Frost

Rate this book
The first time I met Jack Frost, I was eight years old and lost in the snowy woods.
He took my hand and leapt into the air, soaring high above the treetops. Carrying me to safety. He disappeared afterward, leaving me with nothing but a memory.

Nineteen years later, I’ve convinced myself Jack was only a dream.

So why can’t I forget him? He’s so vivid in my mind, silver hair and a mischievous gleam in his wintery blue eyes. Sometimes I can even recall the sound of his voice as he said my name. There’s only one way to get answers… to return to the woods where I first dreamed of him.

What I find there is more than I ever imagined.

Frost is an adult m/m romance between a legendary being and the mortal who loves him. You’ll find steamy nights, magic, cuddles by the fireplace, and an ice Pegasus with an attitude problem. HEA guaranteed.

BEWARE: Potentially spoiler-y review ahead!

I cried ALL THE TEARS in this one—lord, did I ever!!!

This reimagining and modern-day retelling of the legend that is Jack Frost, turned out to be one of the most heartwarming and deeply moving M/M love stories I’ve read in a long-ass time.

The romance was easy, with Jack and human Luca Summers falling so effortlessly and believably into a once-in-a-lifetime love.

It was in the keeping that love and making it last forever that was the hard part for the immortal and his human lover.

I honestly panicked at moments in the story that Jack and Luca wouldn’t actually end up together—which turned out to be totally misguided on my part and was obviously plot essential on Osborn’s part.

My heart and theirs had to break in order to be remade anew, and even though there were tears—SO MANY TEARS—every single moment was worth it to reach the most wonderful of HEAs I could have imagined for these lovely and deserving characters.

This was a truly magical and romantic story—and HOT, did I mention HOT?!—that I have no doubt will become a trusted favourite of mine, deserving a revisit whenever I need a guaranteed swoon-y love story to warm my heart.

Second reading 11/2025
It's still a pleasure to read. I might give it one star less now, but I'll leave the original rating because I enjoyed the book again.

First reading 06/2022
That was absolutely terrific, magical, romantic and fantastically beautiful. My little heart was so filled with love all the time and ached for Frost and Luka. 🥰 💞 😍

“In a thousand years, I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of beautiful men and women.”
“Yet none of them have ever made my heart sing quite like you do.” Jack pushes his face against my neck and slowly inhales. “You’re extraordinary, Luka Michael Summers. More beautiful than the sun.”

This book just sucks you in and you wish it would never end. And this ending ... so wonderfully romantic, I could only sob the whole time. It makes you believe in perfect love and that anything is possible. It is so wonderful beyond reality without completely taking off. You are not taken into a completely different world and yet you are in a bubble you never want to get out of.
The relationship is so easy, so playful, tender and sweet.
Aaaaand funny:

“Did these thoughts involve me naked and flat on my back?”
A mix between a laugh and a groan leaves my lips. The thought of him naked makes my dick twitch. “No. Nothing like that.”
“Good.” Jack proceeds to stir the meat and add the bell pepper, along with a pinch of fresh garlic. “Because you’d be the one on your back, not me.”
Oh fuck.

Jaclyn Osborn absolutely nails fantasy books. I devoured the Tales of Fate and Sons of the Fallen series.

Frost is a story about a boy saved by Jack Frost who grows up to be an author of a popular YA series about ... you guessed it: Jack Frost.

At once bittersweet and heart-warming, the book delivers a "true love's kiss" kind of HEA and plenty of sexy goodness along the way.

So worth reading!

This is a book for the hopeless romantics out there 💝

I think how it's funny, I think someone should wrap protective shield around heart, I think in awe of how Jaclyn has been able to make me cry, laugh, ache, giggle and fucking had me sobbing in each and every book I've read (so far) of hers.

This woman brings to definition why a pen and paper can be absolutely lethal.

