Sixteen-year-old Nova Harris didn’t expect danger when she was whisked away to a magical realm. All she wanted was to find her mother, but instead she discovered a whole new world—one that’s at war. With an uptick in the mysterious inter-dimensional portals, Ragond needs every dragon and rider to protect it from the Mythoi who continue to come through and attack. And as the intensity of the fight grows, Nova’s mental reserves are further exhausted from the strain of masking her best friend’s illegal dragon bond.
A bond that, if discovered, will mean Zephyr’s death.
After repeatedly bending the rules, the Council removes Nova from the battlefield and forces her to study Ragond’s history in the Great Library. But the magical books there will only open for those who possess the ability to understand their contents—and when Zephyr visits, they’re shocked to discover she can open every one she touches. But the more they read, the more questions they have…until they’re faced with a truth that threatens to overturn everything the people have been told about the war’s origins.
When an open portal gives Nova a chance to see for herself the horrors that have befallen Mythos and its inhabitants, she, Zephyr, and their dragons embark on a quest to find the truth about Ragond’s past.
It will be a quest that can expose the Council’s duplicity and end the war—or doom them all.
Queen of the Dragons’ Ava Richardson invites you to immerse yourself in a dragon-filled world with epic magic, fearless heroes, and, at its heart, the deep bond between dragon and rider.
Ava Richardson writes epic page-turning Young Adult Fantasy books. She creates lovable characters and drops them into intricate worlds that are barely contained within your eReader. Ava has written 21 YA dragon fantasy series, including her bestselling series Return of the Darkening and her recent series, Destia's Dragon Shifter War.
She grew up on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction books handed down from her two big brothers – and despite being dog-eared and missing pages, she loved escaping into the magical worlds that those authors created. Her favorites were the ones about dragons; where they’d swoop, dive and soar through the skies of these enchanted lands.
Nova Harris has discovered a new world, and it is caught up in the middle of a war. Ragond needs every dragon and rider to protect it from the Mythoi who come through the inter-dimensional portal to attack. The Council forces Nova to study Ragond’s history in the Great Library, but this raises many questions the Council may not want to be asked about concerning the war’s origins.
When an open portal gives Nova a chance to see firsthand what is happening to Mythos and its inhabitants, Nova, Zephyr, and their dragons will now do all they can to find the truth about Ragond’s past and, in the process, they may expose the Council’s lies. It will either end the war or all of them will be doomed.
There is so much action here, racing in all directions, that the reader is almost overwhelmed! But the truth is being revealed and nothing will stop Nova and her team as they try to figure it out. Grab your copy and hang on for the ride!
Man kann super flüssig durchlesen, allerdings waren manche Dinge etwas "too much".
This is book two of the Ragond’s Portal War series and sees foster sisters and friends Nova Harris and Zephyr settling into their new lives on Ragond. Nova has been accepted into the dragon rider programme while Zephyr has been taken under the tutelage of the Council head witch Gwen, and allowed to join the academy as a witch in training. Both exceed in their new roles, with Nova link to Hake and his twin sister dragon Rune accidently linked to Zephyr, something that must never be revealed to anyone, least of all the members of the Council who would see her, Nova and the young dragons put to death for being both linked to a dragon and excelling in magic! Nova only really wanted to find her birth mother, who she found out was a hero dragon rider in Ragond, before disappearing years ago, leaving Nova on Earth as a seven year old, all alone. This new world is at war with the Mythoi who are coming through an increasing number of portals. The people of Ragond consider the Mythoi as mindless monsters, who are coming through the portals to kill them all. The dragon riders and witches are trained to battle them, in a war that has gotten worse in the last twenty years.
No one seems to believe anything is other than what they get taught or are told by their elders and the members of the Council, but Zephyr has found some books that is seems only she has the magic to open and they reveal matters used to be far different than what newer versions of the same books the students are supposed to study. At the same time, Nova has been noticing different things when they are out on patrol and having to stand by and watch the fighting going on. When she times to do a jump, she ends up in the wrong place and Hake is injured, so they can only go by foot. They try to escape a horde of Mythoi monsters coming through a portal right in front of them, but after looking over at both Nova and Hake, they ignore them and rush in to try and rescue any of their injured allies. Constantly breaking or bending the rules, keeps bringing Nova in front of the Council for a telling off and the latest occasion left her grounded and forced to learn more about Ragond, by having to read a whole list of recommended reading! Not Nova’s favourite occupation, something more suited to Zephyr, but when Zephyr shares the versions of books she has found, matters start to raise more questions and some hidden truths behind the war with Mythos. It seems some or all of the Council cannot be trusted and they are in league with the Link Mage, a person of myth and legend that no one has seen for centuries supposedly, but who is also one of Nova’s grandfathers!
