Dear Reader,

While expecting my first child (more years back than I care to count), I read my very first romance novel, and I've been in love with them ever since. I grew up in the ranch country of western Nebraska, and it was inevitable I’d eventually write lots of books about cowboys. I still live in Nebraska with my husband (who is not a cowboy), four married daughters and a whole slew of perfect grandchildren.

I'm a long-time member of RWA and RAH, my local chapter. I'm also one of the founders of Petticoats & Pistols, a popular blogsite for western romance. I love to cook, hang out at my lake cabin, and decorate birthday cakes for anyone who will let me.

SOME FOLKS CAN'T SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES

I enjoyed this clean contemporary western story that involved hometown folks of Paxton Springs, Texas. The story will have Kimmee, who prefers to go by Kimberlee, visiting from Dallas to do a piece on the new Ghost Town resort for the Paxton family. Kimmee Flanagan is a dreamer who knew that Paxton Springs wasn't where she would remain—she only comes for quick visits. Shandi Flanagan is content staying in the area. She is a hard worker, holding down two jobs, and is liked by everyone. But, her life is about to change.

Jace Paxton, the eldest son, is a dreamer who studies things and plans for the future. Part of that was adding a new breed of cattle to the Blackstone Ranch. The first year, each of his eight cows has a calf, but then tragedy strikes when cattle rustlers hit them in broad daylight.

The plot will have Shandi learning that the Greasy Bull, where she has waitressed since high school, will be for sale. She wants to buy it as a local landmark; she believes she can continue making it a place people love to come, eat, and hangout. But then, she learns that she has competition, and it isn't just one man, but three wanting it, include Jace Paxton.

Just when Shandi thinks she has a chance at her future, she comes home to her house on fire. If it weren't for Jace Paxton seeing the smoke and driving there, no telling what would have happened to her. Now, she is living at the Blackstone is one of Ginny's cabins on the land.

"Shandi Flanagan was a fighter, a hard worker, with dreams bigger than she was, but she couldn't fight the world alone. Tonight, especially."

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. Shandi will witness a crime, one that she will be able to give information and evidence to the police. She will watch her dream of buying the Greasy Bull dissolve as her boss, Chuck, along with Jace and another man, get together. But sometimes, not everything is exactly as you see it.

The story has just the perfect balance of friendship, loyalty, promises, commitment, obligations, and then there is the angst, the passion for your beliefs, romance, and what you want for your future. Sometimes, you are faced with hardships, but those are the things that make you stronger, and you hope that in the end, your integrity will outshine someone else's deception. Will Jace realize and confront Shandi with his feelings for her? All these years, she has held a torch for him. Will her happily-ever-after ending come true?

"I'm offering you a job with the Greasy Bull—but I'm offering you a home at the Blackstone more. I'd be proud to be your husband, Shandi. If you can fancy yourself married to a cattleman, that is."

"Fancy myself? You silly cowboy, you. Of course I'll marry you and live with you forever on the Blackstone. I've never wanted anything else. Ever, ever."

"Had she ever been happier? Or filled with more anticipation and hope for a perfect future with him than now? This moment?"

I could see why most people in town loved Shandi. She was such a hard worker at the diner and made everyone who ate there feel good. I was sorry her father left her with so many debts that she had to work two jobs. I know Shandi wasn’t quite ready to buy the diner when her boss decided to sell because of his health, but she wanted to try and buy it. It broke my heart when her house caught on fire. I was so glad that Jace came to check on her and take her to the Blackstone Ranch to a small cabin she could stay in. It was so wonderful to see how so many people wanted to help her. I was happy how Jace stepped up for Shandi and the two started getting to know each other better. The ranch had some rustling that had to be solved, and the law had to figure out who set Shandi’s house on fire. There are a few misunderstandings that needed to be taken care of too. This is a good book that I encourage you to read. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

i am cursed when it comes to kindle books so this one surprised me! I liked it much more than I thought I would!! (Yay finally!) I loved Jace and Shandi, it was a lil too insta love-y but still so cute and gave me butterflies! especially with the way he talked to her🤭
a slight plot hole though (unless it’s mentioned on the earlier books that I haven’t read) about Shandi and Kimmee’s mom with the prom night?? also we’re just gonna brush over the fact Kimmee dated Jace at one point? and there were a few too many mentions of Jace checking Shandi’s butt out too lol but..besides that I actually really liked this one! loved the small Texas town and close community, especially the Paxton family 🥹

🌶️clean romance, no cussing

It’s time to return to The Blackstone Ranch series with Shandi and Jace’s story in My Kind of Cowboy. It’s always a bittersweet moment for me when I come to the ending of a series, but this one left me with smiles and hopes for the future of the Paxtons and their brides.