“Jack?”
I rush to the door and look outside, searching the yard for signs of him. No footsteps other than mine are in the snow. It’s as if he vanished.
Or flew away.
“What are you, Jack?” I ask, tilting my head toward the snowy sky. “And why am I so drawn to you?”
The wind blows, and within it, I hear what sounds like a faint, musical laugh. I smile to myself before going back inside.

Dramatics aside, going into this book I wasn't expecting much of well... anything extraordinary. I thought it would be short and sweet. Maybe a fun plot and a quiet couple to cheer me up over my sad mood this week.

“Luka Michael Summers.” His voice is light as he says my name, and it does something crazy to my heart. It doesn’t beat heavily like it’s done all day. No, it flutters now, like a hummingbird’s wings. “Your name sounds so warm. Like you’re the sun and I’m the icy north wind.”

I did not expect for this book to wreck me the way I cried at the THE END part at the end. To capture me so vividly where all I thought about this entire day was this book. This book brightened my entire week, hell maybe the entire month. And I'm just... I'm in awe.

“May you chase the stars in your dreams.”

I find such comfort in Jaclyn's book. For not only her characters and their beautiful love story but for her writing the adventures she takes us on. It quite literally numbs reality for me. Lately it's been hard for me, these past few years where when I start reading, the world doesn't stop echo in the back of my mind. The older I get, the louder the insignificant worries at the back of the mind get and the harder it is to mute them. With Jaclyn, it's like I find a small peace of mercy where my own mind doesn't gain a leverage over me. It's with her books where the world at the back of my mind quiets and it's that feeling of absolute peace that I absolutely treasure in reading her books.

I’m fire and he’s ice, but instead of snuffing me out like a candle in a strong wind, he does the opposite. He fans my flames, making the fire deep in my core spread through my veins.
I’m burning. And I’ve never felt more alive.

In a way, I'm frustrated at how underrated Jaclyn is because to me, it's always one of the greats that don't get the lights shinned on them. But in another way, in my total toxic trait of possessiveness, I'm glad she isn't OUT THERE, out there author where thousands of readers read her and opens up a portal of so much negativity. I feel like Jaclyn and her books should to be cherished and taken care of with a overwhelming amount of protectiveness.

I don't know what to say about this book. Hours after I finish it, I still am quite speechless at how to explain how this book grew on me and just.. struck me.

“I’m beginning to see that not everything can be explained. And I need to be okay with that.”

I'm a reader of romance and a believer of two souls belonging to one heart. And yet, the idea of love in the real world, romance in reality makes me skitsh and uncomfortable because I always felt like love in real life could never be as great, could never hold a candle to the beauty of romance that I treasure and read.

And yet this book made me fall in love with LOVE. Made me so happy, I cried. This book made me believe in quite sometimes, what literally feels like the impossible.

“When with you, I guess anything’s possible.”

I don't want to give anything away. I just want to express how this book, was in its whole, the biggest comfort to me. That even when I cried at the end because it ended, it made me grateful that I am a reader and I get to experience such a beautiful book in my existence.

This book was an ode to the moon and a love letter to the snow.

“When it snows, it’s like the whole world stops to listen.”

(To all the authors of the galaxy 😌)

"Is this your plan for the day?"

"Break readers' hearts?"

***Relatable af 👆

"If the moment ever comes when you wish me away, I will leave you be. You only need to ask."

*Some lines worth swooning over:

"I dream of the moon.
It glows brightly in the night sky, shining down in shades of silver.
However, while everyone who sees it enjoys the gift it brings, the moon can never be part of their world. It gives and gives but is forever alone."

***This one is quite relatable:

"I get that way sometimes when I'm deep into a book. I forget to eat and sleep, and I can go days without talking to anyone.

I'm far from the easiest person in the world to be in a relationship with."

💖 When it comes to Jack and Luka (and me reacting):

*Jack be like: "I have to take care of my human"

Me be like: 😍😵🤯

*Luka be like: "I think you enjoy freaking me out."

