Rate this book
It’s Christmas in Catalina Cove, a time of promise and second chances. But when you’re starting over, love is the last thing you’re wishing for…

Vaughn Miller’s Wall Street career was abruptly ended by a wrongful conviction and two years in prison. Since then, he’s returned to his hometown, kept his head down and forged a way forward. When he is exonerated and his name cleared, he feels he can hold his head up once again, maybe even talk to the beautiful café owner who sets his blood to simmering.

Sierra Crane escaped a disastrous marriage—barely. She and her six-year-old goddaughter have returned to the only place that feels like home. Determined to make it on her own, Sierra opens a soup café. Complication is the last thing she needs, but the moment Vaughn walks into her café, she can’t keep her eyes off the smoldering loner.

When they give in to their attraction, what Sierra thought would be a onetime thing becomes so much more. Vaughn knows she’s the one. Sierra can’t deny the way Vaughn makes her feel, but she’s been burned before. With Christmas approaching, Vaughn takes a chance to prove his love, and it will be up to Sierra to decide if her one Christmas wish—true happiness—will come true.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

His betrayal had done more than hurt, it had nearly destroyed her.

One Christmas Wish, is fifth in the Catalina Cove series but is the first book I've read in the series. The first half, especially the beginning is full of names and relationships that I'm assuming are characters that have appeared in the series and while it could have easily felt overwhelming, there's maybe a smidgen of that there, I felt it more brought the feelings of closeness of everyone in the town. As the title hints at, this takes place around the winter holidays, although Catalina Cove is in Louisiana, so you won't be getting hot chocolate and snowmen but blueberry muffins and gumbo. I normally complain about having a lot of characters thrown at me right in the beginning, but here, it just worked because the friendships and relationships provided those feelings of love and support you want to wrap yourself in during the holiday season.

However, tonight, while she sat across from Vaughn Miller, he had been able to do what all those other guys hadn’t. He had reminded her that she was not only a woman, but she was a woman with needs.

Our heroine Sierra, has moved back to town after getting a divorce, she found her husband in bed with the neighbors, and now owns a soup cafe, The Green Fig. She also has an adopted goddaughter from her bestfriend who died two years ago. She's decided to devote herself to raising her goddaughter, Sierra doesn't think she can trust again after her ex-husband. He's also been starting to call her nonstop trying to get her back. When her goddaughter tells her she gets one Christmas wish, she wishes for happiness.

Vaughn had kissed her in a way that even made her toes tingle, and she had liked it.

Enter our hero Vaughn, a former Wall Street man who was sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit. He ended up serving two years of the five year sentence and gives a lot of the success to a prison pen pal that sent moving words of encouragement while he was incarcerated. He ends up moving back to his hometown Catalina Cove and given a job by Lacroix Industries on their executive team. He also gets exonerated and found innocent of his original chargers. When he's having supper at the Green Fig, he takes a good look at Sierra and finds himself drawn.

Sierra closed her eyes for a second as she drew in a deep breath. How could she fight this? How could she fight a man who was so charming, so charismatic, so full of sex appeal and who had more magnetism than any man she knew?

This was a very low angst story that had Sierra not wanting to get involved with Vaughn in a serious capacity and Vaughn sweetly but surely wearing her down. By the 50% percent mark, they are hitting the sheets and steaming up the pages. There's some outside elements trying to distract them, Vaughn's ex-fiancee and a divorced woman in town trying to catch his eye, Sierra has her ex-husband trying to win her back so he can get a promotion and then her being scared to trust again. It's mellowed tone but as a holiday book it works because it provides that snuggle in, looking for human closeness.

“I would do just about anything for you, cherie,” he said softly.

There was a towards the end, brief, moment of Sierra's ex-husband trying to take her adopted daughter away that had Vaughn taking charge in a way that Sierra did not like and gave us that romance black moment that felt a tiny forced in Sierra's swing of emotion but that is the most angst you'll get here. There is also the set-up for, I'm guessing, the next in the series with a second chance romance that will have the man fighting and working to get back in the woman's good graces and I'm ready to see the guy work for it. There was also a thread of the town's founder Lafitte and his Princess Zara, Vaughn is their descendant, that has me very much wanting the author to take some artistic license and write a prequel starring them.

