We Mackenzie's are henchmen. The whole lot of us. Until I met her . . .
LEITH As a member of the Mackenzie clan, we fight for each other. We die for each other. And when I fell for Chevelle, those same rules applied to her. She loves me, but hates the family business. So, I hid the villain in me until today. Today, I need to do what must be done and that requires the help of the same people she would rather us keep our distance from.
CHEVELLE After tragedy destroyed my family, I should’ve run from all things MacKenzie not straight into Leith Mackenzie's arms. I was broken. He remade me. Loved me and our little baby. Showed me that monsters could be humans and have hearts too. That he could be different than the rest of his ruthless clan. Unfortunately, now, Leith can't be the hero for me that he was before. He needs be that Savage Scot instead, and I'm afraid it'll cost us everything.
*Die For You is the first book in the Scottish-MacKenzie Crime Family series. This steamy love story is a STANDALONE and contains NO CLIFFHANGERS, NO CHEATING, and has a HEA. This is a mature new adult, romantic suspense that contains situations that some readers might find offensive.
USA TODAY Bestselling Author Amarie Avant focuses on writing romantic suspense, contemporary romance, dark romance with the occasional redeemable anti-hero.
Received an ARC in exchange for a review I'm struggling a bit so I'm setting this aside DNF at 43% the storyline is a bit slow the sex scenes are hot and i did find myself laughing at some parts. But the heroine is naive to think her husband would not be involved in the business aka the syndicate. It's in his blood and what he's been born to do and she's like leave it for me.

Title: Die For You Author: Amarie Avant Publisher: A.A. Reveiwed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Five Review: "Die For You" by Amarie Avant
My Opinion:
"Die For You" was quite an interesting 'MacKenzie Scottish Crime Family' read where Leith and Chevelle's story features. We find Chevelle had gone through quite a bit when she meets Leith MacKenzie and how her life will change. We get to see what happens when these two falls for one another after tragedy befalls the Chevelle family.
Leith MacKenzie loved Chevelle, but she hated his family business, so he did what he could to keep her out of what was going on. But was this a good thing, especially when things started coming out about him in his ruthless clan? What will happen when secrets start to come out? How will this affect Chevelle? This is a deep story, and I don't want to tell too much other than to say you will have to pick this story up to see how all of this will come out and get all of these questions answered and more. I was glad to see Chevelle finally getting the truth of how her parents had died. What all will Leith have to go through to be Chevelle's hero again as he is depicted as a 'Savage Scot' after she finally finds out what all is going in in this crime family? Will Chevelle realize that she was in this family business whether she wanted to be in it or not? A few times, Chevelle got on my last nerve in how she proceeds with things around her; however, I could understand why she didn't care for that certain brother in law!! And on that subject, I will say the characters in 'Die For You' were all well developed and defined, giving this read one engaging read that will keep your attention through the read.
This is a crime series, so be ready for a little bit of it all, from the hot steamy love of two childhood lovers to lots that go into being in the crime family business that takes care of everyone in the family.
In the end, will Chevelle be able to accept being in the MacKenzie Crime Family what all it involves? Well, to see how it all comes out, you will have to pick up "Die For You' as a good standalone, with no cliffhangers and a HEA that I would recommend to you as a good read. Oh, I enjoyed receiving the 'Die For You' Excerpt that gave the reader a glossary that included words in the story that helped me understand a lot of what was going on in the story.
A MUST HAVE Die for you by Amarie Avant was another five star worthy book to read. There is the hero Leith, a Scot whose roots are in the Scottish Mafia. Then there is Chevelle, the hero/Leith's wife, who wanted nothing to do with the crime aspect of Leith's family because of her fear of history repeating itself. Amarie, wrote a tale entails lies, deception and full blown love. What I admired a lot in Leith's character is that he is not all talks and no action type of guy. When he said that he'd die for Chevelle and Mia, he literally meant it. I enjoyed watching the character growth in Chevelle. She went from her eyes being covered in wool to I can see clearly now. There were times when she upset the life out of me lol but i can safely say it's all in the past now. The rest of the MacKenzie Clan was just as fun to read, especially Cam and little Brody lol. The constant mention of Resnov Water was life in itself and just brought back pleasant memories. Amarie has always been consistent in giving us books with so much substance that this one is no different. At this rate i'm beyond excited to read Brody and Justice's love story.