Me be like: 😝😋☺️

*Jack be like: "It's after midnight. You should sleep."

Luka be like: "Each minute I'm asleep is another minute I lose with you."

Me be like: 😳💔😨

*Luka be like: The spark I searched for my entire life is right here in my arms.
And now I have to let him go.

Me be like: 😭 (my whole life is a lie)

*Jack be like: "You will always be more beautiful than the sun, my little light." Anotyer kiss to my lips (Luka's). "Goodbye."

Me be like: (I don't trust anyone anymore) 💔

*Luka be like: There's a hole in my chest where my heart should be, and even breathing is hard. But life goes in.

And so will I.

Me be like: well, that could be my lifelong motto🙌

And everytime Jack calls Luka "silly mortal", me be like: 😆😂🤣 (every time!)

Damn, demigod or not, immortal being or not. Jack, you are 💓.

And you know what?

Ever dreamt of loving your fictional boyfriend from a book series for real? Well, look no further!

Apart from some cringing love scenes and dialogues (the cringy cover and the most probable insta love), the book is written well. Sort of feel good, sort of some retelling.

I find the characters charming. Their chemistry is good.

I wish this was more of a slow burn romance given how the story started.

Well, I love them. And I really want my own Págos 😭

Looking forward to read more books by the author.

"His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe, and faintly falling, like the descent of the last end, upon all the living and the dead."

okay. phew. i honestly don’t know where to start. this is one highly underrated book that everyone needs to read.

"Jack Frost will be nothing more than a fairytale. For both of us."

this book honestly deserves to be splashed all over everyone’s gr. it’s just so beautiful, and precious and magical.

from Jack..

'Jack is both rough and tender, seductive and sweet. Unpredictable as the north wind.'

to Luca...

'You're extraordinary, Luca Michael Summers. More beautiful than the sun.

to the plot..

'There's no way I can forget him, though. i don't care what the goddess said to him. Jack is part of me—the other half of my soul. Even if my mind forgets him, my heart never well. '

to their relationship…

"You and me, right now, are playing with fire. And for someone made of ice, fire will do nothing but destroy."

and to the relatability of the quotes..

"Is this your plan for the day? Break readers' hearts?"

i loved every aspect of this book and the only complain i have is I NEED MORE!!!

"Because I was wrong. Love isn’t for the weak. Standing beside you? I’ve never felt stronger."

i honestly can’t recommend this book enough to all of ya’ll. this book was short, and sweet, and touched my heart in a way very few book have.

"Ever since I was a boy, I was captivated by the legend of Jack Frost. Loving the man behind the legend, though, is even more magical."

This might be my new favorite story from this author!

I absolutely adored Jack and Luka. I'm such a sucker for stories where the MCs meet and then reconnect as adults, although it's a bit different here since Jack is an immortal half god, half nymph, and is the mythological Jack Frost.

I thought they both had such great chemistry together, and I loved the snowy world that Jaclyn set this story in.

I kept wondering how on earth she was going to be able to give our MCs a HEA - and legit, I was WORRIED at a couple parts of the story, but I just LOVE how she wrapped things up and ended things. Honestly, couldn't have asked for a better ending.

Definitely get this story, I recommend it!

This was an unexpected sure.

I was expecting cute and cuddly and while it was that, it got a little emotional.

Jack and Luka were adorable together and I was rooting for them. I really wanted them to get their happily ever after.

A really good read.

Nah. The fact that Jack gave up everything that made him him for Luka is wrong. You can't give yourself up and call it true love. Wts the point, then?

This was like a Disney movie, an old Disney movie. A fairy tale.

And the love was instant. They met and they were already half there. Which took away all the fun of a true romance.

It's also cringy as fuck.

