Julia Justiss grew up breathing the scent of sea air near the colonial town of Annapolis, Maryland, a fact responsible for two of her life-long passions: sailors and history! By age twelve she was a junior tour guide for Historic Annapolis, conducting visitors on walking tours through the city that was a hotbed of revolutionary fervor. (Annapolis hosted its own tea party, dispensing with the cargo aboard the "Peggy Stewart," and was briefly capital of the United States.) She also took tourists through Annapolis's other big attraction, the United States Naval Academy. After so many years of observing future naval officers at P-rade and chapel, it seemed almost inevitable that she eventually married one.

But long before embarking on romantic adventures of her own, she read about them, transporting herself to such favorite venues as ancient Egypt, World War II submarine patrols, the Old South and, of course, Regency England. Soon she was keeping notebooks for jotting down story ideas. From plotting adventures for her first favorite heroine Nancy Drew she went on to write poetry in high school and college, then worked as a business journalist doing speeches, sales promotion material and newsletter articles. After her marriage to a naval lieutenant took her overseas, she wrote the newsletter for the American Embassy in Tunis, Tunisia and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Before leaving Tunis, she fulfilled her first goal: completing a Regency novel.

Children intervened, and not until her husband left the Navy to return to his Texas homeland did she sit down to pen a second novel. The reply to her fan mail letter to a Regency author led her to Romance Writers of America. From the very first meeting, she knew she'd found a home among fellow writers--doubtless the largest group of people outside a mental institution who talk back to the voices in their heads.

Her second goal was achieved the day before her birthday in May, 1998 when Margaret Marbury of Harlequin Historicals offered to buy that second book, the Golden-Heart-Award winning novel that became THE WEDDING GAMBLE. Since then, she has gone on to write fourteen novels, three novellas and an on-line serial, along the way winning or finalling for historical awards from The Golden Quill, the National Reader’s Choice, Romantic Times, and All About Romance’s Favorite Book of the Year.

Julia now inhabits an English Georgian-style house she and her husband built in the East Texas countryside where, if she closes her eyes and ignores the summer thermometer, she can almost imagine she inhabits the landscape of "Pride and Prejudice." In between travelling to visit her three children (a naval officer son stationed in Washington, DC, a textiles and design major daughter who cheers for University of Texas at Austin, and a mechanical engineering major son also at UT Austin) keeping up with her science teacher husband and juggling a part-time day job as a high school French teacher, she pursues her first and dearest love--crafting stories.

To relax, she enjoys watching movies, reading (historical fiction, mystery, suspense) and puttering about in the garden trying to kill off more weeds than flowers.

Marcella Cranmore wants to avoid marriage and continue using her mathematical expertise to help her railway engineer father but her mother and grandfather insist on her having a Season. Her grandfather has bequeathed her everything in his will & she has a huge dowry At her first ball, Marcella’s relieved to see someone she knows, railway investor Crispin D’Aubignon. Conversing with the Viscount is safe, for she’s as off limits to him as he is to her…except that’s only increasing the fascination! Crispin has been tasked by his father in winning Marcella’s hand as the earldom is almost bankrupt. The pair make a bargain to court for the time they are in society.
A very well written book that drew me in from the start. I loved both Crispin & Marcella, he’s happy to wander the country looking at possible investments, she’s a highly intelligent woman who wants to work with her father. Their attraction sizzles but they spend time together & the become friends but also their respect for each other grows as well as both of them in denial about falling in love. The road to their HEA isn't easy with plenty of obstacles in their way but it did make for a riveting read, which I devoured in two sittings
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Marcella is a bright and beautiful young woman. If she were a man, she would be an engineer. Her family builds railroads and when she gets the chance, she works in her father’s office. She loves it. It is challenging and she gets to use her brain.

Her family is very rich. And because her mother wants it, Marcella has agreed to go into “society” and search for a husband who is a member of the nobility. Marcella knows from experience that she will be treated rudely, shunned and made to feel “less”.

Because there is a large dowry, men of the ton who need money expected to court Marcella. But, she realizes that none of them will be anyone she would ever want to wed.

Crispin is a future earl. Because of his family’s history, he does not have any desire to marry. But, because his father has made a deal with him, he will go into society and court the Factory Heiress. Crispin has agreed to this, because his mother will be allowed certain privileges that are normally refused to her. The Earl needs the money and although he believes this Factory Heiress is far below he and his family he wants his son to sacrifice his life for money. At the same time, The Earl belittles Crispin because he has made his fortune by investing. No one of quality is involved in “trade”.

