Mark Midway returns to America to re-build his home, which was destroyed by a gang of mercenaries. Police collude to effect his kidnap on his way back to Boston. His enemies include terrorists, a rogue NSA senior officer, a retired general, and a wealthy businessman; the latter wants control of all the Cerberus and LifeLong genetic engineering intellectual property. Cerberus teams in the US and UK rally to rescue Mark, but first they need to discover his whereabouts. General Schmidt and the NSA officer are enemies. A Saudi intelligence team is operating in Washington and they want more than the NSA’s latest plans to intercept foreign satellites and communications.
Mark suffers – he is tied to a zinc autopsy table and tortured. A video of his suffering is sent to Cerberus and Mark’s message is interpreted by a young lab technician. But is it a trap? Is he really in Guantánamo?
The ending holds more than one surprise.
All Mark wants is a normal life. One of these days, he hopes, he’ll achieve his objective.
An excellent thriller continuing the pace of the series. Keep reading!
We see several of the other players throughout this tale, with Mark playing a different role for much of this. The story is wrapped up reasonably well with some unexpected twists. I don’t hold much hope for the future of the series unfortunately, as I read the tragic story of John Hindmarsh sadly losing his battle with cancer. I suppose there’s a slim hope that the other authors he collaborated with for his quite good Sci-Fi series might be interested in keeping this story line going since it’s at least science related…
In any case I have enjoyed reading these stories and am glad that they were available to the Kindle Unlimited readers.
Mark Midway’s life was complicated enough as powerful forces want to use his genetically engineered abilities to further their own evil ambitions. And now, in addition to having to deal with Cerebus, which is engaging in genetic engineering quite different from what was used to create Mark, we now have young children with unforeseen abilities. A fast-moving thriller that builds onto Mark One, Mark Two, and Mark Three. I purchased Mark One, and did not hesitate to quickly get the box set of Mark One – Mark Four before I had even finished the first one.
This is a wonderful series, quite the rude. When characters are developed so well that you laugh and cry at what happens to them, you have accomplished a great story. This one ended in sadness.
Continuing the adventures of Mark Midway and family and friends as the battle personal enemies and enemies of Cerberus. I liked this series and went looking for #5 supposedly published in 2017, but haven't found it yet. Still looking.
