We know that gut health is important. What and how you eat affects your energy levels, your brain function, how you feel, your work performance, your skin, your weight, how well you age and your long-term health. There isn’t much else in life under your control that has that kind of awesome power and all of these effects start with what happens in the gut.
At the same time, never before have we been so confused over what we should eat!
Dr Joanna McMillan cuts through the nonsense, bust the myths and misconceptions and translates the extraordinary emerging science of the gut and the gut-brain link, that explains just how your food choices impact your health and happiness. Each episode explains the everyday science, but also tells you exactly what you should be eating to improve your gut health.

Gutfull is an Audible Original podcast available free with a subscription, written and narrated by Australia-based Scottish nutritionist Dr Joanna McMillan. Over eight episodes she explains the way our intestines function, the importance of nutrition, the connection between our guts and our friends, the role of the microbiome, common problems, and how to go about improving them. I listened to it while running and enjoyed her friendly no-nonsense delivery and commonsense advice. While much of it was not new to me, she puts forward the latest evidence based research and simple suggestions on how to improve both gut and overall health, ending each episode with the key take home messages. Recommended to anyone interested in learning more about the workings of their insides, and particularly if you suffer from IBS, constipation, food intolerances or heartburn.
An excellent, engaging overview of the basics of gut health. Dr. Joanna is super relatable, well informed, and manages to get through 10 episodes talking about gut health and digestion, while keeping it light hearted. Def recommend! Audible ☺️
Well narrated and beginner friendly introduction to gut health and nutritious eating. The episodes are bite sized and cover a range of areas- from the science of our bodies, to busting common myths and fads, to providing actionable tips and tricks, even for infrequent ailments like IBS and gluten allergies. Made me also fondly recall the food charts from science classes back in 3rd grade, which was a surprising plus.
While one can argue there were things in here we already know, I did find all the episodes enlightening and I'm glad I picked it up. Hope to work on myself through this.
This was interesting, it contains lots of useful information and advice. But by listening to it instead of reading it I missed some of the things she was talking about; there was just too much to take in.
[Audiobook] I've been having trouble with my gut since July last year so this was a much welcomed listen that will hopefully help me get my gut back on track. It's easy to listen to (nice accent!) not "too informative" and tells you everything you need to know about the dos and donts. Thanks Joanna!
I gave this podcast/book 1.5 chapters/podcasts to engage me. I know a reasonable amount about healthy eating so maybe this just wasn't aimed at me. But it came across as condescending and preachy. I'm not listening to any more of it.
3.5 I've got lots of bookmarks to go back over again, some useful information in here. Wish it was available in book form so I could follow up research articles
A great book with plenty of information. Dr Joanna McMillan speaks in layman terms and does not go into too technical(medical) details which makes it so easy to understand what she is talking.
She provides a good overview of how our gut may react to certain foods and how we can improve our eating habits. The book also helps clear some misconceptions about food and eating habits. It explains why we need a diversity in our diet, the role of probiotics and prebiotics, the best diet in the world (totally agree with her on that), fiber importance, and some not so pleasant but important topics. The short summary of tips after each episode is gold.
Highly recommend to someone who is new or in the beginning of their journey towards healthy eating.
What I liked about this book was that it is an easy to follow anecdotal approach to gut health with nice, simple recommendations. & it’s split nicely into bite sized (pun intended) episodes.
I would have appreciated more original content and maybe some deeper dives in to the science supporting the points made and any recommendations. I didn’t feel like I learned anything new here. That said, it’s a nice easy intro in to the microbiome, gut health and the gut brain connection.
Although similar, I preferred Gut by Dr. Giulia Enders more.
This is a free audible series on how to improve your gut health and have a healthier gut microbiome using diet and lifestyle changes. Overall I thought it was very good very informative and quite entertaining and easy to listen to.
Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I appreciate the research and info provided in this audiobook. Would likely recommend to anyone wondering about their gut health. Great narration. Well done!
Listened to this on Audible, it was my first book of a kind. Not bad, learnt some valuable insight, changed the shameful way I felt when thinking/talking/making farts or burp, I only gave it 3 stars because I think the whole book could.ve been shortened to 1/3 of it.s lenght.
Overall an interesting read, some chapters more than others. Some clear explanations and practical advice on eating more healthily and understanding of some stomach issues.
Enjoyed listening to the author narrate this book on Audible. It was educational with regard to the digestion process and issues related to it. And, she has a lovely voice to boot.