Marcella and Crispin had met in a brief business meeting. They meet again in a ballroom. The two of them make a deal. There will be a false courtship. That will help protect Marcella from being treated badly. It will also allow Crispin to avoid his father’s wrath.

This story is a really good one.

As far as the nobility is concerned, no one is deserving of any connection to them unless they too are of the nobility. Money does not equate quality. But, they are not above doing nearly anything to get money if they are in need. The upper classes do not appear to be very admirable. The word shallow comes to mind.

The plot is an inventive one. It illustrates the lives of people who have created good lives for themselves by hard work and talent. It shows that their lives are less complicated and more likely to be filled with kindness and caring. At least that is true of Marcella’s family.

As Marcella and Crispin spend more and more time together, it is obvious they have a great deal in common. Both of them are intelligent, honorable and kind. Their goals in life are not identical, but each of them understand and support the other. Neither one of them are sure that marriage would be a good fit for them.

But, as they are getting to know one another, it is more difficult for them to believe that a marriage would not be a good idea.

Ms Justiss has created very well drawn characters. Marcella and Crispin are complete people. I would have liked each of them a little better, if they were able to more openly express themselves.

There are not many secondary characters but each of them are important to the story. If a reader is seeking insincerity, this is the book to read. Being a hypocrite seems to be the hobby of several of the best people in this story.

If I were to find any fault at all, it would be that I would have preferred fewer long descriptions and inner thoughts. I am more into events, actions and conversations.

Ms Justiss is a talented author. Although this is part of a series, it works well as a stand alone read. Characters and events from the earlier book are described and easily understood.

I received this book from the author in the hope that I would write a fair and honest review. All opinions are completely my own.

On the cusp of a new era, Lord Crispin D'Aubignon is one of the few noblemen who realizes that the future no longer lies in land and holdings, but in technology and new inventions. Drawn to the railroad being built, he is surprised to find an attractive young woman in the railway engineer's office. He is even more surprised when he finds her in a ton ballroom and that she is the heiress that his demanding father tells him to court. Neither Crispin nor Marcella are interested in marriage as they have different goals and ambitions, but ultimately they make a bargain, one which should keep everyone happy. Unfortunately, whilst times are changing, attitudes are not, and Marcella experiences the harsh reality of being an outsider in the rarified atmosphere of the aristocracy. I enjoyed the build-up of the romance between Crispin and Marcella and felt for her as she had to face the slings and arrows of society. This romance is well written with the interesting background of new developments taking place and kept my interest throughout. I received a copy of this entertaining novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Terrific story of two people from different classes who make a bargain to help each other and find themselves falling in love instead. Crispin, Viscount Dellacourt, believes that the way of the future lies in technology and industrialization and has made a fortune by investing in railroads. His father, the earl, constantly harangues Crispin for dabbling in "trade," so Crispin avoids him whenever possible. The book opens as Crispin pays a visit to the office of a railway engineer, looking for a new investment opportunity. There he meets Marcella, the engineer's daughter, who surprises him with her wit, intelligence, and knowledge of the project. Fascinated by his conversation with her, Crispin hopes to see her again.

Marcella loves working with her father, who willingly puts her love of mathematics and engineering to use. She would love nothing more than to continue her work with him, avoiding marriage for as long as possible. Crispin impresses Marcella with his interest and understanding of the railroad engineering process, unlike many of his peers.

I loved the first meeting between Crispin and Marcella. Though dismissive of him at first, Crispin quickly wins her over with his knowledge. They connect over the railroad project and in sharing their mutual disinterest in marriage. They also experience unexpected sparks of attraction, which each bury deep. Neither expects to see the other again except perhaps at her father's office. Fate, however, has something else in mind.

Though Marcella intensely dislikes the aristocracy thanks to some bad experiences in her past, her mother's dream is for her to marry a title. Marcella agrees to participate in the Season to keep her mother happy but vows to return at the end unwed. Unfortunately, having a considerable dowry makes her the target of cash-poor gentlemen despite her "merchant class" heritage. At the same time, Crispin's father insists that he court the "Factory Heiress" as a way to replenish the estate's coffers because marriage is the only acceptable method to do so. If he does so, the earl will allow his wife time in London to participate in the festivities. Because he loves his mother as much as he detests his father, Crispin agrees.

