The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge by Maisey Yates
Gold Valley book 14. Can be read as a stand-alone. Contemporary romance.
Mallory moves to Gold Valley to basically restart her life and be closer to her brother. When her landlord is handed a baby, Mallory jumps in with care and commitment.

Small town, their one time encounter turns into more and of course she falls in love with the baby.
I enjoyed their romance but I prefer more dialog driven stories. Both hero and heroine were very introspective (pages and repetitive) and acknowledged their emotional issues and then overcame them like a flip of a switch. A little too easily for me. And I admit her “I can’t” had me mad and wanting to say “wake up!”
Happy for the hea in the end.

This is a Cowboy Romance, and this is the 14th book in the Gold Valley series. This is not a sweet and cute romance. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I do love the other books in this series. I have read and reviewed all the other books in the Gold Valley series before reading this book. There is steamy parts in this book, but most of this book the two main characters fights the romance. Mallory and Colt need each other to get over their issues they have been running from facing. I really love these characters, and I loved this book. I love the emotions the characters worked through in this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin) or author (Maisey Yates) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.︎︎

The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge is the first book from Maisey Yates that I have read and WoW! what an impressive read. I have no clue why I waited so long to read her books. Well, as they say, better late than never. This emotionally laden story will wreak havoc on one’s emotions, while allowing the characters to worm their way into the reader’s heart.

🎧︎The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge is the 14th book in the Gold Valley series. However, it works as as a standalone. Some of the characters from the previous books made an appearance, whetting my appetite for their stories.

This installment gives us Colt and Mallory’s story. The story began with Mallory moving to Gold Valley after dumping her cheating boyfriend. She came to Gold Valley to re-invent herself and utilise her midwifery skills. Feeling free for the first time in a long while, she resolved to indulge her fantasy of a one-night stand with the handsome cowboy she met six months ago. Of course, she thought she would never see him again after the deed was done. To her dismay, the handsome stranger who gave her the best sex of her life turned out to be her new landlord and her sister-in-law’s cousin. Talk about awkward.

Colt and Mallory were both poster children for painful baggage. Pain, loss, guilt, inadequacies and secrets permeated their lives. Now they both were not looking for a committed relationship. Learning about their past allowed the reader to understand their fears. They fought their attraction to each other, but the lingering memories of their one-night stand wreaked havoc on their senses. Then introducing a newborn baby placed them in an even more tenuous position.

There are many facets to Colt and Mallory, and I had an interesting time figuring out each of them.  Both are strong individuals which was evidenced by how they maintained their sanity after all the mess life threw at them.

I loved the manner in which Yates delivered the story. As the reader, I was privy to their inner thoughts and feelings. It made their struggles so realistic. Yates bared their raw emotions throughout the pages. So prepare for an emotional roller coaster ride if you choose to read this book.

The story featured some sweet moments, which will warm the coldest of hearts. I loved how Colt and Mallory opened up to each other in ways they couldn’t with others. Their chemistry and connection felt authentic.

Narration

Samantha Cook narrated. She is a new to me narrator. I enjoyed her performance. Her female voices were fine, but I was not keen on her male voices. However, this did not take away from the beauty of the story.

Conclusion/Recommendation

🎧︎The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge is a heartfelt story of love, healing and forgiveness. Thiis is a story that reach down into your soul and touch your heart.

Favourite Quotes

“I’ll protect you, forever,” he said. He wanted to speak vows to this child. So that she would know. “And if it was all for this. If it was all for you… It’s enough. And I’ll be the best I can be. Because that’s what you deserve. You don’t deserve any less. There’s a lot of imperfect love inside me."

“No,” he said. “What isn’t fair is that you’re alive. You’re alive— Trent is dead. You’re alive— my parents are dead. You’re alive and you don’t want to live. And believe me, that would’ve been the pot calling the kettle black just a couple of weeks ago. And I realize that now. There is no point in going on about everything if you’re just doing it to stay safe. I love you. And yeah, I want it all. The deepest, messiest parts of you. I want you to need me, the way that I need you. I want you to be mine. The way that I want to be yours. And when you can take that. When you can handle it… Well, then you can find me.”

