They became perfect superhumans. But perfection always demands a price.

A year after the collapse of Monroe Enterprises, people with abilities are feared, hunted, and blamed for a disaster no one fully understands. With the truth buried, Marie Sharp is left with one mission: find the person truly responsible. But with no leads and her only ally turned against her, she’s forced to seek help from the last person she ever wanted to rely on.

Cameran Monroe doesn’t trust her own mind. She wakes with only fragments of memory and a stranger—Andie Evans, a nurse who insists she can restore what was lost. But as Cameran uncovers the cracks in Andie’s story, she’s torn between two conflicting truths: the woman promising to rebuild her past, and the former intern warning that Andie is dangerous.

In a world spiraling toward the dystopian future the Talented were created to prevent, truth becomes the only weapon left—and the most dangerous one to wield.

Special is the gripping conclusion to the Legacy of Cameran Monroe—where engineered heroes were meant to save the world, yet the hero may not be a hero at all.

About the author

S.E. MacCready is a science fiction author who blends psychological tension, high‑stakes twists, and deeply human characters. Drawn to themes of identity, memory, and the fragile line between hero and weapon, she crafts worlds where nothing is certain and the exact truth is always just out of reach.

When she isn’t writing, she is at home in Pennsylvania, where she lives with her daughter, some mischievous cats, and a rabbit with far too much personality. Her days are filled with the kind of quiet chaos only a house full of pets and imagination can create.

Her work invites readers into worlds where memories can’t be trusted, power comes with a price, and even the strongest heroes carry hidden scars.

The ending to a trilogy hasn't effected me as strongly as this did in a really, really long time. All these tiny little hints from the first two books finally made sense and it was done in a spectacular way. This book didn't have as much action as the others, but was satisfying in that we finally have all the answers. I'm stunned--in a good way.