Marcella and Crispin are shocked to encounter each other in a ballroom, especially after their discussion about marriage. Though initially angry at what each sees as the other's deception, they discover that both are there under duress. I loved how they made a deal to publicly spend time together, appearing to court, to protect her from the bullying aspects of society and satisfying his father's demands. They agree to a month, at which time they will part ways. Both believe that there is no danger of developing feelings for each other.

I loved watching the development of Marcella and Crispin's relationship. Because of their common interests and shared disinclination for marriage, they can relax in each other's company. While carefully toeing the line of society's rules, they spend as much time as possible together. I loved Crispin's growing protectiveness as he witnessed the vicious attitudes of the ton and the unwelcome attentions of one overeager suitor. Crispin and Marcella have some wonderful scenes together as they learn more about each other. I laughed out loud at his horror when he discovered her plans to attend a scientific lecture wearing men's clothing and how he ended up helping her. At the same time, Marcella teaches him about the unequal treatment of women, especially when it comes to education. The scene in the bookstore went a long way toward opening Crispin's eyes. I especially enjoyed their growing respect for each other.

All too soon, both Marcella and Crispin realize that their feelings for each other have changed. However, Marcella knows she wouldn't fit in his world, and Crispin's witnessing of his parents' marriage keeps him from believing long-term happiness is possible. When vicious rumors circulate about Marcella, she breaks things off with Crispin early rather than trap him in a marriage he doesn't want. It takes some time apart and looking at a future without each other to realize they belong together. I loved Crispin's big moment at the end, his vision of their future, and Marcella's dreams coming true.

I enjoyed the inclusion of Crispin's friends Alex (The Bluestocking Duchess) and Lattimer (The Explorer Baroness). For Crispin and Lattimer, Alex's sudden marriage came as a shock but seeing his happiness made Crispin reconsider his beliefs. I also enjoyed the mention of Marcella's school friend, Miss Henley, whose story is told in The Awakening of Miss Henley. I enjoy it when characters from previous books make appearances in new ones.

With this second in a new series, the author continue to match unlikely people together.

If only the man she meet in her father’s office and listened with an open mind to her hopes and dreams were not from the world she does want to have nothing to do with.

Marcella doesn’t want, or need a husband thank you! Marriage will put an end to her passion of helping her father build and design trains.
But promising her mother and grandfather to attend a season in London, is becoming a frightful bore!
Why can’t she allowed to work in the field she loves?
Oh yes, that’s right, she’s a woman! And women were for decoration and procreation only! To be seen and not heard! Not for Marcella, she wants a partnership or nothing.

Crispin is sick of his father wanting him to marry for money! Avoiding him at all costs is becoming rather tiresome! But if he doesn’t then his poor mother has to face her husband’s wrath!
He likes to earn his money the honest way, to work for it! Whereas his father wants to inherit or for his son to get a dowry for his new wife!

So when they meet each other, an alliance is formed, a front will be provided for both parties. And when it’s all done, no one will be hurt, and everyone else will be none the wiser…..
In theory it sounds like a great plan, but neither expect to grow fond of one another. Neither expected more from this arrangement, but it does.
So can Crispin woo the lovely young Marcella? And will she believe he wants her for her brain and not the dowry that comes with marriage?
And if this other suitor puts his claim out there, who will Marcella choose?

I’ve read book one in this series. But it’s not necessary to read in order.

It’s a sweet romance, so if your looking for smut, you won’t find it here.
What you will find is a beautifully written story. With a strong female character and a hero who is willing to listen and be a modern man, rather than a chest thumping Neanderthal!

There is humour and quick wit. A rival for the fair Marcella’s hand, and parents that want what’s best for their children (even if the children don’t want it!)
I did like the scene where Marcella dresses as a man (unheard of in those days) but Crispin is having a hard time focusing on the task at hand 😆
I also liked that Marcella had a brain and it was being utilised by her father. He saw her potential and nurtured it.

For most a woman's place is in the home organizing the servant, dealing with the children, and playing hostess when needed. For some that is boring, like with Miss Marcella Cranmore, she wants to be an engineer. Having helped her father and learned from him after the devastating death of her brother, she now has to face not being able to do that. Her mother's greatest wish is for her to have a London Season, find a titled Lord and raise a family. Not wanting to disappoint her mother and grandfather, she appeals to get father and makes a bargain. She will attend the season only as long as she can tolerate it.

