There's a reason she worked for the dead--she didn't play well with the living.

Touched by tragedy at a young age, Catherine Adams always knew her calling was to stand for the dead. Now, as a homicide detective for the LVPD, she fulfilled that role by finding them justice.

Dispatched to the Antanasia Hotel, Cat was prepared for her next case.

What she wasn’t prepared for was its reclusive owner, Rafe Alexander.

Or his unwavering pursuit of her.

Though dedicated to the badge, the feelings Rafe awakened in her and the undeniable attraction between them had Cat thinking there might be room in her life for more than just the job.

But then unanswered questions in both the case and her personal life start piling up, and her murder investigation took twists and turns she never saw coming, forcing Cat to question whether the world was as black and white as she’d always believed.

And making her wonder if she was ready to learn the answers she was so dead set on finding.

Or would some truths be more than the detective in her could live with?

Antanasia, by Sarah Curtis, is everything I love in a romance. That insta-spark/lust/love connection that happens when eyes meet for the first time, when hands touch for the first time, is my favorite kind of romance.

Detective Catherine (Cat) Adams always knew she wanted to be a homicide detective. After suffering loss at a young age, she knew she wanted to devote her life to making sure the bad guy always paid for his crimes. She is thirty two years old and has been with the Las Vegas Police Department for ten years. On the night she was called to the Antanasia Hotel to investigate a murder, not only does she get a perplexing case, she also comes face to face with the hotel owner, a man who instantly both puts her on edge, and awakens things in her that hadn’t been awakened for a very long time.

“For the first time, in a very long time, she was interested in a man. And that was equal parts scary and exciting.”

crime scene body outline - Google Search

Rafe Alexander is the owner of Antanasia. He is a suave, sexy, alpha man who is never fazed by anything, until Cat walked into his office. He knew he would do whatever it took to make this woman his. But he also knew that he was going to have to be careful with her so he wouldn’t scare her off.

“There was a reason she worked for the dead – she didn’t play well with the living.”

Las Vegas

Other than reading the blurb, I went into this book blind. I love every one of Sarah’s books that I’ve had the chance to read so that was enough reason for me to trust that I would love this as well. And, I did! The connection between Rafe and Cat was amazing. Cat might have been skittish at first but Rafe’s resolve to win her was everything. At the same time, Cat is trying to work through a tough case.

So, if you want an alpha hero that will make you swoon, and sweep the heroine off her feet, along with a puzzle that you, along with the heroine and her team, are trying to figure out, then this book is for you. You will swoon, sigh, smile, and perhaps gasp. And hopefully will love every minute of it.

Holy heck!! Sarah Curtis just took me on a journey I never saw coming!!! This book totally blew me away! Who knew Ms. Curtis had this story lurking within? I’m so glad she decided to let it out!

’There was a reason she worked for the dead, she wasn’t that great with the living.’

As a Las Vegas homicide detective, Cat is called in to investigate a murder at the Antanasia Hotel & Casino. Within the course of her investigation she meets Rafe, a man that she reacts to in a way that she is unfamiliar with. All she wants is space between them, but that proves impossible as she needs his help to dig deeper into the murder.

description

Wow! Just wow! Cat was freaking awesome! She’s fierce, independent and tough. But along the way we begin to see her evolve from the girl her past has formed into a woman who can identify with both sides of herself - soft and tough. It was absolutely beautiful being privy to her inner thoughts as she slowly accepted herself even as she accepted Rafe.

Talk about alpha, protective, jealous and possessive! Rafe’s picture should be in the dictionary next to each of these adjectives! He growled at just the thought of another man with Cat, even her co-workers. He knew he wanted her and he was determined to have her. However, he recognized that she was fiercely independent and he never wanted to hinder that part of her personality. He was amazing at providing for her in a way that she accepted without stepping on her self-reliant toes.

’”And what do you feel?” Her question was whisper soft, almost as if she were afraid to ask.

“Need. Longing. Hunger. A gnawing in the pit of my stomach that grows stronger with each of our encounters.”

