Terrific book. Sabrina came to Desparre six months earlier, the latest home in her two-year-long flight from a stalker. It is the longest she's stayed anywhere, and she began to feel comfortable there, even making some friends. Then Sabrina found a note on her porch - the stalker found her! Should she run again, or is it time to make a stand? I loved that Sabrina decided that it was tie to stop running and went to the police.
Tate is a K-9 officer on the Desparre police force. He and his dog Sitka take the lead on Sabrina's case. Tate understands Sabrina's need to run from her stalker and his threat to her family. He did the same thing. No one on the force knows Tate was a cop in Boston before joining them as a rookie. He brought down several dirty cops back in Boston, though two went free due to lack of proof. Those cops threatened revenge, so to protect his family, he changed his name and fled as far as he could.
This story grabbed me from the first chapter and kept me hooked to the very end. I could feel Sabrina's fear and her difficulty believing that her nightmare could finally end. With Desparre being such a small town, Tate and the others thought they had a good chance of figuring out who the stalker is. Tate, who understands her fear on a personal level, is determined to set Sabrina free. Neither of them expected the feelings that grew between them.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between Tate and Sabrina develop. Though previously aware of each other, neither did anything about it because of their secrets. Now that they're spending so much time together, the attraction grows stronger. Tate tries to resist because a) he doesn't want to be distracted from protecting her, and b) because of his past and what he is hiding. Meanwhile, Sabrina knows that if they catch her stalker, she'll be able to go back to her life in New York, so getting involved wouldn't be wise. As they pretend to be a couple to draw out Sabrina's stalker, Tate and Sabrina find it feels all too real. I liked seeing them get to know each other. Sabrina opens up now that Tate knows the truth about her. Although Tate shares a few things about himself, he keeps the truth to himself, wanting to protect her. When the truth comes out, Sabrina understandably feels betrayed. It takes some deep self-examination for each of them to overcome the obstacles to being together. I loved Tate's heartfelt apology at the end. I would have liked an epilogue at the end because I still had a few questions about their future.
The suspense of the story was outstanding. Sabrina's fear of the stalker and his attacks on those she cared about leaped off the page. I could feel Tate's frustration at the difficulty of finding someone they had no information about. I loved seeing his use of social media to attempt to identify the stalker. It was a reminder that nothing is truly private. The case became more complicated when an attack that risked Tate's K-9, Sitka, made the local paper and national news. Tate feared that the men who wanted revenge would be able to find him. But he refused to run while Sabrina was still in danger. When an attempt to draw out the stalker went horribly wrong, Tate's fears became a reality. I was on the edge of my seat during that confrontation, wondering how Tate would pull off Sabrina's rescue. The intensity kept me glued to the pages until it was all over. And lest the stalker is forgotten, that also had a page-turning resolution - though having both Tate and Sitka sleep through his arrival strained my credulity a little.
I can't leave without mentioning Tate's K-9 partner Sitka. I loved her backstory on how she came to be with Tate. I loved that she went from shelter-rescue pet to trained police dog. It was also a great deal of fun to see her personality. When off duty, she was a beloved pet and a playful pup; while on duty, she was all business. I also loved how quickly she took to Sabrina and Sabrina to her. I loved seeing Sitka in action taking down the bad guys.
K-9 Hideout by Elizabeth Heiter is a fast-moving, suspenseful romance. This newest release is the fourth installment in the K-9 Alaska series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Sabrina Jones has been in Desparre, AK for six months and she is is beginning to feel safe. She has finally relaxed her guard just a bit but she still keeps to herself. But once Sabrina realizes the stalker she has been outrunning has caught up with her again, will she go on the run again?
Tate Emory and his K-9 partner Sitka are a common sight around town. While Sitka has not needed all of the skills she has learned, she puts them to good use once Sabrina goes to the police. And after it becomes obvious that her stalker remains threat, Tate and Sitka do everything they can to protect her.
K-9 Hideout is a well-plotted and engaging mystery. Sabrina and Tate are very resourceful and know how to protect their secrets. But even in a small town like Desparre, danger has a way of catching up when least expected. With unexpected twists, Elizabeth Heiter brings this tension-filled mystery to an exciting conclusion. Old and new fans of the K-9 Alaska series are sure to enjoy this latest installment.
I love K9 books and when I saw this one was in Alaska, I couldn't wait to read it.
