HIS KNIGHTLY CAUSE

Despite some difficulties, Kokoro has managed to advance to the Grand Prix Final. According to his choreographer, the key now is to become an actual knight, but can Kokoro do it? He’s never been terribly confident, and he doesn’t seem to know what it takes to really put on a show... Meanwhile, the competition is only getting more intense, as his rivals strengthen their resolve and fresh young skaters begin to make waves. Kokoro will have to consider what motivates him to skate, both as one of his country’s top athletes and as an individual.

This was a fun volume of Knight of the Ice, and it had a bit of a different feel than the previous volumes. In Volume 8, Kokoro and the others have all advanced to the Grand Prix Final, a stepping stone on the way to the Olympics. This volume has a different feel to it because of the vast number of characters there now are in this series. I feel like the characters are both a blessing and a curse. I absolutely love getting to see more of the relationships and lives of people like Marippe and Taiga, but I also feel like there’s maybe one too many side characters to keep straight sometimes. I am forever indebted to the character guide at the beginning of the issue. I remember the overarching storylines surrounding everyone, but I tend to get people confused, especially the blonde skaters.

Either way, this volume had a fun pace to it because there was always something happening, whether it was happening to Kokoro or not. He’s finally made it this far and wants to make it all the way to the Olympics, but he must pull off his knight choreography and embrace the theatrical aspects of it in order to get those needed points. At the same time, Taiga is struggling at times because of his love for Kokoro’s sister Marippe. She’s worried that their romance is dragging down his skating but still loves him, and now their father has decided to show up and insert himself back into their lives.

This volume was light on Kokoro and I think that was a good choice. It really built into a dramatic moment to see how everyone’s performances went and showed that although Kokoro is our main character, he has a lot of competition when it comes to skating.

I love this series. I adore reading it and it’s fun every time. It has just enough cuteness & sweetness within its tropes to feel fun and light but isn’t afraid to lean into the drama in order to build up the plot.

There are so many characters in this series, I'm so grateful for the character guide on the opening spread. The highlight of this series are the skating scenes. The artwork is amazing all around, but especially the skating sequences. They are amazing! There is a ton of drama, and lots of plot threads to follow. I would kill to have some alone time for Se-chan and Kokoro! Could we please see their relationship progress just a little??

Kind of a breathless volume this time because there’s just so much going on both on and off the ice.
Chitose’s heart problems are getting worse, but she’s desperate not to upset Kokoro. Meanwhile, Kokoro’s little sister and Taiga are found out!
Lots of drama, but it’s hard to put down.
Good stuff!

I liked it a lot! Love the series, and Kokoro is such a dork. Reading this makes me happy :)
Don't have anything new to say that I haven't already said. I simply enjoyed the content we got in this volume. On to the next one.

I’m so happy that this is starting to have a stronger focus on the skating instead of just the romance.

Im not in to the hiding shit from each other. His dad is odd. But I like his sister and team mate. His manager is better now that she hasn’t been chikan behavior showing.

Tanti mesi d'attesa, e mi cambiano la carta e l'albo diventa sottiletta....chi glie l'ha detto? Vabbè che siamo agli sgoccioli con la trama, ma la cosa non mi va a genio con il confronto prezzo!
