Love Hard is the explosive final book in the Black Rose Kisses series.

Note: The blurb below contains spoilers, so I'd highly recommend not reading it until you've finished reading the first three books. If you haven't started the series yet, begin with Fight Dirty. Got it? Great!

***

With a single bullet, my heart shattered.

With a single bullet, the Jackals destroyed any chance at peace.

Because it’s not just about the war between two gangs anymore. When Hugh came after the people I love, he made it personal. I don’t care if Gavin still hates me, and I don’t give a shit if I’m disobeying his marching orders.

I’m going to end this.

Sloan, Levi… Rory.

I never thought I would fall for the men I tried so hard to hate.

But I did.

I love them in a way that’s not rational or sane. It’s hard, brutal, and fierce. It’s everything. And if I have to burn all of Fairview Heights down to protect them…

Give me a fucking match.

This is book four of four in the Black Rose Kisses series. It's a reverse harem new adult enemies-to-lovers/bully romance that includes high steam, violence, and foul language.

"Sighs." I swear that was my first reaction when I finished this book. This series has been a whirlwind of emotions. I loved every single moment.

Mercy, Sloan, Rory and Levi have come have long way. Every one of them with their own issues. But they also brought something special to the relationship.
The characters showed so much growth in this story. They're more open and trusting. Their love is felt throughout this read. The steam is Ah-mazing and the action had me on the edge of my seat.

I'm a huge fan of this series. It gave me everything I wanted and more. If you're an RH fan, add it to your TBR.

I had so much momentum reading this series, but I'm still amazed with how quickly I finished it. Things started off really quickly, and I enjoyed how we got into the thick of it from Fight Dirty. Each of the books got progressively better from there. What a glorious end in Love Hard.

I was wanting an E2L RH and this was just perfect with Sloan. I loved how ornery and restrained he was because you knew there was more to him than just being an asshole. Levi and Rory were just awesome from the beginning and that was such a pleasure. No bullying drama and unnecessary hate. I actually loved all the side characters as well. It was so nice to read a solid parent/child relationship that was healthy and happy. I wish that was more often the case in these darker RH stories. Scarlett and Mercy's friendship was gold and new friendship with Jenn as well as with Piper was great too.

My only critique of the series was early on in that her ruminating seemed quite repetitive, especially about trying to find useful info of the gang. She kept saying she needed to do so without getting anywhere, but given her situation, it was understandable.

Out of the 4 books, Love Hard was definitely my favorite. Everything wraps up beautifully and I felt spoiled with all the things in an HEA that I love. I can see myself returning if only to re-read those parts.

I really enjoyed this series and would definitely recommend it if you're looking for an RH with a fierce FMC who can handle her own battles but falls for three Hs who become equally enraptured by her.

Wow! What a way to end a series. I have loved this series from the beginning with all the twists and turn. I really didn’t want it to end because I fell in love with all the characters.

If you like a RH with 3 hot mafia men and a strong feisty female, with hot and steamy sex scenes, loads of twist and action this book is for you.

“𝙄𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚... 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙨𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙠𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙖 𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣, 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙞𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙞𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙜𝙤𝙚𝙨. 𝙈𝙮 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙤 𝙗𝙞𝙜, 𝙨𝙤 𝙛𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝.”

Mercy, Rory, Slone and Levi are perfect together. They complement each other in different ways. Rory is my fave. He is the cocky, funny one. Levi is the hot level headed one and slone is your broody Alpha. I don’t want to say to much about this book as there is loads of spillers, but I will say it was amazing and I’m glad it ended how it did. Even if I didn’t want it to end.

4.5 Stars!

What an end to the series, by far my favourite book of the series! It heated up in terms of spice but there was still a good story behind it which kept me hooked.

Love Hard was a little cringey and predictable at times but it isn't meant to be a shocking twists style of book. I completely enjoyed this story start to finish & I completely regret taking so long to read the final instalment.

Really glad I stuck with this series!

THESES FREAKING CLIFFHANGERS!!!!!! LOL!! You cant keep leaving me hanging like that. Lucky all the books are out so that way I don’t have to go crazy to know what happened. Which that’s how I am. I don’t like reading anything unless I know it’s a complete series before I read it. This book I fell in love with. I love the chemistry between all of them. Mercy is one lucky girl!!

I was literally dreading to finish reading this. It was so predictable and boring, I was more looking forward to what my mum was cooking for dinner tonight.

One thing I particularly hated in this book is Sex was steamy but there was way too much of it.

