Two cowboys walk onto a ranch. The girl falls for both. But they’re in love with each other, and she’s stuck in the friend zone. Sounds like a bad joke, right?

I’ve fantasized about getting between them, but they don’t think I’m that type of girl.

By day Ann Grech lives in the corporate world and can be found sitting behind a desk typing away at reports and papers or lecturing to a room full of students. She graduated with a PhD in 2016 and is now an over-qualified nerd. Glasses, briefcase, high heels and a pencil skirt, she’s got the librarian look nailed too. If only they knew! She swears like a sailor, so that’s got to be a hint. The other one was “the look” from her tattoo artist when she told him that she wanted her kids initials “B” and “J” tattooed on her foot. It took a second to register that it might be a bad idea.
She’s never entirely fit in and loves escaping into a book—whether it’s reading or writing one. But she’s found her tribe now and loves her MM book world family. She dislikes cooking, but loves eating, can’t figure out technology, but is addicted to it, and her guilty pleasure is Byron Bay Cookies. Oh and shoes. And lingerie. And maybe handbags too. Well, if we’re being honest, we’d probably have to add her library too given the state of her credit card every month (what can she say, she’s a bookworm at heart)!
She also publishes her raunchier short stories under her pen name, Olive Hiscock.

Three of Us by Ann Grech is a MMF, stand alone romance. This was my very first book by this author. If you read her Pearce Station Duet, you met Scottie, the lead stockman at Pearce Station in Australia. This is Scottie’s sister, Ally’s story, and the two men she fell in love with.

Craig Williams and Sam Hayes have been best mates since they were born. They have always been inseparable, always moving in sync, two halves of a whole. They had what they thought was a perfect life, living on Sam’s family’s farm until everything fell apart. After they finished school, they drifted from town to town, from job to job for years until fate led them to Pearce Station. For the first time in a very long time, they felt like they were home.

“It was as if we’d worked for so long, sometimes in the worst of conditions, just so that when home called us, we’d know.”

Ally has been born and raised on Pearce Station. She can’t imagine living anywhere else. But she is lonely. When Craig and Sam arrive, the attraction she feels for both men is immediate and strong. But she senses a closeness between them and is convinced that they are more than just friends, that they are a couple. And they immediately friend zone her. So for over a decade, these three go about their lives at Pearce Station, a trio of best friends. But misconceptions run rampant. Sam and Craig aren’t a couple, even though they both harbor secret fantasies of the other. And even though they both do love Ally, they made a pact that they would both leave her alone.

Life in the Outback is not easy. This crew faces daily challenges but also find joy in making a life on the land they love. But Ally’s brother has also been keeping a secret. And when tragedy almost strikes, and his truths are revealed, it shakes Craig to the core and he almost destroys the relationships he most holds dear. It forces all three of them to finally face their own truths.

This is a very, very slow burn romance. Although I don’t mind a slow burn when the romance between the characters is constantly being built up, that wasn’t really the case with this. These three all kept their feelings a secret. It took a life changing event to finally shake them all up enough to finally open up. The writing in this was beautiful; the country described is vivid and breathtaking. I did struggle feeling the romantic connection between these three due to the pace. I loved the ending. It was sexy and sweet. I was also intrigued to know more about Scottie’s story.

Whenever I read polyamorous romances I always think about how one of my favorite podcast writers said that the hardest part about writing a poly triad was that instead of just one relationship dynamic needing to being fleshed, there are now 4 relationship dynamics to be fleshed out-- one for each pair plus the dynamic between all three together. Three of Us did not deliver on this. While Craig and Sam's relationship felt natural and real, Ally's Dynamic with Craig and Sam respectively felt forced and contrived. I never really got why Ally was attracted to Craig and Sam, why she grew to love them. The same goes for Sam and Craig's attraction to Ally. For me, it's super important that I get more than "I like you." I am much more interested in "I like you because.." One of the biggest contributing factors to this distance I think was the really weird time jumps that just came like in the middle of the story. It just made me feel like I was missing out on chances to see these three's dynamic at work.

Also, there was a LOT of miscommunication and misunderstandings. Normally I don't mind some communication errors because I get it; communicating and being vulnerable is hard. But here any issues felt contrived and forced and made me want to tear my hair out (and not in a good way).

I will say I did appreciate the "laughter during sex" trope being utilized because that was when I saw the most potential for the triad. Unfortunately, I felt like that potential was never really filled for me.

A stand alone book, from the author of Outback Treasure.
Craig at fifteen, gives us a glimpse of his beginnings. He and Sam were connected all through their lives, even after the devastation of their parent's finances.
Then at 25, we see them take a job at Pearce Station, where
we met Scottie, Pete, Ally and more in the Outback Treasure duo.

