What I Needed: An Introductory Novelette

Rate this book
Bobbi Jay Mitchell likes to keep things basic. She’s a diner waitress in a small town living an uneventful but content life. Everything is roses until the man who has her by the heart decides they need to cut ties. As if a shattered love wasn’t enough to shift her world view, her uncle, whom she relies on for support, is marrying a woman who adamantly wants Bobbi gone from their home. It would seem every string of her happiness had been picked and pulled until unraveling completely. However, if she can put her fear aside and uncover her eyes, she may find love isn’t lost after all. Julian Johnson is an entrepreneurial graphic designer. He’s a single father with much on his plate. Still, he tries to make things right with his best friend, particularly when she’s panicked, convinced her life is falling apart. Since keeping it together is what he does, Julian offers up the shoulder his friend so desperately needs, but when the fog of tears clears, and his own heartstrings begin to tug, he finds himself longing to offer a different method of comfort. Is Bobbi ready to receive the love being offered? Will Julian brave the walls his friend has built in order to win her heart? Or will old hurts demand the lovers settle with friendship?

Good launch for new author

This was a good read. It contained the components I love in a story: engaging storyline, character development, a believable and authentic heroine/hero. What was awesome was that this author was able to pack it inside this novelette and nothing was lacking nor missing. I wanted to get at Julian for how he handled Bella Jay. I am grateful Bella Jay held her own and you can feel her strength and resolve. I will be looking to read more from this author. Good intro!

Cute quick read! I loved the relationship between Bobbi Jay, Jason and Julian growing up. I wanted to lay hands on Julian, for the way he played with Jay's heart and feelings! But glad he redeemed himself. Those boys were just so adorable! The ending left the door open for more, and I hope you provide that for us. Good job! 👍👍👍

I liked the story, but a few times, it was confusing who was speaking. Bobbi Jay forgave her betrayed much faster than he deserved. He wasn't a real friend. Julian Johnson wasn't it for me. But that's how the cookie crumbled. Oh well...

Awww, I love a good second chance love story💞!!!

Yaaasss Queen Erika👐🏿!!! So I'm all backwards with my reading cause I read her 2nd book first, lol. I was big thirsty, but anywho. Had she not mentioned it, I would've never known. I swear I think Erika know some of my peeps cause Bobbi Jay's story is my life, right now🤦🏽, lbvvs.
Bay-be I wanted to f Julian up, that was straight up f'boy behavior. He had me so motherfudgesicklestix hot with how he did her😡! 4 years my ninja, 4 years of blocking her, pretending she didn't exist and then you wanna play mad cause you f'ed up my ninja, tuh😒. Like she want no random, that was your best friend and you turned your back during the worst of times😒.
Bobbi Jay ain't let that effect her and moms like her don't get credit for still making sue the child know who the father is. Not allowing the hurt to keep your child from that happiness, even if it's just through pictures. Damn, I felt her pain😢.
In the end Julian got a chance to right his wrong and was man enough to admit he f'ed up and worked everyday to make it up to her and their son. Beautiful story, great work beautiful💞

What I Needed is a short friends to lovers story featuring two friends that grew up together but one night changes their friendship. I loved how fast paced this book was and in a short amount of pages the author was able to have a complete story. We legit had a beginning, middle, and ending.. and nothing seemed forced. Julian wasn’t my favorite character, mainly because of the way that he treated Bobbi Jay in her time of need. But, Julian did not hold Bobbi Jay back, sis held her own and have a village behind her to help when she needed it. The ending was sweet. Very good introductory book and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Young crush

What some of us deems a crush, its actually love brewing inside. Being young, we sometimes give into temptation rather its wrong or right. We suffer from those temptations when things go awry.

What we think we needed at the time can alter your entire life. But, with the grace if God, all can be forgiven and what you needed, could've been waiting for you all the time.

Great ending to a not so great beginning.

Something is missing

For some reason, I didn’t connect with this book. The storyline is my favorite, friends to lovers. However, there wasn’t any depth to the book. Everything appeared to be just surface level. For example, he took her virginity but we did not get one detail of the event. It was just stated and moved on. No description of their feelings for such a big moment. Just nothing... we were left hanging.

