Unfortunately, the others don't want that. As mysteries unfold and Johnny investigates, he must help Elle to understand the truth about her past. . . . . .And try to save her future.

I know this author personally so it's harder for me to write a review because I don't want to hurt any feelings. With that said, it the roles were reversed, I'd want her to give me an honest review.
I read a lot of 3 star books and enjoy them. I even recommend 3 star books to my friends a lot. My average rating that I give is three stars. I tend to save the higher ratings for more epic fantasy books (Harry Potter to me is a 5 star book. The adventure I went on in those books was worth 5 stars). All that is to say, that just because I gave this book 3 stars doesn't mean I didn't like it or throughly enjoy reading it. I did. I even messaged her once I was done to say she better have a sequel due to how this one ends.
This book was fun. It was an easy read for me. I could pick it up after work and it was relaxing. The characters were cute and I thought she did a good job developing them. Johnny was quirky and made me laugh. He struck me as a person who can be very meticulous when focused and often lose track of everything around him. He was calm in the face of danger. Didn't let his true emotions show when faced with tough situations. Elle was the little "fireball" that came in and challenged Johnny's calm. Elle is a rational person, don't get me wrong. But she behaved a lot more rash than Johnny did. She definitely let her emotions show in situations. But they complimented each other.
What I thought could use a little more improvement was the plot. I liked the plot, but some of it felt rushed in the last chapter. I think Megan handled it well to give you the time details while also being just a hint of vague so that an overt science person wouldn't pick it apart to death (I was an art major so danger of that from me). The relationship between the two left me wanting more. I felt a spark between the main characters, but I felt like some of it got glossed over. It was an abrupt change to me that Johnny went from just trying to keep Elle safe to ultra protective "I will kill them if they touched her" mode. I wanted it to happen, I was waiting for it to happen. I was happy that he did go into that mode. But I felt like it was an abrupt transition. And it wasn't something he expressed to her or anything, just the moment it switches in his head we see and he doesn't question it or even stop to think "Why do I care so much? When did that happen?" I'm hoping to see more of their relationship develop in the next book.
I did not notice any grammatical issues and the whole thing flowed very nicely. There were no moments where I felt I had to reread something in order for it to make sense. I can be a big stickler when it comes to grammatical issues so this is a big plus for me.
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. I think Megan is a great storyteller and I love getting to know the characters she comes up with. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of this book. It was a fun read for me. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
