The Savage Errands series is a fantasy adventure series set in the ancient city of Anzioch in the desert kingdoms of Sanzakarth. The series revolves around Princess Tristanué Yale, who travels to Anzioch to aid a noble order of knights in liberating the city from a mad queen and defending it from a rapacious warlord set on capturing it.
David Jetrè a creative professional working in the advertising and film industries.
Jetrè’s first novel, Elsuon - The Stoncutter’s Son, was published in August 2019. The first of ten books, the series follows the adventures of Allesson, a young architect’s son, who travels with his family to the strange country of Nymiria. There, in the opening years of a great war, Allesson must balance his loyalty to his family, to fate, and to a strange woman who promises him something he cannot deny.
Jetrè’s second book, Savage Errands - Vol. 1, is also set in the World of Elsuon and follows the adventures of a young princess in the sandy kingdom of Sanzakarth. Savage Errands was released in December 2020.
Full disclosure: This book was written by a good friend of mine, and I bought this book to read what he’s written.
This book builds on the events that took place in the book Elsuon: The Stonecutter’s Son. There is further world-building in this book, which is quite detailed. Jetre once again demonstrates his wordsmith skills, as well as his incredible imagination.
However, I feel the book devoted too much attention to world-building, although the inclusion of several appendices, maps, and a glossary are certainly helpful. I enjoyed the action sequences towards the end of the novel much more, and in my opinion, I think this book would be much more enjoyable if Jetre were to weave the world-building and the action together in a way that allows him to show rather than tell the many details of this amazing world that he’s created.