Good Book

This book was pretty good. I hated how Julian treated Bobbi No after she told him she was pregnant. I really like how she never talked bad to her son about his father. Julian realized his mistake and Bobbi No forgave him. I hope their is going to be more about them. I need to know if she said yes.

Great intro

This was a nice introduction to this author and I’m excited for more. I will say that I think Julian got off way too easy and he’s not my favorite person but he tried. Bobbi Jay held her own without him, and I loved that about her. I hope to hear more about them in the future.

Loved it!

I can’t wait for what’s next! I initially was angry with Julian but he made up for it. 😏 Bobbi Jay was a strong woman and I loved that about her. But I also loved that she knew when to be weak. ❤️ Great job!

It is a sweet short story I love Bobby-Jay and Julius closest. I was surprised of what he did to her but it work out at the end. I wish it was longer because I wanted more on Jason and Mia.

Though it was a quick read, it gave me everything I needed to fall in love with the characters

I enjoyed this short and sweet story. Bobbi Jay and Julian were clearly meant to be. I just wonder why she didn't tell her uncle how his fiance was acting. That's just weird to me that instead of finding your own place, you push someone out of their home that belongs to them. I loved the bond between everyone though. I'm excited to see what other stories comes from this one.

Cute

Cute story but I think Julian got off too easy. After doing what he did all he had to do was buy her a few gifts. I feel like his disrespect warranted more than that 🤷🏽‍♀️

HEA!!!

Bobbi Jay and Julian were raised together and became best friends. After a death in the family, Julian returns home and shares a night with Bobbi Jay. Returning home Julian hadn't spoken to her in awhile and when he finally did, she gave him a surprise and told her to not call anymore. Returning home four years later to move Julian and Bobbi Jay were back in each other's lives. When Julian realized he had another child, he was upset. Seeing that Bobbi Jay wanted nothing to do with him, Julian vowed to get her back. Julian and Bobbi Jay were great together and their little boys were just as cute. I loved the family dynamics and glad they worked it out. This was a great quick read and a great introduction to this author for me. I will definitely be checking out her catalog!!

This story had so much potential and left me wanting more. I'm happy Julian and Bobbi Jay reconnected but again there was a lot that was either glossed over or unresolved. The story also moved forward fast.

This was my first time reading this author. I'm looking forward to her other works and progression.

Rating 3.5⭐️ These books will really have you side eyeing your own forgiveness levels like, yeah… no… jail immediately 🤣🤣 The restraint Bobbi Jay showed deserves its own award ceremony. Four. Years. FOUR. Texting into the void like maybe today he’ll read it. Meanwhile the last thing that man said was abort the baby because you were a mistake. That’s not miscommunication that’s emotional arson. I had to pause and blink because forgiveness like that doesn’t live in my body.

What made this hit though is how quietly broken Bobbi was. Life kept taking from her in small, relentless ways. Lost love, unstable home, feeling unwanted everywhere she turned. She wasn’t dramatic about it she was tired. That kind of tired makes people cling to crumbs because crumbs feel better than nothing.

Julian save those tears. That man grew up with Bobbi and turned around and treated her like she was scum. He most definitely was a F 🥷🏾 forget that good man who did F 🥷🏾 actions. He might see a future but reading this still had me whispering baby… stand up while turning the page 😭

Best friend love....

First and foremost Ms. Erika, you did absolutely marvelous for your first book. This was 'GOOOD' and I enjoyed it. Bobbi Jay and Julian went through a lot in their young life over mountains and down through valleys but they established the best relationship. I was here for it. I always love the personalities kids have in books, they be popping because kids are so blunt.

Ladies and gentlemen this is the first of I am pretty sure many, take the time now to download, relax and read. You will not be upset. This was a great introductory read to your blooming writing career.

Nice short read

I was very upset when Bobbi Jay decided to let her guard down. Reading further help me get a different perspective of Julian I had in my mind he was a real Fuck Boy but in reality he just did some fucked up shit. A lesson learned in analyzing situations.