He watched her eyes grow larger with each word he uttered but he was too old to mince words. And suddenly, he was beyond caring if he frightened her away. Because it was too late for her, he’d never let her escape.’

description

Together, this couple were electric! They have a bit of a slow burn, but there are plenty of moments in between that more than solidified that Cat and Rafe sizzled when together. And when they did finally reach that point it was scorching!

This has a fast pace that engaged me from the first page and kept me turning the pages until I reached the end. There are some great secondary characters that had me smiling as they needled Cat and additional characters that added to the drama.

Overall, this was an amazing story that had some twists and turns I never saw coming, and a hero and heroine that totally stole my heart!

So this book was different from others by this author and I LOVED IT!! Rafe is definitely one of my favorite heroes by Sarah Curtis and that’s saying something. He’s intense and possessive of Cat. He’s sexy as hell and loves her in a way any girl would hope for.

And suddenly, he was beyond caring if he frightened her away. Because it was too late for her, he’d never let her escape.”

It’s not often that I love an h as much as the H but in this book I did. It took a little longer to warm up to her but once I did, I adored her too. She’s strong and loyal and learns to love Rafe the way he deserves.

There’s not a bunch of side characters but the ones we do meet add to the story beautifully. I love Cat’s partners Dan and Ryan. I’m hoping in the next book we learn more about the people in Rafe’s life.

I don’t know how many books will be in this series but I’m hoping it’s a bunch. I can’t wait to visit this world again.

”The only thing that calmed the raging need that coiled like a serpent deep inside of him was the knowledge he’d be seeing her again.
Soon.”

The elephant in the room...

When I read the words *the elephant in the room*, I realised that is exactly my thoughts while reading Antanasia. While this story captured and held my attention, real-life was crowding my thoughts. The main character is a police officer, who bends the rules because of 'circumstances'. At this particular time, I find it a little hard to accept... tolerate... ignore a law enforcement officer, taking decisions into their own hands.

As I said, the story did capture my attention and I really enjoyed the romance that developed between Cat and Rafe. It was amusing to see them fight their instincts and deny themselves what they really wanted. Both Cat and Rafe are stubborn, confident, and extremely bossy, so it was interesting to see who would win each battle. Trust became the most important thing that needed to be established and once the trust developed, their relationship grew.

In true Sarah Curtis style, we have an instant attraction that turned very quickly into love. While I do scoff a little, I can't help but think, it would be nice to believe it could happen and turn into a happy ever after. This author again brought her a*A* game... that is A for Alpha... game, to the party. Rafe is sexy, capable, and bossy, just the way I like my heroes. What did surprise me was that it was a slow burn, so slow that I thought for about 2.5 seconds that it was going to be clean. (THE HORROR!) 😱

So while I read some of this story with a heavy heart, there were parts that I thoroughly enjoyed. There was a bit of a surprise in this one, and if you go searching for a spoiler, I'm sure you can work it out. Sarah Curtis fans will love this one, and if you're new to this author, and a fan of instalove romance, I would recommend giving it a try.

I’m such a sucker for a strong, silent, and broody man, and his name is Rafe. How perfect of a name is that for this type of hero?? The way Rafe pursued Cat reminded me of a black panther stalking it’s prey. It made for an exciting pursuit.

Cat is tough as nails and isn’t exactly cooperative when it comes to that undeniable connection she feels for Rafe. She’s a cop and is used to always being in control. The best part of that, was this is why we got to see Rafe in panther mode.

This is a romantic suspense, and the suspense began right from the start. That meant the book just grabs your attention from the start and keeps you on your toes. I’m usually trying to find all the clues and guess what’s about to happen, but that twist flat out caught me off guard. I love it when an author can throw me off like that.

I really enjoyed this! I loved that instant connection while still getting a slow burn romance. The ending was satisfying while still leaving me with wanting more. Most of all, I really loved Rafe!

