Lainey Green has got exactly what she wants—the dream location for her equine therapy centre and a place to settle down and call home.
Unfortunately for Jake Maynard, that home is the farm he desperately wanted, and the alpaca owning, farm running, town Romeo isn’t about to be on the welcoming committee for Lainey anytime soon.
Irritation turns into rivalry, which morphs into something else entirely. And pretty soon Jake Maynard is well on the way to hanging up his playboy ways for good. Lainey is the only prize he’s interested in winning. Now all he has to do is persuade his feisty, independent neighbour to feel the same about him.
Sweetended by Annie Dyer is such a cozy, swoony and heart melting small town romance with just the right about of heat and steam. I can spend days inside the pages with the beautiful town of Severton and its awesome citizens as the author takes me through the bittersweet tale of two neighbouring enemies becoming soulmates.
Jake Maynard hates Laine Green. Because she bought the farm land by his own farm. The space he had big plan for. Expansion for more rescue animals. More glampods for town's economy. Laine understands it perfectly as they constantly end up having some kind of fight. She is new in town, setting up her farm and animals for her therapy services and she really doesn't have time for the grumpy and sexy neighbour. But while playing pranks on each other, they slowly feels a connection building up and they don't know how to handle it. Will Jake leave behind his reputation as a Casanova? Will Lanie take the risk?
It was the cutest slow burn and I had a blast from first page to last. I love this kind of series with a big cast from all age groups. The main family with siblings, cousins and their spouses. The friends. The little details of all the establishments. It's such a fun and welcoming set up. You would want to read all about them but won't miss anything major if you haven't. Jake is the proverbial one night stand expert but actually the small town gossip is more vicious than the truth. I just love this man. The farmer aka Severton's search and rescue team member with hot body and a big heart. What more do you need? He is witty. Charming. Helpful. Caring. Protective. Rough and edgy when needed. He loves the town and is a softie deep inside. He loves thrill and risks but for his loved ones, he always needs safety.
And I don't blame Lainey for falling for his roguish charm at all. This woman is just brilliant. Smart. Intelligent. Hard working. Independent. Open minded. She embraced the town and its crazy people so easily! She is sassy and fierce and kind hearted at the same time. She resisted Jake and also didn't let him steamroll her when she first moved in. I loved their back and forth. It was hilarious and the best kind of foreplay. The chemistry was blazing hot and I was waiting for them to give in. And when they did..boom! They became friends first and then lovers and finally soulmates. And the transition was amazing! It was sweet. Intense. Heartaching. Everything. They just fit as partners.
Sweetened by Annie Dyer is the kind of romance that makes me feel good from inside. For that time, I can leave my worries behind and feel my heart filling with warm soft feels. Best kind of escape indeed.
I fell in love with this author with the Callaghan series. Like, FELL hard. I am still swooning over all of these characters, especially Seph. after being reintroduced to the cousins in Seph's book I knew I had to venture over to Severton. I won't lie and say that I fell as hard with this series but I did enjoy it. However, as the series progressed and I got more invested in this group of friends and family I found myself falling for them. I was invested in seeing what these characters and the crazy alpacas were up to. I am glad I stuck it out because this series is charming in a different way and this book is the best of them.
I loved that the author has tied these two characters together. Even if it is just a mention of one of the characters from the other series, it still gives me a giddy feeling because those characters were my friends (Don't judge) and in certain cases, they felt like family. I liked that this book stayed uniquely charming like this series but gave me more of the Callaghan vibe. Jake and Lainey were perfectly matched. I loved their banter, their pranks, and moreover their deep affection for animals. It was fun watching them grow together first as enemies, then friends, and finally lovers. The steam was HOT when it finally occurred and I liked that it didn't overpower the great story.
I look forward to whatever this author has next. I love that she can get me addicted to a whole new family and I look forward to reading more from the Greene family.