DNF..abandoned cuz I was bored to tears. I actually like Amarie Avant's books for the most part but this one..it didn't grab my attention several chapters in. I may try to go back and read it but, not anytime soon.
What drawn my attention to read this book was the blurb. I don't know the author, now have I ever read a book from her, but something in this blurb spiked my curiosity. I just knew that I needed to read it so here I am. Amarie Avant is a new author to me and let's just say I'm going to stalk her. Yep, I really am. Her writing is raw and wild, sweet and intense, dark with a touch of hotness. How can I not like it? Die for You is her latest release and explores the lives of Leith and Chevelle. Leith is a henchman. He's used to killing and has no remorse. He will fight for what he wants and Chevelle is what he wants. Chevelle lost it all. She had lost her family and she's broken because of it. She should be running but something made her run into Leith's arms. But... I really loved this book. It had it all, suspense, crime, punishment, love, desire... All the ingredients that make a story perfect. Great plot, super engaging and intense. I had a few problems understanding some of the words, but that didn't make me love this story less. These characters worked perfectly with each other and you could feel the love between them. You could see their struggles, their pains. Chapter after chapter, I was glued to my kindle. I couldn't stop reading it. I was so immersed in this book that when I looked at the clock it was 5 am... 5 am guys. I was left with the need to eat Fruit Loops. Lol. To bad that I can't find them here in Portugal. Now I can't wait to read Justice and Brody's book. Will it take too long Amarie? Great book by the way. Perfect. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I loved this one. I wish their was more. Hands down great story. This book way good from the start to the end. It took me a minute to get use to the language. I caught on quick thanks to the cheat sheet in the beginning of the book 😃. I was so happy to read that this is going to be a 3 book series.
Another brilliant piece of work from Amarie Avant. I enjoyed reading Leith and Chevelle's story. They were a cute couple caught up in a mystery that slowly unfolded. Looking forward to more from this series.
Leith’s family creed is: , we fight for each other. We die for each other. He will do the same for Chevelle. They have loved each other since forever. She however is not a fan of the family business. He tried to keep her separate but there comes a times when the two lives have to cross. This story will have you on the edge of your seat. Mystery, revealed secrets, danger , Steam, action, sex and a love do die for. Leith and Chevelle and a winding road to their HEA. In the end will it be worth the things they have to give up?
Awesome Read! This was a great read, I love this family. I loved the storyline and the main two characters. The girl had to grow on me One of the younger brother they call American l love him and can't wait for his story. Brody's story is next. I would recommend this book.
This book was a bust for me. I was super annoyed with Chevelle & Leith. Supposed to be smart, rich & so far gone in love???? The whole book based on very poor communication & lies, but they luv each other but get constantly caught in high school mix ups that could have been resolved with one good conversation... This was a whole book🙄. The Scottish slang was OVER THE TOP! made it very hard to read. No clear understanding about their financial issues/status/job situation. Not a fan of the "strong, but stupid, naive, contradictory" female character that is in love, don't trust, straight laced but still involved with the dangerous man...and constantly putting herself & everyone else in danger. Of course sex covers it all. And what is it that Leith sees in her?? I was even annoyed with the irritating, poorly parented, diabetes prone child that is selfish and bratty. It took me over a week to get thru...I'm off with nothing to do but read😒
This is one book I plan on going back for seconds and thirds
I thoroughly enjoy this book. And I plan on going back for seconds and thirds.