The land is remote and raw, with red dirt, it's rough, but full of promise. The author gives us marvelous, lilting language in the descriptions and the folks feelings.
Scottie runs the Station with his family and partner. His sis, Ally, slim with long brown hair, is a natural beauty.
Sam, dark hair,

and Craig with his blond buzz cut

are both loyal, and devoted to work and each other.

Sam and Craig are both drawn to her, but won't risk their friendship over jealousy, and on top of that, Sam is in love with Craig, but hiding it.
Our MCs love the Station, they fit in and grow to love it. The harsh conditions, new adventures and wonderful people are all around them.

Time moves on and on, with interactions of the crew, acceptance and a good life.
But, our three, Ally, Sam and Craig, play a keep-away game. Ally thinks the men are gay, and our men hold back because they both want her and grow to love her, but she's the boss's sis.
After ten years, yes, ten, the pressure comes to a boil. The truths are told, decisions made, and Craig screws up. Much is going on.

Then, their M/M/F sexy times are explicit, scorching hot and include first times for Sam and Craig.

The story moves slowly, but we get what we've waited for and more.
ENJOY !

This is more of a rant rather than a review because I am stubborn, otherwise I would have stopped reading around the third time jump. As it turns out, I stopped reading at around 65%.

Very poor literature!!! This book lacks plot depth and development of characters and utilizes time jumps and miscommunications and even so the story takes forever to unfurl.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

So, basically, this book is about two blokes in love, neither of which is willing to acknowledge this for fear of being judged for being gay, both of whom -out of the blue- fall in love with the same girl. Still, nothing happens because she thinks they're gay, all this in the span of the first half of the book, which takes place in a period of about twenty-odd years going from time-jump to time-jump not even having anything significant happening every time we land on a period. It's like describing rural life for filler and making time jumps to give the feelings of the people depth through the time that has passed.

A few more time jumps ahead she confronts them in a scene that makes absolutely no sense basically accusing them of lying to her because she made the assumption that they were gay (Say what??). And , mind you, we are talking about 35 y.o. people, not teens. At this point I'm reading thinking WTF?

As if this book could ever reach the peak of irrationality, when another character comes out as gay one of the guys shows as much contempt as humanly possible, just to provide another obstacle for the throuple. AS IF!

Worst waste of time. I do not recommend this book.

The Three Of Us is book 3 in the Outback Treasure trilogy....
If you haven't , by heck do yourselves a favour and fall in love with this series...
The exceptional landscape, the harsh working conditions, the perceptions of hard cowboys and long lived prejudices, but mostly the depth of love felt in this harshest of places is just amazing.

This book follows Craig and Sam who end up living and working at Pearce station following a string of tragedies, and the developing relationship with Ally, the daughter at the station.

Having devoured the first two books I was really intrigued about the ties between Sam and Craig, who seemed to live and work as one person...

Sam and Craig's families lived and farmed together until 4 years of drought took everything away. As young children growing up they experienced all of their firsts together. Walking, talking, playing, school, helping out around the farm helped them mature in to strong boys, a hard life made tough men.
During their first sexual awakenings, confusing emotions, they were together.
Losing their farm, they roamed, rudderless for years, together.
Until as experienced farm hands they find themselves at Pearce Station, and the beautiful Ally.
She will bring everything they know crashing down...
Hold on tight for the ride...

My love for this environment and all of their inhabitants runs deep. This story has 2 alphas who have been in denial of their love for each other, fear keeping their feelings buried deep. Add to this both Sam and Craig's attraction to Ally and you have a recipe for tons of sexual tension. The push and pull, mixed messages and concealed desire left me breathless, but damn, the author made them work for their HEA ...

A beautifully written conclusion to this story that will leave your mind full and your heart happy.

Beautiful and mesmerising love story

Connected to the world Ann Grech established in the Pearce Station Duet, THREE OF US was a beautifully written story exploring secrets, desires, fears, friendships and unrequited love. Once again Ms Grech has woven the character of the Australian Outback and the harshness of life on a cattle station into her story to make it even more mesmerising.

Sam Hayes and Craig Williams, two men who have been the best of friends since their childhood days. Men, who as teenage boys experienced their first taste of sexual awakening together. Men whose lives had been turned upside down when the Hayes farm had to be sold. Spending the past decade travelling from farm to farm, station to station, Sam and Craig have never been apart. Now they've found long term employment at Pearce Station ... a place that will change their lives forever. Ally Pearce, sister of Scottie from the original duet, brings about a change that neither man ever expected.

