SERIAL is the first issue of Terry Moore's new series featuring Zoe, the irrepressible star of Rachel Rising and Five Years. Don't miss the premier issue of a her solo series from the award winning creator of Strangers In Paradise and Motor Girl!
Following the examples of independent comic creators such as Dave Sim and Jeff Smith, he decided to publish Strangers in Paradise himself through his own Houston-based "Abstract Studios" imprint, and has frequently mentioned a desire to do a syndicated cartoon strip in the authors notes at the back of the Strangers in Paradise collection books. He has also mentioned his greatest career influence is Peanuts' Charles Schulz.[1] Some of Moore's strip work can additionally be found in his Paradise, Too! publications.
His work has won him recognition in the comics industry, including receiving the Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story in 1996 for Strangers in Paradise #1-8, which was collected in the trade paperback "I Dream of You".
It was announced on June 15th, 2007 that Moore would be taking over for Sean McKeever as writer of Marvel Comics's Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane series starting with a new issue #1. On July 27th, Marvel announced that Moore would also take over for Joss Whedon as writer of Marvel's Runaways.[2]
On November 19th, 2007 Terry Moore announced in his blog that his new self-published series would be named Echo and its first issue would appear on March 5th, 2008.[3]
How do you review twenty pages of a brand new Terry Moore book?
I could summarise what happens, but that would be pointless.
I could talk about Moore's incredible artistic talent, but if you've read his work you already know all about that, and if you haven't, you should.
I could talk about how he gives us just enough here to make us intrigued, to make us want to come back for more, how he gives us hints and glimpses of what's going on, but is at a point in his career where he can tell a story the way he wants to tell it, and so has the luxury not to tell us too much in the first twenty pages...but, really, what use is that to you?
This is Terry Moore, he's one of the best, and in a world full of super heroes and space ships, both of which I dearly love, he's always just happily done his own thing and done it beautifully.
The black and white of it was dope, and added to the sinister nature of the comic. The story was a little bare for me, other than men fucking up and young girls getting their revenge in happy little accidents and violence, of course.
I liked the dream sequence - it's got me primed for the next edition. What was going on in there? Those nightmares that felt like a cross between Suicide Squad, Kick Ass, and IT. I'm intrigued by the dream more than what happened outside of the dream.
Looking forward to the next one to see how it develops.
This was a very nice start to the series. I'm really interested in seeing what's gonna happen next. From this issue I'm getting some "Gone Girl" vibes for the protagonist. The artwork is great, but there were some very small inconsistencies in the way a certain character was drawn and it's not like that affects the story in any way, but I found it a bit annoying. Something else that wasn't really a bad thing, but also not a good thing is that this issue had very little text, which means that read this in less than 10 minutes. Anyway, maybe the next issues will be more dialogue heavy. I'd recommend this issue, it's certainly very enjoyable. 7.5/10
È sempre originale e imprevedibile, fa venir voglia di leggerne ancora e ancora 😍 "Serial" è collegato a "Rachel Rising", sarebbe meglio leggerlo dopo
