Finley #3

Binding Lies

Rate this book
Separate but united, Aidan and I fight back against our enemies. Aidan’s hunting the person responsible for destroying our lives. The Puppet Master. My mission is to keep my sister and our unborn children alive.

The perfect distraction from my living nightmare comes when I discover a small, off-the-grid, town with a single restaurant. A woman runs in, screaming about another body in the woods. There’s more to this strange place than everyone wearing matching clothes.

Despite the danger it puts me in, I investigate Pepper Gorge; it isn’t on any map. I’ve never turned my back on innocent people before. I refuse to do that now.

With each passing day, more questions arise. Not only about Pepper Gorge, but also about the potential link between my father's best friend and the Puppet Master. The most important question – What happened the night my parents died? Is it possible their deaths weren’t an accident?

Overview: Finley is back and as bad ass as ever. Plus, she's pregnant and still hunting the bad guys. I do love this series. It's got pretty much everything - a strong female lead, gore and blood, romance, humour and a decent plot. I loved that we found out a bit more of Finley's past too.

Good points: A great back story and omg the ending...looking forward to the fourth book - Fortius. I love the dialogue between characters and the strength of their bonds. Finley would literally die for her family and to protect her child.

Not so good points: No negatives about the actual plot or story but I really didn't like Gabriel. Obviously he's the bad guy so you're not supposed to like him but he really made my skin crawl. I still find Aiden a bit...clingy. Not sure what other word to use!

Any fans of psychological thrillers seriously need to check out this series. The first book is called Orca.

Another great book to the series. The author once again brings strong , well developed characters and weaves an intriguing story that had me glued to the pages from start to finish. She brings suspense , humor and romance. It's well written with detailed scenes , moves fluidly and is a great read.

Binding Lies is the third book in Mariette Whitcomb's Finley Series. These books are certainly not standalone, and I definitely recommend reading the series back-to-back if you can. Without the refreshers I noted for the first two books (if you're looking for these spoilers, check out my reviews of Orca and Deception), I might have been a little lost as the story directly builds on the previous book.

This third book was a lightning-quick read. It was much shorter than the previous books, but all are deliciously fast-paced. The further I get into this series, the more twisted the betrayals become! I love how Mariette spins multiple webs of lies. There's no way to guess the twist, because there isn't just one.

In this installment of the series, Finley takes on a cult that is murdering young men. I really love books about cults, so this is right up my alley. The cult investigation was just a side plot to the overarching plot of the whole series, though. I can’t say too much without spoiling all three books, but lovers of psychological thrillers and romantic suspense will not be disappointed!

I didn’t realize when I began Binding Lies that there is a fourth book to come in this series. As always, I’m looking forward to seeing what Finley does next!

Whitcomb has done it again! In book 3 of the Finley series, Binding Lies, readers learn the much anticipated backstory around the death of Finley’s parents and her time in captivity, along with a brand new case—The Puppet Master. And this story doesn’t disappoint!

Whitcomb’s writing is undeniably hers; its honest, raw and unapologetic, making it evident that she writes Finley from the heart and lets the story take her on a journey.

I can’t wait for Fortius!

Gripping from the very first page till the very last! I was unable to put this book down! Two incredibly interesting story lines running at the same time allowing for not a page of boredom! This book is incredibly well written with a balance of suspense, intrigue, humor and just plain 'tugging at your heart strings' moments. This book ties together the plot that grips you from the first book and most certainly does not disappoint! Making up the last of the trilogy I can't wait to see what the author has lined up next.

The first two books of the Finley series (Orca and Deception) was packed with action, twits and dark humor.... Binding Lies did not disappoint!

Without risking giving away any spoilers, the characters showed their true colors in this book which left me falling in love with some and loathing others. A well written book with a captivating story line (and A'HA moments) that made it very hard to put down when the children started hunger-crying. ;0

It is going to be tough waiting for Fortius, can't wait to see what the author comes up with!