I really love books where the author has their main characters knowing each other as kids. I really enjoy it even better when they show you the chemistry between them as they grow.
I call it the time line growth romance. But even though Amarie Avant did not do this, she killed it again with this book.
I truly love the Scottish and black woman series that has been coming out. And I can say this new one has reach my top 10 favorites. I cannot wait to for April's book to come out, and to read Brody and Justice book. I hope Cam book comes out soon as well.
Marking my calendars for these release dates I'm so excited. This is one book and beginning of a new series you wouldn't want to miss out on.
My Irish is a little rusty so at times it was a bit hard to understand their speech. But otherwise, this was my kind of story. I love mafia (IR) books. Only when they are true to exactly what they are. Glad MS Avant doesn't water them down. She lets their true nasty shine thru 😃😃
3.25 Stars. (BW/WM). An Audible audiobook captivatingly read by JT Farrell and Robyn Isaacs. The narrators made this a worthwhile listen. The protagonists have been sweethearts since they were twelve, they dated for ten years and are now in their fifth year of marriage. They appear to be madly in love, happy as larks and fu--king like bunnies; but every story needs conflict. The conflict in this story seems contrived and not naturally occurring, it's minimal and a bit juvenile...the heroine disapproves of the hero's participation in his family's business, she's jealous of the hero and his family's relationship with his female best friend; also, the heroine has abandonment issues and fears that her's and the hero's marriage with end in a violet tragedy like the marriage of her parents. The hero loves his wife and extended family and who wants to please his father; driven by that desire, he often fails to share troublesome events that the Clan needs to know. Chevelle MacKenzie is a new mother who wants to open a pub, Leith MacKenzie is the second oldest of the six MacKenzie boys. Leith is a tech geek and developed apps and gaming tech for one of the family's business and like the other sons, he is also a MacKenzie Clan enforcer. Leith and Chevelle resolve their issues once they start voicing and listening to each others concerns and not using their sexual chemistry and ability to sexually gratify each other to answer to their differences. After a few murders, Chevelle accepts the MacKenzie Clan for what it is and accept Leith's part in it.
This book was a stellar, I wish I could give it a 10 but 5 is the highest lol.. this is a story about love and deep dark secrets, everything isn’t what it seems.. Chevelle was dealt a bad hand starting with a lie that was embedded in her head by lady and bc of that she hated her father.. Leith a Scottish lad that move in the apartment complex where Chevelle reside and one day they became friends but further down the line it blossoms into something more husband and wife and adorable Mia!!! Everything can’t be roses right leith is being blackmail by someone from his past and he would moved heaven and hell to protect his family. I know he tried to do it himself but sometimes it’s best to have family to help as well and he could’ve avoided all this drama. The action scenes are off the chain and the sex scenes!!!!! Omg can we say scorching hot, ericka hmmm yea I still don’t like or care for her move on, but I’m glad Chevelle got her closure and the real truth about her parents murder and she handle her business like a G ... now she can relax and love her family without that weighing her down, Fausto is five years too late so glad he expired... this book will make you laugh, cry, want to fight and cheer them on. Well done Mrs. Avant I can’t wait for Brody and Justice story...
In this story and introduction to this Scottish mafia family, you will definitely have a new appreciation for that particular Scottish brogue they are known for. You will definitely be thoroughly entertained with all the characters of the story not just the main ones Chevelle and Leith. From start to finish you get pulled in and will continue to read on wanting to know more Chevelle’s past and all the connections. Leith is definitely a guy to want in your corner, his never ending devotion and love for Chevelle was so awe inspiring. All the events and occurrences that occur throughout will you have you wondering when you can go experience the Scottish people for yourself. I also loved the growth and understanding that Chevelle goes through till the very end. I’m am definitely looking forward to seeing what happens in Brody’s book. You will definitely love all the scenes Mia makes an appearance she was to cute especially with her love of Fruit Loops. I loved the bonus extended epilogue and the sample of Brody’s story. Don’t miss out on getting to know this entertaining family. Highly recommend this book!!!

