About the author

Tom is the author and draws the original sketches for all the Stick Dog stories. He lives in Chicago with his wife, daughter and son. They also have a dog named Shadow. Tom did not want to name the dog Shadow. He wanted to name him ‘Put Your Shirt On.’ It’s a long story. Sometimes when Tom is visiting schools, he shares the story.

Tom’s first jobs out of college were in politics. He worked for U.S. Senator John Glenn and as the Chief Speechwriter for the Governor of Ohio. He has also worked in marketing and advertising. He likes writing books for kids a lot more than writing speeches and other things for grown-ups. He thinks kids are way smarter than grown-ups.

He LOVES writing the Stick Dog adventures.

This book is the fourth heartwarming installment of the "Stick Dog" series. This volume follows Stick Dog and his friends on a hot day. They are playing in a sprinkler when they hear an Ice Cream Truck coming. The humans leave melted ice cream everywhere, which is SOOOOO GOOD! So good, in fact, that they would hijack the ice cream truck just to get more! 5 OUT OF 5!!!!!

This is a wonderful series for kids (and easily entertained adults). It's cute and funny with silly art and great vocabulary. Despite it's obvious silliness, this series is one of the more intelligent offerings for this age group. It's worked well for my reluctant readers - especially my 8-year-old who is competent at reading but hates doing it. We read this book together, alternating pages. It's been fun to laugh together and try to predict how the dogs will achieve their various food acquiring conquests. The clever writing and dialog are perfect for practicing reading expression.

In this installment, Stick dog and his pals go looking for a way to cool off on a very hot day. They find a sprinkler and discover ice cream. Solutions (both outrageous and intelligent) are proposed, problems are solved, and fun is had by all.

This is book #4 in the Stick Dog series. The main characters are the same: Poo-Poo, Karen, Mutt, Stripes, and Stick Dog. In this story the dogs are trying to get some relief from the heat. Poo-Poo uses her "special" nose to find water and the dogs get confused by a sprinkler, thinking that the "water machine" is attacking them. Then the reader learns that, according to the author, dogs can read. After hearing music, the dogs discover some "rainbow puddles" (ice cream drips) and are determined to get more so they start following the ice cream truck. Of course, Stick Dog's friends have some crazy plans to get more ice cream, but in the end, it is Stick Dog who is able to implement his plan and get lots of ice cream for his friends.

What are those multi-colored puddles on the ground? Oh my gosh! They taste so good. Stick Dog and his buddies have to get some more of that ice cream.

A great addition in this children's series. The dogs are hilarious in coming up with plans to get the ice cream. My seven year old son loves this series.

Loved this book. Stick Dog is epic, and we laugh so much at storytime we practically fall off the bed. One of my fave current authors for this age group. My 7 year old said 'I really like the way the author doesn't think we can't read well, and still puts in long words.'

My students love these so I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I do like that there is a problem in the book that needs solving and the Stick Dog and friends give details to the kids to help them solve it. It was a slow book for me, but it's not written for me.

This was a wonderfully silly book to read to my kids little by little each night. Stick Dog and 3 of his friends try to figure out how to get the ice cream from and ice cream truck on such a hot day. Good book for children just getting into chapter books.
