Are you struggling to forgive someone—or multiple people—who have deeply hurt you? Do you frequently feel bitter or offended? When the sin of the people around us looms large in our minds, we need to look to God. His great love is not only an encouragement amid our pain but also the foundation on which we build true forgiveness for others. In this 31-day devotional, through readings, reflection questions, and action points, biblical counselor Hayley Satrom turns us to Scripture to see the grace and mercy that God daily pours out on us despite our sins against him—then shows us how to forgive others in practical terms.
Forgiveness is hard and often takes serious heart work. On top of that, many books and resources on forgiveness give quick pat answers commanding the reader to forgive. But there is a big difference between knowing you should forgive and actually forgiving someone in your heart. This book plays the long game and looks at forgiveness from a variety of different biblical passages over 31 days to slowly soften the heart of the reader towards a posture that honors the Lord. I highly recommend this!
Really good stuff. First time reading one of these short P&R counseling books. I didn't go through this 31 days straight; my wife and I read these together before going to bed probably twice a week. Some very good devotional nuggets of truth. I really like the format and the discussion questions. Highly recommended to use as something to go through with another believer.
This series is so helpful, thoughtful, and refreshing. I feel like I’m sitting with a counselor who knows exactly what I need to hear, work through, and meditate on. I am so thankful for this book and this series
Beginning is great, but Satrom's middle and ending sections are absolutely horrendous.
This is not a great book for women and teens in abusive situations, where unrepentant unrelenting abuse is excused and pinned on the victims - that not maintaining a relationship is ultimately up to the victim to forgive completely even without remorse from the abusers.
Her favorite example is a husband commiting ongoing adultery and how it's up to the wife to forgive him even when he's not sorry and keeps going back to it.
Hard. Pass.
It overall makes the book a bad read, dangerous for those weaker in our society, and more "bone" then "meat".
This was absolutely fantastic! I bought this years ago for myself but recently read it as a recommendation for our church library. I would highly recommend this devotional to anyone struggling with forgiveness. Read and reviewed for my church library.
This is a fabulous work. Not only a great primer on forgiveness but an excellent stand alone coverage of the topic. I also appreciate the suggested resources.
Good little book on forgiveness that I enjoyed reading along with my Bible reading each day. Nothing earth-shatteringly incredible but simple and full of truth.
Really good devotional. I appreciate that she discusses the dynamics of forgiving those who do not repent. I also love how God oriented this devotional is. So much of our talk about forgiveness today is something like “forgive because it is what’s best for you!” While I understand that our forgiveness is not centered first and foremost around us but God, then offended/offender.
