I have been a Reiki Master for over 30 years, yet I still like to pick up any book I see on Reiki, especially when I find one at one of my favorite book review sites. Before I dive into the review of the book, I want to make clear that Reiki, or universal life force energy, just is. Other than being attuned to whatever level you choose, you need to know or do nothing more than your Reiki master teacher taught you... if you so choose. You can always add on other healing modalities that you like, but it is unnecessary and not necessarily create a more "advanced" form of Reiki than any other that could be practiced. Reiki is whole unto itself. My understanding is that pure Reiki energy is always beneficial and knows where to go without being directed. After being attuned, a Reiki practitioner’s hands become a channel for it.
It can be activated in any number of ways. In other words, no matter what you may read in this book or elsewhere, it's benign energy that can be called upon in several ways to be used for personal benefit, the benefit of others, or even for the good of the planet. Because I come to Reiki with this understanding, I found this particular book to be a bit too rigid in what it states about the energy itself as well as how to use it. The author writes as if it can only be accessed in certain structured ways, that it needs to be directed intentionally, and that it can be harmful in certain situations. From my understanding and experience, none of that is true.
I wouldn't really call this an advanced Reiki book. The bulk of the book, nearly up to page 90 or so, is about what I would call beginning Reiki, talking about what it is, its history (about which I don't agree with the author, either), its symbols, and ways to use them on yourself and others. Again, I believe the author is too rigid in this section. Reiki is a strong but gentle energy that can be activated simply when desired or needed after you are attuned; you need no fancy rituals or certain ways of approaching it and its symbols. I find myself wondering, from some of her statements, how far the author has gone in Reiki because some things she states are simply wrong. Reiki is simply universal life force energy. You don't gain access to different levels of it depending on your level of Reiki; the author incorrectly states that you get attuned to a higher vibration of Reiki energy in a second-level attunement. That's just not true.
The author only gets into what I would call advanced territory much later in the book, where she briefly touches upon how to integrate Reiki with other healing modalities like crystals. That is absolutely not necessary to perform Reiki on yourself or others, but if including other healing types with Reiki appeals to you, then you should not hesitate to combine the two (or three or more). Reiki can certainly be incorporated into almost any other healing practice. I did find reading this author's perspective on Reiki to be interesting, even if I didn't always agree with her.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Really good book. Coming from a place where Reiki is accepted and moving to an area that has a problem with these types of practices I have kind of lost touch with what I knew. This book refreshed my knowledge and desire to get back into the practice. It is a good book full of great information. I really believe more holistic healing practices would be a benefit to this area. It was a great history lesson but the five principles are something as a human we really should embrace and during the time of covid we need it even more. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Wow very interesting and educational .I enjoyed learning something new and hope to use this information.
The most informative Reiki book I have ever read and I highly recommend to those starting out on their Reiki journey or to any practitioner for more information
