the fall for this financial fraud. I was on her side from the opening scene. As I learned more about her, I liked her even more. She was raised by her aunt who owns that bakery and her aunt loves her dearly. In fact, her aunt’s bakery is on the line in the upcoming civil suits as those who lost their savings try to wring it out of Miranda. She can’t stand for that so she starts digging and each clue leads to another and another. Pretty soon she’s off to Monaco with a half-baked plan.

Enter our hunky main man, FBI agent Jake. He’s the guy who actually arrested Miranda all those months ago, so she’s really not thrilled about him showing up. However, the militant folks with guns seem more threatening in that moment, so an unsteady truce is called. The two join forces even as they shoot skeptical looks at each other. I loved that they didn’t instantly trust each other even as we know there is a spark of interest there.

The mystery remains the center focus of this novel, which I appreciated (not being a Romance genre fan overmuch). Someone put together a clever scheme and had Miranda’s personal info to set her up. She has a list of people who could have done it. Now from the beginning of the book, I did guess who the main bad guy was going to be. I’m going to call it a lucky guess. At any rate, Miranda didn’t figure out who all the bad guys were until the main villain was standing in front of her with a pistol in hand.

When I thought the mystery was wrapped up, I still had perhaps another 2 hours left in the book. The author does a good job of wrapping up any loose ends. I was worried I might be a little bored with such a long wrap up but the author made it pertinent and enjoyable. I look forward to Book 2!

I received a free copy of this book via The Audiobookworm.

The Narration: Teri Schnaubelt did a really good job with Miranda’s emotions. When Miranda was shocked, so was I. When she was feeling all tingly towards Jake, I was right there with her. Schnaubelt has a good range of voices so all the characters were distinct.

I REALLY enjoyed this book! I have been getting sick of some of the chic lit mysteries because they all seem to be the same. A love triangle between a women, law enforcement and the bad guy. This book however was different and fun. I loved the writing it was engaging, entertaining and enjoyable. The main character Miranda was awesome. I love how she was falsely accused. Her main love interest Jake was a good character as well. The dynamic between the two was charged with attraction. I was so hoping the 2 would get together but cant wait to see what the next book brings for them. One of my new favorite chic lit series.

Action packed. Once Miranda decides that she wants to prove her innocent, after spending more that a year in jail, it is a roller coaster ride of lies and betrayal. She doesn't know who or what she can trust. Danger is around every corner. She puts her trust in the same FBI agent who was working on keeping her in jail, after being attacked.
Working together they solved the mystery of who really did it.
Story ended abruptly, with no closure between Miranda and the FBI agent. Will have to read more in the series to find out how it really ends.

Loved this book. Began to read and didn't stop until I read the first chapter of the next book. Wow what fun. The characters were well defined and very well developed. Some of the situations were a little over the top,but I wouldn't mind it as a movie.

Happens quite frequently, a person is set up for fraud in a company. All the charges come to not guilty, but someone wants you dead because of what you know. Then you are pursued along with a good guy FBI agent to Macau to Belize? Shot at many times

Excellent!

Detailed enough to hold interest, but not so detailed you get lost or bored, or both.

There's a lot going on this story too. It's got intrigue, romance, action, humour, betrayal, suspense - really everything you need in a gripping good tale.

Really enjoyed this book! Would have rated it higher if a little proof reading had caught the myriad of typos and grammar errors. Reminiscent of the Fox and O'Hare series by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg.

I loved this book, although every time I read a similar plot, I become more paranoid. I'm always skeptical of the justice system but this time an FBI agent was also involved.

There certainly was enough excitement, especially for poor Jake. Getting shot and stabbed would not make my day.

BEING DECLARED NOT GUILTY - DOES NOT PROVE YOU WERE INNOCENT--
when the book started with "we find the defendant not guilty" it had my attention- miranda was framed by someone in her investment company - and millions of dollars are missing - after a year of fighting 15 charges of fraud she is ready to go back to her old life- problem is - her finance dumped her and has moved on - her firm will not hire her back and neither will any other investment company - her old friends want nothing to do with her and she and her aunt's properties were either sold or mortgaged and they are in debt up to their eyebrows from paying the legal fees. feeling a little resentful. and bored working at her aunts bakery miranda starts to work part time for her former attorney on other fraud and number cases- not something she wants to do but they need the money - then to make matters worse within a month or so after the criminal case she gets sued by the investors in a civil case- she and her aunt could loose the bakery ==one night it hits her - if she follows the money she can prove she is innocent and maybe even get the money back - s so begins a suspenseful - fast paced thrill ride with bad guys chasing and shooting at them from macau to belize where she and the fbi agent jake who originally arrested her are thrown together through strange circumstances and are forced to work together to find jakes brother in law who is missing and who holds the key to where the money went -- i loved this book- the author explained financial terms without making it boring - so we could follow the adventure with ease- every time we thought miranda would finally clear her name - a new twist was thrown into the mix- -- the romance between jake and miranda started very slow and just when we thought at last- they had to get the hell out of dodge- who framed miranda?- will she get back with her finance dylan?- can they trust the fbi?- will they find jakes brother in law? will miranda be declared innocent?--- to find the answer you will have to read the book- i just wish the next one was ready to read- i would have bought it and be eagerly reading to see how the story continues

Chasing the Dollar is an action-packed mystery thriller. Miranda Vaughn has been framed and on trial for embezzling million of dollars from the financial firm, she worked for. All of her friends and her fiance have abandoned her. When she has been found innocent, Miranda set off to find who has frame her and why. One thing she didn't expect was bumping into the FBI agent, Jake Barnes, who arrested her when the embezzling scandal broke.