I would have liked to delve deeper into Vaughn's feelings of being sent to jail and the ending had one of those improbable but sweet reveals that you just have to go along with in a holiday book. Overall, this was a low angst story of family, friendships, and loving, perfect for snuggling in with and warming you from the inside out in the holiday season.

6 stars! ⭐️

This is the most the Beautiful book of this series thus far. In the fifth installment, the plot thickens on Christmas inside the streets of Dreamy Catalina Cove.

If you're ever Wishing Upon a spectacular book during Christmas time, this book is a true Heart warming present. The first page just reeled me right into one more blazing story so cleverly arranged with Vaughn, Sierra, and her Goddaughter.

This book kept me in a giggling tizzy!
(My Grandmother's word 😇) My One Wish would be for more books to be in this series because after I close the next book, that will conclude the entire series. Nonetheless, this entire series is Remarkable and I'm so excited to read more from this author. Lastly, readers can always count on Brenda Jackson to leave pleasing proverbs throughout her books as well.

💌 I must say.. the Ending 💌

"Things happen in life we don't have any control over, things I'm sure we wish we could forget. But, they are there with us reminding us to be more cautious than we were before. But, we can't let our past dictate our future." 💫

Très Bien 🎄

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

As a longtime fan of Brenda Jackson, I eagerly leapt at the chance to read One Christmas Wish. This is the fifth book in the Catalina Cove series, but it works well as a standalone. The story mentioned the couples from the previous books and provided updates on their lives.

Visiting Catalina Cove, a vibrant coastal Louisiana town steeped in French Creole and southern history, was a delightful experience. A small town ran by a wealthy business owner, who offered low interest business loans to entice former residents to return and help to revitalize the business district. Most of the residents who accepted the offer found love. Vaughn Miller and Sierra Crane are the latest pair to find love in this magical town. However, before they can seize their chance at a happily ever after, they would need to let go of the pain associated with their pasts.

Vaughn Miller is a total hottie with alpha tendencies. One could clearly see why all the single ladies had their eyes on him. However, he was not willing to give love a second chance, but all that changed when he met the beautiful Sierra Crane. The one woman who made him feel things he never thought possible. If only she would give him a chance to prove that love can be wonderful the second time around.

Sierra is not looking for an intimate relationship. Events from her previous marriage left her with a bitter taste. Her focus lies in the raising of her goddaughter and operating her soup and sandwich restaurant. So, giving her heart to a man, even one who made her feel things she never felt before, was not on her agenda.

One Christmas Wish delivered a heartwarming and cozy holiday romance. The story features a slow burn romance and also gave a peek into the next couple's story. Getting to know the Vaughn and Sierra proved a delightful experience. They made a wonderful couple. Vaughn’s patience and love shined throughout the story. No matter how many roadblocks Sierra erected, he patiently tore them down, one by one. However, she sure did not make it easy for him. Especially near the end, when she didn’t trust him to have her back and almost lost all she held dear.

One Christmas Wish hit the spot and left me craving another visit to Catalina Cove.

I have enjoyed my visits to Catalina Cove, a small town not far from New Orleans. This is the fifth full length book in the series, but you do not have to read them all to enjoy this story. I will say that there are characters present from previous books, so there may be a couple of spoilers if you want to go back and read the previous books. This book is the story of Vaughn Miller and Sierra Crane. Both of them had left Catalina Cove, but returned. Vaughn had worked on Wall Street, but been wrongly convicted of a crime and spent two years in prison. When he was cleared and released, he headed back to the town he had grown up in. Sierra returned to the Cove after her divorce. Not only had her marriage ended, but her best friend had died and she was now the guardian of her goddaughter. Sierra has opened her own soup café that has become a town favourite. When Vaughn comes into the café, he is attracted to Sierra and begins to pursue her. Sierra has now adopted six-year-old, Teryn, who really likes Vaughn. She is the one that insists on the One Christmas Wish that gives the book it's title. Of course all is not rosy and Sierra's ex shows up wanting her back and threatening to sue for joint custody of Teryn. There is lots happening and you will need to pick this up to learn more.