Two men who love each other deeply, yet fear, confusion and society have them denying their feelings toward one another, often causing heartache for both. When they meet Ally both feel a pull towards her, yet neither is willing to risk the friendship that the three of them have formed. Sexual tension is rife, miscommunication abounds, and emotions are put to the test. Will the secrets they hide, and the feelings they have destroy the friendship they have when everything is out in the open?

From the very beginning Ms Grech's words captivated me. They made me feel as though I was there, experiencing every emotion, sight and sound. THREE OF US is a MUST READ for those who love MM and MMF stories. It is truly Ann Grech's forte.

It may only be January, however I can honestly say this will definitely be one of my top reads for 2021.

After enjoying the original duet centred around the son on Pearce Station, the same one in this story, I was keen to continue to read about the daughter’s story. A good choice, I was not disappointed, frustrated at times maybe 😆 but only because I wanted to push them towards my timeframe not theirs. This story explained a little bit more of the family background which was good too.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ally’s character, once again I was sorry she didn’t try harder but I did understand and was happy when her forthright, take no nonsense personality shone through. But what I a truly loved about Ally, and her family, is the total acceptance of others: their lifestyles, preferences, beliefs, religion, whatever. As for Craig and Scott, they were bonza blokes. While Craig had a slight hiccup or brain malfunction, he really was a great guy. Both were hardworking, honest, caring fellas. Both had known bitter disappointment but both had also been subject to peer approval and pressure, a common thing in society.

One of the main reasons why I have given an extra half a star is because I loved the descriptions of the Australian countryside and way of life. It made you feel like you were really there even with the heat and flies. 😉 The final scene, and no of course I won’t tell you and spoil it, is absolutely fantastic! You don’t have to read the Pearce Station Duet first as this is a standalone that interconnects but why deprive yourself of that treat?

This book is stand alone but set in an established world. Which means by all means do yourself a favour and pick up outback treasures and read them but they aren't essential reads to understand this story, and are actually more of a companion rather then a next in series.

This book couldn't have come at a more perfect time for me and Ann has a way of writing characters that hold you and yet feel familiar as if their you friends you just haven't caught up with in a few months. The raw emotion and the honest beautiful way that Ann introduces the reader to the outback of Australia and the majesty of the people who live there as well as the culture of the indigenous people crafts a beautiful story that has you feeling the pain and joy with each and every character.

Again... Ann has taken us into the red desert and into the lives of Ally, Craig and Sam! I have patiently waited to read their story and I was definitely not disappointed... we were treated to a bucket load of angst, miscommunication and a whole lot of steamy hotness as this story follows two Cowboys who find work on Pearce Station where they meet and both fall for Ally all the while both secretly being in love with each other. Highly recommend this whole series, to get the full Pearce Station experience... so many great characters, who will capture your imagination.

Not for me

He book covers a lifetime, and it feels like it.
So many mundane things . The expected relationship shows up in the last quarter of the book.
There are some close misses before hand but, they are misses.
None of the characters stood out for me. I couldn't tell you the difference between the two lead males. Well, near the end I could give you a difference but, for the most part they are interchangeable.
The pace was excruciatingly slow for me, I contusion read more from this author.

Sam, Craig & Ally (M/M/F)

This was a beautifully written story about 2 lifelong friends (Sam & Craig) living on a station in Australia. An earlier incident had them questioning things but never verbalized them out loud. They ended up traveling from job to job before finding the perfect fit. Which adds in Ally to the mix. Many many years go by before things gel with the 3 MC's. In the meantime I learn of the backbreaking work it requires to take care of the land & cattle. When the 3 finally get together it is sweet & loving. The ending is perfect!

While realistic ménage is a rare find, Ann Grech’s ‘Three of Us’ is exquisitely authentic. My heart cried for three people who must deny their natures at the start of this slow-burn. After all, this is the strait-laced Australian outback, an environment whose nature is also burning from a drought of human forethought.

Craig is the son of a horse ranch owner and Sam, the manager’s son. They grew up together until drought bankrupted the farm. Teenaged Sam and Craig set off together in a camper, finding work as they can. One unmentionable shared kiss is scant evidence of all the bisexuality they have repressed.

Ten years later they settle on a station and both fall in love with Ally, the owner’s daughter. Because Sam and Craig value their jobs and don’t want to compete for her, they agree to ignore the attraction and friend-zoned the triad stays, for seven more years. What would it take for three stubborn adults to break through denial and stoicism?