Crispin d’Aubignon, Lord Dellamont and their to Earl of Comeryn, does not want to marry after seeing the misery his parents gone through and not knowing if he would end up the same. He has chosen a life for himself and away from his disapproving father. When he can be sees his mother and to protect her as much as possible from the tirades of his father.

With an inheritance left to him Crispin starts to invest in businesses of the growing future in specific railroads. He surveys them before he invests and has been making money. While researching a new projected line he meets Marcella and is intrigued. She is intelligent, beautiful, and witty. When he is summoned by his father and told to all and marry the "Factory Heiress" to get money into the depleting family coffers.

The two meet at a ball only to think badly of the other until they strike a bargain. This bargain leads to fun, adventure, and scandal. Who gets the better end? Will they be able to over the obstacles thrown at them? Will family pressure get in the way? To find the answers you will need to read this engineering story and see what happens. Come along as you will find lively characters in family, friends and a few from society. Yes there is a villain that will have you shaking you fist at him and hoping he gets what he deserves. You even have a mischievous Grandda that will have you laughing!

Every time I read a historical romance, I become more convinced that if I'd lived in basically any era prior to the mid-20th century, I would've been burned at the stake for being a witch by the time I was about 12.

Which is pretty metal, so I'm cool with it \m/ >.< \m/

Horrifying hetero-amato-normativity aside, this was another cute Harlequin romance. I liked the hero and heroine, loved that Marcella was so into engineering and railroads and such, so not just your typical bookish bluestocking type. I also liked that Crispin appreciated her interests and enthusiasm and wanted to understand it better, and never thought poorly of her for not fitting society's very narrow mold for what women should be like. I also always loved when the miscommunication/noncommunication is cleared up quickly because the two people actually use their words and talk to each other, which is what happens early on in this one. Yes, there was a much longer misunderstanding trope, but it made sense within the context, and the proposal at the end is very charming.

This was a little on the dull side, though, as not much actually happens and the bulk of the book is just them going to balls and parties or riding together in the park, to keep up the bargain they both agreed to. There's a little drama around this other creepy dude lusting after Marcella, and also with Crispin's dickish family, but mostly like…nothing happens, LOL. The most intriguing part was when Marcella dressed in men's clothes so Crispin could take his "cousin" to an engineering lecture (which ladies aren't allowed to attend, because men are BABIES) and Crispin at first was like "no way" and then he saw her in fitted pants and a waistcoat and such and was like "OMG I wanna bone you" which I can't blame him for because women in male-coded clothing is hot to death.

A cute breezy read, not very substantial, but worth the time.

We forget how much things can change. For the landed Gentry of Regency England those changes came quietly. They made their money from their land. When agricultural prices dipped, their incomes dropped. That opened the Season and the Marriage Mart up to members of other classes, mainly tradesmen. That's where the money was flowing from. Even when the trade person received a title from the Monarchy, tradesmen and their families are looked down on.
That is the case in this story. Crispin is the son of an Earl. He's been told by his father that the estate is in debt and he needs to woo and marry a woman with a lot of money. Marcella is the daughter of a man who designs railroads. She is the granddaughter of a man who invented and improved machines that kept mines dry and factories humming. His machines were so valuable that he was made a Baron. To please her mother, she agreed to suffer through a Season in London. Her mother dearly wanted her only daughter to have a title and be called Lady. Crispin upset his father by investing and earning a larger income that the family estates provided. One of the things he invested in was Marcella's father's railroad. They had met in Marcella's father's offices, but didn't expect to meet again.
So guess who has the largest dowry at this year's Season? Guess who is pursued by fortune hunters and sins who's fathers need that infusion of cash? Poor little rich girl Marcella wants more than just a husband, children and a household to run. She isn't interested in a title. The Ton doesn't want her there, although they don't mind her money.
I enjoyed this book. While I know there would be a happy ever after, I was tickled by the path the characters took to get there. There are gentle reminders of other books in the series. I recommend to all who like a good romance.
I received the copy of this book that I read from the author.

Marcella Cranmore has numbers in her head. Yearning to help her father more in his railway business, Marcella feels tied down by the expectations of society. Why can't she just do something that is fascinating, and skip the season her mother wants her to have? But will she really ever be anything more than what society deems proper for her?

