Cryptoassets: The Guide to Bitcoin, Blockchain, and Cryptocurrency for Investment Professionals

Rate this book
Bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies burst onto the world stage in 2008, when the online posting of a pseudonymous white paper provided a vision of a new way to transfer value over the internet.

In the decade-plus since, the cryptoasset market has gone through all the classic phases of a disruptive technology: massive bull markets and crushing pullbacks, periods of euphoria and moments of despair, FOMO (fear of missing out), fear, and everything in between.

As the cryptomarket enters its second decade, one thing is clear: Crypto is not going away. Cryptoasset markets are rallying toward new all-time highs, and many of the world’s largest investors and financial institutions are getting involved.

Investors looking into crypto, however, face significant challenges. The quality of information is poor. Theories about the drivers of cryptoasset valuations are untested and often poorly designed, and they are rarely—if ever—published in peer-reviewed journals. Due diligence efforts from leading consultants are in their infancy, and few people have carefully thought through the role (if any) that cryptoassets should have in a professionally managed portfolio.

More fundamentally, few people even understand what crypto really is or why it might matter. Is it an alternative currency? A technology? A venture capital investment? A specious bubble?

The goal of this document is to provide the inquisitive investor with a clear-eyed guide to crypto and blockchain: what they are, what they are not, and where they might go from here.

This brief covers topics such as:

How Crypto Works and Why It Matters
Understanding Bitcoin
How Bitcoin Transaction Works
Why Does More Than One Cryptoasset Exist?
Bitcoin vs. Ethereum
Bitcoin vs. XRP
...and more.

Cryptoassets is biased in its conclusions, but overall a balanced and well-analyzed report for any investors thinking about bitcoin investing while still believing in traditional portfolio investment approaches. A timely report for many new enthusiasts looking at the hit-coin in early 2021, although the information will be dated soon and is likely to be superseded by new ways to justify ever-higher target prices (until the coin's prices keep going up).

A beautiful and summarised explanation of cryptoassets. The book covers the basics of blockchain technology, use cases and context for crypto, challenges, opportunities and most importantly asset allocation for an investor

So a few thoughts:

1) Blockchain is an exciting technology and like the internet, it has scope to do a lot of things.
2)A creation of a parallel network/ economy with cryptocurrency is possible but not unless the HODLING becomes more. It seems to be that SV is not really thinking about this and hence crypto flows to NFT's etc (Think of it like circular flow)
3)Digital scarcity, smart contracts and settlement across borders are the broad use cases of crypto and XRP seems to have the most scope. I have no idea why everyone is missing the massive potential there
4)Asset allocation from 2010 at 2/5% shows very favourable return increases matched with huge volatility.
5) You can have many coins as long as the purpose of them existing is definite ( I have no idea what dogcoin does other than help Elon Musk make billions)
6) Storage of crypto is the biggest challenge

The key going forward for crypto will be recognition of it as a security, CBDC, change in liquidity profile and whether it will continue being this negatively correlated once the liquidity is sucked out of the market. Very interesting asset class in the making.

Muy útil para principiantes, usa muchos ejemplos y símiles para explicar conceptos complicados de manera sencilla.

Very insightful! This is the short brief I'd recommend to everyone starting out to learn about crypto assets, bitcoins, and their association.

I made a summary of the whole book, if anyone's too lazy to read the whole book, I got all the main points covered, so don't be hesitant to private chat me for the notes.