Shandi is a hard worker and her plate is overfilled right now in trying to keep herself afloat, pay off her father’s debts, and put aside money when she can to someday buy the bar and grill where she works. That “someday” came far too soon and Shandi isn’t quite ready, but she’s going for it. She didn’t expect some of the competition she’d have for this purchase, but nothing is going to stop her from trying her best. She’s had a crush on one of those men who want to buy the property for as long as she can remember. Yet, she feels that Jace is unreachable for her – but never say never for things are about to change drastically in Shandi’s life.

Jace may not have the financial concerns that Shandi has, but his troubles come at him in different ways. The setting up of the family vacation resort and the theft of his cattle are on his mind constantly. He’s determined to buy the bar and grill, tear it down and build offices for the resort in town. But he’s about to realize that fulfilling his plan will tear Shandi’s dreams away from her. He may have known about Shandi for years but the fire at her home, arson really, and the closeness of having her stay at the ranch has opened his eyes to the town sweetheart… and perhaps his heart as well.

My Kind of Cowboy is sweet and intense, a winning combination for this couple (and for us as readers). The dangers facing both Shandi and Jace are very real and bring intensity to their story. There definitely are some vile villains here. The discovery of their feelings for each other is another danger to be faced for if Jace does buy the bar and grill that will destroy the dreams of the woman he’s come to love. Rock and a hard place meet Jace and Shandi.

I enjoyed returning to this world so much. We’ll run into familiar faces, see some happily ever afters take place, and get a really good story in this wrapping up of the Paxton brother’s love lives. I’ve had fun here and cannot wait to see where this author takes me next time. If you love a good romance with believable characters facing life’s challenges with strength and courage – but aren’t afraid to add a little laughter along the way – then you’d enjoy not only My Kind of Cowboy but the entire Blackstone Ranch series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Tule Publishing. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This is the final book in the Blackstone Ranch series. I previously read the second book so I was introduced to Jace Paxton and Shandi Flanagan. Jace’s family is well off and owns the Blackstone Ranch. Shandi works two jobs to keep herself afloat. He dad left her with with all his debt to pay. She has the old family house. Her sister Kimmee is in town to do a piece on the resort and former ghost town that Jace’s family recently opened. Shandi works hard and everyone knows and likes her. She’s the waitress at the local bar and grill. She loves her job and the people she works with except for the boss’s son Cody. Shandi has been in love with Jace since she was a teenager. He was not aware of her feelings.

Her boss tells her he is planning to retire and sell the place where she works. She tells him she wants to buy it. She has been saving and has big plans to keep the place going and keep herself employed. She learns that the boss’s son also is interested in buying the place. He doesn’t like her. He’s lazy and gets into trouble. His whole work ethics is so different than hers. She also learns that Jace wants to buy it and tear it down, using the site to build offices in town for the resort. She is upset as she doesn’t know how she can compete as well.

Shandi goes for a ride on her horse and sees someone has cut the fence on the Paxton property. She tries to look around and sees a white truck that she isn’t able to catch up to. Jace and his brothers realize someone has stolen their valuable calves from their ranch. Shandi goes to tell them what she saw and they realize it could be the people that stole the calves.

Shandi goes home from her late shift to see her house up in flames. Jace saw the flames too as he was following her home to make sure she made it okay. They call the fire department and they get the fire taken care of. However, her house is badly damaged so she’s unable to stay there. Jace takes her back to his ranch. His family has an empty cottage on their property that they get set up for her to stay there. She’s worried as she can’t afford to pay for another place to stay. Also, her plan to buy the bar and grill is in jeopardy after this. The fire chief tells her that the fire was arson, someone set it deliberately.

Jace and Shandi start spending time together and realizes that he’s interested in her. She still has strong feelings for him. She also gets included with Jace’s brothers fiancés in some of their their wedding preparations.

This book was suspenseful and also a nice romance. The mysteries of who stole the calves, who set the fire and who will get to buy the bar and grill make for a very thrilling book. I really enjoyed this book, and the series. The author did a great job creating such likable characters and an engrossing storyline. I liked that all the characters were in all the books. The pairing of Jace and Shandi was perfect. I give this 5 stars.