Romantic and hot, playful and bittersweet, heartbreak and true love's kiss and all that wrapped up in a nostalgic small town romance with a sprinkle of fairytale – how was I supposed to resist a story like that. It's one of those stories without the need of action. There is no mystery to solve, no evil to conquer and no family to be found. It's everything it has to be, just a small boy saved by a folktale character who for the next 16 years can't forget Jack Frost, even makes him the hero of a successful YA series but grows to believe that it never really happened. After the end of another failed relationship because he wasn't invested enough and to overcome a writers block, he returns to the cabin where everything started, just to experience that that event wasn't the dream of a small boy and that his not-so-imaginative friend was also not able to forget him.

Suppose I wouldn't be me if I nevertheless have a slight niggle. I wouldn't have needed the epilogue. The end was perfect as it is however I can see that other readers enjoy such a wrap up but what I wasn't so fond of was linking Jack Frost to greek mythology. The fairytale quality suffered from that decision and it wasn't really necessary.

A bit of magic, a bit of angst, with a dash of sweetness and whole lotta love.
I adored this book. It's like a palate cleanser, when you crave something sweet and fluffy to lift up your spirits.

****SPOILER FREE REVIEW****
****HIGHY RECOMMENDED NYMPHS****

This is a loose MM retelling of the fairytale of Jack Frost and I was on it like white on rice.

What I loved:
- The Characters...
Jack Frost was magical and ethereal, but he was also delightful and relatable. He was mortal in his feelings and immortal with his duties. He was like a little kid who couldn't get the cookie he so desperately wanted, which made him endearing. #ComeFlyWithMe

Luca Summers has dreamt of Frost since childhood, after he had a traumatic incident. He channeled his dreams and obsession into writing a series about him. #AWhisperInMyEar

- The Plot...
Luca lost his muse after writing his latest book, so he goes back to the cabin where his dreams always start in search of inspiration. What he doesn't expect is finding the real deal instead. with it comes inspiration, happiness, lust and love. #BetterThanMyDreams

- The Romance...
It was as sweet as the treats Luca made for Jack. These men had a connection set in stone, and even through years of separation, they found each other again. They make the best of what they were dealt, connection, having adventures, and generally just "being", even though they couldn't have all of what they wanted. #TimeHasNoMeaning

- The Heat...
Umm.... It was HOT.... Let's just say that Jack has a few tricks up his sleeve. #ThatIsAll

- The HEA...
It isn't easy. It takes a lot out of both men to get there... but ultimately they do and it is just as sweet as the whole book. #ImmortalLove

2.5 rounded down

This was a fine and generically enjoyable read, if occasionally a bit saccharine and predictable. I actually thought there were WAY too many sex scenes (particularly as, despite the early assertions that they're both vers, all but one ended up the same way, and with little variation in terms of other sex acts) and not quite enough actual romantic development. Honestly, I got what I expected here, even if I'd have liked something with a bit more substance.

"Haven't you heard? I'm Jack Frost. At night, I paint the world in ice and snow and create fernlike spirals on frosted windowpanes."

(4.25/5*) This was such a sweet, enjoyable story! Although I've never been one to buddy read books, my pal @albireotales (IG handle) has somehow already suffered with me through two. And, exactly like with 'A Silent Night' in Christmas, we're so happy that we chose this book. It's got beautiful quotes, funny moments, a very sweet romance, and our hearts forevermore.

"Your name sounds so warm. Like you're the sun and I'm the icy north wind."

Luka Summers is a young man who, as a child, got lost in the forest and nearly died. He didn't, though, for Jack Frost was there to save him and bring him back home. Nineteen years have passed since then, and Luka has never been able to let go of Jack Frost. His bestselling young adult series features Jack as the main character, and as his boyfriend says, everyone seems to be second-best to the ice spirit he's been captivated by for so long. After a few weeks spent in a writer's block, Luka decides to go back to the forest cabin his parents rented when he was a child--the cabin to which Jack Frost took him back--, to see whether it will help him get inspired again. And inspired he does get..., for Jack Frost turns out to be so much more than a childhood memory. He's real. He's there. And Luka is soon hopelessly in love with him.