This time I don't say anything about a cliffhanger, because that's the last book in the series 😁

Mercy and her guys really went through so much 😲 This series is full of everything. I already said it, it's a lot of action. This whole gang stuff... 🤯
I really loved it.
I'm not sure what to say anymore. Yeah, that's a bit of a problem with 4 books and not wanting to give any spoilers.

This is the second series I've read by Eva, and I can say, it won't be the last. I have a lot of other series on my TBR for 2026, and I've by now also read more in 2025, too.
And I'm so curious about this one character's story, who just briefly appeared in this book 🤩
There are still two more series on my 2025 TBR (yes, you know I'm so much behind posting my review here... 🙈).

I highlight recommend Eva's books to everyone who loves dark why choose romance. I'm very picky with why choose, but Eva knows how to write it. There is a lot of 🌶️ here, and still, it's not that it would reduce any plot. On the contrary, there is sooo much happening in so many directions. And there are twists in the story... 🤐

I loved this book! There were times that I had to put it down and take a break because I was so nervous for how everything would play out. I must say, I’m not disappointed.

With the tension between the Jackals and the Black Roses at an all time high, something has got to be done. Sloan, Rory, Levi and Mercy have no idea who can be trusted and have to move forward with the knowledge that they have. There’s so much action in this book, as a reader I was definitely entertained.

This is the fourth and final book in the series, and that was bittersweet for me. I’ve grown so fond of Mercy and her men. Eva did a fantastic job with character development and I truly felt like I knew them. As always, there’s plenty of sex scenes and all of them bring some serious heat. 🔥🔥🔥 All in all, I enjoyed the entire series and will put it down on my list of acceptable rereads for the future. 📖📖

I really liked this series, i didnt think i would ever say this but there was too much sex, when rory got shot, when she was kidnapped, when she was training. I couldnt get 2 pages in without sex.

It took me longer to read this book, because every morning i like to read a little bit so i dont wake anyone up, but i couldnt with this book, because one page in and she was fucking again.

Fantastic ending to the Black Rose Kisses

Love Hard is the fourth and final book in this series. Eva pulled out all the stops - with loads of 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥, lots of action, plenty of feelings, a good showdown and an emotional HEA that had me 😭...this was an excellent ending, and I can't wait for the next series she does!

Oh my god. This book holy moly packs one hell of a read. After the ending of the last book with Rory shot, that is where this book begins.
It's such an emotional time and you feel everything Mercy, Sloan and Levi are going through.
Then when the rest of the book hits you prepare yourself for one amazing journey as we see them take on the Jackels after what they did to Rory. With many twists thrown into the mix to get to that point, along with many many hot steamy scenes with mercy and the guys. You will not be able to put this down. What a great series this has been, the characters are so strong and the guys also have that edge that will have you wanting them too as each one grows on you from the first book.
Totally sad to see this series end but glad they got the happy ending they all deserved.

I seriously loved Sloan, Rory and Levi. Don't think we've accepted that apology at the end of this book Eva! That scared me.

This book was going to be a 4 star for me..but the ending made me lower it and I'll explain why.

I've liked the series so far..the transition of the story from book one to now. This book clearly started off as an enemies to lovers trope and by the end of book 3, everything was going great! Love Hard started off after Rory got shot. He's taken to the hospital and thankfully, is fine. But everyone is more amped up about retaliating after what the Jackals did. Sloan is determined to end the so called truce between the Jackals and the Black Roses, but is often overlooked by his dad who is more concerned about keeping the peace. It's weird that he's more concerned about peace even after getting attacked by the Jackals numerous times! And you start suspecting that he's probably a part of everything because his actions so far seemed *fishy*.

Hugh was disgusting and that's all I can say. After finding out the actual truth behind his initiation into the Jackals and his "gift" to his initiate in the present made me want to gag.

Towards the end, the foursome and Mercy's dad, who returns, decides a well thought out plan to attack the Jackals. And to be honest, it seemed like they were preparing for this plan for days..but literally there was no actual action. I mean their plan seemed juvenile compared to the amount of time they actually took to plan it in the first place! And Hugh who has been this huge dick since book one just about dies so easily after getting pummeled by fists?! Like there was no huge drama acting upto it. I mean, it just felt so easy especially since this series was so long with 4 books. The level of anticipation was high but the end result just fell flat for me. The ending was a cliché but then again I was hoping for a bigger cliché where Mercy was shown having kids. So who's to blame there? 😅

But all said and done, I'm actually looking forward to the next series. The blonde woman seemed pretty intriguing. My spidey sense for kick ass women is tingling pretty hard right now!!