This book has everything! I knew this would be a five star read from the first chapter. There are a lot of secondary characters; some from previous books in this series. My Kind of Cowboy has angst (not too much, though), suspense/mystery, drama, and romance. And guess what? The romance aspect was a slow burn so the anticipation of that made this book not only better, but realistic and believable. Having both Jace and Shandi's POVs made this book even more enjoyable. There is nothing that frustrates me more or stalls my reading flow than when I have to guess at what the characters are feeling. So, having both POV's is a top preference for me.

This book is the third in the series featuring the Paxton brothers. I did not read the previous two (yet) and had no trouble at all following along. This book can definitely be read as a stand-alone. However, I became very curious about how two of the brothers met their future Mrs. Paxtons. As soon as I can, I will be reading those books.

Shandi is the town sweetheart. She truly fit that persona; always putting others before herself even when she had to work two exhausting jobs to pay bills and the pay off the debts her deceased father left behind. When Shandi sees an oppotunity to make her dreams come true, she jumps at it. Despite the fact she has little to no assets, Shandi doesn't give up. Not even when the crush of her life gets in the way.

Jace has known Shandi nearly all his life but recently has seen her in a different light. He wants to know her better, wants to protect her and take away her troubles. Even if it seems he is one of them.

The romance blossoming between Jace and Shandi is slow. But don't worry because there are others things taking place in the story that will have your full attention. Rustlers, arsonists, drug addicts, are all part of the mystery and intrigue of this book. I will say no more in the way of details.

The ending was perfect. The epilogue even better. Overall, My Kind of Cowboy is a memorable, and engaging story with all the feels, and I highly recommend it as a must-read.

This was actually my first book by this author. She has just gained a new fan. I cannot wait to read more of her books!

This is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

My Kind of Cowboy: Blackstone Ranch Book 3 by Pam Crooks
The main character of this story, Shandi, has appeared in all three books of this series. In this story we finally get to know her and learn about her life.

Shandi has lived her whole life in Paxton, Texas. She still lives in her family’s house where she grew up and has worked for years at the same diner. She has always had a crush on Jace Paxton, but he has never looked at her as anything but a friend.

Shandi’s boss decides to sell the diner. Since Shandi has always dreamed of owning her own restaurant, she decides to buy the diner. However, she has a lot of competition - Jace, the owner’s son and another worker also want to buy it.

Unfortunately, before Shandi gets a chance to apply for a loan, her house burns down. This ruins her plan to use it as collateral for the loan.

Jace invites Shandi to stay at the guest cabin on his family’s ranch. This gives her independence and a place to stay while the fire department investigates. Eventually, they discover that the fire was caused by arson.

Jace is a hard-working honest rancher who suddenly discovers that he is attracted to Shandi. He works very hard to help her through the tragedy with her house. As his attraction grows stronger, he is very upset that he and Shandi are in competition to buy the Greasy Bull.

Jace has his own problems. Rustlers steal eight newborn calves from his ranch. Their mothers are part of an expensive, new, purebred breed of cow that he has just acquired. Now Jace must find out who took them and then get them back.

Shandi is an independent, strong woman who has always depended on no one but herself. She loves Jace, but she feels betrayed by his determination to buy the diner.

This book is a fantastic romance between two likeable, strong-willed, independent characters. However, it is also an intrigue filled with lots of action and several mysterious problems that need to be solved before the characters can find their happy ending.

“Make the cola half-regular and half-diet, Shandi. With a wedge of lemon. Not a slice, okay?
A wedge. With lots of ice. I like my cola really cold.
And can you make sure there are no seeds?”
He was only a few steps ahead of her and had no sooner settled his lean-and-tall cowboy body into the chair when she reached around his shoulder, plunked the bottle down in front of him, and kept moving.
His head angled toward her, and his eyes crinkled.
“Thanks, Shandi.” “Wow. She knows what kind of beer you like?”
My Kind of Cowboy by Pam Crooks is a 4 star book.