I enjoy this series and meeting up with characters from previous books. This is a Christmas romance with some angst, strong characters, sense of family, forgiveness and second chances. Sierra is afraid to get involved with another man, but is attracted to Vaughn. She wants to take care of Teryn and herself, without needing a man, so gets very angry when Vaughn wants to "fix" things. She needs to realize that sometimes help from others is a good thing. I loved Teryn's character. She was sweet and trusting even after what she had been through in her own life, losing both her parents. My one complaint is that there were a few open door bedroom scenes that were rather descriptive. In the previous books in this series, they were not as steamy, so I was not expecting this and skimmed those sections. I do enjoy this series, but be prepared for more heat than the previous books. Overall, I enjoyed the story and recommend this to those who enjoy a steamy second chance romance.

Vaughn Miller's Wall Street career came to a screeching halt when he was wrongfully convicted and served two years in prison. Although fully exonerated, Vaughn still has to prove himself. What better place for him to do that than to return to his hometown in Catalina Cove.

Vaughn is not the only one starting over. Sierra Crane is doing the same thing, for altogether different reasons. Her marriage had imploded after she caught her husband cheating. Sadly due to the death of her best friend Rhonda, Sierra Crane is now guardian to her four-year-old goddaughter Teryn. She is running a small restaurant called The Green Fig. Business is going well and Sierra loves her role as a mother.

Seirra and Vaughn soon meet and their lives will soon forever be changed. Although they both grew up in the same town, a few years difference in ages meant that they never had actually met. Furthermore, Vaughn's family was one of wealth and Sierra's was completely opposite. The two are rather immediately drawn to one another and begin to spend time together.

However, Vaughn is still dealing with his past and Sierra's previous broken relationship has left her with a lot of baggage. Will the pair be able to get past their differences and the challenges they face and find their way to a love everlasting?

Although this is the fifth book in the Catalina Cove series, it did very well as a standalone. However, this story, the members of the town and the love story as developed in this book make me want to go back and read the first four books in the series.

Many thanks to HQN and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Thank you @HQNBooks for my copy! Now I know what you are thinking-what the hell is a Christmas romance book doing on my feed. I mean 😲 right?! Well I thought this year I would try and defrost that ice muscle in my chest just a tad so I started with this!

My favorite thing about this was the setting. I would love to visit Catalina Cove one day. It sounds so beautiful. Christmas trees on the water sound so pretty. Sierra was such a strong women and main character. I really liked her bond with Teryn and their whole relationship. For my first Christmas book, I enjoyed this sweet little story. It was entertaining and the spice level was pretty darn spicy! 🌶

Another installment in the Catalina Cove series and I'm here for it. I really enjoy this series overall, but I had to say this one felt a little forced. The story wasn't bad, but a lot of the drama felt forced especially at the end. I just felt like there were other more logical ways to handle the situation that would have made more sense for these characters.

All in all, this one was ok for me but not great.

Y’all know I love a good Brenda Jackson book! This was a great addition to the Catalina Cove Series! The trope here isn’t paranormal but definitely kismet as this was going to be! Vaughn was everything and then some! Sierra was a very frustrating heroine BUT to be fair her failed marriage had really bruised her. I’m glad she was able to find happiness and love with Vaughn and for them to have their full circle moment! Where that circle starts you’ll have to read and find out! Last I read this book by audible and man I have missed Ron Butler so much! He is one of my favorite narrators and his voice is sooo soothing! Overall a great Christmas read!

I can’t even get through the beginning of this book, it’s written so strangely to me! The dialogue is choppy and very unnatural. I was having to read it almost in an accent or fake voice in my head to make it make sense before I ultimately gave up. I just can’t. Anyone else?

