Shadow Academy has many secrets… Being head of a vampire clan isn’t on my agenda for my final year of high school but it seems if you kill the old boss, you get the job. I appoint a second-in-command and head back to school, thinking the clan can look after themselves. All good, until the clan is under threat and they want me to sort things out. My scholarship student friends think it’s a terrible idea. No one trusts vampires. But if I don’t help, who will? I can’t let innocents die even if it means going behind my friends’ backs.
I’m a digital nomad (well I was until 2020 happened), although I hate that term because it makes me sound like a wanky hipster. Which I’m not. Okay, I am a bit snobby about coffee and I sometimes wear twee vintage dresses but that doesn’t make me a hipster.
On my travels, I love visiting weird and macabre places. Mummified hands that remove curses, museums of infectious diseases, collections of taxidermized frogs riding Penny Farthings - hell yeah!
Oh, and that profile photo isn't me, it's my rapscallion Bishon Frise called Hamish. Both of us highly motivated by treats.
This series continues to entertain with Cherry leading the way, mostly. With her usually trustworthy sidekick Ren mostly by her side, as well as some of her fellow students, the job gets done, mostly. Although Kat seemed to lose her way toward the last third here, she pulled it all together enough to have me looking forward to the fifth book in the series.
In book four, Cherry and Ren will have their love and bonds tested once again~ Cherry is now head of the vampires, a position she does not want! She makes someone else in charge until such time either she or another takes the reins. At school, things have gone very weird with the group and the principal. What is going on? Someone stole a very valuable and dangerous book that was kept under guard and wards Mr. Norton had put in place. Why is everyone all of a sudden against Cherry? Her relationship with Ren even might be over~ All she knows is that she has to figure out who the actual enemy is and how to defeat said enemy~ That is something that will not be easy to do with several people missing and others acting wonky~
After reading this book I had to take a little time to compose myself and get my thoughts clear in my head before I put them in a review. Wow this book was amazingly written. Once I started I couldn’t put it down till I was finished. This book has twists and turns you don’t know what’s happening. will they all get there happily ever after or will it all go wrong. To find out what happens go buy the book. You won’t be disappointed I wasn’t.
I love the funny thoughts cherry has, her obsession with food and her golden heart. This story was less weird but nevertheless interesting although it was partly too obvious what was going on. If the main character says 'this person can never be the culprit' you know who it's gonna be...