Sweetened is Fun, flirty and packs the heat with scorching chemistry! You will laugh out loud while fanning your face. Severton is my favorite fictional town, and I could read this over and over again. In book 5, we get to watch Jake and Lainey try their hardest not to fall for each other. Their hate/love/hate/love relationship makes for a delightful read full of bickering and lust. Jake is the town playboy, or so his reputation says, but he really just wants to settle down. When Lainey scoops up the land he wanted and moves next door, he is determined to hate everything about her. Lainey is infuriated with her neighbor’s rudeness, and intends to ignore him at all costs. Until they can’t, and they realize that they have much more in common than either could have imagined. They are both afraid to risk their hearts, but Lainey’s hesitation may just be the thing that brings the real heartbreak.
Enemies to Lovers in Severton This is book 5 of the Severton Search and Rescue series, but it can be read as a standalone. It is written in third person from a dual POV. Readers of this author will find that it overlaps both Shaken and The Partnership in the character timelines. Jake is a charming., sometimes reckless man with a playboy reputation. He is curls, muscles, and smiles on a hot farmer exterior. I love that he is so determined to succeed on his farm and that he has such a kind heart and good sense of humor. Lainey is starting her horse therapy business in Severton. I love her wit, determination, and intelligence. I adore that she can dish Jake’s wit right back at him. There is a lot of humor as they pull some fantastic pranks on each other. There is a lot of heat between the two characters who cannot stay away from each other. Their attraction is fierce. There are also some seriously romantic moments. I love it when Jake decides he wants to make Lainey his. He has a protective instinct for her that is extremely lovable. I love that he sees really her, her strength, and that he helps build her up after the damage an idiot ex did to her self-esteem. This book was everything I look for from this author. Humor, hot times, a bit of suspense, and lots of family relationship fun are included n this wonderful addition to the Severton series. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
Enemies to Lovers and this is the best kind! Jake Maynard, we’re here for you! 😁 So, Jake wanted to purchase the farm next to him but the farm was sold to another bidder! What could possibly go wrong? Well, Jake has a definite grudge against his new neighbor, Lainey Green (yup..that Green family! 😉) and she picks up on that..ahem...attitude and they immediately don’t “like” each other. Jake tried to ignore Lainey, but that doesn’t really work especially because of Jake’s wandering alpacas who routinely end up all over the place including Lainey’s kitchen and also break the fence between the property. The dislike for these two melts slowly and they develop a bit of a truce with pranks happening on the regular. The spark is lit for these two, but it starts and stalls a little bit.
This could be read as a stand alone as this is an interconnected series. I do want to say as an American fan, there are a lot of UK spellings, saying, and objects with different names than the US names, but, that being said, I read this entire book with a UK accent and it’s charming. If I don’t know what a particular object (there are very few in this book) is I just quickly look it up, it’s not distracting to me.
This is such a great story and I’m in love with their love!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, always wanted to know what was going on with Jake and his alpacas.
This book takes us back to Severton a fictional town not far from me, populated by some interesting characters from Gran who makes gin to Sadie Grace who is a right royal terror. We meet the couples we got to know in the previous books, Sleighed, Stirred, Smouldered and Shaken. We get to find out more about the intrigue and investigations that have been woven through the series. We also get to meet someone the characters from the Callaghan Green because Lainey is their cousin.
I'm not going to tell you any more, I just reread the others in preparation for this one, It was brilliant being back in their world.
Thank you Annie, I can't wait to read what you come up with next
I fell in love with Annie Dyer's writing back in Max and Victoria's book from the Callaghan Green series but as I've read her books each one has gotten better and better. Sweetened is my favorite book of the Severton series and I am absolutely in love with Jake and Lainey.
I've been waiting for Jake's book since he was introduced in the series and this book did not disappoint. The prank war between Jake and Lainey was amazing and hilarious and set up their banter perfectly. They knew exactly how to push each other's buttons and thays exactly what they did. Jake knew how to drive Lainey crazy, but Lainey knew how to rattle Jake up like no one else. Their individual fire was the perfect match for each other. As their story continues, I loved seeing the changes in Jake as he realizes what he wants and how getting what he wants is out of his control.