They saved each other

Vaughn Miller was not looking to get involved with a woman after what Camilla did to him. She was not loyal and dropped him like a hot potato after he was arrested. Sierra Crane's heart had been thoroughly trashed by her cheating no good selfish ex-husband. She focuses her life on fulfilling her promise to her deceased bestie by raising her goddaughter Teryn and making her soup kitchen successful! Both she and Vaughn were drawn to each other but Sierra wanted to take things slow. Vaugh was so patient with her. Everything was going well until all hell broke loose in the name of Sierra's ex. Vaughn wanted to help protect the woman he loved but Sierra, being stubborn just made their relationship take a nosedive. But they were both miserable without each other.

I loved how the author portrayed this couple. Each of them had reasons not to love again but they took the chance on each other. I loved how Vaughn was patient with Sierra and courted her. He let her take control over how fast or slow their relationship would go. But at the same time, he knew when to put his foot down. Teryn was so cute and her Goddy was everything to her. It made it easy for Vaughn to have a ready-made family. They deserved their HEA.

The only problem I have with this story is the term of endearment the author mistakenly uses as a creole term of endearment. The term cherie is Parisian French. Being of South Louisiana Creole descent, the term we use here is cher (masc.) or chere (fem.) I have problems with Hollywood on Queen Sugar pronouncing this term every way but the right way. I'm just venting. It was still a very well-written and enjoyable Christmas story.

I was looking for a Christmas Book to read and came across this one and I really enjoyed the story! In some places, it said this book was a part of a series, and in other places, it said it was a stand-alone read. I felt like this was a stand-alone read, but I plan to check out the other books.

One Christmas Wish was the perfect combination of drama and romance!

There were so many intricate details and romance that kept me wanting more. All of the characters were given depth and I was rooting for them. I do think that there was a bit of a disconnect when it came to how people in relationships support each other. I understand what the author was trying to portray, I just don't agree completely with her message.

Wow, what an awful book! Picked this up hoping for a feel good Christmas story and it was full of machoism, porn-like sex scenes and a very empty plot. Do people actually like to read this stuff?!

I've enjoyed each book in Brenda Jackson's Catalina Cove series. She brings this small southern Louisiana town to life and populates it with intriguing characters who are easy to root for. While fans of the series will no doubt enjoy catching up with some of those earlier characters, Sierra and Vaughn are new to the series. Readers who are also new to the series can easily begin with One Christmas Wish without any confusion.

Sierra and Vaughn's relationship is not without its challenges, with Sierra throwing up roadblocks with frequency. Her former marriage definitely took a toll on both her own self-worth as well as her willingness to let another man into her life. I wanted to toss her ex off a remote, very high, cliff for what he put her through both during their marriage as well as in the present. She has some growing - and healing - to do in order to be ready to open her heart again.

Vaughn has emotional baggage in his past as well but seems to have reached a point where he's dealing with it better than Sierra. He's such a good guy. I loved his chemistry with Sierra and the deeper feelings he's ready to embrace. I also loved his interactions with Sierra's adopted daughter, Teryn, a six-year-old dynamo who steals every scene she's in.

While reading this book, I spent a lot of time drooling over the soup specials at Sierra's restaurant (I need recipes) as well as immersing myself in the holiday events in Catalina Cove. Jackson depicts the town so vividly.

There are a few secondary stories intersecting with Sierra and Vaughn's relationship which add intrigue, angst, a threat against Sierra, and the introduction of a new couple for a future book. There are also some threads left hanging from the potential resolution of the issue regarding Sierra's ex-husband. I hope that will be addressed in the next book. Only then, will I be certain of the happy ending this book promises.

I can always count on Brenda Jackson for an immersive reading experience that brings all the feels and she delivers once again with this newest Catalina Cove tale. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to this small, friendly town on the bayou where second chances and love await new residents as well as those who find their way back home.