“Mallory,” her father said, speaking after a long silence. “I wish I woulo you years ago. I wish I would’ve had the words to say it years ago. But special does not come from what you do. It is not grades on a report card, or a degree on the wall. It isn’t money in the bank. Special comes from being loved . When people love you, you occupy an essential place in their world. You are special, Mallory. Because we couldn’t live without you. Simply because you’re you. And I’m sorry that we did a bad job of making sure you knew that that love wasn’t dependent on anything. I’m sorry that our encouragement became impossible hoops for you to jump through. Because it was never meant to be.”

Well, this one was extra good since I was able to read it back to back with the previous one.

I loooooooved Mallory and Colt. I liked both of them in the snippets we’ve seen before and it was fantastic getting the backstory. They’re both such good people who find something in each other they didn’t know they needed. They had instant chemistry and enough UST to choke someone.

Plot wise, it was good. I’m not usually one for a baby plot line, but it worked so well. There’s a lot of inner monologue in this story and for once, I was here for all of it. I really enjoyed reading the shifting feelings, the insecurities, and the joy. Of course I would have liked a longer epilogue, but I’m probably being greedy.

Overall, this might be my favorite of the series. These two characters were so easy to root for and I know it’ll be a book I read again.

**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**

Maisey Yates is always a go to author for me. I enjoy this series and my visit back to Sunset Ridge did not disappoint.
Newly single Mallory is ready to start over in Sunset Ridge, where her brother lives. She’s trying to heal from her past but when she locks eyes with Colt, sparks fly and she gives into them on the basis that it’ll just be a fling/one night stand. She doesn’t count on getting feelings for him. Colt on the other hand, is reserved and stand-off ish as a result of a major loss in his past. He’s forced himself to put up a wall so that he can’t get hurt again but when his best friend’s (who has passed away) girlfriend shows up with a baby she can’t take care of and gives her to Colt to raise, Colt is forced to face his demons and let the tiny miracle into his heart. When Mallory and Colt realize that what they have is more than just a one night thing, Mallory freaks out and runs. Colt has to try to convince her to give him and love another chance.
Super sweet without being super cheesy, just a little bit of steam.

Maisey Yates has rekindled my love for romance and cowboys.

The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge is a contemporary romance that follows good girl and Midwife Mallory who arrives in Gold Valley for a fresh start and on her first night in encounters a dashing cowboy. The thing about fresh starts is that they are messy and so when her night fling turns out to be her landlord an adventure ensures. While trying to figure out what to do a baby is dropped off for him. I enjoyed these characters immensely and would go to Gold Valley again.

A huge thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Such a book hangover!

Gah! This book! Mallory and Colt are not only one of the sexiest couples I've read, but their story is filled with deep introspection and heartbreaking turmoil and by itself is a master class in the philosophy of emotional maturity. When Colt opened up to Lily I honestly had to put the book down for a moment - such raw power in his vulnerability, and in the safest and most primal of relationships, that of a man with his infant daughter. When I say this book has ALL the feels, I've never meant it more.

The soothing beauty hidden in his artistic soul, the eloquence with which he mourned his mother, the fierce devotion he directed at Mallory once he realized just how his life needed to go = this book brought everything to the table, brilliantly and exquisitely. Mallory's life was just as haunted, despite her picture-perfect upbringing, and I loved how she struggled with finding her purpose and honestly examining her previous choices. These two pull no punches, and I was simply blown away by the intensity of their entire story.

Mallory is the perfect addition to the growing Daniels family. Her connection to Griffin may have brought her to town, but she brings her own brand of caring and optimism, finding that her chosen career is exactly what her new family needs. It was pure joy to see her interact with the entire Daniels clan at their weekly Sunday dinners, and the addition of Lily to the mix was the icing on the cake.

