★★★★☆

Dobby and Mippy will forever hold my heart ♥️ Also, if this story was solely just then during their Hogwarts year it would have absolutely been a 5 star read

“Stop it. I can't breathe when you stand so close to me.”
“And I can't when you're far from me.”

Birth Right is a compelling and emotionally charged Lucissa short fanfiction that dives into themes of identity, family legacy, and redemption. Known for her thoughtful character development and engaging storytelling, LovesBitca8 crafts a narrative that blends elements of drama, romance, and introspection. I just wish it was was longer, way longer. Birth Right was a big surprise for me. I never imagined until a month ago that I'd be reading a Lucissa fanfic, but here I am clamoring for more.

Narcissa Black was portrayed so well, a cultured, classy woman who knows her worth and who has an admirable strength of thought and presence, in addition to her surreal beauty. It's no wonder that she attracted Lucius Malfoy from the first moment they met. They clash so beautifully that I loved reading their relationship develop, from their first meeting at Hogwarts to the clash between them when Lucius is in Azkaban (the moment in which The Right Thing To Do takes place). The two complement each other and know each other so, so well, it's very satisfying to see them interact. I felt this from the beginning of the series, when I was looking for crumbs of Lucissa wherever I could in the other fics.

Aside from the main characters, I believe that Bellatrix was also very well portrayed, her ambitions, relationships and the disdain she felt for those who thought differently from her. Her past with Lucius and her constant duality in relation to Narcissa were very interesting and well written. She defends and protects her sister, but also condemns her for several reasons. It's nice to see this side of her, which we also see a little in The Auction (I'm still reading it, but I've seen some scenes of it being portrayed). In addition, the rest of the Black and Malfoy families were also interesting to get to know. Another highlight for me was how Lucius and Narcissa dealt with their pregnancy issues, how they were there for each other but at the same time suffered so much being together while dealing with this heartbreaking problem. I can understand much better why they're so worried about Draco and why they put so many expectations and want to keep him safe no matter what. I'd have loved to have seen more of their family's interactions.

Lucius traced his son's fingertips. Find the things that make you happy, Lucius thought, and I will get them for you. Until the day I die.

Finally, I loved LovesBitca8's writing and was very happy to read and enjoy this short story. I didn't give it 5 stars because it could have been more developed and with more scenes. The way it was done ended up feeling rushed. I know that was the writer's intention, but I'm expressing my sadness and hope for more here. I'd love to see more of Lucius and Narcissa at Hogwarts and also of their future after Lucius leaves Askaban. I'd like to see them in a second chance romance, with Lucius groveling a lot. So, I think I need to go look for more fanfics about the two of them. I found a new favorite pairing.

Loved reading a bit more about Lucius and Narcissa, but unfortunately, this wasn’t as great as I hoped.

Some parts of this little read were great. I really love Lucius and Narcissa, I think they are just great, so it was lovely to read more about them. However, this fic was so confusing with the time jumps. I sometimes did not know whether we were in the past or present. Also, I feel like this could have been more, but that's okay. It was just fun to read, but I had hope for more.

This was a perfect wrap up to the Rights and Wrongs series 🥹 I loved getting some backstory on Lucius and Narcissa’s love story and all the parallels it had with Draco and Hermione ❤️😭

It's a nice addition to the main story. Flushes out Lucius and Narcissa a bit more, which is nice.

I was a little uncomfortable in the beginning due to their young age (same problem I had with Draco's POV), but once they got older, I got more into it.

Can't say it's a must. But if you have a little time and wanna learn more about Malfoys and Blacks, it's worth it.

If I could give this 6 stars I would. I needed this book. I really did. I actually cried reading the last 10 pages. I love Lucius and Narcissa. Lucius is a simp. He’s down bad for his wife. I’m obsessed. He loves her so much and then Draco is born???? And the love he has for his son?????? I’m unwell.