Crispin D'Aubignon's family needs money due to their returns on agriculture not being what they used to be. A Viscount and heir to an Earldom, Crispin has himself thrown off convention a bit, and has disappointed his tyrannical father by investing in the railways. While these investments were successful, they of course have not pleased his father. His father wants him to marry an heiress. Having heard of the 'factory heiress,' his father tells him to attend this season's London social gatherings to see if he can entice the 'factory heiress' into marriage. Knowing how ridiculous this is, Crispin attempts to satisfy his father until he finds out that the 'factory heiress' is a woman he met in her father's railway office some time before.

Marcella, determined to remain unwed, or at least not to someone who has a title, and Crispin, embark on a ruse to satisfy both sets of their parents when they pretend to be interested in each other. However, during their time together pretending, they start to feel more than they had expected. Marcella, at best, had thought perhaps she would marry a man who works for her father. Now, she is faced with having to reconsider her earlier assumptions about who any future husband may be.

This was a good story, primarily about throwing off society's conventions, and Marcella and Crispin figuring out how they both can be happy.

The Railway Countess is the second in the Heirs in Waiting series but can also be read as a stand alone story. This is Crispin and Marcella's story of two hearts from different classes, overcoming obstacles and finding true love. Crispin is a Viscount who grew up in a very contentious home where his father verbally abused his wife and kids. His father hates that Crispin makes money investing in railway ventures but has now told him that he must court and marry a Factory Heiress to save the earldom. Marcella is a math whiz who enjoys working along side her father in his engineering firm that builds railways but when her mother and grandfather talk her into have a season to marry a nobleman, she agrees but has a plan. Crispin and Marcella previously met when he went to her father's office to make plans to invest in their latest project. Neither is looking for marriage so they make a plan to pretend to be courting with the end result being that they go their separate ways but feelings change. The story that follows is filled with adventure, a little drama and a beautiful friendship that leads to a love to last. This is a story that will entertain and delight until the very last page.

I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.

Marcella and Crispin made a pact to pretend to be courting to satisfy his avaricious father who coveted her dowry for the family coffers and fend off her unwanted suitors. They become friends, having similar interests in science and railway construction through her father's firm and Crispin's investments. Crispin takes on the role of her protector against one particularly nasty suitor who kept trying to compromise her so she'd be forced to marry him because of her dowry. I loved the musical duet they performed with her emphasis in one song on not being governed by a man. I felt for Marcella and her love of learning, not being allowed to fully pursue it. I enjoyed hearing about the female scientists who made their mark during her time. I laughed when Crispin tried to discourage Marcella from dressing as a man to attend a lecture which did not allow women, a ban which would be unthinkable today. There is attraction between them but he fights it, not wanting to marry, like he was afraid to become like his father and make her miserable like his mother especially with their different backgrounds and society's opinions. They both have to decide whether love is worth the risk.

A charming, feminist-ish story with some wholesome family relationship stuff thrown in. Both of the main characters were sweethearts. Crispin irritated me on occasion - rather than having feelings, he’d have explanations of where the feelings he had came from. The dialogue was adorable, but I did find myself skipping times he spent alone.

I also loved the well drawn minor characters - they made everything more entertaining (and I find it charming when a writer really gets into friendly bit parts but just roughly sketches villains, like they’re too kind to conceive of a true bad guy).

The one thing that truly frustrated me with this book, though, was the inconsistency of the English railway references. It’s a historical romance! With “railway” in the title! At the very least, an author’s note about why she made anachronistic choices would’ve been nice. None of that, however, would correct the editing mishap where our characters visit the construction site of a viaduct that is oddly referred to as the Tower, Westminster and London bridge (these are all different bridges, not viaducts??).

The Railway Countess is book #2 in the Heirs in Waiting series. You can read it as a stand-alone story, which was my case.
Marcella Cranmore wants to avoid the common fate of women at her time - a marriage and children, in order to go on helping her father in his engineering business - to be more exactly, building railways through England. Her mother insists on Marcella having a season, so a fake courtship from one of her father's investors, Lord Crispin D’Aubignon, seems to be the perfect solution. Until both Marcella and Crispin realize that their mutual attraction starts to grow.
A lovely story, I only wished there were more about the railway being built between London and Bath, since it's one of my favorite train journeys when I visit England. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next instalment of the series.

