"Dream Master" covers Raheem "Mega Ran" Jarbo's unbelievable journey from its humble beginnings in Philadelphia to college and the classroom, then how a focus on video games and hip-hop encouraged a complete career shift and propelled him to all the way to stages across the world and ultimately to a Guinness World Record.
A very interesting book about the life of the author, who for many years struggled to make ends meet, mainly teaching, while pursuing a love of music, particularly rap music that combined his other love - gaming. He has become famous for his mix of music that incorporates game sounds and tunes along with biographical material. He stayed true to himself and avoided faking about guns, girls, money, cars, and violence. Instead, he raps about his life and his interests. He has a lot of insights to share.
One of the things I have always appreciated about Mega Ran's music is how authentic it sounds. He weaves his passion for storytelling and nerd culture seamlessly into everything he does and this book is no different. This is a great memoir that I think any hip-hop fan can appreciate even if they don't listen to Ran on a regular basis.
I’ve been a fan of Ran as a musician for over a decade now and, well, now I’m a fan of him as an author. A personal look at a truly one-of-a-kind talent.
A wonderful trip in understanding the circumstances that created THE Mega RAN. I appreciated the detail in the climate of the times that inspired him as well as served as a reminder of those times for myself.