One Christmas Wish is the fifth entry in the Catalina Cove series and my first novel by Brenda Jackson. Sierra Crane was raising her young goddaughter, running a small business, and still trying to heal after her ex-husband’s betrayal ended their seven-year marriage. Vaughn Miller has recently been exonerated for a crime he did not commit, after serving two years in prison. A return to his hometown and a fresh start has helped sooth the bitterness over all that he lost. When Sierra and Vaughn met there was instant chemistry, but Sierra was determined to keep her distance. She was slow to trust and unwilling to give up her independence for any man. But Vaughn knew his feelings were the real thing and was patient enough to wait until Sierra could see that, too.

Despite Sierra’s efforts to keep things with Vaughn casual, it was obvious she had feelings for him that ran deeper than she was ready to admit. While her hesitancy was understandable (to a point), I found Vaughn’s approach so refreshing. He was a man who had been burned in the past but was willing to put his heart on the line again for the woman he was quickly coming to love. His patience, his understanding, and his care and concern truly made him the star of the show for me. When some drama with Sierra’s ex happened late in the story, her stubbornness and insistence on “handling her own business” became a real stumbling block and it was frustrating to see her fight against someone who was so clearly on her side and trying to help. Thank goodness Vaughn had the patience of a saint!

There were a lot of characters mentioned throughout the story and while it was a bit overwhelming at times, it also helped set the stage and reflect what a tight knit community Catalina Cove was. The story did take place over the holidays, the seasonal elements were fairly mild: talk of the small town’s Christmas on Main Street, a tree decorating party. I found the story’s “twist” concerning the titular Christmas wish to be a bit over the top with the kismet aspect, and truly not necessary to the story, but it also didn’t detract from my enjoyment.

One Christmas Wish was a quaint small town romance with a strong focus on the community and those who called Catalina Cove home. Readers looking for a heartwarming comfort read with a bit of spice will surely enjoy Jackson’s One Christmas Wish.

Steamy Christmas story

Vaughn Miller was falsely arrested and was finally cleared. He went back to the Cove to work with Reid as his right hand executive. What got him through the time he was in prison was his pen pal Marie. She wrote him words of encouragements but he never knew who the person was..
Sierra Crane came back to the Cove after her divorce from Nathan. They were married for seven years but she walked in on him cheating on her with her two neighbors. She walked out and was determined to never let another man hurt or dominate her.
Her closest friend past away and she adopted her little girl, Teryn, who was also her Goddaughter.
She owned a Cafe that served Soups and sandwiches. Vaughn came in one night and their eyes meet and the heat was there. The French Creole magnatizism was there. He was a handsome man and she was a beautiful curvy woman. The friendship was slowly growing over the course of time because of her trust issues.
He was a fantastic kisser, all woman's dream of a man. He could create such heat with just a kiss. He could make her want more with his exquisite kisses and caressing.
By the time they made love he was into to her pleasures before his own. He was a very romantic person and loved her deeply.
He also included Teryn in their lives and enjoyed their company. She was a great little girl.
She wanted Vaughn and Sierra to ask Santa for one present for Christmas. She was excited that Christmas was coming and wanted Santa to bring them their wish.
Nathan needs to get back with Sierra to promoted at his job. She refuses and he threatened her by saying he is going after joint custody of Teryn. Because their divorce wasn't final when she adopted Teryn he figured he would blackmail her.
Vaughn with all his love for the two ladies in his life will do anything he can to keep them together. He calls a friend to get dirt on Nathan. Sierra gets upset because it made it worse and told Vaughn she never wants to see him again. She's so devastated that she is going to lose to Nathan.
Vaughn is hurt but he doesn't give up trying to save them both.
It was one of the great stories I have read. Great story with a lot of sexual attraction but also respect for each being hurt by the people they once loved and hurt them.
I would definitely recommend reading this book because of this fantastic love story.

Two lost and lonely souls find themselves growing closer and falling headlong into love in Brenda Jackson’s latest contemporary romance, One Christmas Wish.

