A TRUE story about a miraculous journey filled with antics of young men in the USAAF as well as many deadly encounters and near misses. The B-24 Liberator nicknamed Trouble was one of five bombers that were shot down over NAZI-occupied France on January 7, 1944. Sergeant Robert Sweatt, a waist gunner, was wounded in several places, including a nick to his jugular vein, but survived the initial attack AND the plane's explosion in midair, which knocked him unconscious. While not too detailed, glamorized or embellished, this also makes Trouble an informative and easy read. A reminder of the sacrifices of many thousands of people that stood between freedom and captivity to the many ism’s in our world, Nazism, Communism, Liberalism, Socialism, etc... Thank God for good men that gave all. I told about Mr. Sweatt by my son, who is a chaplain., and visited him in a local retirement home, I’m thankful he told me about this man.
This was a solid story about a man's experience during WWII. It details his thoughts, opinions and actions before and during the war, how he reacted to his circumstances. It is enlightening in how it shows some of the "common man" experiences that many who enlisted during WWII would feel they related to.
I thought it was well researched and well stitched together.
