DS Lasser #25

Third Eye: Lasser 25

Rate this book
Chasing a possible thief through the perpetual downpour is not the ideal way to end your shift, but the night is made even worse when you are partnered by Steve Black, a colleague that none of the team can stomach. Yet Shaun Rourke's bad night is going to get a whole lot worse as he comes across the derelict house in the middle of open fields. For what he finds in the upstairs bedroom is the stuff of nightmares. An unknown woman has been slaughtered and suddenly the team are hunting a vicious killer, yet this is only the start of the horror as they discover that someone else had once been murdered in the house, in the same bedroom, fifty years earlier and the murderer was never caught. But how can that be, how can the killer copy a murder that happened so long ago? Within hours of finding the body a schoolgirl is snatched from the side of the road. As the rain continues to hammer down, Lasser desperately tries to unravel the past and the present before others die at the hands of a maniac intent on following his own links of death and destruction.

Rob Roughley lives in the North West of England (God's coal bunker, the land of the wedding cake made by placing three meat pies on top of one another and whippets on lengths of string)
He is the author of eight crime/thriller novels featuring DS Lasser. The novels are set between the run down streets of a northern town and the beautiful yet desolate west Pennine moors.
If you love your crime fiction crammed with square jawed heroes driving flash cars and glorious women who shimmer with inner light, then the DS Lasser novels are not for you.
However, if you prefer your characters to be flawed, with a sprinkling of dandruff and old acne scars, the plots to be laced with dark humour, then give them a try.

Robin Roughley does it again -gripping!

The master of emotions releases another cracking rollercoaster read that leaves very little time to take a breath, it test your resolve as the story manipulates your emotions from tears to anger and back again!
I shed many tears for DCI Alan Bannister in this book, the author's writing digs deeply into the feelings of desolation, loss, hurt and guilt as it pulls at the heartstrings of the reader. As usual Alan's quick temper is his usual way out, but Lasser can read him like a book, immersing him in work can help - can't it?

Then there's the mere mention of PC Black had my fists turn white, the anger this sly, lazy, spiteful member of the team evokes is quite simply astonishing. He's out to cause trouble for the team to cover his own ineptitude and his hatred for Lasser and the team just means his manipulation of the truth is escalating, he's a dangerous person to have watching your back!

This is a difficult case started by an abduction and murder, which leads to questions about police honesty from years past, a tangled story of lies, cover-ups murders and more. It's also about deep friendships, honesty and determination to right the wrongs of others. Gripping is an understatement the author is a master at keeping you glued to every page with every book he writes and this is no exception a brilliant plot and storyline adding to the fabulous cast of characters!

If you're not following this series, you're missing out big time!

Brilliant plenty of twists and turns

We start off with a woman murdered and nailed to a fireplace at a derelict farm house .We later find out a similar murder happened decades before. Then a schoolboy is murdered and a schoolgirl abducted, bannister is still getting terms with the death of his wife .I think that's enough to wet your appetite so I'll say no more about the storyline. What I will say his it's a brilliant read plenty of twist and turns to keep you guessing. So if you've not read any of the lasser series start off with the needle house and work your way through you're in for a treat

Same old, same old...

This has more holes than a Swiss cheese. Such goings on in a smallish town, and no press clamour? It would make National headlines, probably international. Also, where's the usual procedurals? The searches, the door to door enquiries? I've enjoyed the first few books in this series, but Lasser and Banister have got rather cut and paste now. I've read my last one...

. Left me guessing right up to the final reveal

Another great book filled with twists and turns , the team once again shows the reader that they are more of a family then people who work with each , Black’s character is as repulsive as always and once again leaves rooting for Banister as he sets things right . I always hate getting closer to knowing who did what , because it also means the end of another great book that drew me in from the first book in the series

Wow!

Book 25 in the DS Lasser fest and it’s another roller coaster of a read. I started at book 1 and by now I must have read an equivalent amount of words as if I’d read War and Peace. I have not been disappointed by a single book, the characters have evolved and become ‘people’ I care about and could envisage being my life. That’s the sign of a good author. On to number 26 and I cannot wait. I recommend this series of books.

Another fantastic story from Robin Roughley. Absolutely love reading about Lasser. This book just kept getting better and better. I had my suspicions of the murderer but the way the story built and built was amazing. Just find it hard to imagine so much rain, and I live in Manchester!! Can't wait for the next one now.

I'm not sure where the term third eye comes into the story. I enjoyed some of this book but did have my attention drifting here and there, so just 3 stars from me, but i see from the reviews that this is a popular series, i've only read 3 of them, and gave one 2 stars and one 4 stars. I was curious about Steve Black so might read more to see what happens with his character...

Brilliant to read about Lasser again. So glad him and Jackie are looking after Bannister. Fast paced as usual as the team are all challenged again. Clever storyline as we've come to expect, had several theories till near the end, obviously wrong!! Roll on the next one!!

This is the 25th Lasser book and it was every bit as good or better than the others! The mysteries are always complex and keep you guessing. The characters are people you would like to know. I highly recommend this book and the whole series! Long live Lasser!

Wonderful

Mr. Roughley has done it again. This is another wonderful instalment in the adventures of Det.Sgt. Lasser. Anyone new to these thrilling books, I would advise starting at Book 1, one way of coping with with this lockdown! Can't wait for the twenty-sixth.

Not the same excitement

This is the first of the Lasser books that have not dragged me straight in from the first paragraphs. There was not the same excitement in this book. I missed Plymouth and realised who the killer was before the end which is unusual.

Mentor

A happier ending than the last book. Wish they had automatic transmissions so they wouldn't have to keep shifting gears. Absolute power corrupts even with high ranking sociopaths. Lasser and Banister are true to the max and catch all the bad guys.