Nova has her own enemies already amongst the other students in the dragon rider clique, especially with her friendship with Zephyr ad her witch friends. There are definite lines of distinction between each faction, be it dragon rider, witch or mage and even amongst the dragon riders, it seems they have been grouped by their class or social status. When she is pulled into another portal with Hake during a storm, she sees for herself exactly what has happened to Mythos and its people. The horrors she finds are not of Mythoi making, but rather someone linked to Ragond and possibly the liars on the Council. Nova and Korgad try to get information on those free living dragons far up in the mountains, but she is left with the same sort of riddle as an answer, that Korgad loves to give her. Nova, Zephyr and her dragons embark on a quest for the truth, especially what happened with her father Ayo, and how he met his death, knowing both he and her mother had last been seen in the Stonehaven grounds. The quest will bring danger to them all, but could be just what is needed to end the war, or start another with the Council and its loyal followers. Nova and Zephyr get themselves into a spot of bother as someone betrays their secrets and leaves them in a deadly situation with no seeming way out. The start of a rebellion as the title suggests, but you have to read on to find out what happens to them all. Another great read in this series and I can’t wait to read the next book as soon as I can! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
After disobeying orders once more during a battle, Nova is temporarily grounded by the council. Directed to expand her team to include some fellow humans, Nova tries befriending some of her classmates. Meanwhile, Zephyr explores forbidden magics that, while proving extremely helpful, exposes her and Nova to greater risks. But as both Nova and Zephyr grow in their abilities, new questions arise about the history of the land they've come to call home, about the council who rules it, and worst of all, about the trustworthiness of the people they've grown to trust.
As outsiders, Nova and Zephyr question the council's rules and Ragond's history, which make less sense as they uncover further secrets. Hardest of all, Nova finally reaches out and builds a tenuous relationship with her grandfather, but has no idea how involved he was in the council's conspiracy. What if he's been lying to her all this time?
I like that Nova finally reached out (even if it wasn't of her own accord) to some of her fellow classmates. Making friends isn't easy for her, and I identify with that somewhat. Of course, she still retains her friendship/sistership with Zephyr and her bonds with the dragons. There were lots of good teamwork/friendship moments throughout.
The plot is more complex than I expected it to be. There are lots of secrets, betrayals, surprising allies... Lots of good stuff, plus quick paced action and magical scenes. And, thankfully, still no romance. There's a potential for a relationship in there, but I can't tell yet if it'll be explored later. So far, the plot focuses on the war, the secrets, and the dragon school. Romances are entirely unnecessary.
This is a great series for fantasy readers, and especially for dragon fans. Hake is a great partner, and has a nice close relationship with Nova. And there's grumpy old Korgad, with a personality and secrets of his own to boot.
Looking out for the next book in this series...
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Nova and Zephyr's adventures continue as Nova is constantly chastised by the Counsil for not following orders and Zephyr joins a secret group of rebels who begin to practice old magic, illegal magic. But as always, the girls have each other's backs. Nora finally begins to make friends and joins a dragon rider team in order to compete in an competition between the first and second years. The dragonlets continue to develop in their skills and personalities and Korgard is as fearsome as always, constantly rescuing Nova from the various scrapes she finds herself in. However, as time passes and Nova and Zephyr learn and experience new things, they find themselves losing faith in the High Counsil. What happened 300 years ago to change the Mythoi into the monsters they are today? Can Nova convince her friends, and all of Ragond, that things are not what they seem, that the Counsil is lying, that the Mythoi are not the enemy? There are many shocking revelations and surprises and Nova still doesn't know the whole story. This was a thrilling adventure the whole way through and I can't wait to read the conclusion.
I received a free ARC through Booksprout and have reviewed it willingly.

