It is the same trend…

as with the others in the series. It has veered off into the path of how we met Skye, Audra, and other humans.

Precious is a young girl in highschool when the Aliens take notice of her great scientific mind. They bring her on board through this program to guide humans that show are particular aptitude for the sciences. And with this, they pay and pave the way for them with influence and contacts.

All the women/girls are similar. They don’t usually come from means, but are highly intelligent, moral/ethical, anti-xenophobia, and easily guided and trustworthy. The other thing is that they are submissive by nature. They put them into the sights of the rich, powerful, and influential.

Precious is no different. She comes to Jasmine via Foxglove Blue medical facility. She is highly intelligent, a great pianist for her years, a fighter for justice, and has an instant love for the aliens. She has one small issue…marks on her face. I believe those very same marks is what keeps her humble and from feeling beautiful. We follow her story from this vulnerable place as she encounters female humans female aliens. Then one French girl opens up to her and shows her love beyond the marks on her face. We never really learn what they are. She never thought someone as beautiful as this girls was supposed to be fall in love with her.

She also becomes the pet project of Yvette. I am about tired of the Hollywood star typically called America’s Sweetheart. He friendships tend so seem more and more superficial as time goes on. I can only really see the friendship with Audra. And poor Foxglove is just an honorable mention in connection with Yvette.

Jasmine is always at the core of anything human/alien related. She finds the talent and then makes use of it however she can. And we find very powerful people/beings vying for them. Amaryllis the Alien Ambassador, Azalea and Bluebell Beamer, Jasmine Brighteyes, and now more powerful human contacts that want in with the Aliens are showing up. It is all about influence and money. These are privileged beings from earth or from outer space. It is more of the old that isn’t new. It is the same games being played that has played out on earth. It shows how the average person is overlooked while the wealthy or those that get caught in their sphere prosper and gain footholds into the elite realm. It no longer seems about the greater good of all of humanity, equally. The aliens did not change that. It is still about elitism.

And the relationship that was growing between Precious and Ichika was one that seemed pure. But you soon find out that Ichika is basically a Japanese Princess. Wealthy and of immense influence from family that owns a major corporation. It shows that a human once of average means, that gains connections and the ear of the Aliens are very useful. And Jasmine made sure that Ichika played games with Precious. Although the relationship between Ichika and Precious was growing, you didn’t really see it up close and personal. It was something that was happening in the background.

Too much time spent on games, aliens showing off their technology or changes they have made on earth, no time spent in the real world that most of humanity inhabits, too much time spent on alien control and influence. But targeted at only a few of the humans out of billions. They grab them while they are younger as they started with Skye as she was the first prototype. Then Audra. Then Yvette (who had her own influence of bering a star.). Then Galatea (whose parents were a cosmologist and an astronomer.). Now the aliens are looking at Jordyn (adopted daughter of Kitty-(political leanings) and Olivia-another scientist) who speaks several languages and has an international background from the time she was 12 years old and lost her parents. Jasmine, Azalea/Amaryllis and Riku wants her for their own means as well has her parents wanting to keep her. I am sure her story will be next. We don’t know much about her except for that Precious had a lot to do with her entering the lives of Olivia and Kitty via Jasmine Brighteyes at the request of Precious wanting someone that Kitty could mother.

And we find out something very startling about Ichika. And once we do, we see her dominant nature take over. She wants Precious to do whatever Ichika wants her to do. I think I was bothered by the fact that Ichika wanted her to honor ALL Japanese traditions that she felt was important, learn the Japanese language to fluency, become Japanese in a lot of ways and immerse into the culture and to do whatever Ichika wanted her to do. And Precious readily agreed. Ichika comes from a very wealthy, powerful, and influential and traditional Japanese family with the mother Riku the matriarch. I am a bit submissive in my own way and I love other cultures, but it seems this is almost a takeover as if Precious doesn’t have her own culture to cherish. It is an American culture all Americans mostly have with subcultures that we all have.

Boring

The worst of the Selected series by a lot. I really enjoyed every other book in the series. However this one was so boring. I couldn't figure out why, then it hit me. There weren't enough aliens. Additionally, Precious wasn't claimed by an alien. I know the basis if the story was to increase the knowledge of humans using humans, but there were aliens on Earth. She could've been claimed by a non-science alien. The selected series is about humans finding love among the aliens. Otherwise it's just a lesbian Harlequin romance novel.

I've read all the books in the 'Selected' series. This new installation doesn't disappoint. I appreciated learning it'd been 24 years since the 'distant hello' came to Earth. Precious' encounters gave me another part of the story; how the aliens still didn't feel safe traveling without protection on Earth but were still determined in their quest to 'move' humans along a different path. I liked how the aliens were playing 'the long game' by getting those who were not xenophobic into positions to make lasting socio-economic and cultural change. Precious' point of view matured throughout the book but she had a supportive family. I enjoyed returning to characters from Beginnings and Selected Assistant. I expected and received a thorough view of the Selected experience. If there's another in this series I will read it. Robin Roseau writes a good full-bodied story.

This review is to be short because. This was a wonderful story and therefore not a lot to review❗. Zero typos❗. Continuation was as all her releases flawless❗. And I see no reason to reveal any background from the book❗.