If you like contemporary cowboy romances with loads of steam and even more heart, you owe it to yourself to read this book and, really, anything by this author. It doesn't get any better than this. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Predictable romance with a few surprises. Characters were charismatic and the plot was well-written, but the bedroom scenes were way too steamy for me. Just not my cup of tea.

I've read every novel in this series, and in Maisey Yates' previous series as well, and can state unequivocally that The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge is her best novel to date. I was hooked from the very first paragraph, and read it cover to cover until the wee hours of the morning.

If you follow my book reviews, you know that I'm always searching for depth and character development and this novel has both in spades. Mallory Chance has finally dumped her cheating user of a boyfriend of 15 years and decides to start over in Sunset Ridge as a midwife, one town away from Gold Valley. During a visit to Gold Valley 6 months earlier she had a "Some Enchanted Evening" encounter with a tall, handsome cowboy, Colt Daniels, but that's all it was, especially since she was there with her live-in boyfriend, Jared, at the time, although she never forgot that one moment of eye contact. Six months later, after she dumps her cheating, user of a boyfriend, and moves back home, she again spots her cowboy in the same saloon, and after a sizzling one-night stand, she wakes up in her motel room alone--and they've never even exchanged first names. Unbeknownst to both, they soon discover that they are related by marriage, and that their one-night stand is one more secret they need to keep to themselves..

Both of these characters have deeply rooted issues of pain, loss, guilt, inadequacy, and secrets they've kept to themselves for years, and Ms. Yates' brilliant ability to express their inner thoughts, their past trauma, losses and fears, one of which is never talking about any of them to anyone, are what made this book so captivating to this reader, and what made these two characters so compelling.

When Mallory finds her rental home, it turns out that Colt is her landlord, and when she arrives at a welcome home dinner at her brother's house, she's shocked to discover that the cowboy in question is her cousin by marriage. It seems that their one-and-done, one-night stand is not something that can be easily brushed under the rug. When a tiny baby fathered by Colt's mentee, gets dumped off into Colt's arms (he would have been its godfather had the baby's father lived to see it born), Mallory, a practicing midwife, steps up to help him. Since they both have deeply rooted issues and feelings of guilt and inadequacy, their inner turmoil at the situation they are in, their slowly growing trust in one another, and their lack of trust in themselves are what make these two characters so unforgettable.

As Mallory and Colt slowly get to know one another, we get to know them well, because their inner thoughts make up the bulk of this novel, so if you're looking for rapid-fire action instead of soul-searching, angst, characters whose personal stories will tug at your heartstrings, some serious heat, and a deeply moving psychological love story, this is not the book for you, but it was most certainly the book for this reader. I absolutely loved it, and whether you're new to Ms. Yates' novels, or hooked on her Gold Valley series, this book will be one that will turn you into an avid Maisey Yates fan--it's just that good.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Wow, this book packs a punch. It is beyond emotional and extremely steamy. Colt and Mallory are both trying to overcome traumatic pasts that have left them putting up walls for years. Mallory is dealing with the trauma of why she let herself stay in a toxic relationship for as long as she did. And Colt is dealing with yet another death of someone close to him after losing his parents as a teenager. The entire Gold Valley series is excellent and this book was no different. Mallory and Colt are both dealing with some tough issues so there is a major trigger warning for death, including stillbirth. Mallory is also a midwife so there is some significant time spent on all the things that could go wrong with a pregnancy. All this trauma is balanced out with the incredible moments between Colt and Mallory and the heartwarming community that surrounds them. However, I did think that the pacing of this story was a little off. Things were progressing along and then there was a time jump but it wasn’t confirmed until the end exactly how much time had gone past. I also think that the message Yates was trying to get across, while a beautiful one, felt a bit heavy-handed at times.