Sabrina had been running from a stalker for 2 years, finally settling in Desparre, Alaska for longer than any other place she had lived. She'd been there for 6 months and thought she was safe. But when she got a note from her stalker, she knew he had found her again. She was tired of running so went to the police, but didn't expect them to be able to help her since the big city police couldn't.
Tate and his K9, Sitka, were the officers on Sabrina's case. He was perfect for the job because he was in a similar situation. Tate had brought down several dirty cops when he was on the force in Boston. They threatened to get revenge so Tate changed his name and moved far away.
Tate and Sabrina resisted their attraction knowing that Sabrina would be returning to New York once her stalker had been found. But pretending to be a couple to draw the stalker out, made them wish it could be real.
This suspense was terrific. Between the surprising events near the end and finding out who the stalker was, I didn't want to put the book down.
K9 Hideout is a good book with great characters. I especially liked Sitka. What a great dog. I would have liked a little more at the end. Maybe an epilogue?
First sad to see this series end. Tate Emory is a rookie police k-9 handler in Desparre, Alaska. He moved from Boston because of things that he told the truth about. He’s not telling the truth about himself to the people in the town. When Sabrina Jones walks into the station with a problem she’s been hiding from he, and his dog Sitka will help her at all costs. The only thing is she’s hiding something as well.
The only thing I couldn’t believe at the end was the situation with the stalker. The way things went down. I mean really Tate heard nothing?
The books in the series K-9 Defense:Alaska Mountain Rescue K=9 Cold Case K=9 Hideout
A stalker has forced Sabrina to change her name and leave her life and family behind. She has found safety and some sense of normalcy - including a handsome police officer who is keeping an eye out for her. Who knew he would also have a hidden identity, and life he left behind to keep his own friends and family safe. When these two worlds collide and become intermingled, what is unknown can potentially cause the greatest pain.
I found myself guessing and guessing again as to what was going to happen. I couldn't put the book down from about the half way point to the end. Everything became one big messy knot and then it unraveled, and everything was explained and came together perfectly in the end.
If you are looking for a good summer read, check out the K-9 Alaska series by Elizabeth Heiter. They are excellent books to help you pass the time during these blazing summer days.
The cover of K-9 Hideout may feature an attractive male, but make no mistake, the heart of this story is a strong, resilient and haunted heroine. You will be swept up, and care about, Sabrina’s struggle and courage from the very first pages. Enter an intriguing cop with a huge secret, his smart but goofy K-9 Malamute, and a chilling stalker. Hide everyone in the remote Alaskan wilderness, and you have the perfect recipe for harrowing suspense and a slow-burning romance. Effortlessly written, the pages turn themselves. This emotional rollercoaster explores loss, family, consequences, the power of love and forgiveness, and the will to move on. (But Ms. Heiter had me at the dog. :)
This is a highly enjoyable romantic suspense. The characters and storyline are well developed and engaging with a few twists and enough intrigue to keep you entertained throughout. The romance element builds slowly and isn’t even a sure thing until the very end, but it’s tantalizing enough to hold your interest. If you’re looking for a good, clean, suspenseful romance, then this is the one for you.
Well .. lots of action per HI usual. Good start .. got too repetitive and then i started to skip read to the end. Nice twist in plot. Not enough depth of character development or K-9 for this reader.
This is the 1st book I read by Elizabeth Heiter. I enjoyed this book's storyline. I really liked the action in this story. I really liked Sabrina's character. I really liked Tate's character. I loved ❤ Sitka 🐕. I really liked the ending.
K-9 Hideout is the fourth title in the K-9 Alaska series and brings us a unique couple facing danger on all sides… plus a brave, adorable police dog, Sitka (who stole scenes constantly). I’ve loved this series and Tate with Sabrina was no exception to that enjoyment. Two stubborn people for their own viable reasons, but when the attraction that’s always been in the background sparks under these circumstances they are about to face danger and their future together.
Through some parts of the previous stories, we’ve always known that Tate isn’t exactly what he seems… a rookie. Now that fact comes to the forefront as we watch a man who has changed his entire life in order to protect his family from bad cops step up to face them once again and this time take them down for good. Sabrina has a stalker, one who follows her no matter how well she believes she’s hidden herself this time. That stalker has made their move, and this time Sabrina isn’t running, this time she’s going to fight for the right to live her own life on her terms no matter the risks, and they are many.