Finally, I loved how this book was able to connect the Callaghan series with the Severton series and all the small Easter eggs that come along with reading all the books before it. However, reading those books is not necessary to enjoy this story but if you haven't read either series make sure to go read them and this book!
Another great book by a great author! I have loved the Severton series from the start.
Jake is a hard working man, who loves his local town, he knows pretty much everyone and they know him, some by reputation only, and not in a good way!! He is gutted when he loses out on buying the farm next door, as he wanted to expand, and he is determined to make the life of whoever buys it hell.
Lainey has always loved horses and has bought a farm in Severton to start her own business, part of which is therapy for children who have suffered trauma in life, but what she didn’t expect was so much hostility from her handsome neighbour.
Practical jokes, harsh words, protective natures, jealousy and love are all part of this story, but can Jake let go of Lainey’s purchase of the farm and can Lainey overcome the self doubt she has of getting involved with him.
Love visiting Severton! And now we get Jake's book and wowza is it a doozy! Enemies to lovers is a favorite genre of mine and this does not disappoint. Lainey Green (you'll recognize her from Annie's Callaghan-Green series) is Jake's new neighbor and he is not happy. She's a hard working, beautiful woman on a mission to set up her equine therapy. Jake is the local, good-natured flirt who isn't always taken seriously. Lainey is completely confused and frustrated by him. These two have so much chemistry and yet they fight it for far too long. I adored the chaos of the animals, getting to visit with Jake's family, ALL the silly pranks, and just being back in Severton. Of course we get to see Sadie Grace too in all her glory, lol! Looking forward to more from this series!
Sweetened Severton Search and Rescue Series Annie Dyer ‘“If you stop glaring over there, we might get this done a lot quicker.” His cousin, Zack taped Jake’s foot with a hammer. “Then we can find the walking flea bags that are probably destroying my livelihood.”’ The banter, the alpacas, the easy camaraderie are all bursting from the pages from the very beginning. A visit to Severton should always to be cherished. This story is a luscious, sweet, hot enemies to lovers wander through Severton. I didn’t want it to end! “Jake Maynard didn’t do confidence crises. He didn’t second guess himself or question too much about what choices he made. He considered himself a decent bloke who wouldn’t hurt someone on purpose, because the one time he kind of had, he’d never truly gotten over it.” Jake had a reputation that Lainey didn’t want a part of. She resisted getting too close or letting Jake in. She couldn’t allow herself to be just a notch. These two are like magnets repelling one minute and fighting not to be moths to a flame. These characters are so well written and do strong! “Rain on a sunny day” Love, love, love this book. It is like a warm hug. This book is part of two intersecting series but can totally read as a stand-alone novel with hea. I received an arc of this book. 5 farm stars
I loved Jake and Lainey's story! It's a wonderful edition to the series with all the feels with all a wonderful cast of characters that have become one of my favorite book families. I love this series so much and highly recommend all of Annie's wonderful books.
I love Severton and I love coming back to this cast of characters! This is a special book because it combines not only the Maynards from Severton but the Greens from the Callaghan-Green series! Jake and Lainey do not get off on the right foot when she buys the farm that Jake has had his eye on. As they slowly start to get to know each other and pull pranks on each other, their feelings toward each other start to change. Jake has always been such a fun and loving character, I couldn't wait for him to get his HEA and this didn't disappoint! I love a good enemies to lovers and the setting of Severton makes it just about perfect. Severton is a character all on its own and I would absolutely live there if I could! I adore this series and this family and this a definite must read!
I loved this addition to Severton (even though it can be read as a stand alone I suggest reading the series in order), as we not only get more Maynard family antics but also some from the Callaghan cousins. Jake was upset that Lainey bought the farm he wanted and didn't hide his displeasure. I loved how Lainey was such a strong woman and didn't hold her punches with Jake. Severton is such a special small town and I can't wait to visit this place again!