Spoilers ahead, 3* with a bump

I must admit I almost DNF this book, it had some similarities to the mcs of the In Death series like

mcs meeting during the murder investigation of an escort known to the mmc
A fmc who is a police officer in a leadership role who lives on coffee and doesn't fuss with her appearance
A mmc who's a real estate mogul
A mmc who's obsessed with feeding his lady who basically lives off of coffee and candy
A sexy, rich and debonair mmc with the hair tied back too
A fmc who's not good with kids because of her past

The general feel of this took me back to Eve and Roarke which isn't a bad thing just wasn't what I wanted. That coupled with the very slow burn had me antsy......but then boom.....plot twist!!!!! And things became a lot more interesting.
This was the first in a series that I'll be following up on, not bad

***nope I'm not mentioning the plot twist 😂

No cheating
Both experienced though no real details
No OW/OM drama

I really hate heroines like this one. Insecure little women who become catty to OW that flirt with the handsome hot asf hero. Really woman? How pathetic can you be when you’re even having sex dreams about a man that you have literally have seen twice or thrice.
I have no patience for stupid insecure jealous women. She met the dude once and she was asking and insinuating that he must have been sleeping with his PA, one because the woman was beautiful and she was dressed nice and second because they were working late.

The poor thing is jealous of every woman that sets eyes on hero, like hero’s PA and heroine’s colleague. I really don’t want to continue to see how many more women the heroine gets jealous of. The man is not hers to fight over. She has no right to be a bitch to OWs just because they looked at him.

And let me say something I am a bitch but I would never fight over a man much less a man that I literally just met. Also don’t be a bitch just because women dresses sophisticated and wears make up. That’s on her (heroine) if she want to look simple. Don’t be a twat. It also doesn’t mean that someone wants to sleep with their boss just because she looks nice and is beautiful or stays late working with him. It’s possible that the hero’s PA might want him because that’s predictable. Authors can’t write OWs without wanting the most desirable man there is in books.

And also apparently to authors, a woman with a career can’t have sex. Celibate heroine for long time because she has no time for sex or dates. But the hero shows up and suddenly she does?

The truth was more frightening. She’d come hoping to run into Rafe.  And that scared the shit out of her.  She wasn’t that woman—the kind to moon over a man—and especially not when she was in the middle of a murder investigation.  But she couldn’t seem to get him out of her head.  Hell, she was even dreaming about the bastard.

If spoilers do get revealed for this book, folks, it won’t be from me. Uh..uh...Nope, mum’s the word. That’s what I’m shooting for here, anyway. All I’ll say is there is a “huge” twist near the end that was quite a surprise. In fact, it switches from a murder mystery backdrop, which is mentioned in the synopsis, to include a “------” element. See, I kept my promise. (wink)

I can and will openly admit this author knows how to write an engaging, comes to life on the pages, very graphic, smexy, romantic read with a main couple that banters back and forth until they ultimately work out their differences. In this case, there is quite a doozy of a one. A world's collide kind of situation. Usually a book of this type is openly marketed to a specific fan base. However, due to the element of surprise, it is kept on the absolute silent, low down here. I am a tad worried there will be a few mixed reactions to the different vibe/direction this book takes. Mainly just because it was very unexpected. Original is what I consider it though. Meaning, it was cool with me, because I do wade in those literary waters from time to time.

From the sizzling, at first glance, attraction/chemistry, these two destined to be together soulmates can’t help but gravitate towards one another. They soon can’t get each other out of their minds and hearts. One of them in particular won’t be swayed from this life changing, love connection.

Rafe Alexander was one smooth, tall, dark, handsome, cool drink of water. Hhmm … Hhmm … Hhmm. He was like a brooding, possessive alpha tiger and a cuddly teddy bear all rolled into one. Cat (aka Catherine), the heroine, didn’t stand a chance against such hotness and charm. Good thing she is sassy, feisty, and confident enough to handle all of him.

I wish I could linger here and go into more detail, but that jeopardizes the promise I just made. Just know I am really looking forward to reading the next sequel in this “to be continued” series.

Title: Antanasia, Author: Sarah Curtis, Pages: 289, Pub. date: 5/1/20, stand-alone, to be continued, HFN ending, tall, dark, handsome, mysterious, brooding hero, determined/dedicated detective heroine, instant attraction, romance safe, no love triangle, no OM/OW drama, no cheating, very graphic steamy scenes and huge twist/reveal late in book. Rating: 4.5 stars

Can I just say how much I LOVED this book?!? So freaking fantastic!!! I couldn’t put it down and read throughout the night. In fact, I want book 2 already. Sarah, please tell me you’re already working on the second story. 🙏🏻 I want to pre-order it now. 😁

I went into this blind and dove straight in because I love the way that Sarah Curtis tells a story. So I knew I was in for an entertaining, page turner.

