Will she do her duty to help save humanity, or will she shake her matriarchal world by listening to her heart ?
Taryn Bain, a fertile woman from an infertile future, knows the mission for which she was born is critical to saving humanity—go to fifteenth century Scotland, find a genetically ‘perfect’ male, and return to the year 2352. Alone. And pregnant.
As the leader of the world’s inaugural quest for fresh DNA, she faces many challenges, but the biggest arrives in the form of handsome, infuriating Ranulf ‘Ran’ Urquhart. Ranulf held the keys to the territory and title of Cromarty, until his father married and brought forth legitimate heirs.
Bastard-born Ran’s ruined dreams of lands, legitimacy, and nobility reignite when hope appears in Taryn Bain’s fiery package. If he can win her hand, he could regain all he lost with the birth of his younger brother.
Taryn’s objective is clear, her target a genetically pure male. She shouldn’t care who donates the DNA. Nor should she care she’s deceiving Ran with hopes which can never come true. After all, love was never part of her mission…

It's been a while since I read a time travel and even longer since I've been so entertained by a fantasy book like this. I would say it's a cross between Outlander meets Hunger Games meets 1984.
This is an epic saga that spans centuries in time. When the future demands a better gene pool the answer is found in the past. But there's more involved here than meets the eye because one person's past is another person's future. Taryn is one of the top chosen to travel through time and find a mate. She hadn't planned on becoming attached to Ranulf our hunky Scottish hero!
I don't want to give away any of the story because some of the twists took me by surprise, but suffice to say, Taryn learns what family is and what it isn't and when she falls for the hero there are way too many obstacles to insure a happy outcome.
I loved this story in the same way I was enthralled with The Lord of the Rings and Mary Stewart's Crystal Cave. It's written in 1st person and Ms. Grant's storytelling whisked me away.
I highly recommend. But be warned, you will find yourself slowing down in order to savor the characters and the landscape.
This is a very unique time travel, fantasy, futuristic book. The first of a series and I want to read the next one right away. Sigh. It's not out yet.
Taryn is a strong woman who can hold her own when she goes from the future back to the 1400s in Scotland. She has a mission to complete finding the right man and get pregnant. She has to bite her tongue constantly as women rule in her world and she has to defer to men making decisions. Ranulf is a strong-willed man but due to his birthright, he cannot inherit lands or titles. He will gladly marry Taryn with the promise of inheriting lands and a title. Taryn hasn't told him the whole truth. When they are transported back to her time, Ranulf has to adjust to a world totally alien to his time.
Taryn learns a lot about humanity, empathy, compassion, and true love. But can she change her attitude and hate toward men when she isn't in the arms of her Highlander? The passion between them is hot. The fights increase the passion between them.
Power is still a compelling force even in the future. Taryn has to bring down the person who has done so much damage to her family and the people in her world in order to rule with an iron fist. But at what cost to her and her pregnancy?
This book has a little bit of everything for readers. You've got a big, handsome Scottish hero, a time traveling heroine who comes from a futuristic society where females are dominant but where there still remains people wanting power and who will do whatever it takes to get it. The romance itself started a little slow but with the story being so long and the world building needed for such an undertaking, it was understandable. This author did a fantastic job of engaging the reader and making me want to turn the pages to see what would happen next. The intrigue and danger had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering how all this would work out. And the build up of the love story between the two main characters was excellent. Slow but strong. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a little something different.
Loved this book! This is my first foray into fantasy romance and it was excellent. Strong characters, compelling plot, and true love. The world created by Fenley Grant is a fascinating one where a matriarchal society’s primary goal is to repopulate an Earth that has been spoiled by humans and reproduction is not an act of love but a closely monitored mission. The plot is strong and has enough twists and turns to hold your interest. Taryn, our heroine, wants to make sure she fulfills her mission: as a fertile woman she is traveling back in time to find a genetically strong male to be the “biological” for her children. Thankfully Ranulf meets the criteria, but he is not a meek donor. Sparks fly and they have a tumultuous relationship that keeps you turning the pages. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Fenley Grant. Her novel was the escape I didn’t realize I needed!
I love time travel stories, and I especially love time travel with smart and witty lead characters, gorgeous historical details, authentic and surprising dialogue, and a rich, layered plot. And kissing. Fenley Grant’s lush and lusty, Her Highlander Choice, offers all that and much, much more.
Taryn and her sister travel to the past from the stark, dystopian future to find mates and help repopulate their barren world. An emotion-free, no-strings-attached assignment Taryn thinks, until she meets Ranulf, a sexy Highlander who puts the mission, and Taryn's heart, into jeopardy at first sight. This story kept me riveted, wondering and worrying about what would happen to both Taryn and Ranulf right up until the extremely satisfying last page!
