About the Book: This Pup Steps Up! by Anna E. Jordan combines candid dog photos with a playful, rhyming narrative that entertains and teaches about many things that dogs can do. Many different breeds feature within the pages and the insides of the covers are devoted to labeling photos of the breeds. Bright colors accent the pages and draw the reader’s eye, but the pups remain the prominent stars of the book. While some of the photo editing could have been better, my kids focused on the dogs, not the flaws.
About Our Experience: Both of my daughters (ages 5 and 8) were interested in This Pup Steps Up! as soon as it came out of the package. We read the book together, and I have seen them reading it on their own as well. Though they are above the targeted preschool age range, both girls said they liked the book. They had questions about the dogs that herd sheep, so we took a few minutes to research information about that. I liked that it spurred conversation and learning about a topic.
Final Thoughts: This Pup Steps Up!: A Dog Book for Kids by Anna E. Jordan will likely be enjoyed by young children, especially those who have a pup or interest in dogs.

Dogs are so many things!
THIS PUP STEPS US is bursting with energy, sunshine, and fun just like our four-legged canine friends. Full of colorful photographs and graphics, this read-aloud in rhyme introduces young children to a wide range of breeds as it shows some of the many roles dogs play in the lives of their people, from comforting helpers and guides to ever-loyal and cuddly buddies to adorably naughty and endearing mischief-makers. Definitely worth a read if you have a young dog lover, or even if you don't!

Author Anna Jordan combines brief, factual text with adorable dog photographs and bold geometric accents to create a book for 2-5 year olds that will entertain and provide lots of opportunity for extended conversations about dogs and the things they do. Great choice for preschool classrooms and libraries that cater to the target age group. Thanks for the preview copy, Amazon Vine.

What a fun book! It is colorful and filled with pups and kids from all walks of life. Little ones and dog lovers will both enjoy the many, many paws packed in these pages. I received this book as part of a promotion but I'll be purchasing several more as gifts!

This Pup Steps Up is such a fun and energetic read, one that both children and parents will want to read, again and again. It extolls the wonderful bond between dogs and people. I highly recommend this book.