Finley is in the biggest war of her life. Several weeks of hell. Several weeks being held captive by two men who are responsible for framing her husband for murder. One an assassin who she had loved once and one who loves her sister. Several weeks of protecting her pregnant sister and her own unborn child from whatever clusterfuck her husband is trying to fix. If that wasn’t enough, there is something dark and disturbing going on in the town next door that gives Finley something to focus on while she waits for her husband to save her from the kidnappers and from herself.

Finley is an ex-vigilante profiler. She has decided to become a legitimate citizen after living in darkness tracking down serial killers where she met her husband, Aidan, who is equally as messed up as she is, which makes them a perfect match. They are two broken people who want to right wrongs.

I love Finley’s strength and love for her family. She will do anything to keep the people she loves safe. Anything. With all she has gone through as a prisoner of war and much worse, she knows when to push the darkness down and when to let it go. I so wanted her to let loose on Gabriel, aka Ari, and if not for her husband, Aidan’s calm voice in her ear, she would have done it. Finley’s expressions of inner disdain and loathing for those who she hates are what make the story for me. It had me mentally clapping my hands. Aidan is a genius with an IQ over 200. He’s selfless, he’s generous, and he loves his family. And he will do anything for his wife. Anything. Finley never judges his need for perfection within himself. The love between Finley and Aidan is so steady and unflappable. They ground each other.

What I love about Ms. Whitcomb’s books is that she has more than one intense story going on. This one includes Aidan’s search for the Puppet Master who is behind the murders that are being laid on Aidan’s shoulders, it includes getting revenge on the men who betrayed Finley and her sister, Lizzie, and it includes Finley finding and stopping an incestuous cult. Yes, there is a lot going on, but it’s so well written you know exactly where you are in the story. The supporting characters are also essential to the twists and turns of this story. From Aidan’s wonderful family of black ops, to Finley’s sister Lizzie and her lover, Eli, who has a questionable past. And then there are the nasty antagonists Gabriel, aka Ari, who Finley once loved, and Finley’s godfather, Tom, who just made my skin crawl. Don’t worry. Finley gets her just revenge.

I recommend highly, this fast-paced and gripping dark romantic suspense thriller filled with dark, complex, and compelling characters and predictable, but exciting plot twists. I also suggest you read this series from the beginning to get the whole story starting with Orca and Deception.

Thank you to Ms. Whitcomb for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Whitcomb has created a raw, dark, and emotionally disturbing series. It's everything I want in a thriller. I enjoyed book three as it navigated through the shocking ending from book two. I won't say much because of spoilers, but the tension and stakes are high. I also found the subplot of Finley's new investigation intriguing as she dives into the ongoings of a cult in the small town of Pepper Gorge. Betrayals and lies poor off the pages as we finally uncover answers from Finley's past about her capture and her parent's death. I can't wait to read the final book in this series!

Another fast paced Finley story! I love the mystery surrounding Gabriel’s past, you can feel Finley’s frustration with him and not being able to go to Aiden whilst he hunts the Puppet Master. Finley is tasked with keeping Gabriel distracted and has to protect herself and her sister.
I don’t want to give too many spoilers as this is book 3 in the series! I can’t wait for the next instalment of Finley’s series, Fortius! I have my copy ordered I’m just waiting for it to dispatch 🤩

Here we are again, my favourite superhero/ vigilante is back!!

Finley our avenging angel is here for the third adventure in her epic series, and she even more predatory than ever before, this time she another to look after as well as herself, which makes her all the more deadly!

We see more of Finley in this book, her mind is still in that darkly disturbing place as it has been in the previous two books, but here she not only seems a little more settled but also more pent up with unyielding emotion as her past comes back to haunt her and the present is causing her so much turmoil.

In the latest instalment of this fantastic series, Binding Lies has a whole new villain – this one is particularly sadistic, they send shivers down my spine just thinking about what goes on in this book. Finley has found herself in a little spooky, close-knit out of the way town which just happens to the centre of a narcissistic cult. Finley has other things occupying her mind, such as secrets coming out from the past, trying not to kill Gabriel and her new fleeting happiness with Aidan and now this…a cult!! Can’t a girl get a break? But, she isn’t about to walk away when people need help, so she don’s the avenging angel costume and delves in, only for ghosts to emerge from her already fractured mind.