"May you chase the stars in your dreams."

"Frost" was such an easy, enjoyable read! Even though it's not that long to begin with (182 pages), I literally flew through the story. Jaclyn's prose flows beautifully, and the only difficult thing about it was tearing my eyes away from the Kindle to do..., well, everything non-reader human beings do. Despite its title, this story kept me warm, and brought much-needed smiles to my lips.

"My soul knew you, even though it took my brain a while to catch up."

Luka and Jack make such a sweet couple! Really! Although it reads a little like instalove at first, as they're quite attracted to each other from the start, it's still believable and very cute. How am I expected not to melt every time Jack calls Luka "little light"!? Both of them feel strongly about the other, and even if there are reasons why they shouldn't get too involved with each other, neither wants to be the one to stop the incredible feelings between them. By the end, I was sobbing like a fool, and before that I was texting @albireotales (IG handle) all-caps messages, crying stickers, and pics of my favourite scenes. (She's earned her V.I.P. pass to Heaven with me, guys)

"Magic. You don't have to understand it for it to be real."

Regarding worldbuilding, I quite enjoyed the way Joclyn Osborn reimagined, and told, Jack's story. Ancient Greek mythology was blended in, in a way that made me so happy! FINALLY someone who doesn't ignore Anteros' existence, even if he's simply mentioned (I have a soft spot for Anteros). There wasn't any excess of info, but enough was provided to let the reader understand Jack's origin, as well as to weave certain elements into the plot.

"I dream of the moon. It glows brightly in the night sky, shining down in shades of silver. However, while everyone who sees it enjoys the gift it brings, the moon can never be part of their world. It gives and gives, but is forever alone."

All in all, I really enjoyed "Frost". Think about your favourite fluff and comfort fanfiction--"Frost" will make you feel as giddy, happy, and warm inside. I know I'll read everything else this author has written, because if her prose and her imagination already captivated me with a novella, it blows my mind to imagine what a lengthier story will do. By @albireotales' recommendation, I've got my eyes set on "Axios"! Don't miss the chance to read this one, guys. Treat your heart and your fan feels.

"Yor years, you've let me keep my wings. And now I'm giving you yours."

This was wonderfully melancholy and divinely sexy at the same time. I adore this book so much!! My heart was completely full by the end.

Jack

The first book in quite some time that made me cry.
As a child Luka is saved by Jack Frost and always has him in the back of his mind.
Grown up and a successful author, writers block has him heading back to where it started.
Jack finds him again and they fall in love.
I loved absolutely everything about this, even when I kinda knew what would happen. The writing and characterisation were great. It's impossible not to love Jack. One for a re-read

I just finished this book and sit here balling my eyes out trying to think of how to put my feelings into words for this review. This book was amazing and magical. These boys are buried deep within my heart.

Jack is playful, tender, sweet, and I could just go on and on how much I loved him. Affection seems to overwhelm him because all he wants is eternal love and someone to share it with even though he can’t.

Luka is a writer and is drawn to Jack Frost because of a “dream” he has when he is a child. Luka has never been successful with relationships because his draw to Jack Frost doesn’t allow him to move on with anyone else.

I felt everything though this whole book. I felt their connection, their love, every touch and emotion. I went on an emotional rollercoaster with them.

Jaclyn description of Jack puts such a beautiful image in your head. Her description of the location as well made me feel like I was in the book and on the ride with the boys. .

I am not doing this review enough justice because I am speechless. I need to jump back in and reread it because I can’t let them go.

Frost by Jaclyn Osborn is the love story of the mythical Jack Frost and human Luka Summers. (Sidenote: I love their surnames)

Being the personification of all things winter has its perks but it can also be lonely. Jack is immortal; meaning he was to watch the mortals he love pass. He has this at the forefront of his mind when he meets Luka, but he can't fight the connection between them.

