Really good. Widower Alex has managed to carve out a life with his son after the death of his wife. They've got their routine and life is manageable with just the two of them. Then he has to work on a project with Lily Bancroft and everything changes. He's really attracted to her for starters, and that's unexpected because she's so very different from everything he thought he liked in a woman.
Lily is a bit wild and colorful and joyful, but she's also a survivor and a divorcee. She has a history, and she is the way she is because she learned that life is to be enjoyed. Each time they meet, the attraction on both sides grows a bit, and the romance between these two absolutely great people is great.
Unfortunately both of them have some issues, and their issues clash big time.
But the way these issues are overcome are great. For a category this book deals really well with heavy issues like decease, death, and grief. I loved that Lily didn't change how Max felt about his wife (none of that "I've found true love at last, my previous true love wasn't as true as this one" bullshit). I loved the role that Alex' son played, and how being a father was such a big part of his personality. I wanted to kill his neighbour, even though I thought her reaction was very human.
It's an emotional rollercoaster and a bit of a tearjerker at times, but I really love it :)
