It's always challenging to reflect on books about new age philosophy and spirituality because, frankly, I just don't believe in most of it. Unfortunately this is a point of contention that clouds my judgment. Why pick and choose elements of Eastern philosophy that make you feel good when you can actually just learn about Eastern philosophy and religion directly? To save time? Or, maybe, to avoid realizing that it's uncomfortable to learn about how practices that emerged out of the East are more complex than just "feeling good." That kind of experience could alienate a lot of people who look towards new age to feel good about themselves and improve/heal their lives.

That said, Garcia's Chakras isn't quite like other new age literature. Chakras is largely concise, clear, and a generally helpful guide for those looking to be introduced to the concept of chakras and how they relate to other spiritual healing practices (like Yoga and meditation). The book is also relatively short and very organized, which is great.

At times, it does feel like Garcia is writing specifically for women (which is a bit alienating) but these instances are rare.

Chakras is the perfect book to have laying around at a yoga studio or a cozy bookshelf. It's also, as I've mentioned a great introduction to new age spirituality and practice.

I still look back to this book for practices and meditations as they are easy to find and understand. The book is packed full of information and healing practices m, it can be overwhelming but taking your time and reading through it slowly takes you on a fantastic adventure to self-awareness through the chakras.