An amazing story with a lot of suspenseful twist, also a definite must read.
I gave this book a five star rating because this book was very well written and there wasn't any mistakes throughout it. Chevelle had a horrible heinous crime happened to her family when she was little, living her with emotional wounds that she uses as a shield so that she won't get hurt or feel the pain like she felt before. Leith will do anything for his clan especially his wife and daughter Mia, even die for them. Situations from Chevelle's past and an adversary from Leith's present are trying to tear the couple apart, but with the love of their clan and for each other Leith and Chevelle can overcome everything and beat all of the odds that are stacked against them. I'm so glad that the truth from Chevelle's childhood was finally revealed. Great book I love how close and loyal the MacKenzie family is towards their clan and those that are under their protection. I will be re-reading this story multiple times over again because I just can't get enough.
I titled it The MacKenzies, because I cannot get enough of the MacKenzie clan, they are tight, loyal to each other, died for whom they love. Badasses!! Hot as Feck! 😉 Anyway, Leith and Chevelle are each other half, had been since the tender age of twelve and thirteen... they are each other’s first and only. He would die for her and she would die for him in a heartbeat. Chevelle has been through hell, lost both of her parents at 9 and because of that her life was turned into a nightmare. The beautiful, tough , smartass 13 year old boy , Leith, somewhat strengthened and put her back together the best he could... But,there is so much more to the story,... unanswered questions, etc...The book is full of twists and turns, love, murder, greed and so much more. Get your copy and let them walk you through it! Enthralling!! And boy, little Mia is a trip, not to mention Camdyn! 😝
The book started off Very well. I liked The adding in of Scottish culture And dialect. It gave another complex layer to the main characters. The chemistry between the 2 characters was on fire in may for an interesting read throughout the book. However the internal conflict of the main character was somewhat Redundant. She was a little whiny about her Parents past and never made peace with it.
I am never a fan of reading about a character in a book killing others however I liked Reading the thoughts of the characters as story unfolded. What I didn't like was the last third of the book dragged on as if the pages were just filler when the story probably could have wrapped maybe 50 pages sooner. I skipped several pages to get to the resolution and for this is why this book received only 3 stars. I will read Body's story and am hoping for a little more fast paced events.
But most of all I love their love of each other. Laith would do anything for his hens. Chevelle, his number one hen and Mia his number two hen who stole his heart the minute she was born. She is so cute and tickled me with her love of Fruit Loops. She has her da wrapped around her tiny fingers.
Their marriage is reacted when Laith has to protect himself and family using methods by which his clan McKenzie is accustomed. He tried his best to live a clean life for the sake of Chevelle and Mia but these circumstances proved he had to bring the clan on in to help him. It was that same clan that she married into and became apart of for years. That same clan that revealed the truth of her past revealing she'd been lied to about her parent's death. She had to realize that sometimes,v the methods used by the clan was sometimes necessary.
I loved the McKenzie family's closeness and their love of one another. They would die for each other.
Damn. Damn. All i can say is damn. Someone please call 911 because i need to report blazingly hot book that set my kindle on fire. This author never disappoints. Who wouldn't want a alpha that would die for them? Welcome to a heart pounding, page turning, suspenseful, exciting, erotic read that is a journey anyone would be willing to take. This is a story of Keith and Chevelle who are childhood sweethearts that is filled with mystery, intrigue, and gut wrenching emotion. The passion is hot enough to start a fire in the room that you're sitting in. If i could give 10 stars, I would. It's told in different points of view, no cheating, no cliffhangers, and contains a HEA. I highly recommend you read this book. RIGHT NOW!!!
Leith is a man after my heart. If you don't fall for the accent, you have to fall head over heels for his undying love for his wife, Chevelle.