My first book by Maisey & I believe it is worthy of the 5 ⭐️ I gave it. I chuckled when Mallory told Clint he needed to put up a guardrail on the drive into the cottage. He answered…how about I get up you a guide llama? Guide raccoon? Loved when it hit Colt that he really was worthy of being loved. Thankfully when Mallory rejected his marriage proposal, her parents convinced her she was worthy of being loved. I’ll be reading more from this series

I’ll give it. 3.5, just because it was a sweet and sexy read!
This book was part of an online Bookgroup @brendanovak read for me , not one I would have normally chosen but I like to step outside my norm and possibly be exposed to new authors.
The beginning of the book is quick to jump “in the hay”, Colt, a bull riding champion and Mallory, who has just moved home after a breakup, make eye contact in a bar after only seeing each other from across the room one time 6 months ago and quickly leave the bar for an evening of passionate lovemaking without even knowing each other’s names. Colt leaves in the morning without even a goodbye. They run into each other a couple of times, a family gathering (to their surprise) and he just happens to be her landlord of the place she rented online when deciding to move “home”.
Colt made it very clear he only ever had one night stands and Mallory was okay with that because she needed time to find herself after a breakup with her long time boyfriend.
Colt lost one of his friends, Trent , on the rodeo circuit and also lost his parents at an early age and has been trying to cope with these traumas and finding it quite hard to live his “life”. Trent’s wife appears on his doorstop and says she just can’t continue to care for their newborn after Trent’s death and Colt being The Godfather of course took over care and eventually adopted the baby. This process helped him to cope with being “brave” in the right way and doing the right thing . This also opened his eyes to his feelings for Mallory and the notion of “love” ! He loved Mallory! But would she have him? Was she ready to step right back into a relationship ? She had many things to work out herself after having a stillborn baby at the age of 15 with her previous boyfriend ! She never even told her parents . Everything came to fruition and she told her parents and confided to her brother (who was always great at everything).
She decides to give in to the love she feels for
Colt and be his wife with their newly adopted baby, Lily!
Sweet and HOT read!

Wow! Talk about a story that shreds your heart into pieces just to put it back together and do it again. Mallory and Colt are the quintessential broken heroine and hero. They needed each other to heal - except they were both too hurt and protective of themselves to see that at first.

Mallory made eye contact with a stranger 6 months ago across a crowded saloon and it rocked her world. When she realized she was keeping her heart safe to the point of not living her life, she knew she needed a change. She headed back to that town and the saloon, never expecting to lock eyes with that cowboy with the electric blue eyes again...and what should have been a one-night stand turned into much more.

Ms. Yates has penned a heartwrenching modern cowboy romance that had me rooting for Mallory and Colt from the start. Fate brought them together and wouldn't let them get in their own way. If you're looking for a spicy romance with emotional depth, this is a wonderful story.

I bought this book to read for Brenda Novak's book group monthly read and my honest review is not influenced in any way.

I love a good cowboy romance. Part of this is because they tend to be big cozy family stories. I love a series that gives us glimpses of past characters and potential stories to come and Maisey Yates does this so well. True Cowboy does just that. It's the story of Mallory and Colt and their instantly hot connection. Coming from a bad relationship, Mallory is looking for independence and growth. She doesn't think that she wants what Colt can offer her and he doesn't think he can offer it. But when a baby gets dropped off to him unexpectedly, they need to work together to take care of her. Their forced proximity and instant connection adds the best kind of tension and heat and kept me listening until I just had to finish on kindle because I NEEDED to know what happened. If you are a fan of long series, strong family stories, and steamy romance - you need to read this book.

It is deep into the series, but I started in the middle. They can absolutely be read stand alone.

It you like books with a lot heat in them, then this book is for you. I wasn’t expecting a throbbing loins type book when I decided to read it. I thought the story was a bit predictable. I found myself irritated with Mallory and her constant obsessing about her old boyfriend. I’m sure they’re many who will enjoy this book but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

"There were so many layers to him, and she had no idea how to dig down and get through them. Maybe there was no way. But there were these moments. Unguarded and beautiful, when she could see bits of the depth of him. And she had a feeling that not even he really wanted to see it. That he was in denial of all the things he was. And she could understand it in a way, because she didn't particularly like to examine pieces of herself either."