I was right.

And now that I’ve finished the book, I actually recommend, if you’re feeling a little daring and cheeky, just jumping in and reading full on without checking the blurb/description. Because I had waaaaaay more fun discovering things along with Cat as she tried to figure out what was going on. So if you go in blind, I think you’ll find your reading experience to be a really enjoyable one.

As for Rafe, talk about a hot alpha-tastic hero! He is yummy, intense, and knows how to speak another language. How sexy is that?!? 🔥🔥🔥

And just like that, I’ve got another book boyfriend to add to my list. 😍

Lastly, let me say this: lately, because of the covid19 pandemic, I’ve been having a really hard time focusing on reading. I find myself not really into a book or just managing to stay interested to read 2-3 chapters, 4 or 5 on a “good” night. It’s not that the books are poorly written or not to my taste, it’s just.... I don’t know.... Sigh. What’s happening in the world right now is just heavy and hard and stressful. But this book? I tore through it in one night! I lost myself in the pages of Cat and Rafe’s world and that’s a good thing! Reading about them made me so happy. And today, my heart feels lighter. 🥰

I’m pleased as punch to say that I’ve got a new book to add to my favorite re-reads shelf. ❤️

ANTANASIA by Sarah Curtis is a steamy, page-turner, must-read romantic suspense novel with an unexpected twist! With each book, Ms. Curtis grows as an author and continues to completely blow me away with her talent.

When I found out Ms. Curtis had a new book releasing, I was giddy with excitement. I NEEDED Sarah Curtis's new book in my life, asap! Aside from reading the one/two-line teasers, I went into ANTANASIA blind.

And, oh, my goodness . . . WOW!

A strong, determined, and independent, yet with an underlying softness heroine.
A tall, dark, handsome, mysterious, and overprotective alpha male, who is all about taking care of his woman—we all need Rafe in our lives.
A romance that is beautiful, healing, and everlasting.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Rafe and Cat's story. This book was amazing, the perfect escape, and is one of my favorite books of 2020.

I LOVED this story. First, Sarah Curtis gives you a few tidbits to make you wonder, then you think “okay, yeah, I’m pretty sure I know where this is going,” and THEN you’re slapped upside the head with the doozy of a twist you’re not completely expecting!

Cat deals in finding justice for the dead, and her latest case puts her on a collision course with Rafe. He’s rich (obviously, since he owns the hotel), he’s handsome, he runs hot and cold with the affection and apparent attraction, and he’s got Cat just as confused as her case. And when every turn reveals Rafe waiting for who knows what from her, Cat isn’t sure that she even wants to solve the mysteries on her plate. Of course, she’s also not sure that she can deny the chemistry that she has with Rafe...or at least the chemistry she feels at work, because again, he’s a conundrum. When it all comes together and everything falls perfectly into place, the only thing left to want is MORE. That’s right. I’m selfish and greedy and want more. But I guess I have to wait to see what comes next in this new series. I’ll try to do so patiently.

2.5 stars for the writing.

Once i figured out that its vampire book ( page 60 something) it was really predictable.

the major problems were
- the vague blurb, give a person a heads up that they might unknowingly be reading a vampire book, which they had managed to avoid for a decade now (yep! my forever lasted only a decade)
- Rafe's POV was literally non existent! we have an age old, powerful vampire at hand, one wld think he wld get atleast half the book in POV. but its handful at best!
- cliched use of cop dialect. oh god! did they get on my nerves or what!

Originally this book was a dnf for me, i had tried twice to get into it but just cldnt. then someone commented that it had Knox vibes of the Dark in You series by Suzzanne wright. So i gave it a third try ( which is a first for me)
People recommending books really need to figure out the character's arc!
Rafe and Knox WHERE NOT SIMILAR! no where even close!
Heck the only thing they had in common was the hotel in LV and a cliffhanger mystery!
that do not make a similar vibe people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book has everything you have come to love from this author; a strong, smart, and beautiful female lead (Cat), a sexy, handsome, alpha male (Rafe Alexander), intense attraction, romance, and a few surprises.