What a GREAT series. All of the characters were great, although Hugh could have suffered a little longer, but my thoughts. I knew that the Rose's would come out on top, but the way it happened.......didn't see that coming. I think that a pregnancy near the end would have been a great addition, maybe twins.

I will definitely be looking for more from Eva, thanks for the great world that you created and allowed all of us to be a part of it.

🎶 “Brown guilty eyes and little white lies. Yeah, I played dumb but I always knew” 🎶

Mercy (h) thought she knew who her enemies were and who she could trust, but she was wrong. Vengeance drove her to destroy anyone in her path, believing the Black Roses were to blame for her father’s death. Now he is alive, and Gavin wants her dead. With trust shattered and danger closing in, Mercy refuses to break.

[Sloan]

“You’re my husband, and I’ll always be here for you,” I murmur against his lips when we part for breath, and that sparks heat in Sloan’s gray eyes.

“And you’re my wife. Fuck, I’m so glad you’re here,” Sloan replies.

Sloan’s proposal 🥹 Listen, I feel like he changed personalities overnight, but I do not even mind because he has been pouring his heart out to her. He is so down bad and loves her so much. He even stood up to his father for her, and that meant everything. He proposed to her because he wanted her and he would be able to protect her by being connected, but he accepted what it meant to share her with the others and understood that he would rather have her alongside the people closest to her than not have her at all. He is a secret lover boy.

[Rory]

“I knew it,” he murmurs teasingly. “I knew you cared.”

“You know,” I whisper when I pull back, my gaze tracing over his face. “If you really wanted a confirmation of that, there are other ways to find out how I feel besides getting shot.”

Rory saying he would be proud for Mercy to be Piper’s second mom - oh my heart. He appreciates the women in his life so deeply and has so much respect for them. He is such a true sweetheart, cares hard for the people in his circle, and is a natural protector. I am just so glad he was okay after the gunshot, and I love that he stayed steady for Mercy when she said she needed space.

[Levi]

“Levi…” I chew my lower lip, trying to figure out how to broach what I need to say. “I agreed to marry Sloan, but I don’t want you to think that means I don’t love you and Rory too. It’s not about that, and I—”

“I know,” he says simply. “I love you too, Mercy.”

He drew her with a belly bump 🥹 He has wanted her since their first hookup, and everything between them happened at the right pace. It unfolded exactly how it was meant to. He has been hopelessly in love from the start, always wanting her to get her father back, to protect her from their enemies, and to prove in every way that he is on her side.

Side note : I love that Jen is such a solid presence in Rory’s life and that it is a non-toxic female friendship. Scarlett, Mercy, and Jen deserved more trio scenes together. I love seeing female friendships that are supportive, not jealous, and have nothing to do with competing for love interests.

Wow

What an ending!!

This series was absolutely amazing. I loved every single second of it.

I’m sad it’s over. I hope we get a novella about them in the future maybe with some crotch goblins lol.

I don’t wanna spoil anything so I’ll just say this. Everyone got what they deserved and more in this ending. They get a HEA and it’s amazing.

I highly recommend this series!!!

100000000000000000000000000000000000000/10

All of the ✨

Here’s my favorite quotes

“Mercy?” Sloan murmurs quietly.
“Yeah?”
“I need Rory to live.”
His voice is broken and hoarse, and each word hits me right in the chest.
“Me too.” I swallow, blinking back tears. “I just... I need him.”

The honest truth is that I shouldn’t push the people I care about away, no matter what. Instead of trying to keep up barriers between the two parts of my life, I need to hold what I love even closer.” ~Rory

“That goes for you too, you know,” he murmurs against my lips. “I love you, Hurricane. And I’m going to hold you close and protect you and take care of you for as long as I can.” ~Rory

“I just... fuck, Sloan, I don’t want to marry you out of an obligation,” I say finally. “Just to keep your dad off my back or whatever. I get the point you guys are trying to make, but that just feels... gross to me.” ~Mercy

“It’s not an obligation. It’s not a burden. Proposing to you was never a matter of if, but when,” he murmurs. “From the first moment I met you, falling in love with you was inevitable.” “It was like... like a snowball kicked down a mountain, just getting bigger and bigger as it goes. My feelings for you are so big, so fucking powerful that they could destroy anything in their path.” ~Sloan

“I love you. I want to be a part of your life, always. I want you by my side, and I want to protect you and take care of you forever. Will you marry me?” ~Sloan

“That’s what love means to me,” I murmur. “That we’re stronger together. And that’s how I know I love you. Now, and always.” ~Mercy