Binding Ties does loosely follow from the previous book; Deception, there is a lot which connects the two and I would suggest that you do read the first books to fully grasp the basic of the story surround Finley, Aidan and off course Ari/Gabriel. You need to understand the complexities which are so flawlessly entwined within the nature of the connective plot to fully appreciate just how engrossing and blinding this series is.

I have become a little obsessed with this series, it’s so gripping from start to finish, it grasped you by the collar and drags along its fast, twisty, darkly thrilling journey. I love how Whitcomb has pulled out all the stops to keep the reader completely glued, her way with language is incredibly gripping and the way she builds up the tension and the drama is mind-blowing.

It may just be me, but you can’t but like Ari – or Gabriel as he has reverted himself to again, yes he may be a ruthless assassin with his motives as to why he does the things he does, and true he may not be the nicest person around but there is something quite compelling about him. You know he’s a bit of a bad ‘un, but you can’t help but like him, I like how Whitcomb has brought him into Finley’s life again, causing her all sorts of drama while all Finley wants is to brutally plunge the knife in.

As with the previous two books; Orca and Deception, Binding Ties is an incredibly edgy, darkly witted, intriguing, addictive and absorbing read which I guarantee will keep you up at night and stay with you long after closing the last page. This has some hard, gritty and powerful moments which at times are disturbing and will shock but it makes for addictive reading and I cannot wait for the next instalment.

I closed Binding Lies' covers a few days ago and I STILL have chills. I'm convinced that Finley's story is one of the best-written thriller series that exists in contemporary literature.

Whitcomb's writing is absolutely delightful. Finley comes to life right off the page. Her quirky sense of shines through at all the right times and her love for her family is what drives her every move (from playing the villian's game to letting Darkness's wings envelope her).

As book #3, this story mirrors the capture that started the whole thing, the incident Finley refers to often in books 1 and 2. Only this time, she's got the upper hand.

If there's one takeaway from this book, it's that Finley's family is her home. She'll do anything to protect the ones she loves. And yet, each and every family member is just as strong as she is, backing her up with their own strengths.

Can't wait to read Fortius!

This is my first experience reading something by this author and I can tell you it won't be my last. An absolutely gripping tale that pulled me in right from the start and had me hanging on till the end. A well-written story with such detailed and vivid descriptions, I had no trouble picturing the the story and each scene. The story is filled with suspense, intrigue, and drama and will definitely have you turning the pages well into the night. The only drawback for me was that I have not read the first two books of the trilogy! A great story with well-developed characters, a definite must read!

An epic climax to an already climatic story. The first two books of the series greatly get you enthralled in the story of Finley and give you so many questions you want answers for and this dark masterpiece delivers all in an incredible way. The creativity and depth of this story blew my mind. Super excited to see where next the story goes. I highly recommend it!

This is the 2nd book I've read written by Mariette Whitcomb; she has done a great job at writing a good short story; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I don’t know how she did it. Mariëtte Whitcomb keeps
writing each story better than the last! Throughout the second book, I still wasn’t a fan of Aiden. I never trusted him… I think because he was too perfect. I was all about team Ari. But book 3 - Binding Lies - pushed me to the Walker side. I love the whole family. I thoroughly enjoyed how this latest story came to fruition. I liked everything about it. I know the books are always better than the movies, but I still sooooooo badly want to see these 4 books turned into a Netflix or Amazon prime series. Ok. Off to read Fortius now because Finley is calling.

Who will survive and who will incur the wrath of Finley to the point where they must die? Who is friend and who is foe? As with Deception, there will be some surprises, some shocks and some disappointments (or maybe that’s just me).

I still can’t help loving Ari/Gabriel as he was in Orca, I am still hoping for his redemption – what will it take for me to change my mind and finally be convinced? I think I may be this time. He’s an assassin – probably not someone I would choose as a lover or even a friend, but then so are Finlay and Aidan, though their motives are quite different.