Cat had to grow up quickly at 13 when her father and sister were killed and her mother turned to alcohol to cope. She became a homicide cop to get the justice for others that she never could for her family.

Rafe Alexander owns the hotel that is the scene of a murder. Cat is the lead investigator and he is very intrigued with the beautiful detective. There is an intense attraction and even a "buzz" when they touch. Cat tries to fight it. She's not used to someone being concerned with her well-being for a change and Rafe is not giving up on winning her over.

Cat has a feeling that something is not quite as it seems. Her instincts are right.

I made the conscious decision to bypass reading the blurb and dive in....something I’ve never done before. But I trust Sarah Curtis to always entertain so I figured, why not? Well....Holy Moses!! There will be absolutely no spoilers here except to say.... Expect the unexpected! That’s what this amazing piece of writing brings...the unexpected. Well and Rafe is smoking 🔥. Now I need for Sarah to hurry the hell up and write the next book!

Another fantastic read by Sarah Curtis! One of the things I love so much about this author’s books is the instant connection between the characters. The attraction between Rafe the hotel mogul and Cat the homicide detective is intense from the very first sight. However, these two could not be any more different and there is a mystery surrounding them that causes some reluctance for Cat. But there is something about Rafe that pulls Cat towards him. As for Rafe, he knew from the very beginning who Cat was to him and he was determined to make her his. Even though Cat is strong and independent, I absolutely adored the way Rafe always wanted to take care of her.

Like the blurb mentions, there are definitely twists and turns to their story. I was fascinated with the secrets that were kept and the ultimate decision that needed to be made. Overall a great story and it may look like there is more to come!

It’s been a long time since I’ve given 5 stars to a book but this one deserves it and more!

Sarah Curtis is one of my favorite authors. I always know her books are going to have the best alpha hero’s and kick ass heroines. And they’re always safe!

This is Rafe and Cat’s story. Rafe owns a hotel in Vegas and Cat is the detective in charge of investigating something that happened there. I don’t want to say too much because there is a twist that I didn’t see coming and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. Just go in blind. Cat and Rafe are so good together! The best part is there is a book 2 for them. Sarah, I hope you’re writing that now! I can’t wait to read it.

Slow burn, steamy and great chemistry. I loved how Rafe and Cat met. I don’t want to say much, for fear of giving anything away. The chemistry between Rafe and Cat is off the charts, you can feel it. The story starts off fast and never loses steam. Mild angst. Lots of action and suspense. HEA.

I went into this book blind and I really didn’t know what to expect . I thought the name Antanasia was the heroine’s name . I was pleasantly surprised ! I didn’t know if I was reading a mystery , a romance , or something else . It really has something for everyone . I don’t want to give anything away so I’m being vague on purpose . Cat was a kickass heroine . I loved her ! Cat has a strong personality and she needed someone strong and dominant. Rafe was that and more . The chemistry between them was off the charts . I couldn’t put this story down until I read every page in one sitting . I want to say so much but I don’t want to spoil it . Read this book ASAP! It’s different than anything that I’ve ever read and that’s saying something because I read a ton . Rafe is going all the way to the top of my book boyfriends list !

This book was absolutely nothing like I expected. Even when you think you know what's gonna happen.
Cat is a detective thats investigating a murder. Which leads her to meet our Hero.
Their first meeting is Chemistry explosion. Their pull towards is unexpected and unexplainable but its oh so powerful.
This story is absolutely Phenomenal. Its captivating and thrilling. The suspense will have you wondering WTF is happening.

Alexander is such and Enigma, watching fall for Cat is just as beautiful as was this love story.
Their love story filled with twists and turns. They have loyalty and courage for each other....

Grab this book now and be prepared to read it in one sitting.

I loved this one! After you finish reading you will realize you knew nothing about this book. That’s what I love about this author. I just know I will love anything she writes. If you haven’t read any spoilers, this story takes a turn you don’t expect. It was a nice surprise though and I loved that she took it that direction. --- THE HERO IS OTT POSSESSIVE ALPHA MALE AND VERY PROTECTIVE OF HER. I love that even when it comes with food because the heroine many times forgets to eat, he always managed to push her to eat something even when the heroine is being very stubborn with it.

