Irish author Trish Wylie wrote more than twenty books for Harlequin before becoming an Indie author. She is a three times Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award winner and was a finalist in the HOLT, EPPIE, Booksellers Best, Golden Quill and Write Touch Readers Awards. She lives in the north west of Ireland on the borders between the beautiful counties of Fermanagh and Donegal with her four-legged family but when at all possible likes to hop across the pond to New York, her favorite city in the world.
Very entertaining romantic comedy, full of passion, fun, flirty banter, likeable characters. The h, Merrow, is sooo cool, sassy & vivacious. She is so independent, she is the one who wants just an affair w/ H, and it's Alex, the H, who wants more & tries all the time to push the boundaries never playing by the rules. Someone said that TW is one of the queen of feel-good romance, I can't agree more.
Even though I had a hard time getting into this book-I just usually associate virgins with HPs and this heroine would have to be the most blatant, free-spirited, sensual non-virginal heroine in HP history.
Hmm..Better ask Lady D or Boogenhagen about that one.
Anyway, there is love from the beginning but we have to throw it all away because of fear. Well, duh! Anwyay, the coming back together-literally and figuratively-is explosive and a joy to read.
4 stars — I needed this after trying to read some other old Harlequin Presents, and being just totally turned off. I think I needed to remind myself that while in general this line no longer works for me, there were some gems that still would. I’m just glad the gamble paid off, you know?
Honestly, I kind of loved the push and pull relationship between Alex and Merrow. Merrow was just so sassy and mischievous, and she brought out a fun side in Alex. The two of them together had me laughing so many times, their relationship just had so many light and flirty and fun moments that had me goofy smiling. And GOD, it was so refreshing to have a non-douche, non-controlling hero. Alex was definitely forceful and demanding, but it was a dynamic that wholeheartedly worked with Merrow. And you could genuinely feel how much he cared for Merrow and wanted more. It was nice.
It’s not as though they didn’t have frustrating moments as a couple. Honestly, I had a really hard time “getting” Merrow’s hangups. Like, I got them to a certain degree, but not to the extent that she would push back against Alex. I kept waiting for something in her past to explain her insane fear, but it was just who she was. And, fine, that could be realistic…but I guess for the level I was wanting more.
Despite all that, I still just loved the fun parts of the two of them together enough that this was a delightful and restoring read for me.
I love all Trish Wylie's books. Her female protagonists are strong-willed and strong-minded. And her male protagonists all have hero quality without the overdominating traits that are too often linked to it.
I really love this book because it's got an aging rock star in it! So very different, yet such a satisfying story! I read this book when it first became available and am writing this review to recommend it to a friend on my Goodreads list.
For a HP, this book was way better than 80% of the series. One star less for the title and synopsis. Because Alex was no playboy and Merrow was no mistress. Just because this belong to HP series, girlfriend had to be turned into a mistress !!!
Apart from that really enjoyed reading a clean cut book where there is a decent hero without any "ruthless" agenda and a quirky heroine who actually belongs to HB or HD series.
Alex is probably the best HP Hero because he was portrayed as a very logical, level headed person even though he lost his cool 2-3 times and that's totally understandable from both his and audience's POV. He was grumpy in the beginning but being with Merrow gave him the opportunity to let loose. The way he kept breaking Merrow's barriers with logics were penned perfectly.
Merrow, a free spirited , head strong heroine had some insecurities but who doesn't have those. Some might find her annoying but to me she was imperfectly perfect because even free spirited ppl have self doubts which makes them unreasonable at times and they need to sort everything out in their head first. At least she wasn't a doormat.
Trish Wylie has penned an incredible romantic, sensual and sizzling love story in His Mistress, His Terms. The chemistry, the banter, the relationship itself will knock your socks off! Put that together with the story being set in Dublin, a fiery redheaded designer and a cool and confident architect who one weekend months ago, fell into each others arms for a night of passion. When they meet up again, it’s to work together on a rock star’s Dublin hotel. From start to finish this romantic dance, their ups and downs, their getting to know each other and take their relationship to the next level is one you will not want to miss!
Merrow is a free spirit, she’s lovely, confident and funny and she remembers her weekend of passion when she met Alex at a festival and spent one of the most memorable weekends of her life. She is now faced seeing him again and when he offers her a job, she actually believes she can put her past behind her and work with Alex professionally.
Alex, is handsome, hard working but he comes with some baggage’ his family is high society. His wealth and family don’t bother him as he’s always worked for everything he’s achieved; he’s pushed himself every step of the way. His family background bothers Merrow as she comes from a very unusual background and knows this relationship can go no where.
It’s a wonderful story of cat and mouse, exceptional I would say and I congratulate Trish Wylie for this glorious, sexy and very entertaining “fairy like” tale. With it being Mills and Boon’s 100th anniversary, this book makes the celebration even more special!

T(3.5 stars rated down for the misleading title that put me off reading it for the longest time) he story is well written. The chemistry between H/h is well written. Though the H calls himself as a playboy and h as a mistress in their conversations at times, that doesn't define their relationship as H is the one wanting a relationship (definitely not a reluctant lover defending territories) and h is the one trying to stay safe and is independent and not reliant on H. h lives by her own terms, is financially independent definitely not mistress material. Except for the title that doesn't quite fit the book, everything else about this book was great.
I really enjoyed this book. Liked the setting being in Ireland and really loved the hero. I thought the heroine was a bit annoying at times. The sex scences where quite sizziling in places.