K-9 Hideout is intense and believable (except for one small detail that I questioned but… ) and definitely filled with action-packed moments, dangerous villains on both sides, and growing love between two people who have drawn that line in the sand saying “No more, this stops now”. I have to admit that although I loved Sabrina and Tate together, it was Sitka who really stole my heart in this story. What an amazing dog, protector, and playful pup all rolled up in one gorgeous package. Because this is a Romantic Suspense I don’t want to get into many details beyond saying that I enjoyed putting the puzzle pieces together, sometimes I was right, other times not at all. The romance between Tate and Sabrina wasn’t the main focus which made the situation they were in all the more believable. An intriguing combination of romance and suspense that kept me flipping pages from start to finish. If you love a good romance and a puzzle to fit together, then you’d enjoy K-9 Hideout.
This book shares the suspense of two people coming together, while both are trying to get away from their past. Tate Emory, a police handler, is thrown into the spotlight when Sabrina Jones saves Stika, a police dog. He fears the exposure could cost him his new life here in Desparre. Sabrina is also running from a stalker in her past and gets a message that the stalker is here!! How can both be found! They were both trying to start over by removing themselves from their homes. They came to Alaska from different places seeking normal lives, but events they didn’t see coming, have taken control! Tate promises to protect Sabrina and catch her stalker. Can they run fast enough?? A truly engaging tale that keeps your interest until the end!
I would highly recommend! I cannot get enough of these books!
Another in the K-9 Alaska series, in which K-9 handler Tate Emory is hiding from the bad cops who tried to kill him after he discovered their criminal behavior while working in Boston. Now in a little Alaska town, he resumes his work as a police officer with his new partner, a K-9 dog. It's a good thing, because Sabrina Jones is convinced that the stalker who killed her boyfriend two years earlier in NYC has found her again. Will she have to run, even though she's never felt as safe as she does in the wilds of Alaska?
Tate convinces her not to run, to let him find and bring down the stalker that has made Sabrina's life miserable. But after a news article about her, his life is the one that is in danger when those bad cops kidnap Sabrina to make Tate meet them so they can kill him. Will both of these characters end up dead in spite of their efforts to live a normal life without being full upfront about their respective pasts? Thank goodness for Sitka, Tate's K-9 partner.
This is another Alaska K-9 novel...I like these books the story is solid the characters believable, and, Ms. Heiter also includes the DOG. I love stories where dogs have a role. This story is about Samantha Jones on the run from a stalker she settles in Desparre Alaska and thinks she is finally safe...then she gets a note from her stalker he's found her...Going to the police puts Tate Emory and his K-9 partner Sitka at her side promising to protect her until the man is caught...Tate is also running but doesn't tell anyone....And when HIS past catches up to him Samantha pays the price well worth the read to the end.
This was non-stop action! This story was full of secrets, stalkers, dirty cops and a wonderful K-9 named Sitka. Sabrina has been in hiding for many years from a stalker and Officer Tate Emory has a secret as well. However, he is willing to risk it all to protect Sabrina. He and Sitka are determined to protect her. The characters in this story were easy to like. The setting for the story is beautiful as well. You will be fully drawn into the story. I literally read this book in one sitting! This was book #4 in this series. You can definitely read each book as a stand-alone, but I recommend that you read all four. They are definitely worth your time!
When Sabrina and Tate meet, both have secrets they are hiding and both are running from dangerous situations in their previous lives. Will Tate be able to keep Sabrina safe from her stalker and the people who are trying to kill Tate? A very exciting and heart pounding finish at the end of the story.
I enjoyed this intriguing romance. I bought this at our local Goodwill store and I've given it a 5* rating. This has a lot of action from the beginning. I must say, this has double the trouble. I also enjoy the K-9 dogs in these series. They all have such personalities. This has some brutality. but everything is resolved by the ending. Thanks for the larger Print.
This was a fun read both main characters having secrets that could be deadly. Sitka is just as much of a main character as Tate and Sabrina. Definitely recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this story, I love K9 stories and most of them are great, this one was a great one, the story was exciting to keep you interested from page one to the end…..
We all protect those we love. How we do it varies as do the ways we do it. This book shows the sacrifices then main characters made for the love of family.