FINAL DECISION: Exactly what I needed. This is a serious emotional book about two adults who have experienced a crisis in their lives and are rebuilding. From the beginning "one-night stand" to Mallory and Colt spending time together getting to know one another's story, I really was engrossed in the story of these two people.

THE STORY: Mallory Chance has just ended a 15-year relationship and to mark a new beginning, she goes to a bar to see if she can find the man she hasn't forgotten about in six months. There she meets her fantasy man and they spend a single night together never expecting to meet again. Of course, he ends up being her new landlord. Colt Daniels has come to town after a tragedy had him leaving his job as a rodeo cowboy. The two are determined to keep their distance until the infant daughter of a deceased friend is left in Colt's care and he needs Mallory's help.

OPINION: This was an immensely satisfying book for the soul. Two good people who are making their way through life, trying to do the right thing. Failing, getting up, and moving forward. I was thoroughly engrossed in the story as I wanted to know how things worked out between Mallory and Colt.

The book starts out hot as Mallory and Colt have a one-night stand. The heat between these two carries the book through a lot of quiet moments as Mallory and Colt struggle through figuring out what this new phase of their life is and what the purpose and meaning in this life should be.

The book is emotional in a real and human way -- not overwrought or unnecessarily dramatic. Instead, two humans work through their past baggage to find out how they can move forward in a productive way.

I really liked that both of these characters are strong and independent. They have needs for one another and others in their lives but they are not clingy or dependent -- just human seeking connection.

This is a feel-good book that was very enjoyable and made me happy as I finished the last page.

WORTH MENTIONING: I had never read this author before but as soon as I finished this book, I purchased the rest of the books in this series to find out the supporting characters' backstories.

CONNECTED BOOKS: THE TRUE COWBOY OF SUNSET RIDGE is the fourteenth book in the Gold Valley series. The book can be read as a standalone. This is my first book by this author, and while there are other characters that appear from prior books (obviously), I didn't feel like I had to know anything about those stories to like this book.

STAR RATING: I give this book 4 stars.

Maisey Yates wrote an intense, emotional, heart tugging, love story with The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge, book fourteen in her Gold Valley series. Midwife Mallory Chance has finally dumped her cheating user of a boyfriend of 15 years and decides to start over in Sunset Ridge and be closer to her brother, who lives in Gold Valley, the next town over. She needs a break to find herself and hopes a little fun will help her along. She is also hoping to run into the hot cowboy, one she shared a visual connection with six months prior. When she runs into the hot, sexy, brooding Colt Daniels, the guy from before, she allows herself just that one night with him, then she needs to work on herself and devote her time to her new midwife practice. Colt can't believe she's here, without her boyfriend. She's been on his mind for months now, so as long as she's up for one night, he'll give her that, but he can’t do a relationship. Imagine their surprise when Mallory discovers her one-night fling turns out to be her landlord.

Colt and Mallory's lives continually seem to connect between family outings, or just being out and about in their small town. While all else is going crazy, Colt becomes responsible for the care of a baby girl, the product of his deceased mentee and his girlfriend. Mallory agrees to help Colt, with baby Lily, forcing the two to spend more time together; getting to know each other. The sizzling chemistry between these two is off-the-charts making it surprising they didn’t burn down Colt’s home. Colt and Mallory need time to discover who they are and who they want to be. There’s so much more to Colt than he allows others to see. Between his music and wood carvings, he has a true artistic soul. , Despite her picture-perfect upbringing, Mallory has always struggled figuring out who she was, how she fit in her family and among her friends, as well as honestly examining her previous choices. Both Mallory and Chase have deeply rooted issues of pain, loss, guilt, inadequacy, and secrets they've kept to themselves for years. Fortunately for readers, these characters were able to express their inner thoughts, their past trauma, losses and fears by opening up to each other; sharing their pain and fears.

