The action begins in the book’s first ten pages and doesn’t stop until the very end. Primeaux says he’s had a positive response from most of the younger readers ages 10 and up, as well as from adults who enjoyed the book.

Book two of Primeaux's EMI series is expected this month and we’re looking forward to another inventive story.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wondering why her father wasn't home yet, Emi was bent on not disturbing her mother’s sleep. The young girl also very much wanted to see her dad. She missed him. Soon enough, the girl ends up in a very different world, with extremely different situations. Her new reality and her home have one person in common, Emi’s father.

With many questions, discoveries, and budding friendships, Emi was not a disappointing read for me. A young girl discovers herself, her talents, and a place where she cannot be ignored; or underestimated. Missing her dad, fear of waking up her angry drunk mother, curiosity about a room she had never noticed, and losing her teddy bear; shove Emi into a strange new world. A world of large plants, her precious bear in protective mode, and strange creatures. Overall, the feel of the people she meets there is excellent. Some are very kind to her in her search for a way home and her missing father. A strange decay and danger are rapidly grabbing at the new world. On her first encounter with the darkness, Emi discovers a talent out of necessity. As she travels further into her journey, the resourceful girl learns more about herself, Teddy, and her father. I love strong and resilient characters. Primeaux doesn't disappoint there. The firm, intelligent queen Vita, loyal and protective friends to battle the dangers with. I feel like this is a coming-of-age story of ten-year-old Emi and the development of the new friends she acquires. Young and old knights, adorable talking otters, and a scientist.
As with all books, a little light proofreading wouldn’t hurt. I enjoyed this book and would read the next part of the series.

***SPOILER ALERT *** SPOILER ALERT*** SPOILER ALERT ***SPOILER ALERT***

For me, the young adult novel drags a little in some spaces. However, the plot and action pick up quickly. I mostly enjoyed the character development between Emi and all the major characters she meets. A large part of her progress happens with the new friends she makes and the challenges she gets through. I appreciate and enjoy how Queen Vita was written. How could I not love strong female characters? The first one readers will run into helps Teddy save Emi from a bad situation. Amoretta is a kind older woman who offers comfort and help; to a scared girl who does not know where she is or how she will get home. The gentle elder sends Emi and trusty Teddy towards the Queen. Indeed finding her will give Emi answers to her many questions.
A brave young man named Arlo joins Emi and Teddy on their journey to the Queen. Arlo is not a very confident part of the army yet, but that changes along the way. Arlo’s talents and maturity progress for the better. The guard goes through intense training at the castle, as do Redrick, the queen’s chief scientist, and Emi. Further into Primeaux’s story, the four friends, skills, and talents are better trained. To match their training, the team on a mission is given tools to enhance their skills. Even though they did not start well together, the whole team fits well. To fight the darkness known as the blight, trust and teamwork are essential.

Review:
What a journey! When I started the book, I did not expect the magical adventure that awaited! When the plot mentioned a life size teddy bear, I was expecting a cute world revolving around Emi - kind of “Alice in Wonderland” trip. But I was in total surprise.

From a slow curious start, the story just picks the pace the moment Emi is in different world. The dangers surrounding her keeps us readers on an edge. The slow discovery of every incident and connection to her dad made me want yearning for more. The journey and the adventures are quite fun to read.

Starting with Emi and her Teddy, other characters are introduced as the story progresses. There are not too many characters. Hence following the storyline becomes easier. The sweet innocence of Emi, her bond with her Teddy and others are captured beautifully. There is steady growth in her character development and maturity. The other characters are quite likable and do teach us some valuable lessons. There is remarkable growth in all the characters by the time book ends.

The ending has left me with more questions and now I am really curious to know what happens in sweet Emi’s life.

The book isn’t a heavy read and the author kept it simple and intriguing. The writing is fresh and there are new worlds to be discovered. Although certain terms can be familiar – in terms of fantasy genre, the author’s writing style keeps it fresh and interesting.

Grab a coffee or tea and start reading this book! It’s an adventure worth taking!