Vaughn Miller’s Wall Street career had come crashing to a sudden and shocking halt when he had been wrongly convicted of a crime he didn’t commit and sentenced to two years in prison. Now exonerated, Vaughn feels like he has at long last got his life back. He doesn’t need to skulk in the shadows and keep his head down any longer and can now start living again – starting with mustering up the courage to talk to beautiful café owner Sienna Crane and maybe asking her out on a date.

After her marriage had ended badly, Sienna and her six year old goddaughter had returned back home. Determined to make it on her own terms and using her own skills and talents, Sienna had opened a soup café in town. All of Sienna’s hopes and dreams are wrapped up in her new business and the last thing she wants or needs are further complications putting all of her plans for the future into disarray. However, when she claps eyes on handsome Vaughn Miller, Sienna is immediately intrigued by the good-looking loner.

Giving into the attraction that sizzles between the two of them quickly proves inevitable for Vaughn and Sienna. Both of them soon realize that one night together is nowhere near enough, but Sienna had been burned once before and she is not ready to go through all that pain and heartache again – even if Vaughn is one of the good guys.

With Christmas just around the corner, will true happiness ever be within Vaughn and Sienna’s reach? Or is their love simply not meant to be?

Sweet, sparkling and sensuous, One Christmas Wish is classic Brenda Jackson. A heart-warming and engaging contemporary romance about starting over, second chances and the magic of falling in love, One Christmas Wish is the captivating tale of Vaughn and Sienna, two fabulous characters readers will cheer on and be completely and utterly charmed by.

Master storyteller Brenda Jackson has once again penned a must-read contemporary romance with her latest novel, One Christmas Wish.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I want to Christmas in Catalina Cove!

This vibrant coastal Louisiana town is so well run and planned that it is wooing residents who left to make their mark in the world at large back to its shores and others who happen to visit have decided to stay! Two such returned Covers were our lead loves Vaughn and Sierra! Both had experiences with exes that soured them for a time. I was glad to see they ended up being what each other needed to move forward and be happy. Not surprisingly the two exes thought to try and crawl back when it served their purposes. It made me giddy when both Sierra and Vaughn refused to fall for the okey doke and allow them to side track what they were working on. That Sierra's ex was such a douche that he would use someone Sierra loved and he cared nothing about to further his career goals made me cringe with anger. Aren't you glad that real love does not take no for an answer? I am. And so glad that what was beating in Vaughn's heart for Sierra was real indeed. This novel has intrigue, cattiness from the think they are elite group, impending drama that is sure to involve a certain teacher and the new bank owner(stay tuned I hope) and some downright small town loving and living that lifts everyone up and brighten their collective days. I so enjoyed visiting Catalina Cove again and being caught up on some of her earlier prodigal children and how their lives are still happy, fulfilling and thriving. With each visit back to the Cove, I like Reid Lacroit more and more!!!! Another excellent read Mrs. Brenda Jackson, thank you so much!!! Question? Will we get to read Velvet and Jaye's story? I hope so as I always enjoy my visits to Catalina Cove and her mix of lovely loving people!!!!!

While I've read many of Ms. Jackson's books this is the first of the Catalina Cove stories I've tried. I was surprised to learn it is set in a city supposedly in Louisiana. Could be Covington across the lake from New Orleans, or St. Bernard parish, or several other cities within an hour of New Orleans. There are so many bodies of water here and all with charming communities on their banks.

One thing should have been corrected in the book:
THERE ARE NO OCEANS IN OR AROUND LOUISIANA!!

This is a glaring error that keeps being repeated in the story and probably in the other Catalina Cove novels. "A room with an ocean view", they could "smell the ocean", etc. If one could then they weren't in Louisiana! It irked me each time I read the reference. We have lakes, bayous, rivers, marshes, and the Gulf of Mexico, we may have more water then land in this state, but there is NO Ocean!
Other than that error the story was enjoyable and interesting. Most of the story focuses on the developing relationship between Vaughn Miller and Sierra Crane. Two people who have well deserved relationship trust issues, as do most of the characters in the story.
The most interesting events occur in the last hundred or so pages and would have made a better, stronger story if they had begun earlier and unfolded as the story progressed. The characters: Sierra's ex, her friend Velvet's ex, and Marie, a friend of Vaughn's are introduced early in the story but then nothing happens until the last fifty or so pages and then it seems rushed to tie everything in a neat little bow.
Only pointing out this could have been a deeper story instead of a bit of fluff.