Ms. Yates wrote a wonderful, intense, emotional and steamy story that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with soul-searching, angst, characters whose personal stories will tug at your heartstrings, sizzling chemistry, and an amazing cast of secondary characters as Mallory and Colt, and baby Lily, find that happily ever after. I highly recommend The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge to other readers.

The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge was a good book. I'm not too comfortable with such coarse language in a novel (but these ARE cowboys, right?). The book opened with a bang, and then we got to really meet Colt (bull rider and one of the Daniel brothers) and Mallory (a new-to-town midwife).
So as not to give any spoilers, let me just say it was a good story, and the characters were well developed, each with their own backstory.
I tend to get perturbed at a character every once in a while, and this time, it was Mallory. Granted, she's had plenty of heartaches, but just when everything starts to fall into place, she bugged out. I could've kicked her for that. I was more worried about her being on the rebound. She redeemed herself with her stealth midwife skills. My favorite moment with Colt was when he was sitting in a rocker in his house. (see? no spoilers) Hopefully, she and Colt will live a very long and happy life in between some more pages for us to read.

I 'read' this book via Audible which really has its advantages, like being able to hide my earbud while doing most anything else. The problem is when I'm in a store, at a restaurant, in a line at the post office, etc. and something BIG or unexpected happens. For instance, again, Colt answers his door to a surprise visitor who leaves him a surprise. Couldn't help it, I said, very out loud, " I KNEW IT!" I hadn't read the synopsis, and I like total surprises like that. Little moments (when the book is first starting out) the chance encounters became quite hilarious, and I could see it like a movie.

This series could easily be another 'Virgin River' type show on TV. Sort of like a sweet romance with a little Beth Dutton from Yellowstone mixed in. You may not like all the characters, but you can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

This is my second Cowboy romance written by Maisey Yates, both books were on a reader challenge from the BNBG (Brenda Novak Book Group.) I also had the pleasure of watching Yates and Novak in an online reader group session. Yates is PLENTY talented and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Somebody at some point sent me a box of books, many of which were mass-market paperbacks of various romance novels. Of course, I was thrilled. I will literally read anything, but romance has always been a particular favorite of mine. One of those books was by Maisey Yates, but it was part of a series. While they are billed as readable as standalones, I still refuse to start a series on book #8. So, thankful for public libraries, I was able to start at the beginning of the Gold Valley series. It will not go down as one of my favorite series, but it’s readable and pretty simple to get through.
This one follows the story of Mallory and Colt. Mallory has recently ended a toxic relationship and Colt is a professed woman-eater. Mallory is a wee-bit wet behind the ears when it comes to physical intimacy with men, and Colt wastes no time helping her learn the ropes. In the grand tradition of Yates, everything about their relationship happens with lightning-fast speed, leaving the reader feel like there was a lot of development between the two that needed to have happened. However, as readers, we have to be realistic about what we expect from a romance, and it’s never going to be in-depth character development. We want to get to the happily-ever-after as quickly as possible, and Maisey Yates is the queen of hard and fast love stories.
While it’s unlikely I’ll seek out any of the additional series by Yates, I will probably read any additional titles from the Gold Valley series. I am curious about these characters that I have come to enjoy and would like to see where they go. She’s not the greatest romance author out there, but she is pretty good at her craft.

**3.5 Stars**

I usually love or hate Maisey Yates books, so I am surprised this one fell somewhere in the middle for me. Ultimately, I enjoyed the story – Mallory and Colt have a one-night stand, and then fate keeps throwing them in each other’s orbit… oh, and then a baby enters the mix (not a surprise or secret pregnancy!)

This book was pretty darn hot! The characters start off with a literal *bang* and it was super fun. I enjoyed that they both were on the same page with their “one night only” arrangement but fate had other plans. There were so many forced proximity moments that made the book extra fun. I thought the addition of a baby would make things weird for the plot, but Yates pulled it off well.

Both Mallory and Colt had a lot of trauma, and it was worked through well on Colt’s side. Sometimes, he was a real jerk, but Mallory was tenacious and strong where she needed to be. I actually teared up at some points!