My heart's soaring after reading Pam Crooks My Kind Of Cowboy. It was the perfect book for me to read, actually I highly suggest this book to everyone.
Pam Crooks character development is spectacular.
Jace and Shandi are such an amazing couple. I truly love the chemistry these two have with one another.
Sometimes the person you’re meant to be with is right in front of you.
Shandi is an outgoing lady everyone admires, respects and loves. Everyone in town loves her willingness to always put them first, but she can count on them, as well.
Shandi, down on her luck, due to finances acquired from her late father, she refuses to give up, isn't afraid to work hard, to try whatever it takes to succeed in life. Her dream is to own The Greasy Bull, a restaurant and bar she’s waitressed at since high school.
The honesty, caring, and love Jace and Shandi share is truly a breath of fresh air.
I'm going to jump out on a limb here, but I think this might be my favorite romantic contemporary I've read in such a long time. The warmth this book brings to my heart, along with the sense of belonging, is so refreshing.
The Paxton’s and the entire Paxton Springs town will engulf your heart and soul, reaffirming, that there are still good, hardworking people with such caring hearts left in this world.
The mystery incorporated was so much fun, I found myself secretly chanting to go look in the most obvious place to find the true culprit.
My Kind of Cowboy was intriguing, engaging, and most importantly, a exceptional romantic book. The ending was intriguing, heartfelt and moving.

An intriguing, friends to lovers story.

This book had a little bit of everything that I was looking for in it; romance, cowboys, family, small towns and a little bit of a mystery.

Shandi Flanigan worked hard for everything she had. She even continued to pay off her father’s debt after he passed away. So, when Shandi found out the owner of the Greasy Bull, the restaurant she worked at, was going to sell, she made it her goal to buy it. But there was competition she didn’t expect, one of them was Jace Paxton, the man Shandi has crushed on nearly all of her life. He wanted to buy the building and tear it down and build offices for his family’s new resort. This made Shandi want to work even harder for it. When a tragedy sidelines Shandi and Jace is there to pick up the pieces, it brings them closer together. But Shandi still doesn’t trust Jace and ends up pushing him away again. Now it’s up to Jace to prove to Shandi that he is a good person and will do anything to make her happy.

I have enjoyed every book in this series and it seems each one is better then the last. If you like small town cowboy romances, this is definitely the book for you.

I’m a sucker for sweet small-town romances and My Kind Of Cowboy, third in author Pam Crooks’ Blackstone Ranch series, ticks all the boxes. Shandi Flanagan, a waitress at the Greasy Bull, is the sort of person who remembers everybody’s name after one introduction and also remembers just how they like their hamburgers. She sees herself as plain in comparison to her glamorous sister Kimmee, but Kimmee is high maintenence where Shandi is everybody’s sweetheart. I liked and admired her from the first.
Jace Paxton has always liked Shandi but hasn’t really noticed just how attractive she is until disaster strikes and throws them both together. I loved that Jace’s family were all there to support and welcome Shandi and the way others in the town also stepped up to help.
While there is the odd villain, this story is packed to the brim with nice people whose actions can’t help but make you smile. The setting in the Texas Hill Country is another appealing feature of a story that left me feeling good inside. This is a fitting end to a series that has entertained from the start.

My Kind of Cowboy is the third book in the Blackstone Ranch by Pam Crooks. The oldest Paxton, Jace’s story is my favorite so far in the series. I think that is because I really liked the characters Jace and Shandi. Life can be difficult which it has for Shandi but still she daily tried to do what is right. If this character was real instead of fictional I would want her as my friend and neighbor. No wonder the people on Paxton Springs loved her so. My only question is why it took Jace so long!

The plot of this story is interesting, concerning normal people who work hard, live wisely, and try to find joy in the everyday. Of course, there are some characters who made bad decisions and have no problem hurting others. The best thing is that in these stories they are not allowed to prosper. Wish this could be mirrored in reality.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love me a good quick read and this book was totally that. I have really enjoyed this series of books and this one really didn't disappoint either. I really liked Shandi the girl was stubborn as they come but fiercely independent and willing to help anyone. Jace was a good ol' cowboy raise right but would stop at nothing to take care of his ranch and his family. These two together just know they are a fun read. I really hope that this is not the end of these characters and there is more to come. In conclusion I would totally recommend this book its fun, clean read with some adventure thrown in. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book is everything that is perfect about a small town romance It is sweet and uplifting but it also shows just how small minded small towns can be The cast of characters is the making of the book and non more so than Jace and Shandi She is the woman who has to work two jobs to make ends meet after paying her fathers gambling debts The woman who dreams of owning the diner/bar she has worked at since been a teenager Jace is the eldest son of a ranch determined to try things new to keep the ranch strong that includes new breeds of cattle but someone has rustled them and the local bar. For him to win his future he has to destroy Shandi's or can they find away for them both to get what they want You will have to read to see

Pam Crooks’ third book in The Blackstone Ranch series, My Kind of Cowboy, is a story of home and belonging. With believable characters who have heart and bring with that warmth, juxtaposed with tension and the machinations of greed brought on by drugs and addiction, this story is definitely a page turner. With so many plot twists and turns, this story serves to demonstrate the creative mind of Ms Crooks. I look forward to see what she has in store next...hopefully more from Paxton Springs, Texas.

