This book is logical, forthright, and psychologically sound. It is a proven way of helping companies create their own to-do list, in the right order, with the right people responsible for success.

This is the antidote to so many Growth Hackers who have One Simple Trick for doing the *one* thing business owners think will solve all their problems.

Felix Velarde doesn't have One Simple Trick. He has loads of experience built on making every mistake and then turning to people like Jim Collins (Good to Great), Geoff Smart (Who), Oren Klaff (Pitch Anything), and Chris Averill (Build Sell Retire) to put together the rules of thumb, key metrics, and standard operating ideas.

These aren't secrets. These are researched, proven methods brought together in a unique way.

And it's a good read.

If you run a small marketing or service business this is what you need

This book is concise, useful, clear and comprehensive. I tend to approach growth formula or scaling business books with skepticism, because I’ve read too many bad ones. This won me over because what it said that I already knew was spot on, what I’d forgotten was what I needed to remember and the new things to me rang true.

Audience: Business owners and senior executives (especially of B2B service/agency style companies) looking for a practical framework to revitalize their businesses and generate growth.

The Good: - A practical model one can use to develop a business strategy that, if applied in practice, should result in improved business processes and results;
- A few real-life business management tips and tricks from the author's own experience.

The Bad: The book is a bit light on substance. The concept of the 2Y3X model and how to implement it is pretty simple and not particularly innovative (i.e. have a few 3-year targets, break the achievement of said targets into manageable tasks, and implement). Apart from that there aren't too many other original ideas in the book.

The Ugly: None.

Verdict: A worthwhile read (especially if you are an owner / senior executive of an agency style business) that may generate some motivation to improve your business. The book makes several references to Jim Collins' "Good to Great" which I think would be a much more worthwhile read if you haven't done so already.

I probably would have DNF-ed this had it not been a work assigned book. I don't give low reviews unless I have many thoughts. Here we go:

This book was extremely difficult for me to read. I started with the ebook and when I slowly chugged through the first 2 chapters (which took me 30-40 min each), I struggled to understand the overall concept. The bringing it together comes in chapter 8. Once I read chapter 8 it's like I had to re-read the whole book.

After struggling with the ebook, I got the audiobook. The reader alternates bullet lists from 1,2,3 to A,B,C and isn't consistent. He also reads every chart which is painful, but albeit, necessary. Lastly, the audiobook has no chapter titles, only "Track 1," "Track 2," etc.

However much a struggle, I will say that there is good information in here if you can get to the second half of the book.

Felix Velarde is nothing short of exceptional, and so is this book!

It is an incredibly insightful and informative how-to manual and, at the same time, it displays the author's appreciation for the written word.

Not only is it skilfully written and brilliantly structured — but it is written with such beautiful authenticity, that it leaves you feeling like if you'd bump into Felix one day at Burning Man, you'd probably recognise him and break instantly into a long, memorable chat.

Definitely a must-read for every business owner (small or not-so-small) who wants to invest his time, money, and other resources wisely. This stuff is gold.

Too focused on agency-like businesses (so quite irrelevant for B2C/B2B startups in many cases)

Some good concepts (i.e. reverse engineering growth plans) but probably one of those cases where an article could have been enough.

This book is great because it’s practical. It actually gives the format and step by step guide on how they scale businesses. Will likely go up to a 5 star once I reread in a few years with established businesses.