--- HOT SMUT SCENES

--- NO SEPARATION

--- NO CHEATING

--- QUICK SAFE HOT SWEET LOVE STORY

--- HAPPY ENDING... they got married. And for sure will be together forever...

🌐🌐🌐➡️↘️⬇️➡️This is my own personal thoughts and opinion about the book so if thats not sit right with you or you feel I’m not being fair blablabla, please know that everybody in this world have their own different things that they like and don’t like. It may not be the same thing with you but thats okay because i am my own person and you cannot control me or tell me what to do. For example; i put ketchup (tomato sauce) on my fried chicken. You think that’s disgusting? For me its not and i’ve been eating it like that for many many years. You tell me to put another sauce and see if i like that better? I already did many many times in years but i still like the way i like it. It’s called differences between me and you and billions people in this world😊 be open minded😙 I respect people’s opinions about my opinions but in the end of the day if i say I don’t like it or i do like it, its up to me and its on me. And in the end of the day i always liked and show my respect to books and people’s opinions on books whenever that book is good or not good in my opinion 😊 Respect people’s opinions guys😙😙 I don’t want to write this down because its not really my thing to do it. To like address something like this when obviously i know the people who’s been reading my reviews many times and all the time, they are smart enough to understand and respect other people’s opinions no matter what their opinions on book or their point of view 😙😙 am i right? 💕 also there are people even though i already write “this book is different because i have my own taste of book” those people still comment my taste is this and that when HELLO… everybody have their own thoughts on books and what they want to read… why i read it then? I read it and give it a review because i have to read a book to give it a review… why not read the description book to understand before I’m going to read it? Hello just in case you haven’t notice, description books can be tricky because they write this amazing things about a book but turns out the story is so toxic. Maybe for me its toxic but not for you? YES HELLO THATS WHY US HUMAN BEING HAVE OUR DIFFERENCES, WHAT I LIKE IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU WILL LIKE IT AND EITHER WAY TOO. why i still write the review then if i just don’t like a book? Because I CAN and i want to, you cannot tell me what to do and not what to do🤪 if you still wants to be negative and be karens about my review on book after all of what i just write, i will never acknowledge you and simply ignore you because its not that hard🙏 ⬅️↖️↕️⬅️↩️⤴️

Disappointed

Vampire really. I read the blurb, read the comments as this is a new author to me. I thought this was right up my street, murder, mystery and romance with a hot bossy male. Not once was paranormal mentioned. 61% of the book in i couldn't turn the pages fast enough then bang out of nowhere vampire. Sorry but to find this out at this point in the book destroyed it all. I was loving the characters, the story then the feeling of being let down, lied to. Lesson learned every time I try i new author I will have research them first

Even better than expected

Very good story that takes a different path than I expected. I don’t want to spoil because the author did an outstanding job with letting the story unfold. Subtle hints were there. I really mean it, well done author.

No cheating, no ow/om drama, no triggers.

Cat, a homicide detective in Las Vegas, is investigating a murder at the Antanasia which brings her in contact with the intriguing and sexy owner, Rafe Alexander.

The story takes off from there. It is an HEA but it’s clear there will be future stories with the MC’s. I haven’t read JD Robb’s “In Death” series but from what I know this could possibly be a similar series. The author stated the couple will feature in future books.

Cat. Loved her. Women cops are so often portrayed as so tough and bad a$$ and come off as a bit**. I usually avoid stories with female cops/FBI/MIltary/District Attorney (you catch my drift). Cat is great, smart and good at her job but still feminine.

Rafe is sexy and mysterious and so blatant in his desire (more than desire really) but holding back from the physical side while actively pursuing her.

1/2 star off for my minor negs:
They don’t do the deed until 90% (talk about a tease). I don’t need my couples to jump into bed but I usually like a nice bit of story after they get together (I get that the author will probably do some of that in future books).
And without spoiling, once the mystery is out of the bag and how it will affect our couple, I was confused about how it all worked. Again, this will probably be explored in subsequent stories.

Well done.