Jake Barnes is trying to find out what has happened to his sister's ex-husband, who has disappeared from the same firm that Miranda used to work for. As their agendas seemed to collide with each other, Miranda reluctantly agreed to work with Jake to find his brother-in-law and to discover who was behind the embezzlement that ran deeper than the financial firm, Miranda worked for.

I was listening to the audiobook, Chasing the Dollar. The beginning was slow as to provide the readers/listeners the background of what has happened to Miranda Vaughn. Once Miranda decided to fly half way across the world of where all the embezzling transactions originated from and partnering with Jake, the story is a non-stopped action packed thriller.

I love that Miranda is an intelligent heroine who could think on her feet when she is in a tough situation. Jake on the other hand, is cool and collective and always seemed to know when Miranda is less than honest with him. I also loved that physical attraction that both tried to fight and ignore. Miranda cannot forgive Jake for arresting her especially when she doesn't even know him. Jake didn't believe that Miranda was totally innocent and that she was framed.

Readers/Listerners can relate to some of the heroine's actions. When her captured promised that Miranda was not going to be harm, I was thinking "Liar" just as I heard the narrator, Terri Schnaubelt narrated "Liar." I have to chuckle about my response.

I can't wait for the next book and see Miranda and Jake's relationship develops.

I was given this audiobook from the author via Audiobook Blast in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.

Nothing better than find a new author who keeps you up all hours of the night reading her book. I love a good mystery and this was had all the elements to make it one great all night read. Love able Heroine, sexy romantic interest, murder, mayhem, and great dialogue.

Miranda Vaughn has spent the last year fighting for her freedom when she is accused of a fraud involving her superiors. She loses her job at a prestigious investment firm, she loose her fiancé, and to top it off she loose her reputation. When Miranda decides to investigate her own case she finds a large scheme that involves more money than the 37 Million she was suspected of stealing from investors. When the danger heats up so does Miranda feelings for a certain FBI agent.

Miranda is a great characters who has the support of other minor characters her Aunt Marie, the lawyer Rob Froggs and her friend Sarah. I hope Ms. Ashe will bring out those in future novels. Miranda is an intelligent, and a spunky person who loves numbers but has no idea that people do not have the same moral code she has. They do not care about the people who they scammed and only want her to finish what they started. Miranda has a heart and passion for the people she cares about and will do anything to keep them safe. Miranda crosses the globe, goes undercover and finds herself falling for FBI agent Jake whom she is not sure she can trust. After all he put the handcuffs on her.

This book has all the ingredients to make a great mystery with a strong heroine, a love interest for when the book has down time and enough chase scenes to keep you reading until the last the very last page. Chasing the Dollar book has great dialogue that is well written and has a natural flow never once causing the reader to be pulled out of a scenes. The story is well thought out and it had a natural flow from one scene to anther until you wish her second book was already out.

There is swearing but it doesn’t take away from the story it only flows with how the character is feeling.

I've read two books now by the author and have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. In this particular tale, Miranda is arrested for bank fraud along with a couple of her co-workers. They stand accused of bilking a large group of investors out of their hard earned money. Miranda goes on trial and is ultimately found not guilty. However, her reputation is in ruins and no one wants to hire her. Plus, there's still a chance of a civil suit being brought against her which could cause her beloved aunt to lose her bakery. The woman had raised Miranda and had already sacrificed most of her life savings to pay for Miranda' s attorney. Determined to prove her innocence and recover the swollen money, Miranda launches an investigation of her own. She heads for Macau, following the only lead she has at the moment. When she gets there she breaks into her firm's office and runs into Jake, the FBI agent who slapped the cuffs on her when they came to arrest her. As such, she's loathe to trust him. He explains that he's looking for his ex brother-in-law who's gone missing. While Jake's sister is no longer married to the man, he is the father of her children so she asks Jake to find him. As it turns out, Miranda is looking for the same person, insisting he's the one who framed her or at least opened the accounts with her name on them. It gets crazy at this point as they are chased by the bad guys, are shot at, held prisoner at one point and threatened with certain death. The story was action packed with several twists and turns as to what was really going on. Once I started it I didn't want to put it down. There was also a spark of attraction between Miranda and Jake that will no doubt be picked up again with the next book in the series. Looking forward to finding out what comes next for them.

This is the first book of a new series and what a start! This story pulls in the reader from the very beginning where we meet poor Miranda while she is helping out her lovely aunt by working in her bakery. Her former high powered job in the world of finance is gone, her reputation has been tainted leaving her virtually unemployable.
Miranda decides to find the truth, she just has to prove herself totally innocent in order to regain her self respect, peace of mind and, of course, a job.
This is high energy stuff, careering along with adventure and excitement all the way, there's some incredibly smart computer stuff going on, who knew what goes on in the world of finance? Sometimes, in a first book, laying the foundations for a future series can be a bit overdone which detracts from the story, but here, the author did this well. Also, the uglier side of human nature is well described, reminding us that we don't always know those who are close to us as well as we think we do.
Thoroughly enjoyable, I look forward to the next Miranda Vaughn (I keep wanting to write Vaughan!)
Narrator
Teri Schnaubelt is a talented and experienced narrator and this shines through her work, but I particularly admire the way she portrays emotion without overdoing it, I can't bear an "actressy" performance. Great pace and rhythm delivered with a lovely crystal voice. Very polished gender changes and characterisations, each one as distinct and individual as the characters themselves, excellent narration.
