Catoctin Creek #2

Snowfall at Catoctin Creek

Rate this book
It’s time to get snowed in at Catoctin Creek…

Nikki Mercer inherited the Blue Plate Diner, Catoctin Creek’s favorite (and only) eatery, with all of its country traditions intact. She’s kept the restaurant running just as it has for generations — and just the way her customers like things. It’s only on her few hours off the clock that Nikki wanders past a certain old house on Main Street and conjures up impossible dreams…and then goes home to cook the wild and delicious recipes that make her heart happy. She wishes she could whip up something new for paying customers, but she knows Catoctin Creek isn't ready for a change.

Kevin McRae is on the verge of collapse. Desperate for a change, positive he was never cut out for high-stakes investments, he follows his friend Stephen to Catoctin Creek, where the nights are quiet and the work pursuits feel more pure. He’s certain he can rebuild his life into something satisfying away from the gridlock of the city…and living near the fiery Nikki, who captivated him months before, doesn’t hurt. Kevin's decision to learn horseshoeing and become a farrier surprises everyone who knows him, but when he said he wanted a change, he meant it.

Romance is quick to kindle between these two dreamers, but this relationship isn’t all roses. Nikki believes Catoctin Creek is too deeply rooted in the past to accept her dreams, while Kevin sees opportunity at every turn in town. She makes plans, he leaps without looking. Together, they might build something beautiful—if they can just find a shared vision of the future.

I rarely read romantic novels. I have nothing against the genre; it's just a case of "so many books, so little time." However, I will read anything Reinert writes. She always tells an interesting story filled with memorable characters, and I am firmly hooked on all of her series centered on horse sports.

The author had already gotten my attention with Sunset at Catoctin Creek, the series opener focusing on a young woman running a modest horse rescue operation in a small Western Maryland town.

In "Snowfall" readers get to know Rosemary's best friend, Nikki, who operates the town diner she inherited from her aunt. Nikki is as fiery as Rosemary is quiet. She's disenchanted with the diner and her life in general, but afraid to risk everything on a dream. She's also conflicted by her on-again, off-again relationship with Kevin, a New Yorker who has fled his big-city career in real estate investment to "find himself."

The very concept of "finding oneself" is ridiculous to super-practical Nikki, but she can't help being attracted to Kevin's sweet, sometimes goofy, personality. Kevin's decision to work with horses earns him an eye roll, but the city boy has some surprises in store for Nikki--if he can just stop making her angry at him.

As Reinert lets the Kevin-Nikki saga unfold, she brings the town and its people to life. Catoctin Creek is changing. Young couples with families are moving to the country, buying horses, and enrolling their kids in riding lessons at the fancy equestrian center with its very handsome head instructor. The question is, will Nikki be brave enough to embrace change, reach for her dreams--and entrust her heart to Kevin? Grover, Kevin's adorable, newly adopted dog, proves to be a good catalyst in the volatile love story.

This book will leave you smiling--and impatient for the next book in the series.

This book is a hallmark movie in the best way possible❤ A simple, happy and heartwarming story which truly makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Honestly for me, 5* reviews normally have some kind of an intricate storyline but I can't explain how much I loved the happy simplicity of this. Cant wait to read the next! I have a feeling this will be a re-read around Christmas time ❤

The small town story continues with the second book. This time it’s Nikki’s turn. Will her ‘tough’ personality melt for the possibility of love…? You’ll have to read to find out. The characters and bucolic scenery pull you in for another chapter in the lives of this small town community and all the drama that comes from knowing everyone and everything about your neighbors.