I can’t wait to read the next book Emi Foreign Lands.

I recommend this book!

This was a fast paced story that starts right off the bat.

Emi falls into a strange new world that seems like a mixture of Narnia and Wonderland. She is looking for her father, but along the way has become the only one able to save the land from a horrible blight.

The tale is written for young readers, and I feel like it is very well done in that aspect. The tale is straightforward and relatively easy to follow. The characters were well written and thought out. Emi is definitely a child, and with that comes some childish thoughts and actions. I had a hard time reading some of these (a bit too dramatic for me) but they were true to form for a young girl thrown into a crazy situation.

I was a bit befuddled in how many times our heroes would set out, be attacked, and run back to base. The constant back and forth did not allow for much exploration of the world. I also found that all the exposition and build up to the climax of the novel was a bit much. After all the preparations, trainings and new abilities, the end of the novel left much to be desired.

I did enjoy the mystery at the end of the novel, though; as well as the wonderful segue into the next book in this series.

I received this novel for free and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review*

Absolutely amazing!! The book follows a girl named Emi, on her journey in a strange world all inside a toy chest! Very reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland but done it a way where it feels new and unique to the author. This is a children's (middle grade) novel and it does show in the writing, it reads very easily and accessible to the target audience which is great!

I really felt like I was on this journey with Emi, and appreciated all the character's along the way (teddy bear was definitely my favourite). For a children's novel it still quite imaginative, yet I feel like it could do more with descriptions of the world inside the chest, at some points I was a bit lost of where Emi was and it seemed like while she was on this journey, she wasn't actually moving around.

Overall, the moral of the story was unique and holds true, and this book is actually very enjoyable, I can only imagine what it would be like to be a child (the target audience) reading this book for the first time and being intrigued with the world and story.

If you feel that the introduction you read here is enough to send chills down your entire body, wait until you read these 190 pages.

I am basically numb to express or say anything about the writing by the author because he has just blown my mind off.

Engaging, gripping, chilling and truly an 'ADVENTURER' is what I will label Emi the book as!

From some great lessons on how to develop a warrior attitude and hone your skills with meditation and practice highlighted in its own beautiful ways to how one puts him/her ahead while fighting off the danger and trying to help the loved ones in every possible way..it shall keep you hooked.

And yes... How aptly does the cover say it all....

Can't wait to read the next part.!!!

On first reading the blurb I thought this would be a children's book and to begin with it could be read by that age range. This book had a unique premise of a life size teddy bear as the protector of a young girl searching for her father. As this book went on and more characters and elements were added the more I enjoyed this. It had a slow start but the introduction of teaching magic is a plot I never fail to enjoy. The world has discovered science along with magic which makes for an interesting back and forth as to which does more to benefit society. In the end I really enjoyed this book, think it is accessible to a younger age range as well as older and is a good first part to what I hope will continue to be a very interesting story.

As someone who works with children, many of whom experience severe parental neglect, I viewed Emi as a child in trauma who finds a way to escape her external circumstances. Regardless of whether that was the author's intent, I found her a very sympathetic character as she goes on her quest to find her "good" parent. Overall, the book has the potential to be a great read; however, that was somewhat diminished by the formatting and lack of proper punctuation. A decent copyedit would have made the book much better. Nonetheless, at the end of the story, I was was eager to find out what will happen next.

What a book!

In the beginning, I thought it could be inspired by "Alice in Wonderland", but it was so much better! The author created a world with strong characters and a good mystery behind it, while a little girl looks for her father. It's that type of fantasy that holds you until the end, besides the incredible writing that makes us feel inside of every scene. It became one of my favorites books of the year!

I enjoyed going on Emi's journey to find her father. The author created an interesting world threatened by a malevolent danger that can destroy everything and everyone. Emi is a curious and very brave girl who discovers an unusual talent that can help save everyone. I like that her companions did not always agreed with Emi's direction or ideas and there was some scary moments for the group. I think many will enjoy this story.