Grech’s portrait of Australia is as unrushed as her characters. “The colors lighting the horizon would never get old. Seeing the sky turn from greys into such a vivid blue that somehow saturated the red and washed out the grey-greens of everything that managed to grow out here. The world was fresh and calm and so full of promise at daybreak.” Timelessness dots the landscape, even as every person on the ranch enjoys grueling days of “hard yakka” (work.). Each knows they love the other two, love the rough countryside and their life together, but is too fearful to rock the boat – until nature strikes back. “An hour had passed. Each second seemed interminable, every tick going slower than the last.”

And despite the characters’ slow pace, Three of Us moves quickly because Grech’s creativity lets us love this land and these fierce, proud people. Their circumstances require them to build shields. She must make the case that a fragile threesome can survive an unforgiving environment. Grech knows Ally, Sam and Craig must remain true to themselves as they lower their defenses. And what results is pure wisdom. “None of us had any idea what happiness was until we accepted ourselves and understood that we were simply meant to be.”

I could endlessly compliment Three of Us, but Sam, Craig and Ally utter very few words, knowing language can cheapen meaning, and I will honor Ms. Grech’s ingenious vision in this standalone spinoff in her Pearce Station series.

Ann Grech has the ability to bring Australia to life for me, even though I've not been lucky enough to visit there yet. In Three of Us we get to return to Pearce Station, a remote cattle ranch deep in the Australian Outback. Scottie Pearce and his partner, Macca, from the Outback Treasure duet, feature in Three Of Us as well.

Ally Pearce is Scottie's sister, and though she too was born and raised out on the land like Scottie, she was never quite as sure that she belonged out there. She always felt like she needed more out of life.

Craig and Sam are best friends who grew up together, and until they were about 15 or so they too lived on a Station. But the drought drove them from their home, and after graduating high school the two traveled around Australia together working as stockmen. They ended up at Pearce Station when they were 25, and found their home. It was as close as they had ever been to their old homestead, deep in northern Queensland.

Aside from one kiss when they were kids, Craig and Sam were never together in any way other than friends. But it was so clear they loved each other, clear to everyone, including Ally. While Ally was wildly attracted to both men, and they were to her, she never explored it in the 12 years they lived together on the Station. It took a life crisis for Ally to lay it all on the line and tell Craig and Sam what she truly wanted - both of them. And it took Ally for them to realize what they were to each other - even after all their years together.

Three of Us is a gorgeous, slow-burning love story. Reading it makes you see how a relationship such as theirs could work. It shows how everyone could, in fact, get what they need and be happy in a triad instead of a traditional couple.

My most favourite part of Ann's work is how she's able to paint a picture of Australia that's so real and vivid. The Outback's vivid colours are so easy to see in her descriptions. I even sat down with trusty Google Maps and found some towns mentioned in the book - Longreach and Goondiwindi. And talk about remote! Longreach, the closest town to the fictional Pearce Station is a 12 hour drive from Brisbane! And it's only a town of about 3000 people. But I've added a road trip through the Outback to my bucket list - thanks to Ann!

Having enjoyed Scottie and Pete's duology, I was intrigued to know that there was a book with Scottie's sister and the two inseparable cowboys. It was such a slow burn story though with so many communication issues and such downright denial on the part of one of the characters that I despaired of there being an HEA for quite some time, but they got there even if their relationship felt a little unbalanced to me. I could see the love between Sam and Craig, but I couldn't quite see where Ally fit in other than they all lusted after each other. I would assume writing a polyamorous story is more difficult than writing one with a monogamous couple though, so I'll cut it some slack there.
Craig's fight with his bisexuality, shoving down how he felt for Sam for decades, was such a sad part of the story, and I was glad when he finally came to terms with himself and how he loved Sam. However, his personal growth and self-acceptance seemed to come all at once after a crisis that came pretty late in the book, so the HEA felt rushed.

Wow! Love comes in its own time.

This is the first book by this author that I have read, but it won’t be my last. She made the Outback come to life; I felt the dry, the dust, and the heat along with understanding the connection to the land and way of life. Then there is the story of Ally, Sam, and Craig. Their years long struggle to see themselves clearly and gather the courage to be themselves as a unit moved me to tears at times. (Yes my husband says I am a softie and I admit it.) Of course the loving sex made me hunt for a fan in the middle of winter.

No complaints. The story grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. The few instances of editing errors in the form of missing words were just blips that barely registered and were soon forgotten.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written story. The sexuality of the characters is an important component that made it that much more compelling.

