David Ash is the publisher and poet behind the Haiku for Life series. He first learned about haiku in sixth grade and his undergraduate degree in English Literature from Georgetown University focused on 20th century poets such as e.e. cummings and T.S. Eliot. Ash later earned a Masters in Liturgical Music from Santa Clara University. He has been a clerk, secretary, teleprompter typist, financial paraplanner, proposal writer, newspaper columnist, ad rep, newsletter editor, and art gallery owner. He was also a music and/or liturgy director at various Catholic parishes for 17 years and is still a composer and hymn writer. He is an unabashed punster, and it shows in his haiku. Ash's first book of haiku was published when he was almost the age that Basho was when he died. He lives in Mukilteo. Washington with his wife and son."

This book is a solid, beginner-friendly guide for anyone who wants to start investing or simply get clarity on what they want to do with their financial life. It covers the fundamentals in a simple, practical way: save consistently, control expenses, grow your money, protect your wealth from losses, aim for home ownership, and keep increasing your earning power.
One thing I appreciated is how it reminds you that you’re not defined by your past — and that what matters most isn’t what you have, but what you do with what you have. I also liked the “bank of experience” idea: small, consistent deposits into education and training eventually give you the ability to make a big withdrawal when opportunity shows up.
That said, while many points are great (especially if you’re hearing them for the first time), parts of the book also touch on more advanced investments. Overall it’s good — but I would’ve liked more analysis and more thorough explanations in places, to help the reader go deeper and connect the ideas with real-world decision making

Great read educational and eye opening.

Right before reading this I read the psychology of money and thought it was one of the best financial books I have read….who knew that the next book I read (this one) would be better? This doesn’t just give tips, ideas and reminders of what most of us more experienced with age should have learned through life, it also adds that human element and makes it relatable. I couldn’t put it down.

I wish I'd read this book 20 years ago (though there's still so much I'm excited to implement). I've bought copies for my nieces so I can help them set a strong foundation and benefit from these critical wealth-building, money-management principles.

Every Canadian (and American...actually anyone, ever) needs to read this book.

Clean, concise, well organized and laid out and great chapter summaries. Lots of references and paths to more books to go deeper. Why are these concepts not taught in high school?

Super accessible and simple truths - this book is truly a must-read and I will be buying copies for my boys.

Good

This book was a good easy read. I was hoping for more information but overall I enjoyed it.
Validated what I have already been doing.
Would have been a better read if I read it when I was in debt and didn’t know what to do about/with money.

It was very helpful. It talked about Warren Buffett and some of those others who are very influential in the world of finance and investing. It helped me to gain a better understanding of those who want to invest and work in the world of finance.