The majority of Frost takes place in a snowy cabin in the woods. It provides the perfect backdrop for Luka and Jack's love to bloom. Although, Jack's ice cave does not seem even remotely comfy, for Luka at least 😂.

I was surprised at how emotional this got. With Jack's immortality getting between them; and then with the solution that'll let them be together but at a high cost. I'm being vague because I don't want to spoil, but just know it'll hit you in the feels!

FROST was a really sweet and emotional romance. While it technically takes place right after Christmas, it definitely has a holiday feel with its winter landscapes and the magic of the holidays. When Luka was a child he gets lost in the woods and is rescued by Jack Frost but as time goes by he assumes it was just a dream. 19 years later and Luka visits the cabin where he got lost and finds Jack again.

Together these two were so sweet and playful and loving. As a half gold, half nymph Jack is used to the loneliness of his immortal life but there's something about Luka that draws and captivates him. Luka has always felt connected to the myth of Jack Frost and now that he knows it's real he finds himself already falling in love. Luka has such a tender heart and I hated seeing him worrying and hurting over what seems like an inevitable end to their winter fling. The beginning of FROST started out a bit slow for me but it quickly picked up and ended up being really beautiful.

Luca met Jack Frost years ago, when he was a child and Jack saved him from certain death. Through the years he convinced himself that it was a dream, a fantasy, and these days he is making a living by writing YA stories featuring Jack Frost. Then one day, he actually met Jack Frost again, but their time is limited, because Winter is almost over, and so is Luca's time with him.

Reading this book was weird for me. For about the first half of the book, I was a bit bored, and almost DNF. Don't know why, the story did not grip me. I forgot about it for about a month, started reading again... and LOVED it. Yeah. I don't know what happened. A reader is a fickle thing for sure. So I am giving it four stars, as I loved the second half (and would probably love this first half too if I read it now, who knows!!)

Great book, recommended!

This book is my new personality trait.

“I never forgot you, little light,” Jack whispers against my mouth. “Never.”

Screaming. Crying. Sleeping on the highway.

This book is total YA vibes with adult spice. Luka is a YA authors so it makes sense. It felt like it was a YA story line but boy to they be f*ckin. Everywhere. All the time and then they’re just the freaking sweetest outside of that.

I ate this up. It’s just phenomenal.

"I’ve always loved winter. And now I know why."

It's the holiday season and that means I'm making my way through some holiday/ winter themed reads. When I started Frost I had no idea the emotional rollercoaster I was in for. I knew it was a Jack Frost retelling, but I was not ready for this beautiful story full of longing, heartache, and love. From their first meeting when Luka was 8 years old, there was something that wouldn't let them forget each other. 19 years go by before they meet again, but when they do, nothing can stop their instant connection. No matter how hard they try, Jack and Luka can't shake their rapidly developing feelings. Unfortunately, there is a BIG problem: While Luka is human, Jack is an immortal being. Luka will age and eventually die, while Jack will stay frozen in time just as he is.

"He really is like a snowflake. Beautiful. Unique. But impossible to keep."

The impossibility of their relationship certainly put up a hurdle to the romance. And what a romance it was. Their time together was passionate, and it was also incredibly beautiful. Jack truly had a way with words. There were multiple swoony moments...and then there were moments that brought tears to my eyes. I swear I could feel an echo in my own heart of the agony Luka was in knowing he'd have to let Jack go, that the longer they stayed together, the harder it would be when it came time to say goodbye.

“Don’t forget me, little light.”

I spent the second half of the book wondering if there was even going to be an HEA. How could there be? There seemed to be too much stacked against them. I had no idea how they were going to be able to make it work, but I just knew they had to. There was no way I would accept that their goodbyes had to be forever.

I gave this book 5 stars because any book that can invoke enough emotion to make me cry deserves that rating. I'm not going to tell you how it ends. I'm going to let you read this truly unique love story and find out for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