OMG! I have read all of Annie’s books and per usual this one did not disappoint. I am in love with Severton and all of it’s characters. Jake is the Seph is this series (if you know then you know) and I was waiting for a girl to come along and kick his butt! Lainey is a strong female who takes no non sense and it shows. The chemistry between these two was fire! We also get more insight into more of the Callaghan cousins which makes me squee because I love this family.
I was so excited to read this and it did not disappoint! Annie Dyer’s characters and plot lines are so exciting and intriguing that I couldn’t put it down! I’ve been waiting for Jake Maynard’s story for a long time and the chemistry between him and Lainey was just.....spectacular!
Highly recommend the series but this can be read as a stand-alone if desired.
This is my first book by Annie Dyer and I really enjoyed it. I was drawn to the story of Jake and Lainey initially because of the setting, the farms and the animals involved. Their feisty chemistry hooked me and I couldn’t wait to see what they would do to get under each other’s skin next. I also enjoyed the fact that Jake’s farm was a place for rescues, whether they were chickens, goats, dogs, horses or even alpacas. I wish there had been a bit more about the alpacas, their antics cracked me up! The only thing I wish had been a bit more in depth was Lainey’s farm being used for therapy, I feel like the surface was just scratched there. Then again, perhaps the story is meant more to be about the love/hate relationship that Jake and Lainey had. Also, a few pages in I did realize that this book was part of a series but I was able to follow along fine without having read any of the previous books. This story did interest me enough that I would go back and read the previous books in the Severton Search & Rescue series.
This is Jake's book and I really enjoyed it. Jake is a farmer and he wanted to expand his property but the land was sold to town newcomer, Lainey Greene. Lainey is related to the Callaghan series in that she is one of their cousins. We don't see them in this story but we hear about them and the family connection.
Lainey buys the land so she can run a horse therapy business. She is very wealthy and comes from a wonderful family and she plans to help kids who need therapy through her horses. When Jake and her meet its automatic attraction but also anger as he tells her that he wanted her land that she ended up buying.
However they are now neighbors and one of my favorite part of this story are the prank wars that they play with each other while they start to let go of the anger and be there for each other. This was an awesome story and a new favorite in this series.
Lainey knows Jake is the town Lothario and so as they form a romantic relationship she wants to hide it and well its the only part I did not like in the story but when she decides to share the news well I adored the way she claims Jake.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have been looking forward to Jake Maynard's story for a long time and Annie Dyer did not disappoint!
Jake and Lainey start off as enemies and the banter (and pranks) are both wicked and hilarious. Their chemistry is strong but there is so much animosity between the two there seems like they will never find common ground...until one kiss leads to a reluctant friendship and so much more.
This book has it all- a great small town feeling, steamy, steamy times, and all the fun that only can happen when the Maynards get together. Jake Maynard was well worth the wait!
I heartily recommend this series to you. Each book is a complete story but to get the most enjoyment out of them I suggest reading them in order. Annie Dyer writes so well that you feel like you know the characters! Lainey and Jake start off on the wrong foot but they have more similarities than disparities between them and sparks soon begin to fly! The question is will their attraction burn out or will the flames of passion turn to enduring love? The surrounding cast of very likeable and quirky characters make the story even richer. If Severton was a real place I would want to live there with those lovely people! I received a free ARC of Sweetened in return for my honest review.
Jake's book was simply amazing! Lainey was the perfect fit for him. I found her to be such a strong female character, I almost expected her to chew him up and spit him out, but their HEA was so much better! I loved all the Severton town celebrations, I do really wish the place existed, I might actually move there myself. The push/pull between Jake and Lainey was so fun to read, all the animals they both dealt with, the little details of their lives, just made this book everything and more. A perfect last book for the Severton series.
Another great read by Annie Dyer! Lainey is a strong kick butt character and Jake is not what everyone thinks. I enjoyed getting to know them. I loved the prank war between Lainey and Jake! Severton is such a great town and I love getting to visit it, I would totally live there if I could. Definitely pick this one up if you're in the mood for a great enemies-to-lovers, steamy, fun read.