“I meant every word I said in the courthouse,” he says. “And I mean it even more now. Every day, I will love you more. Every day, I will want you more. Every day, I will make sure you know how precious you are. My love for you will never stop growing.” ~Sloan

“I’ll love you forever,” I say simply, my voice dropping a little as my heart beats faster. “I’ll fight with you forever. I’ll fight by you forever. Because you’re mine.” ~Mercy

Book: Love Hard
Read By: Ebook and Audio
Author: Eva Ashwood
Narrator: Cassandra Medcalf
Genre: Reverse harem, Dark Romance, Crime
Main Characters: Levi, Sloan, Rory and Mercy
Recommend: yes
Spice: 🌶️️ 🌶️️ 🌶️️ 🌶️️
Age recommendation: 18-30+ Years
My feelings:

Man oh man!
Ok ive read most of Eva Ashwoods books, completely out of order.

“Mercy,” he says quietly, beginning with my name again. It feels so significant when he says it, and I can’t look away from him. “I love you. I want to be a part of your life, always. I want you by my side, and I want to protect you and take care of you forever. Will you marry me?”

This was meant to be the first series in the Dark Love universe. It doesn’t matter if it read out of order but I do wish that I had rad in order. A lot of small things out of the others would ahem made a lot more sense.

“So maybe it’s happened a little quickly in the grand scheme of things,” I continue, “but I don’t think it’s too fast. Because whether the wedding part happens now or later, I want to be with them forever. They’ve gotten under my skin, and I want to keep them there.”

I got so excited when the “ghost” came into the story! I want are read them all so I can find the little bits that tie them all together now.

“What we really need is a dress that says ‘yes, hello, I am the proud owner of my own personal harem,’”

Book4 was amazing! Fast paced and had so much spice. I was totally happy with the ride. I read a lot of Rh and Eva dose Rh very very well, I love the struggles they have to get the ending, and I love the endings.

“But each of these three men fits perfectly to a part of my soul. And all four of us? We make a perfect whole.”

Highly recommend.

This book packed some punch and it was an epic series finale⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was incredibly lucky to have received an ARC for this book for an honest review and Eva has really pulled out all the stops in this one. The entire series is addictive.

Book 4 It begins right where book 3 and that damn cliffhanger left off (which almost destroyed me btw) so much so that I desperately need a manicure from all the nail biting! The Black Roses go head to head with the Jackals who have a new boss btw called Hugh who has a secret of his own that you will never see coming. All I will say is that the ending is explosive!!!

•Sloan - we finally get to see the real Sloan in this book as he really begins to fall for Mercy and he falls hard. He was my favourite I have to admit. There’s just something about a bad boy who redeems himself that gets me all hot and bothered.
•Levi - I know that Levi was the first of the three to hook up with Mercy but I found it hard to really connect with him unfortunately. I don’t know what it was🤷‍♀️maybe he needed more 1-1 time with Mercy, more backstory perhaps
•Rory - Now Rory was different from them all. From the beginning I felt they where made for each other. There was that instant spark and connection between the two. Rory made me swoon from the get go especially with his love for his daughter and the way in included Mercy.
•Mercy - I loved Mercy’s character. She was fierce and feisty and strong.
•Now bring them all together that’s when the sparks really fly. Oh my gawd was it a hot as fuck harem when they they were all together. 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
The emotions, the twists and turns, the drama not to mention the chemistry that was off the charts. 👏👏👏

Wow, what a rush! This series was everything that I was hoping it would be and more. Mercy and her guys start this book out right where the previous book left off--in complete devastation. What I loved so much about this happening even though it totally wrecked me, was that it brought clarity to their Jackal situation and how serious it was bound to get, it made Mercy and the guys open up to one another more and be able to fully express their feelings for one another, and it was the tipping point for Sloan standing up to his father.

There is so much that goes on in this final book, but none of it seems overwhelming and it isn't all big things either. There are little moments that happen to break up all the bad that may look small in the scheme of things but have more significance than other things. Besides moments with the guys, there are certain scenes with her father and with Scarlett that seem just as important as everything else that is going on in her crazy life. These times give relief to the story and balance everything out so it isn't all just go go go. Family and friendship is an important theme throughout the book, so I was glad that these characters didn't get forgotten in the midst of all the crazy.

If you read the first three books in this series, I think you'll be happy with how Eva managed to bring it to a close. It's nice to see Mercy and the guys be able to slow everything down after this and just have a life together. I'm left content and relieved right along with the characters. I know I'll definitely back to this series in the future.