I really enjoyed my time reading this stand-along novel which was set in a fictional Pearce Station in the Australian outback. I loved the Aussie words and phrases, and the writing was excellent.
The main character, Ally who is the station owner's daughter, falls for Craig and Sam who show up to work at the station. Craig and Sam are tight and have worked together all of their lives. This is a novel that takes place over many years; my only complaint with the novel as it seems someone would have stated their feelings, after all, that time.
"His smile set something alight in me, and I loved watching it break across his face."
"Joy and warmth and happiness all mixed together in one rainbow-fuelled flock of birds filled my belly.
In the saddle he was a drink of cool water, and I was thirsty as hell."
Nan is the elder at Pearce Station, and she brings wisdom and a certain acceptance to all who live and work there.
I spent time on a horse farm and this story brought back wonderful memories of my teenage years being around horses and mucking out stalls.

Wow! Is all I can say. This book was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I can't believe it took them so long to admit their feelings! At times, I just wanted to slap all three of them. At other times, I wanted to give them a big hug to ease the pain. I was so happy when they finally got together. Especially after all that time and heartache.

This book actually made me cry ugly tears. It has been quite some time since that has happened. I was so hurt for them. Plus, I cried more than once. It is a little bit of a long book, but well worth the read. Knowing all the background about each character makes them all the more real.

It is such a beautiful romantic story even though it is unconventional. The guys are bi and the girl ends up with two lovers. The author does warn about this though. All in all, it's a beautiful book.

It was great to return to Pearce Station. 'Three of Us' is a standalone but the story is interlinked with 'Outback Station'. Ann Grech does a fabulous job capturing the Australian Outback, the landscape, struggles and the people, this story is more than a romance.

This was the story of Ally, Craig and Sam. It follows decades of friendship where each is oblivious to the wants of the others matching their own. Full of feelings, emotions and steamy chemistry. There is also accompanying doubts, as with 'Outback Station' these characters worry about acceptance and rejection if they show who they really are.

Be prepared for tears, keep the tissues close.

I won a paperback copy in a goodreads giveaway.

This was strange. It started with a sex scene between two fifteen year olds and I almost stopped reading. Instead I skipped over that and kept going. It contains such a long period of time, so many side characters who don't fully get explained because apparently they're in another book, and weirdly disjointed monologues about racism or climate change which me in the real world is all about....but in a cowboy MMF romance novel? Not so much. A very weird book that is trying to do way too much and ends up not accomplishing very much as a result. But the main guys did physically remind me of Dean and Cas or Merlin and Arthur so points for that.

Great Series! I want to go to Australia!

This series is a must read if you want to feel like you are on a station in the Outback of Australia. The way Ann Fresh describes the land, sky, trees, scrub and animals, she brings it all together, beautifully. The Pearce family live on this land because they are part of it, it's in their hearts and blood. The red dirt, the blue sky, millions of stars at night compared to the harshness of a drought lasting for years and the endless work to sustain the beauty and the earth's natural resources to maintain life for people and animals alike. I guess you could say I'm not a city person. I couldn't put the books down. ENJOY!

Ann's description of Australia our sunburnt country is absolutely perfect , Ann writes wonderful words taking you directly to the core.
Ally , Craig and Sam know what they would like , but time and life got in the way .
Slow burn romance with me pushing them on but they took their time but eventually love blooms.
The back story is riveting written so very well .
While reading I could see all the places Ann was describing vividly a book to start and not to put down..

This book will grab you from the moment that you start reading the first page and not let you go until the very last one is read. It moves along at a nice reading speed. The characters are amazing and you feel as though you know them personally and no matter what happens you want to be there for them. This story will keep you reading till the very end and then you want to know more. This is a must read, no doubt about it.

A heartfelt steamy read!

A heartfelt and steamy MMF romance read. While the storyline started out slowly, I loved the development of Sam and Craig’s friendship. Add in Ally to their relationship and the chemistry builds to a sizzling heat level. This newest release had all the delicious loving and emotional roller coaster that I enjoy in a story to keep me entertained from start to finish. This was only my second book by the author and it didn’t disappoint.

This was too much of a slow story. It took much longer than usual to read it and I lost intetest in the characters a lot as well. The last about 50 pages were romantic and sexy, but it did not seem realistic that they just were friends for two decades and with Ally over one and first after that some sparks came out. I like this author’s style of writing and storytelling in general but this just dragged too much for me.

Beautifully evocative writing, but this book should have a content warning for homophobia/homophobic slurs. Romance was veeerrrryyyyy slow burn. I appreciated that this Outback cattle station was generally quite progressive, with discussions of climate change, indigenous peoples, and (most characters’) acceptance and support of gay/poly MMF relationships. I also was glad to see some (to my somewhat ignorant eyes, at least) well-fleshed out indigenous characters with a fair bit of on-page time.