Absolutely loved Jake and Lainey’s story. I think this is my favorite book of the series so far. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite stories. There’s so much more to Jake than I thought from the glimpses of him in the other books. Nothing like a strong independent woman to bring a man to his knees...Jake found his match with Lainey and I couldn’t have loved this book more.
I really enjoyed the story of Lainey and Jake. It was so much fun learning more of the characters and getting more conversations between them. I loved the bickering between them and how it evolved into a loving relationship. I would definitely recommend this book
I was so excited to grab Jake's book - the village heart throb. The guy who had every woman swooning over him especially Gran and the coven - but he loved it.
It didn't bother him until Lainey Green showed and shut his advances down immediately. Rejection doesn't sit nicely for this Maynard and bites him hard.
How can Jake show that he is more than just a pretty faced player in a small village? A guy who actually wants a chance rather than be judged by a reputation.
With this being the last Maynard book it draws the end of a chapter of this group but opens the beginning of another with the crossover with the Green's. With various names dropped in this book this series is far from over...
I love an enemies to lovers story and this was a great story. Jake and Lainey don't get off to the best start when Lainey buys the farm next door to Jake's, unfortunately she didn't realise that Jake had set his heart on buying it. This starts a series of pranks between the two which made me laugh out loud.
All of the lovable characters of Severton appear including the Alpaca's with a few new faces as well. Another fantastic book, I loved this series.
What I love about Annie's books the most is the potential, with each new character mentioned you are curious to read about their HEA, hopefully we will be hearing more from Imogen, Will and Olly.
Sweetened brings you the adorable and heartfelt story of Jake and his HEA Lainey.
So far we have been reading about the fun loving, helpful, happy go lucky Jake and his crew of misfit alpacas in previous Severton stories. And, we have had a few little glimpses of Lainey during her visits with her Callaghan family members (if you haven't been reading about the Callaghan's...hurry and get caught up.)
Jake and Lainey come together like peanut butter and jelly - a little messy, but finger licking good. Filled with lots of angsty banter and good natured pranks, both Jake and Lainey are good hearted, family oriented and focused on making their small community better. It's real and everything you want in a good love story - laughter, adventures, and kindness.
I loved going back to Severton & seeing old & new friends, including some of the Callaghan gang. Jake, the playboy risk taker of Severton, has a new neighbor & he’s not happy - that land was his! Lainey is new to town with a set of siblings who are crazy - and she’s not. The calendar Search & Rescue neighbor was going to be a one-time thing - until it’s not. Alpacas, concerts, yurts, and an auction pepper small-town Severton. It’s a place I look forward to visiting again & again.
I'm giving an honest review for reading this ARC of Sweetened. I love small town romance, especially the couples of Severton. Jake Maynard is angry at his new neighbor Lainey Green because she bought "his" land. Has Jake finally met his match and settle down or will his bad boy ways keep him single? I just want to move to Severton.
I absolutely love Severton. It is the best town I have read about. I absolutely adored Lainey and Jake so much. Their banter was laugh out loud funny and they chemistry was brilliant. I love how they went between liking each other to hating each other and then back again. Such a fun and easy read.
Annie saved the best to last! Jake was always my favourite and finally I got my hands on his story and what a story it was!
Jake's the town Romeo, well so he likes everyone to believe! There isn't a female out their that Jake can't charm until Lainey Green arrives!
Jake is annoyed, he wanted the next door farm but it was snapped up by one Lainey Green! Jake and Lainey have a love/hate thing going on! But the minute they meet for the first time the sparks are flying!
I loved the practical jokes they played on each other, they were so much fun and had me laughing so much! Their banter was so good and their chemistry was of the charts! So hot!
I loved the little glimpses of Imogen that we got too and I am even more excited for her book! I loved that Sweetened tied in the Callaghan world!
It was the perfect ending to the Maynard branch of the series but I am excited that we aren't leaving Severton yet! I have so much love for these characters and this series! I am really hoping that we haven't seen the last of Marley, Will and Ollie!