In Binding Lies we have a new group of villains and a new plot. Uncle Tom – godfather turned traitor, the aforementioned Ari/Gabriel, the so-called Puppet Master, who runs the whole shebang and how does it involve the possible murder of Finley’s parents. As usual there is another thread, but this time it’s not a serial killer on the loose, it’s the story of Pepper Gorge, a strange place where no-one is old and time appears to have stood still. Finley and co come across it by accident, stopping at what looks like a cafe for breakfast, to be told that they only serve boiled eggs and sausages today. I was waiting for the sound of duelling banjos (those of us old enough to remember the film Deliverance).

Finley overhears the ‘waitress’ Nicol talking about who she would be married to at sixteen and how she wants to be his only wife. Our heroes send in secret drones and do their research on the dark web, when the name Sevens Hunter appears on a blog, telling tales of strange goings on in a place that is totally off the radar, where there are hunters who hunt young women and it is all run by a group of five men who call themselves The Originals. He is, of course, talking about Pepper Gorge.

It can only mean one thing – it’s a cult. I love a good cult story – ever since the Moonies in the seventies, Waco and The Children of God to name but a few, I’ve been fascinated by cults. I can never understand how sensible, intelligent people can get wrapped up in this nonsense, even handing over large sums of money, often to sustain the lavish lifestyle of the leaders.

But Pepper Gorge is far more sinister (though probably not more so than the Children of God who advocated sex with children). We will gradually discover what’s going on and the link to the main plot. It’s disturbing stuff – even more disturbing than the thoughts that take place in Finely’s head.

Binding Lies' is the third book in the Finley Series and as with the previous two books this one is as dark and dangerous. We have had two books to become enthralled and immersed in Finley's world. 'Binding Lies' is a book that gives us the history of the death of Finley's parents. We also learn of her time spent in captivity.
A story that follows two threads, the Puppet master and if he was involved in their deaths. The second thread is their discovery of a cult. They come across Pepper Gorge by accident and decide to send their secret drones in and research on the dark web to discover the details and the names of anyone connected with the place. Cults are always sinister, dark and twisted places that send shivers down my spine. As does this book when the link to the main story is uncovered.
Mariëtte Whitcomb has done it again! I love Finley and again she jumps out of the pages. Her main love in life is her family and she is like a lioness, defending them with her life if needs must. I find Mariëtte's writing strikes at the heart, I feel this is because she writes from hers and it tells a story that is raw and real. A series that takes you on a journey, one you do not ever want to leave. I am waiting for Mariëtte's next book in the series and am looking forward to telling you my thoughts.
Thanks to the lovely Emma from Damp Pebbles for inviting me and sending love to Mariëtte Whitcomb along with my thanks for the opportunity to be a part of Mariëtte and Finley's journey with the copy of the book.

Another great read! Finley is just such an amazing woman with an amazing husband to suit. They definitely know how to do these covert missions and the suspense and new details that come to light about Finley's parents keep you glued to every page. This 3rd book of the series is just as amazing as the first 2! Cannot wait for the next one to see more missions and butt kicking! So excited!

And she has done it again!

Wow! Just wow! The way these characters have developed from book 1 to now is just awesome! Finley is so strong and just has so much determination & the Aidan is juat on another level! I said it before, and I'll say it again, if you enjoyed criminal minds, you WILL LOVE this book series! The ending was perfect & Lizzie seriously surprised me, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way!

The further I read the more twists and turns appear, I love how the lies get spoiled to fit the books and the characters 😍 there no way to guess how this ends because there just isn't one way and that's exactly what I love about these books.

Finley is badass and pregnant and still wants to be the protector that she is, and I wouldn't ask for a better character!

I won't say that I'm sad about Gabriel & Tom, they got what they deserved if not less, Gabriel is in need of some serious therapy and Fin should have killed him the moment he put her and the baby in harms way! But alas, the book was amazing, and I loved every second of it!

The last book here we come!!! 😍💀🖤