3 STARS

Not quite what I was expecting, from the blurb and tags I thought I was getting a story that explored Lucius and Narcissa's struggles with infertility but I guess I must've misunderstood something along the way.

It was okay I guess? A bit confusing cuz the narrative isn't linear and skips all over the place. I wish we could've seen more of Lucius and Narcissa's love story but I understand this is an unfinished project, which is likely to never be completed.

Though I will say it definitely works great as a complement to the author's other works in the series, it fleshes out the story that was kind of hinted at in them.

Nonetheless, I'm definitely intrigued in reading more about these two, I like them a lot as a couple.

I wasn’t finish with the Right and Wrongs series; so I was excited to find this on AO3. You only get snippets of Lucius and Narcissa in The Auction and The Right Thing To Do & All The Wrong Things, so I was thrilled there is a novella just about them. We get present day (TRTTD/ATWT universe) and flashbacks to their formative years. Lucius and Narcissa’s love for Draco runs deep!

ETL Echo/ Beatificbean narrated the podfic. As like before, very well done. Though I wish Beatificbean’s male voices were more masculine. Would still listen again.

That was cripplingly romantic.

Once again leading on from TRTTD and The Auction this this “It’s a real testament to the author to be able to have two books with opposite out comes / plot lines on the same timeline, and have such strong narrative mirroring. I was ‘highlighting’ my little heart out at the simplest of connections.” So many little subtleties and added reasoning behind characters decisions whilst cementing motives.

Why do I root for Lucissa more than Dramione in this Rights and Wrongs universe? I only got interested in them after The Auction, but the way their backstory interweaves with the plot of The Right Thing to Do was so compelling to read here.

Quotes that made me squeal or grin so hard I looked like a maniac at the airport:
"There's only one thing worse than having your child ripped from you. If your son chose to run, to disappear and cut you from his life — all because he didn't trust you to understand."

"You are marrying into my family. There is no reason for us to correspond or meet in private—"

"No reason, no." He laughed lightly. "Reason has nothing to do with it."

"Stop it. I can't breathe when you stand so close to me."

"And I can't when you're far from me."

"I read every letter." She struggled to keep her voice even. "I memorized them before I burned them. I couldn't bear having a piece of you if I couldn't have all of you."

Holly crap! Okey hear me out. I HATE Lucius in the trttd/atrt universe. YET i fell for him... Not in the present chapters tho. I wanted to beat the shit out of him when he was in prison and also sometimes in the past chapters.

Cissy as always was killing it throughout the whole novella like girl slayyyy.

The tension was tensioning! This is the best explaination i can come up with i cant explain it otherwise.

The only thing that i was like ehhh was the time jumps. It should have had a date or something so the reader knew when what he is reading is happening bc sometimes i was confused af and according to the comments i was not alone.

Anyway, i really liked it even tho i wanted to punch elsa but yeah☺️

Before falling down the Dramione rabbit hole, I never would have looked at Narcissa - who was already tragic in her own right in the canon - and Lucius as a tragic, romantic couple, but this author has completely convinced me. This peek into their courtship, their lives, their utter love for each other, and Lucius's absolute devotion to both Narcissa was so heart-wrenching, knowing what was coming for them, in the canon or in this AU. And their having to watch a similar story play out between their beloved only son and Hermione must have been just as heart-wrenching for them as parents, even as they machinated to bring the young couple together, to give them a happier ending.

Really 3.5

I meant to put this on my other reviews, but damn these fan fics for making me love the Malfoys! I had to go back and read this real quick because the author said this is her reading order, so I’m going to abide by it. That being said, I never hated Narcissa, but these have made me love her. Not just that, but as a mother of an only child, and a son, I feel so much of the mom characters in these stories that I of course didn’t when I read the HP books when they were originally released, and I was desperately trying to get my hands on the next one at the midnight release.

I love seeing the author’s interpretation of how these characters developed, their relationships, and more.
