What would you do if faced with EMP disaster? Jason Anderson is forced to deal with that exact dilemma. How to keep his family safe and alive while waiting for the last member of the family to arrive. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Aaron Oswald had given his life to the service. Now he must decide if current events are really what they seem, or are they a ruse going to the highest chain of command? How can he save a nation from disaster, and bring it back from the brink? Book 1 of The Darkness Falls series. LOSS - Book 1 RUN - Book 2 HOME - Book 3
This is mainly nothing but pure unmitigated violence. Tucked in among the violence was what sounded like the beginnings of a story however it never develops but the end just leaves you hanging. I did read the second book but it too is just violence. The story line it contains could be written in one paragraph!
If you like your stories upfront and to the point, this story is for you. Action starts almost right away, author gives enough character development to cover highlights and the story flows very well. Look forward to the next installment of this series!
Where to start with this book? The characters are very, very one-dimensional, especially the main bad guy, Lester, who is one of the most over-the-top, vile and evil persons I've seen in the genre. The leaders in our government are improbably presented as a chief of staff only interested in his mistress and an always drunk, lame-duck president who is committing treason in plain sight. We are supposed to believe that only the joint chief and head of the CIA are suspicious and willing to prevent the fall of the country? And the Secret Service and everyone else in the US government are complicit? On the home front in the Midwest, Jason seems like a decent fellow but with all of his focus on prepping, he is clearly not all that good at it. He knows a lot about EMPs but did not invest in any older vehicles which would mean that they wouldn't be stranded if there was a need to bugout. He has a nice farm, grows a lot of fruits and vegetables, has cows, hogs and chickens, but barely a few days after the EMP, he feels he can't feed his livestock so will just slaughter all of them. Cows eat grass, hogs eat leftovers, chickens lay eggs. Not a good plan there was it? Some of the dialogue was unrealistic (“Is that one of you young’un’s new-fangled words? You whipper snappers keep comin’ up with new shit. I can’t keep up,” said Clark"-though I recently irritated an older gentleman who did call me a whipper snapper). Another unrealistic element was that in fairly rural Minnesota, it all goes to hell within just a few hours. Most of the people Jason speaks with don't even know an EMP occurred, but the whole area there devolves into a shooting spree and slave camp very quickly. Are biker gangs really that prepared and able to subdue law enforcement and the National Guard? Are biker gangs that prevalent in rural Minnesota? I gave it two stars because I managed to finish this book which was fortunately quite short. With all of the hard to believe aspects of the story and Lester and his gang's extremely excessive violence, I don't plan to continue with this series.
Oh my gosh this is a wonderful read. The plot and characters were well thought out. I could tell there was a lot of planning and organization went into the book. The editing of the book was well done. Mr. Little you are an excellent entertaining story teller.
Here we have a well prepared family when the EMP is set off by NK. The plot includes an evil man with superior fighting skills and luck. In spite of being hard to get into the story as it is so unbelievable I enjoyed it. The author created an interesting family to follow. Lots of good people die which I thought detracted from the plot.
I am a little suprise how much I immediately began to enjoy the Book. I do so, and can feel the influence of mutual loved authors and that I great. I am excited to read book two in the series.
This was a good book. With believable characters and a possible scenario. Hopefully it will take longer for people to lose their minds, but it is very difficult to say. He prepared for stupidity. Good story!
Great story I had trouble putting the book down to get get anything done. I hope there won't be a Lester in real life, I recommend this book highly. Happy reading everyone!
LOSS is well written, fast paced and shows what could happen very quickly. Even people who think they are prepared can be caught off-guard. The storyline stays pretty consistent and is easy to follow. Just...Bailey? Did that HAVE to happen?
The story was fast paced and interesting but the language was so bad I didn't even finish book 2. it is not necessary to use such offensive language to write a good book. I would have read all of it but for that
If you like action this a very fast adventure in the post apocalyptic world. What do you do when the very people sworn to protect the country can't be trusted. When gang law takes over, read to find out.
From the first page the tempo of this book never slowed down. The characters are amazing in all the sub plots that are seamless and correlated. Each chapter is packed with excitement and S.M. Little knocked this out of the park!
Not a bad story. One is always surprised to hear how soon civilisation breaks down and people go feral. Two stars recommended, as I am still unable to get the stars to change colour.
Grabs you from the start and won't let go!! Some good info and a lot of luck, good and bad. You know the saying S.M.Little? Just don't kill the dog. Ok ready for book two.
Book Review: Loss: The Darkness Falls - Book 1 by S. M. Little: I awarded the author four stars. It was a good story but the events seemed too rushed to be credible. I have decided not to read the sequel.