If Dragon Rebellion (2nd book in the Ragond's Portal War) had not been an eBook, I would have said that I couldn’t put it down. But, since I WAS reading an eBook, I shall say thankfully that I was on a PC vs. a notebook and didn’t have to stop and recharge! Like flying through the eye of a storm, or in this case—a vortex, Ava Richardson’s plot had so many twists and turns that I was having trouble hanging onto this exciting ride, but not about to let go. Ava Richardson is a master at bringing in the back stories of her characters—without losing the present story line. Of course Korgan, Hake, and Rune will fly in with their delightful humor to bring in the magic of laughter. This was a fantastic sequel and I am looking forward to joining Nova and Zephyr on their next set of adventures.
Nova and Zephyr continue to hone their skills at Stonehaven while still trying to keep Zephyr's link to Rune a secret. They make new friends, new enemies and pick up some allies along the way. Plenty of action throughout this book, along with lies and deceit, not to mention treachery, makes this a real page-turner as Nova continues to search for information about her mother's disappearance. Both girls dig deeper into the history and magic of Ragond and come up with some surprising results turning all the information they have been given so far by the Council on its head. The final pages of this book will have you clamouring for the next installment.

Another outstanding read by Ava Richardson. Nova seems to find nothing but trouble since leaving earth. Being in the system for so long on earth made her strong, yet reserved. She continues to grow as a dragon rider and with the help of her best friend Zephyr, a now strong growing witch, she and her new team become more linked with their dragons. But with the Council doing whatever they could to try and rid themselves of her one way or another, she find herself with more friends than she would ever have believed and becoming their leader.

Ava Richardson’s Dragon rebellion is an excellent book and the perfect sequel to dragons link. It seamlessly continues the story and growth of the main character. Furthering the storyline through both continued challenges from the previous book and new dangers. All of this occurring at the same time the main character continues to grow and learn about the world and her self. I couldn’t put this book down until I finish it and I eagerly look forward to the next one.

This is a fantastic second book in this series. Nova discovers that all is not that it seems in Ragond, but not everyone wants to hear the truth. Along with her dragon friends and best friend, she continues to fight for what's right despite ruffling a few feathers along the way. The main characters are highly likeable and the story is well plotted just as every Ava Richardson story is. This will keep you at the edge of your seats with all of its plot twists. Can't wait for more.

I missed the first book in this series, but as I started reading this book I was drawn in. I can visualize what I am reading without trying too hard, I do believe the author continues to get better in this. The characters seem to be where they should be at this point in the story. The plot is thickening and the set up for the next book is done quite well as always. This is an awesome read, especially for school age children or even young adults. I am looking forward to the next book.

Fantastic new enstallment this book was greatly anticipated and it delivers!
Wow what an action packed page-turner the story-line really draws you in and the world-building is very well done I felt like I coukd litterally step inside the pages the imagery is fantastic.
I was very impressed with the complexity of rhe plots and all the twists and turns among allies treacherous enemies and tangled webs of deceit. I had a hard time putting this one down and I can hardly wait for the next installment!
I received this book from Booksprout for an honest review.
Your like a water skipper across the pond. You have the surface down but not any depth of reasoning. You have the prose but not filled. The reasoning. The background for your concepts are not there. You have too many holes of logic. To be believed. The story fantastic the writing great you have it all except. What the he'll are you talking about, when you talk about human dragon relationshipd7what are you talking g about when you describe the rules. About what they can do together and have that hold up to what you said previously. No
Ava Richardson just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely couldn't put this book down. The characters (both human and dragon) are fabulous and the plot twists and turns catching you by surprise and rocketing towards an explosive cliff-hanger of an ending. Looking forward to the finale.

The plot thickens as Nova discovers more about herself and Ragond!! What really happened between Ragond and the Mythoi?? Who or what is really behind the absolute chaos threatening their world? Who can Nova trust to get the answers needed to bring order and peace back to Ragond? Ava Richardson is a great story teller and keeps you guessing throughout this book, can't wait to continue reading the story!
This follow up to book 1, Dragon Link (Ragond's Portal War) picked up with fast paced action that had me not wanting to put it down. Nova and Zephyr continue to find discrepancies with the council and struggle to find answers and make some new friends. The Frosthunt and escape scenes are great and will keep you on the edge of your chair. Can't wait for book 3!!!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was another great read in the Ragond's Portal War series. The characters felt like the same characters I enjoyed reading in the first. The storyline was fun and I enjoy reading it.

I enjoyed this second book of the series and loved the growth the characters took in it. The storyline was interesting and took some turns that I didn’t expect. I still loved the world building the author has done and can’t wait for more. Really think you should read this series

Like all of Ms Richardson's books this second book in the Ragond's Portal War series doesn't disappoint! Nova and Zephyr are wonderful heroines who are ready to fight for what is right. Just as soon as they figure out what that really is. What happened to Nova's parents? Why do the Mythoi act the way that they do? All things they need to figure out before they know the correct path forward.
Will the answer be with Nova’s grandfather or her mother. Developing story of a magical world and the rebel Nova to try to find the answers. Good characters as far as this is truly a struggle of youths growing up. The twisted teen years that so many are caught up in today. Will read the next.
Another winner from Ava Richardson!! Dragons, magic, treachery, and more dragons, as well as friends and bravery! I don't know how she does it, but her series are un- put- downable!!!
And I thought book one in this series was good. I was completely swept away by book two. Nova and Zephyr not only learn a lot about themselves, but also about the history of Ragond and the mythoi. History that someone didn't want them or anyone to know...
This YA dragon adventure is entertaining, a bit mysterious, and full of fun dragons. Some mysteries were solved but plenty of new questions came up, and I can't wait to get them answered in the third book!