This is a sweet small town romance. Shandi is the town's sweetheart. Everyone knows her and loves her and yet she is alone. Jace comes into the bar she works at all the time and it puts her on edge. He is so handsome yet abrasive. She works two jobs to make ends meet. Jace is the oldest son of the family who owns and runs the vacation ranch in town. When the local bar Shandi works at goes on the market both of them want to buy it. When tragedy strikes Shandi and Jace is there for her their relationship changes. Can he put his family business before Shandi's? Maybe they can compromise and find more than they ever imagined. Great read!

Romance with a Dash of Suspense

Shandi loved Jace forever, but he did not see her. When her house went up in flames, he came to her rescue. She was not looking for her house to burn, but could that fire get Jace finally to notice the love that’s been staring him in the face all along? Sometimes, hardships open doors we are not expecting. How did that fire start? What about the diner that they both want? Who will win in the end? Jace and Shandi have some obstacles to overcome. If you like sweet, contemporary romance with a dash of suspense, you might enjoy this story.

That moment when your world shifts and everything is upended. Shandi has definitely had her quota filled within a week.
Jace Paxton, who has known her since they were kids, was there when she needed him most.
Both are strong willed and have different reasons to want to buy the Greasy Bull - a well liked eating/drinking establishment in town.
Can they both get what they want and start a relationship or will misunderstandings get in the way?
A refreshing small town romance with feel good vibes.

The Blackstone Ranch series gets better with each book and this is my favorite so far with characters that you root for, a clean romance, some mystery and suspense, family drama, and so much more. I loved the obvious attraction and undeniable chemistry between Shandi Flanagan who works two jobs in Paxton Springs, Texas and Jace Paxton, the hottest cowboy around. If you enjoy well written, heartwarming contemporary western romance, you will love "My Kind of Cowboy". I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.

My Kind of Cowboy was a good read. My only issue with it was that the budding romance went full-blown almost immediately toward the end of the book. One minute, Shandi was "cool" toward Jace, and the next, she was marrying him.

What was even weirder was that they both loved each other for years, yet neither ever acted on it. To be fair, I didn't read the first two books, so there may have been some drama between them in the prior books.

Otherwise, the characters were well-developed, even coming into the last book first. The story was a good story, and didn't have any plot holes.

I loved this third book in the series. Shandi Flanagan is a hard working gal with two jobs. She’s a very efficient waitress at the Greasy Bull where everyone comes to gather at some point. She’s been in love with Jace Paxton for years, not that he’d know! The Paxton’s were like royalty in the area and Jace treated her just like everyone else until her house catches on fire and he comes to the rescue. Lots of things going on in this story.

Shandi and Jace both want to buy the same building in town.
When her house burns down, it is clear someone is out to get her and Jace offers her a place to stay.
She has always admired him, so will they get their chance together now?
There is also the mystery of who burnt down the house, and who stole the calves from the ranch.

Even though she has lived a difficult life, Shandi has a loving and kind nature. She spreads this attitude to everyone she serves at a local restaurant. Life looks up for her if she can buy the café. But that path becomes thorny even with love from Jace, also an interested buyer.

I really love small town romance books. The writer did a wonderful job of telling Shandi and Jace’s story. It has a little bit of everything in it. It has likable characters, cowboys, romance, and even a little bit of intrigue. I would recommend this book and this series to anyone who loves a good book that will captivate them. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jace and Shanti

Jace is the eldest brother who's family own Blackstone Ranch.
Shanti is the waitress at The Greasy Burger.
She has had a crush on Jace but she doesn't think he even notices her, compared to her sister Kimmee. Can a hard working girl ever get a break. Lots of twists great story.

Best Book In This Series

Pam Crooks has ended the series with a bang. My Kind of Cowboy I feel is the best book of the set. I love all the action and the mystery behind the story that grabs the reader and takes them for a ride. Very hard book to put down.
