J.D. Carpenter's first Campbell Young novel, The Devil in Me, was nominated for an Arthur Ellis Award and appeared on the Globe & Mail's bestseller list. The second, Bright's Kill, was published in 2005 to critical acclaim. Carpenter currently lives in Prince Edward County, Ontario.
Although it took a few chapters for me to get interested and involved with this book, turns out I really enjoyed it. It's a cold case murder mystery of sorts, but really, it's a story about people. The author has created such compelling characters I found myself by the third chapter unwilling to put the book down. People in this book are flawed, but not to the point you don't care about them....they're just like you and me and our friends and neighbours.