Delightful story! Marcella is as smart and forthright as they come, love that about her. Her family is determined she have a season yet are thankfully still very supportive of her. Emotionally engaging as the consequences of her predicament unfolds as well as the give and take of her newfound friendships. Such a sweet story which I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure as what matters most takes precedence over Society and as the revelation of true love unexpectedly blossoms. I received a free advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to read and leave a review.

Book Two was as fascinating and enjoyable as Book One in this Series. Another Strong determined
Woman stuck in a male dominated society. Not free to think or educate herself. Yet, the story is
still so much more.
Marcella Cranmore and Crispin d’Aubignon Viscount Dellamont were a couple that made a pact to help
each other. Only fate had other plans for them.
Julia Justiss brought out the emotions in both of them and you could feel there true connection and concerns that they were going through. This made the story so believable.
Totally Enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this couple with their different backgrounds. Marcella was very intelligent, especially with numbers. She had a plan to continue helping her father and his business, but she was not prepared for Crispin. Their casual first meeting was interesting, and their attraction built off of that when they met more formally. Crispin was intrigued by Marcella though not prepared to fall for her.
I loved this couple, this book, and look forward to the next in the series.

I received an ARC, and this is my unsolicited review.

This story tells of an earl’s heir, Crispin, and Marcella. Her father owns a railway company (of which Crispin is an investor and Marcella shares a similar interest in). How they meet, how their lives become intertwined and how they overcome the prejudice of class distinctions and find their happiness is slowly revealed to it’s happy ending. The author interweaves many interesting facts about the railway industry that was common during that time period. A nice sweet and clean romance

A mathematically minded young heiress from the world of trade makes a bargain with an Earl’s heir to get through a couple of weeks of ton events but what will happen if she falls for him? Beautifully written story that really highlights the social divide of the day and the barriers women faced in life.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This story has a strong feminist theme, which is fine. But it's completely devoid of sex except for chaste kissing. I prefer my romances to have a little more spice to them. The middle section tends to drag on with tedious conversations and a lack of any strong conflicts except by a meddlesome, troublesome man who wants to marry Marcella for the wrong reasons. But I did enjoy the last couple chapters. I actually would prefer to give this book 2 1/2 stars.

The history behind Marcella is very interesting and unusual for the times, the romance is wonderful and subtle; you even get to learn about all the creepy guys there were back then 😁 (some things never change)!
Overall, it's a great read and I might add that I'm a BIG fan of JJ's books so my review may be a bit biased but always truthful!
Buy it and enjoy some "me" time!

Crispin and Marcella are an attractive couple. The story slows down in several places with a few throwaway scenes. Didn't see much of them but would like to know more about Crispin's sister Margaret and Marcella's Grandda.

This author knows how to write a novel that has amazing primary and secondary characters, a believable plot (some plot conveniences are contrived but tolerable) and set at a good pace.

Marcella Cranmore works and helps her father in his engineering business. He helps build railroads.
She is talked into having a season by her mother and grandfather. She does not want it, but she can't disappoint them. She will try for a brief time.
Viscount Lord Dellamont, Crispin d'Aubignon, is the heir but is fascinated with railroads and enjoys finding out about them and then investing. His father has not had the best crops lately and needs an infusion of money and wants Crispin to marry a chit with a huge dowry. But does not like the fact that she is a commoner and treats her badly as do the other nobles. He has no intention of marrying much less marrying her for her dowry.
It is a sweet story, and they interact so well together. You will see their misadventures and how the ton treats her and how supportive her family is. The characters are terrific, and the nobles are hypocrites, and they show it. There is a lot going on and you are engaged and interested. I liked that they supported each other and tried to be there for each other.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed this wonderful novel

Julia Justiss' book, The Railway Countess, takes us back in time to he year 1834. Marcella Cranmore is content spending time with her engineer father. She plans to escape marriage as long as possible.
Lord Crispin Dellamont is an investor who is no hurry to get married. When these two are both forced by family to attend events for the season, they hatch a plan. They will chat and dance at balls and other events as friends, keep other members of the ton away, and then break off things after a month. I enjoyed this well written book.

Sweet

A sweet friendship that leads to marriage. Marcella loves working with her father and figuring out how things work. Crispín is a gentleman who sees the future in technology not just in agriculture. These two are from completely different families but find that they have a common goal of trying to avoid marriage. The story is written with a well paced lilt that just invites a relaxing pace.