What ultimately wasn’t working for me were Mallory’s clingy tendencies. They rubbed me the wrong way enough that even when she left for, like, a page to be independent, it just seemed petulant. I also thought the book was way too long. Yates has a tendency to make her characters extremely introspective, which means pages, and pages of their repetitive thoughts and feelings. I think that’s why I usually prefer her shorter Harlequin Desires.

Overall, this was a solid Yates read! There are way too many characters in Gold Valley at this point, though. It’s time to start fresh!

The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge by Maisey Yates is the fourteenth book in the Gold Valley series. The novel focuses on Colt Daniels and Mallery Chance. The novel while introducing us to new characters continues to allow us visits with the characters in the first novels about Gold Valley.

Colt Daniels was a bull rider, hardened by the dangerous life and the fast ways he lived. Until he ran into Mallery Chance. Colt did not believe in relationships and didn’t believe he was capable of maintaining one even if he wanted. He left bull riding to start a different life. He has moved back to Gold Valley and is beginning to figure out what is coming next in his life.

Mallery Chance has decided she needs to start anew. She is a midwife and buys into a clinic nearer her brother in Gold Valley. She is hoping this will be the new start she needs and wants. Her first night she picks up Colt in a bar for anonymous sex - only to find out he is her landlord and he is the one for her. But there is a lot of story to be lived until they figured that our. A baby being dropped off being the key element.

The True Cowboy of Sunset Ridge by Maisey Yates is a great addition to the novels about Gold Valley. I really enjoyed Mallery and her determination to start again. I found the Colt to be a doggedly good man despite his beliefs he was not. Her First Christmas Cowboy by Maisey Yates is a good read.

This final book in the Daniels family subset of Maisey Yates' Gold Valley series just may be my favorite of the entire series. I fell hard for Colt and Mallory, with them every step of the way from that first life-altering gaze across a crowded bar, to their set-the-sheets-on-fire hookup six months later, and through their heart-tugging journey to a hard-earned happily ever after. I've read their story twice. I have no doubt I'll probably revisit it again.

Yates' complex characters are the heart of her stories and one of the facets I most enjoy about her writing. In this book, she digs deep into the souls of both Mallory and Colt, characters with flaws, layers, and a multitude of emotional baggage. I love the evolution they both undergo; the growth they achieve by facing their emotional demons, learning from them, letting go of them, and finally, whole-heartedly, moving forward. I enjoyed the connections with the members of the Daniels and Chance families, the threads that weave within and around Mallory and Colt's story, and the relationships that shift, expand, and heal. And then there's Lily, the sweet baby who shows up unexpectedly and opens their hearts to unconditional love and possibilities. So many feels. When I reached the final page all I wanted to do was go back to the beginning and read it again, tears and all. So I did. This one's a keeper.

Mallory ended a fifteen year relationship with her cheating ex. She also felt that she was a disappoint her parents. Deciding she needed a fresh start Mallory made her way to Gold Valley. Her calling in life is to be a great midwife. In the downtown area she rented a house to be her office. In the previous six months she and her ex went to the local bar while in Gold Valley. Across the bar her eyes connected with the eyes of Colt Daniels. Those eyes haunted her.

Colt Daniels is a former bull rider. He has never recovered from the deaths of both his mother and father in a plane crash. On top of that he ended up being a mentor to Trent as a bull rider and he became Colt's best friend. Then Trent died in the ring after falling off a bull and wasn't able to get himself out of the way. His death left Colt down a deep barrel and couldn't find a way to pull himself out of it.

Mallory unknowingly rented a house on Colt's ranch to be her new home. She rented the house and her office through a realtor. Little did she know that Colt was the owner of her house and office. Can two broken people meet and help each other become whole again? Are they going to hurt each other too? The sex between them is off the charts. Unfortunately Mallory cannot get over the feeling that she isn't enough. There were more than a few tears shed and also many smiles. I loved every minute of this book and look forward to Maisey Yate's next book.