Chevelle presents a lot of the obstacles within the storyline, although I understand her pain and questionable thoughts, I wish she received healing prior to the events that took place within the storyline. I found myself wanting to fuss at her for some of the conclusions she recklessly jumped to, and state that communication could've have avoided a lot of what occurred.
The two paired together holds a different flame to the idea of relationship goals. I was not only glue to the book for Leith's devilish accent but the passion that the two showed one another both while arguing and professing their love.
I love love love this book. I'm a sucker for accents and with the audible reading it just made the experience so much better. I love Chevelle but I didn't like that she wanted Leith to turn his back on clan business when clan family means everything to them. But because he and his family loved her he and they obliged. They have loved each other most of their life and because of the lies her adoptive mother told her surrounding her parents death she had a lot of clarifications to deal with. I'm glad that her and Leith finally got back on track cause it wasn't like he was gonna let her leave anyway. I can't wait till Brody and Justice's story even tho right now Cam is my favorite.💖💖
Leith and Chevelle have a special love, one that started when they were barely teens. His Scottish brouge drew her in and he claimed her his hen. Chevelle had a good life until her parents death and she had to go live with the Lady. Leith was always her safe place. Now that they're grown, married, and have a child of their own things couldn't be better. Things begin to go sideways when Leith is hacked, blackmailed, and begins leaning on his "MacKenzie Family" ways to resolve it. Chevelle knows he's hiding something and her husband has never lied to her, so why is he lying now? Truths are revealed, destiny is embraced, and reality comes crumbling down on their perfect existence. Can their love survive?
Chevelle and Leith McKenzie have been together since they were teenagers, trying hard to distance themselves from their families. Except that doesn’t always work, because the past can never JUST stay in the past.
Amarie Avant hasn’t missed with me since The Good Mistress part 2. Avant does dysfunctional relationships very well, and writes childhood sweethearts just like I like them: clingy.
I like that Avant gives you a full novel. It’s always as fleshed-out as it can possibly be. You might have a question or two at the end, but, if there are any loose ends Avant ties it up with an alternate epilogue.
This story is about grief, trauma, and how that impacts what was supposed to be a perfect love. I recommend it to anyone who likes a good Dark Romance with a great secondary plot.
All the people in this book are cray-cray!!!!! Betrayal; revenge; power struggles; crazy code of honor; brutal disrespect; kidnappings; outright murder; and family dinners that masquerade as alibi's. This story had me laughing and shaking my head from the first page to the last! Poor Chevelle has been betrayed by every person she has ever met. Or has she? She has been fed one lie after another until she doubts everyone. Even the honest people who love and protect her behind her back. Leith is the husband from hell, but he loves his wife and daughter. Chevelle's daily decision is whether or not to kiss Leith or punch his lights out! And the SEX??? It's a good thing these two are married. Some of that coupling is so down and dirty, depending on which city they find themselves in, they could be arrested!!!!!
I had hopes. I think the problem is ,for me, that too often its the same story over & over. Lack of communication between the main characters. Another woman/man thrown in the mix to stir up unnecessary trouble. With this book, I thought the setting may help revive the same old tropes but no.
I gave it a 2stars because initially, despite the lukewarm lovemaking scenes, I thought maybe being an interracial couple, and the crime family angle might make it more exciting. Because I could skip past the sex scenes, but only if the storyline itself was captivating, and could hold my attention.
NOPE. in the end, I skipped past it all and read the last chapter.
Die For You was my first time reading a Scottish Crime Family novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and Amarie’s writing style and loved how there was a helpful glossary in the beginning of the book.
When the story starts Chevelle and Leith are already married, which is a little different than I am used to in my reads, but different is good. We get to learn about their past and how they ended up together. And how Leith literally will do anything for his hen.
Can love trump family loyalty when you’re married to a Savage Scott? Pick this book up if you love sexy, alpha Scots and the women who love them.
ARC provided and I decided to leave an honest review.
