Courtney Cain can’t believe that a former police dog has just been dropped off at the Curly Bay Pet Hotel and Rescue. Grieving Gunnar isn’t interested in working with anyone else following Officer Walter Cheatham's demise, and now it’s Courtney’s job to find him a new home.
The German Shepherd needs some work before he can get a forever home, and as Courtney helps him, Gunnar’s strange behavior leads her into another Curly Bay mystery.
Can a confused canine really be the key leading to the truth behind Officer Cheatham’s untimely death? Courtney thinks so, but she will have to prove it!
I'm really enjoying this sweet little series that showcases a different pet each time. This time it was Gunnar, an ex-police dog whose training was in drug detection. When Courtney met this sweet boy, her heart melted (just like mine would have!). Then when she heard his police officer owner's death might not have been natural, she set out to find the killer.
Gunnar was an absolute star in the showdown and got a really awesome happily ever after. The whole explanation was given at the end by Courtney's now-friend on the force, Det. Fletcher. I liked meeting that girl Lisa that Courtney talked to during the search for a missing teen and was hoping maybe she'd have a bestie in her. I'd love to see Courtney be able to get into a place that allows pets--or I hope Mrs. Peabody might someday have a change of heart about pets. A great series to binge through on KU like my mom just did. I'll be borrowing the next book soon though!
I can't believe I have sat here and read THREE cozy mysteries in one day. I love animals so much and a cozy mystery concerning animals is a win win. If you want to have a lazy afternoon reading this author is the one to read Now I wonder if I can read another before bedtime
I enjoyed this story. The main visiting character is a German Shepard retiring police dog who was not dealing well with being retired or the death of his handler. As it turns out, the death of the dog's handler included a lot more than a heart attack and a girl was rescued. I really did enjoy this book and definitely recommend it.
This is a great series and I have enjoyed getting to know the characters. It's nice to read a mystery that doesn't always have a dead body. Can't wait for book 3 and a new mystery!
Gunnar had a rough time when his handle died. He came to the pet resucue/hotel and Courtney is trying to help him find a forever home. Mystery abounds as they story unfolds. Gonnar is grieving and exhibits odd behavior.
Reviewed on March 15, 2021 Short read about a police shepherd forced to 'retire' after the death of his trainer/partner. It is the story of Gunner who winds up at the Curly Bay Animal Rescue in need of a home. Gunner has several issues that show he is not ready for 'retirement'.