One Christmas Wish, by Brenda Jackson, book five in her Catalina Cove series, is a return to the amazing and healing bayou town and its fascinating residents.Vaughn Miller was falsely imprisoned, and was finally cleared of all wrong doing; after his release from prison. He had kept to himself but that all changed once he stopped in a restaurant call The Green Fig which served amazing home-made soup. The owner, Sierra Crane was getting over a failed marriage from a deceitful and controlling ex-husband and the proud of Teryn, her adopted goddaughter, daughter of her best friend Rhonda, who had died from cancer. Both Vaughn and Sierra grew up in the Cove, left for greener pastures, but eventually returned. Vaughn recognized Sierra’s broken, betrayed heart which had erected protective walls around her heart and her need to move slowly. Determined to win her over, he made sure that they spent time getting to know each other, becoming friends, including Teryn in their activities, before falling in love with one another. The inclusion of Teryn in this story, especially her “one Christmas wish” notion, plays a major part in the story; one you will understand when you read the story. The story not only sizzles with romantic heat, but it also tugs at your heart strings, and reassures you that good things happen to good people. I highly recommend One Christmas Wish to other readers and look forward to Velvet and Jaye’s story.

The Review

The author immediately brought a level of intrigue to the characters with the introduction of Vaughn. His backstory and the trials and tribulations he endured to get to the point he is at in the story was so emotionally driven, and to be able to convey that in a short introduction to the character and bring those emotions to the forefront showed the depth of the author’s writing immediately. Sierra showed such strength and resilience in the face of her own tragic past and highlighted the power and heart that goes into owning our own power and our ability to fight our own battles while still having a support system.

The romance and passion really drove this narrative forward greatly. The story does incorporate a bit of holiday setting and magic into the book, but this is definitely still a very steamy and heated romance, delving into both the emotional depths of their relationship and the more intimate and sexual nature of their bond together, giving romance readers a well-rounded narrative overall.

The Verdict

A brilliant, heartfelt, and truly creative holiday romance, author Brenda Jackson’s “One Christmas Wish” is a must-read story this holiday season. For fans of passionate and heated romances with a heartwarming holiday twist, the narrative takes readers on an emotional journey that tears down two people’s barriers and ends on a fantastically emotional twist of an ending that will keep readers feeling all the feels this holiday.

Welcome to Catalina Cove, a small Louisiana town on the water. Meet Vaughn and Sierra. Vaughn has been recently exonerated for a white collar crime he didn’t commit. Sierra, 2 years divorced, owns a soup cafe and is raising her young goddaughter.

Vaughn becomes a frequent diner at the cafe, but will he get more than what’s on the menu? Will their love end in flames when Sierra’s slimy ex-husband saunters back in town with blackmail?

I really enjoyed this sweet romance that grew from an explosive attraction to a meaningful love story. It was great reading their love journey as both of them were so deserving of a real chance at happiness, together. I wanted to scream at Sierra to let this man love you, but she was scarred in the past and needed more time. Vaughn’s patience, consistency, openness and understanding helped Sierra break down her walls, and give love a try.

The story screamed Christmas: family, loveable characters, a cute kid, Teryn, and heaping hot bowls of soup! There was also enough steamy scenes to fill the cold winter nights.

I was wishing I could taste the delicious soups. Gimme alllll the gumbo! It’s in La, so you know the food’s heavenly!

The narrator was excellent! He did an incredible job with both male and female pitches and tones.

This is the 5th book in the Catalina Cove series, but my first book in the series. Ms. Brenda Jackson has been writing beautiful love stories for decades and she’s still got the magic touch.
