Kishi's bad writing at it again. He could've given Sakura a few training panels where she could've developed her Genjutsu abilities, come up with a new jutsu of her own, even a new fighting style, 'cause she would've been a one-hit beast with that illusions-brute force combo. As Konoha's best Genjutsu user, Kurenai could've been her sensei for that training and finally get some much needed screen time. Out of the 4 teams, hers' never got the chance to have their spotlight, and out of the 4 sensei, she's never had any relevance to the action whatsoever, except for serving as Asuma's love interest and the retired single mother of their child. A kunoichi that is regarded as the best in her area of expertise. It's so bothering.

A bit boring and unremarkable, honestly. The new Akatsuki members are weird, which was the intention, I guess, but they are also totally unrelatable. Two weird dudes going around and chopping people's heads off while amusing themselves with supposedly witty repartees. Pfft.

Naruto starts his new training, with Kakashi this time, and that, however, is always cool to watch.

Not much happens here, as this volume mostly serves as a setup.

Oh, I adore Tobi so much. One of the best villains of all time for so many reasons.

Hidan and Kakuzu are great as well.

Not a single volume of this series has earned anything less than five stars thus far. (But don't get too excited. Trust me, we'll get there.)

So, after Naruto fails again in rescuing much stronger Sasuke, he begins a new training with Kakashi. It is good and this one does not seem a boring training arc like before. There is a lot of explaining about technicalities of Jutsu and I liked it.

Meanwhile, there are new characters introduced. New Akatsuki Members. Hidan and Kakuzu. They are cool members and with new abilities but what are they is still a mystery.

There's a lot of great moments in this volume but it's the pacing that just doesn't work for me here. Everything is accelerated and a lot is rushed when it could have all been stretched out a bit more and made it far more interesting.

The hunt for the Tailed Beasts is sped up although these newly introduced members of the Akatsuki are incredibly intriguing. Naruto, on the other hand, is going through a new training session to catch up to his foes and get on their level. Although it's all quick to read and suspenseful, it's simply unfortunate that it's not developed more.

Naruto busied himself with another tormenting training regimen to catch up to his rival Sasuke. He's got the gist of it, but mastering it completely will take some time. Meanwhile, Akatsuki are hunting Tailed Beasts like crazy and their motives still remains a total mystery. For a villain, Toby sure is a chirpy fellow. 😅

Two fun aspects to this volume: The collection of the tailed beasts, and Naruto's quick-training technique. At first, I really enjoyed seeing the akatsuki members get fleshed out and the introduction of Tobi, then it was the glimpses of the tailed beasts as they fell. But it was really seeing Naruto use his particular quirks to great advantage that made this volume stand out.

Honestly, I kept wishing, sincerely, that I had his ability. Oh the books I'd read. :)

Unable to bring the much stronger Sasuke back, Naruto trains harder. Sasuke being his sole motivation. After the accident with Sakura getting hurt because of him, Naruto swears not to use the Nine-Tails' chakra in order to get stronger. He trains much more than he always had in order to create his own technique. The Fire Country has been attacked and the last of the Twelve has been killed by the Akatsuki members. Team Asuma has been sent to find them and what awaits is another terrifying battle with Hidan and Kakuzu. We get to know now that the Akatsuki are targetting Jinchuuriki in order to capture the tailed beasts' Chakra

After the not so successful mission to bring Sasuke back to the village, Naruto and the rest of Team 7 return to Konoha. Upon their return Kakashi informs Naruto of a way to learn the Ultimate Jutsu if he trains hard enough. Always up for the task Naruto doesn't hesitate to say yes as he wants to get stronger to save Sasuke. In other events, two new Akatsuki members make their debut, Hidan and Kakuzu. They succesfully take down the Two-Tails and slowly make their way to finding the next Jinchuriki in the Land of Fire!

Naruto does a bunch of training, Another user who had one of the two tails beast in them is hunted and must trying to survive, and a new mission for one of our major characters begins. Nothing over the top, felt more middle of the road volume, but decent bridge to the next big fights. A 3 out of 5.

Another fun training sequence for Naruto! But it’s remarkable to me that the training hasn’t become boring or stale yet! We’re slowly learning more and more about jutsu and the lore behind everything so it makes for an engaging read.

Kakashi and Yamato train Naruto. The Akatsuki members are hella weird. Damn, the last volume was so good! This one fell a little short for me though. I get that we have to see the training and stuff for things to make sense, but I just find it hard to get into it.
